    MLB 2016 Season

Pitchers and catchers started reporting for some teams today!

    My predictions for the year:

    Royals will repeat
Chapman will throw it real hard
Bryce Harper will cry a lot
    Sandoval will still be fat
The Cubs will be tricked into thinking they have a shot at winning it all. They won't.
LA fans will get beat up at a Cardinals game.

    Crown the Cards
    Rangers win the AL West
People will continue to complain about "pace of the game"

Joey Votto will be the only thing keeping the Reds from being the worst team in baseball.

The Cubs starting rotation isn't going to work out like their fans hope.

Even year, just give the Giants the trophy now, it's ending up in SF eventually anyways.

I still find it a bit nuts that Dexter Fowler, Ian Desmond, and Yovani Gallardo are still FAs.

Orioles are supposedly confident they will sign Fowler and Gallardo, but since they both rejected qualifying offers, Orioles would be out two draft picks.

    Predictions:
Twins offense continues to grow. Trending toward something really scary in a couple years here.
Twins pitching continues to blow. Trending toward continued shit for the rest of the team's existence.

This will make two seasons in a row that the thread creator will predict the World Series champ correctly.

Got the MLB.com email about class action settlement. $20 bucks off the annual cost this year. I'm hoping they have beefed up their infrastructure so it's not a buffering mess at times. At least there will be 60fps streams this year.

I've never had a problem with their streams. They have actually always been great.

$20 off is a pretty big middle finger though for a class action. I'll just wait until they offer it for half off again before getting it and just watch what I can elsewhere

Don't worry, your consolation prize will be either Jay Bruce or Austin Jackson.

“A bunch of fucking nerds running the game. You can’t slide into second base. You can’t take out the fucking catcher because [Buster] Posey was in the wrong position and they are going to change all the rules. You can’t pitch inside anymore. I’d like to knock some of these fuckers on their ass and see how they would do against pitchers in the old days.”

I agree with this part though.

I posted this in the Cellphone thread also.

T-Mobile customers can get a free MLB.tv subscription this year

Of course, there are conditions to this…but in all honesty, they don’t seem all that restrictive. To take advantage of the offer, you must be on one of T-Mobile’s “simple choice” plans, which require a credit check. Prepaid plans aren’t eligible for the offer. Also, the offer can only be redeemed from April 3-10. You can’t sign up before the season starts, and you can’t sign up and take advantage of the offer after the first week of the season.
It’ll also be difficult for users to get a refund if they already signed up for MLB.tv through MLB – you’ll need to contact MLB.tv’s notoriously difficult customer service department and jump through those hoops.

But hey, it’s a free MLB.tv subscription. If you’re already a T-Mobile customer, it doesn’t make sense not to take advantage of this. Now, I wouldn’t switch my provider just to get a free MLB.tv subscription, but if it’s being offered up on a silver platter…why not?

This is from a 3 year old article:

What came before that eye-popping quote was an explanation of how the LaRoches handle educating their child given their unusual lifestyle. They've been doing this, mind you, for three years now.

Long ago, LaRoche prioritized bringing Drake with him over traditional schooling. He goes to class in winter. In Viera, he brings schoolwork with him and sees a private tutor at a Sylvan Learning Center. They live in a small Kansas town, and LaRoche arranged Drake’s education with the public school. LaRoche said Drake’s school is fine so long as Drake passes standardized tests.

Yeah, players consider the clubhouse to be sacred ground and that only them and the coaches should have any say as to what goes on there.

I mean, apparently they all liked the kid and liked having him around, but them threatening to boycott the game is more about a turf war with upper management.

The people who "found" the 7 Ty Cobb baseball cards are either dumb or getting bad advice, or both.

They're now all on ebay, at the same time. I wouldn't have told anybody I found 7 of them. Start with one. Then I wouldn't have put them on ebay, I would have done an auction house and not listed them all at once.

    Odd.

No kidding, surely they have reached out to high level collectors or PSA for some advice or have been reached out too. They are probably retarded though, which seems to be the case. What a great find, as a collector myself I wish I could say Id hold on to all seven cards, but that is some really nice money.

I am late on the alternative plot lines to the LaRoche story, wow. This could be a rejoicing moment for the league, SHIP OUT SALE! SHIP OUT SALE! Suitors from here to the moon.

Boston Red Sox going with Travis Shaw over Pablo Sandoval at third base

Pretty much the only reason he left SF was because they wouldn't do a contract without a weight-clause in it, and he felt insulted and disrespected by that.

So for years I've been ranting about how stupid MLB.tv was for not putting commercials on during the breaks. At the very least for the MLB team shop or something. Seemed like a huge wasted opportunity to me

Well now they have commercials on and I'm like "fuck, commercials are so annoying."

So if in a game, team-A hit 2 HR's and team-B only got one hit all game, which was a bloop single, which team do you think would win that game?

Lol. Correa knew exactly what he was doing. Smart play on his part, but its on the ref by rule to call that out. You technically must hold the line towards the end of the run, being two feet inside is a no brainer. Not to mention lead ump told Girardi that if Betances "hit" Correa, they would have called Carlos out.

    really.jpg

Still, an awful fucking attempt by Betances.

    Running Lane

The batter is out if, in running to first base, the batter-runner is hit by a throw while running outside of the 3 foot running lane, or interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base. He could be called out even if he is not hit by the throw, if the umpire judges that by being outside the lane he interfered with the fielder’s attempt to field the throw. There must be a throw before interference can be called and the throw must be a quality throw. Rule 6.05(k).
A runner is not free from interference while in the lane, nor automatically guilty when out of the lane. If he is out of the lane he is in serious jeopardy of being called for interference, but it is not automatic, unless he is hit by the throw, or commits an intentional act of interference. The rule states that he is out when out of the lane AND causes interference with the fielder taking the throw. If he is out of the lane and is hit by the throw, that is always interference. If he is in the lane he could still cause interference, but it would have to be something obviously intentional (like grabbing the fielder's arm or glove, or deliberately touching a thrown ball). If the catcher does not make a throw because the runner is outside the lane, this is not interference. Interference with a thrown ball must be intentional. Such as, deliberately making contact with it. Or in this case if the runner is hit by the throw while outside the lane. The lines marking the lane are part of that "lane," but the runner must have both feet within the lane or on the lines marking the lane, to be judged as "in" the lane. Rule 7.09(k) casebook, N.A.P.B.L 4.14.
If the runner is hit by the throw or a collision occurs on his last step before touching the base; generally interference is not called. The runner has to step into fair territory to touch the base that is in fair territory.
He was just running straight to the bag. If he veered into Betances, then I would agree with you that he he had intent.... But he didn't veer and ran as straight as he could down the line out of the right handed batters box. Stop looking for an excuse for a the loss today. It was a quirk play.

Excuse? Sure. Calling an excuse doesn't change the fact that it majorly impacted the game. It was clearly a missed call, by "rule". Also if you think Correa didn't knowingly hug the inside to help make that play more difficult, you're cutting the kid short. Also the "running in a straight line" shit is false.

He practically runs towards Betances at one point. Shit even Houston's radio guys immediately thought it was a questionable play. Carlos Correa leads Astros to win over Yankees | MLB.com

He played within the confines of the rules that I quoted.

Let me bold and underline some keywords here for you to wrap your mind around.

Betances made a poor throw. Get over it and prepare yourself to be 0-2 yankee scum.

Congrats I can underline part of 6.05k stating the last half of the run he never made an attempt to get back to the line. Or the simple fact that he veered to the ball on purpose. Id throw him in prison. What an awful human being Correa is, send him back to the territory, or trade him to the Yanks. James Harden sucks also. </3 Houston.

Btw the 105 yr old woman who went viral for saying her key to success was "drinking three Dr. Pepper's a day" threw out the first pitch for the Rangers. Actually really impressed with how alert she is. It's amazing. Dr. Pepper, that Texas magic.

Not gonna happen my friend. Correa will be probably be a $0.5b player when it comes time to pay fair market value for it.

Yeah, you can't just highlight parts of the rule and completely ignore the many other parts that are directly counter to your argument.

It is pretty obvious that, by the rules, he should have been called out

Reds are 2-0. Cards are 0-3.

This is the likely highlight of my season.

Between the tears that Story, Cano, Correahave been on, some good pitching performances & shit like Kenta Maeda dropping bombs, its been a fairly entertaining start to the season.

Dude is an analytical dream. Really happy the Rangers FO wasn't successful in shipping him out when he was playing poorly last year.

Lol Dodgers. Pull their starting pitcher, who was at 100 pitches and had a no hitter when he got pulled, reliever gives up game tieing home run and eventually Giants win in extra innings.

It was fucking beautiful. How the fuck you pull a pitcher with a fucking no-no going, I'll never know. The poor kid may never get another chance at one again. Complete imbecile the Dodgers have for a manager.

Yesterday was a terrible day for the rangers.

Chirinos breaks his arm, Choo strains his calf. Luckily we have a deep roster but those 2 cannot catch a break.

^ Mazara is a stud, the Chirinos injury will suck but it also may make Daniels go get Lucroy or Norris.

Still a good start to the year, it's been fun to watch guys like Story just do absolutely stupid shit.

Holy fucking shit, the sample size is tiny but so far the Astros got TRADE-RAPED savage by Philly.

    Phils got:
Velasquez - looks like the second coming of Kerry Wood; looked good at the MLB level end of last season with the Astros, so not really a fluke
Appel - actually pitched well debuting with his new minor league squad, if he turns it around could be a no. 2-3 starter
Oberholtzer - solid back of the rotation or bullpen long man
Thomas Eschelman - way too early, but was this years 2nd rounder and a solid college pitcher
Harold Arauz - who the fuck is that?!

    Astros got:
Ken "Longball" Giles - pretty much gives up the game-losing HR each outing; couldn't take the closing job from fucking Gregerson, who makes me shit bricks every time he comes out of the pen.
Johnathan Arauz - middling infield prospect

    So. Fucking. Trade-raped.

Yes, it's early and I'm overreacting. But if we lose 2 quality starters for the second coming of Green Light Lidge, I may drunkenly break into the Juice Box and shit on Luhnow's desk after an all-night bender in East Downtown (fuck calling it EaDo, suck a dick trendy hipster shit-stabbers).

    There, I feel better.

Was just looking at this after the Velasquez game. I know Appel isn't quite what the 'Stros wanted, & Velasquez wasn't a dynamite prospect, but they sure did give up a fuck load for Giles. Was surprised when it was announced, made the Chapman trade that much better looking.

Thanks for beating your wife Aroldis!

Is East Downtown really trendy now? Deep Ellum is becoming even more of a hipster-fuck fest in recent times. Thank god for Ft. Worth. TCU bitches & museums!

Velasquez was a high-end prospect for us that looked good in the majors late last year. Oberholtzer was going to be displaced, so he was very tradeable. Appel was puzzling because his velocity and stuff LOOKED fine, but he kept getting lit up in the minors. A change of scenery may right the ship. Eschelman is too early to make any judgement on, but a top 15 prospect for the Phils now. Seriously never heard of H. Arauz, and I follow Astros prospects pretty regularly.

Giles will probably level out and I seriously hope he does. But Appel + Velasquez was too high a price to pay for a bullpen arm, period. Subtract either Velasquez or Appel and the deal is probably passable assuming Giles shakes off his start and turns into a legit closer down the line. It would be a really swift kick in the balls if Eschelman develops into a starter. If the Phils got 3 legit starting MLB arms off the Giles deal, I would kind of wish herpes on Luhnow. You know, an annoying reminder of bad decisions, just like Astros fans will always have an annoying reminder of his bad decision in what will go down as a Bagwell-level trade-raping if Velasquez is a star and 1-2 other major league arms emerge from the prospects.

East Downtown is less trendy, more where you go to get trashed post-Astros or Dynamo. It is a couple of blocks from either. Though a ton of fancy apts and townhomes have also been built there, so trendy may still be in the cards. Moontower Inn may be trendy? If you like sweating your balls off (outdoors seating only) with a bunch of mustache waxers and UH kids while drinking the same craft beer available at 3+ other air-conditioned places around the corner, then HAVE I GOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!

That meme, fucking cracked me up. But no one is entitled to employment, and if ESPN wants to fire him, even if I think there is some truth to what he is saying, it's their right. Plus ESPN has no personality, so, he probably knew he'd get canned.

Giants give up 12+ in one inning in two games, less than a week apart. First time in MLB history, yay! And we're still in first in the West..lulz.

The back end of our rotation is total trash.

Both ends of the Astros rotation are trash right now.

While I expect Keuchel and hope McHugh will improve, right now, our best starter is a toss up between Scott Feldman and Doug Fister.

His 7 PA today with no official AB is the first time it's happened in MLB history.

In other weird news, the Twins pitcher struck out 4 batters in the 7th and gave up a run. It's a perfect show of how the White Sox and Twins are playing this season.

Only in baseball can you get shit like that.

The way the Cubs treated Harper says a lot about how deadly he is at the plate. Other than walks, he has slowed down the last couple of weeks and he still owns a .400 obp.

    This makes me happy

Bautista is a little bitch. Got plunked earlier in the game as retaliation for his bat-flip shenanigans, and then to retaliate he almost tackles the 2nd baseman on a slide into the bag while the 2nd basemen is trying to turn a double-play. Thats a good way to break a guys leg and put him out for the season.
