Red face Your guilty pleasure movies

It's hard to justify but i love watching Battleship and World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles from time to time. I just love turning up dem speakers and watching shit go boom on the big flat while grinning like a dog.

What are your guilty pleasure type of movies?

My dad was a big Kevin Costner fan for reasons I can't really explain. He and I have always had kind of a rocky relationship, but for whatever reason Costner still reminds me of some of the better times with him as a kid.

Thus any Costner movies have forever been my biggest guilty pleasures.

The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Moreen Ohara. Just something about the story makes me feel guilty watching it. Guess I am just an old softy.

The Matrix Reloaded. I know it's a bad movie overall, I kinda like the fight scenes. I thought the dialogue before the Burly Brawl was great even though it is nonsense, Hugo Weaving just does a good job delivering it.

A war is coming, I've seen it in my dreams. Fires sweeping over the Earth, bodies in the streets, cities turned to dust... retaliation.

Hollywood is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until everything you love is dead.

Glad to see someone else loves this movie. When you think "John Wayne movie" it's the furthest sort from most people's mind but it's a keeper.

I'll say Rush. Not the racing movie from a few years back but the narco romance tragedy from back in the 90's with Jason Patrick and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Yeah but I love Tin Cup and can actually sit through 3000 Miles to Graceland. That's a whole other level than someone saying they like Field of Dreams and Dances with Wolves.

    Lost in Translation

I mean, there isn't a whole lot of plot there. You get to see scarlett's bum cheeks through some sheer panties. Plus Bill Murray.

I've watched it a million times and everytime I get sucked in.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a movie since I saw that. I was probably like 10 or 11 when it came out and I was practically on the floor the entire movie.

Deep Throat. I love the corny porn from the 70's. It's like the entire movie was a setup for the joke at the end.

Just about all the ZAZ movies (Hot Shot, Naked Gun, Airplane, etc ) but.... dubbed in french. I first saw them as a child/teenager in their dubbed version, so the nostalgia effect only works when linked to the timing, wording and slightly stilted delivery of the french dub that is ingrained in my memory.

Star Wars, The Avengers, and Lord of the Rings.

Actually, the first one to pop in my mind was already said...Mean Girls. Others would be Top Gun, 10 Things I Hate About You, How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days, and Hitch.

Edit, Hollywood Homicide, no clue why I love that movie so much

Reminds me of one of the worst first dates I've ever been on. Started talking about music and I asked her to tell me one of her guilty pleasures. Bitch actually said Elton John.

Only worse experience I've had is sitting down to watch Princess Bride with some broad I'd gone out with a few times and she immediately started calling it boring and stupid. That was the end of that.

Sorcerers Apprentice by far. Scene where he plays music on the Tesla coils gets me every time.

Seriously though, Hot Shots is not a guilty pleasure movie. Gummy Bears Gummy Bears Sprinkles Sprinkles is a go-to topping for any icecream parlor, ever. It's just a pleasure movie all over.

I actually haven't watched it in a long time, but Freaked. It's got quite the cast too, which I can't explain.

    FreakedCaps_006.jpg

Alex Winter (Bill from Bill and Ted)
    Bill Sadler
    Brooke Shields
    Morgan Fairchild
Randy Quaid as the Mad Scientist
    Bobcat Goldthwait as Sockhead
Mr. T as the Bearded Lady
    Keanu Reaves as Dog Boy

I'm not sure if it would actually count, because I feel like it's actually a good movie, but PCU (both have Megan Ward in them, oddly) also.

You guys are listing some decent movies. My guilty pleasure is a straight up shit movie. Horrid camera work, bad script, bad acting, bad costumes, bad source material from a crazy cult leader. It's all really bad: Battlefield Earth.

The cherry blossom scene was pretty much at the end, what scene are you referring to, Cruise visiting the emperor? IMHO the movie was underrated, but I have a soft spot for pretty much all things Japanese..

    Keanu Reaves as Dog Boy

I'm not sure if it would actually count, because I feel like it's actually a good movie, but PCU (both have Megan Ward in them, oddly) also.
LOL I forgot about this movie. I watched this so many times as a young pup. Have a macaroon.

I guess I wasn't sure which scene you were referring to since the cherry blossoms are shown a few times. I'm talking about how Cruise helps the samurai at the end kill himself with honor after losing the battle.

I agree, and ditto for the Naked Gun movies but to be fair it's only 59% on Rotten Tomatoes and it's not the kind of movie you list off on a first date if somebody asks you about your favorite movies. Then again if you do list it off and the girl says she loves it, you should probably marry her.

Yeah, that's the exact scene. Cruise helps Katsumoto commit seppuku near a cherry blossom tree, and as he dies he gazes at it and says something along the lines of "so beautiful". That scene definitely choked me up.

Its been years since I've watched the movie but didn't Katsumoto just see the cherry blossom tree in his mind's eye? I thought he just died in a field but surrounded by knelt soldiers on the Japanese Army side in honor.

I guess it possibly could be, but in the scene itself it looks like it's part of the landscape. In any case, touching scene.

I was hooked on The Legend of Billie Jean back in the day.

Probably 'cause of the song that went with it more than the movie.

Adding another set of Nicolas Cage movies to the list. For some reason I find myself enjoying Knowing and Lord of War

    Also Keanu's Constantine.

3:13 look on the right side of the screen. You can see the cherry blossom trees. Also, it looks like the dying dude is facing them. So it's part of the landscape.

Steven Seagal movies. Like, any of them. I can legitimately enjoy Van Damme's crappier films, but Seagal (outside of the Under Siege movies) just makes hilariously bad movies that make me happy are being made. Glimmerman is legendary, and any movie where he's partnered with some random rapper is going to turn out well.

Haha, the first time I watched Show Girls I was about four rum and cokes in and was settling down for the night. Thought it was a masterpiece.

And now I need to watch Surf Ninjas. I forgot that movie even existed.

The old TMNT movies. I just watched them the other day and lol'd at the stupidest parts. "Michaelangelo! 87. *Clap* 88. *Clap* Splinter narrows eyes. "Uhhh, one? Yeaaa..."

    "It's quiet."

    "Yea, a little too quiet."

    "Well, that was easy."

    "Yea, a little too easy."

    "Look, there's Raph."

    "Yea, a little too Raph."

    "Knock it off!"

    Actually, just watch this.

Edit: Oh, and since we're talking about movies we cried at, when I was a kid and watched The Best of the Best and the dude apologizes for killing his brother and omggg.

Its a contemporary teen-comedy/romance using a cheerful and cleaned up PoP as a dream sequence for the bulk of its content. Its panned by the critics (9%) but the audience gave it a 76% enjoyability rating. "The Official Razzie Movie Guide (rates it) as one of the The 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made." Apparently I'm part of the 76%, god help me.

I reckon Sucker-Punch is a masterpiece. There I said it, feels good to admit it. ( an additional, I first watched it on blu-ray with the full longer ending. With John Hamm playing the high roller, really makes the film so much better - so you gotta watch it like that )

Also I find that if I can turn off the film critic part of my brain . . . I can really enjoy Mystery Men.

Sucker Punch is literally one of the worst movies ever made. Even as a guilty pleasure movie, it's bad. The only redeeming quality this movie has is that the girls in it are hot (but there's no nudity so it's a moot point).

How about movies that only worked because you were too young to see the flaws that time and age have exposed as terrible, but you still enjoy them anyway? Is that a guilty pleasure or just plain obstinate nostalgia?

    Examples:
    Rocky 4
    Karate Kid 2
    Anything to do with Ewoks
Indy 2. Short Round? Don't mind him one bit. But that bitch needs to shut up. And Indy can't resist her? HIS STUDENTS ARE ALL HOT CHICKS THAT ONLY TAKE HIS CLASS BECAUSE THEY WANT HIS COCK.
Dune. The movie doesn't even tell you what his goddamn power is! Sting, fucking really?
