I am trying to shed some pounds, and I know that beer any decent beer has way too many calories.
A good friend of mine introduced me to tequila, I have tried a few and enjoyed them. Currently I am enjoying El Jimador (silver). My only problem is that some of them are bloody expensive, now I am not averse to paying a little more for quality but I do not wish to sacrifice my left nut for it. Any suggestions, recommendations are welcome, please bear in mind that I am in southern Ontario so I only have access to what the licbo wants to sell.
No idea what the licbro allows, but I second moogalak's suggestion. When I drink, I get a glass of patron silver and sip on it. One thing I learned about tequila is that you can make shitty tequila better by making it cold. So, for example, get a bottle of the good stuff and keep a bottle of cuervo in the freezer. Use the good stuff for the first drink or 2, then switch to the chilled cuervo.
I just can't do straight tequila anymore. Back in my early twenties my friends and I would buy one of those gallon size Jose Quervo bottles and drink it all in 2-3 nights time, shared between 3-5 people. Fuck, feel a bit sick just thinking about it. Goddamn quarters...
This is far-and-away my favorite tequila for the price:
Don Julio 1942 is my drink of choice. Smooth and mellow. It makes a fantastic cadillac margarita. I've had the next step up from 42, and while it is better, its not tripple the price better.

Isn't the gallon stuff just tequila flavored rum? As in, not really tequila. I'm a huge fan of cazadores.
I drink a lot of tequila but my preference is mezcal. They are smokey tequilas, like a whiskey. A cheap one I can find at a lot of places is called vida:

I used to love red wine, but in recent years it just gives me heartburn.
Sup, Monica. Don't forget to register at re rerolled
I stick to El Jimador at the low end, but at around $40 the value sweet spot at the LCBO is Cazadores by a long shot. The stuff is great.
Had a bad experience with tequila back in college and avoid the stuff now. It's too bad too, because I did really enjoy it prior. I can sip or shoot good stuff, but it still isn't very fun and cheap tequila might as well be ipecac for me.
But this is from Wiki and I didn't know this.
The blue agave plant has spiked leaves and a round, fleshy core (the piņa). The leaves are chopped off and the core is cooked and crushed to create juice, which is fermented and distilled to make tequila. The resulting unaged, clear tequila is then diluted with water to bring the alcohol content down to around 40%. Pure tequila is distilled 100% from the sap of the blue agave plant, while mixto tequilas only need to be at least 51% blue agave in order to legally be called tequila. In 1964, tequila makers were allowed to obtain up to 30% of the sugars in tequila from sources other than the agave plant. During a blue agave shortage in the 1970s, Mexican regulations were further revised to require that tequila contain only 51.5% agave. Agave plants take 10 to 12 years to mature and become ripe, while sugarcane can be harvested every year, so blending the agave spirit with sugarcane spirit is a cheaper method, while using 100% blue agave plant is more expensive.
I only heard about it because on reddit someone posted this "new" spirit which is advertised as tequila + vodka. Sounds pretty rough right? But then a bunch of people were basically saying that is just pretty much the same as cheap tequila. Only difference is this brand was straight up telling you about it and was claiming to use "ultra premium triple charcoal filtered quadruple distilled" vodka. But from your link it sounds like it isn't cut with vodka just generic sugar liquor.
Am I just a liquor noob but wtf is the difference in all the liquors that are 40% ABV? I always hear "I make bad decisions with tequila" or "vodka is hardcore shit" but aren't they all the same in terms of get-you-fucked-up? I have never noticed any difference whatsoever, but I'm hardly a big drinker.
I find it extremely, extremely easy to drink 80 proof tequila compared to whiskey or scotch. Tequila can go down like water and it seems to hit you all at once. The worst drunk of my life was off tequila. I was puking for like 8 hours straight. Where with vodka I'd throw up a few times and then just pass out.
Dude...are you seriously a vodka Red Bull drinker? I figured you were kind of a bro, but not that bro.
haha, only if/when I'm getting shit faced and looking to cause problems. Most of the time I just drink beer, sometimes I'll drink jack and water with a squeeze of lime. But otherwise I very rarely drink much spirits, cocktails or highballs. I'm not a bro at all, and am deeply hurt that you would suggest such a thing.
