Louis is the better actor. Bill is the better comedian.
Who is the better comedian? My vote goes to Burr, both are amazing but me and a friend are arguing. This argument started from compairing them to Carlin and who has a bigger impact

Louis is the better actor. Bill is the better comedian.
How do you rate them?
Laughs per minute (LPM)?
YOU HAVE TO GET UP EARLIER IN THE MORNING TO STUMP ME!!!
When you make a poll this version of vbulletin posts the thread before it gives you the options of posting polls. So if you drag ass with the polls you'll inevitably end up with these guys swooping in before you can finish it. Bonus points are that nobody knows what they're talking about:
Really close. Going with Burr only because I find his delivery better; accent and fuck you attitude is great. I agree with Tuco though that Louis CK is a bit more inventive.
This is tough. I love them both, but I find Louis CK to be funnier.
Burr, CK is really good but he's over exposed.
I wouldn't say that CK's show is a comedy show. It's an art show. And it's nothin wrong with that. But it ain't a comedy show. It's an art show that is funny sometimes.
Burr's standup is comedy that is serious sometimes.
I would say that CK is the closest thing to Carlin still left alive.
Burr doesn't get Star Wars.
Also CK is more amusing.

There's something to "get" about Star Wars?
Apparently and he is in capable of getting it he said. He said he didn't see it until he was 27 then he was to old to "get it".
I'm not too familiar with Burr. Someone link his best shit. Louis is just one of those brutally painfully honest people. It's a blessing and a curse I guess.
His latest special is on Netflix and compares pretty well with the older stuff usually found on youtube.
CK's jokes appeal to me as a father with kids who can be assholes.
Not saying CK wouldn't be doing the same shit, i'd say he could work just as great... however, i feel Louie might feel more comfortable going slightly into dicks or some shit to make that work.
Burr and CK have both acted, we're all more familiar with Louie of course, Bill was pretty good in Breaking Bad.
Burrs new animated show comes out later, and we all know Louis is great
burrs most recent special
it's ok... but that's cuz you heard all this material from his podcast and when he's on Rogan.
Burr was an actor and I think writer for chapelle show.
"Im Sorry You feel that way" is an awesome standup, I always love when hes on talk shows

This is a difficult decision for this early in the morning!
Love both comedians and I've seen their standups live multiple times each. I'd say Bill Burr is currently "hotter" but CK was literally everywhere for awhile there.
Going with Burr. But only by the slimmest of margins.
Louis CK's comedy is Melancholy. It's awkward and depressing but in a funny way. Bill Burr is an angry, angry man who vents frustration in very funny ways. I don't see how you can really compare the two.
It would be like comparing Steven Wright to Eddie Murphy.
No, that's racist.
I got to see Bill Burr live in the summer and he was fantastic. I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time. His bit on Bruce Jenner was absolutely priceless (better than the modified version he later did on talk shows). Having said that, I still give the edge to Louis CK. He just strikes me as a better comedic writer overall. Plus, Burr is kind of known for improvising reactions to audience comments and I hate that stuff. Give me scripted and rehearsed shtick over potentially awkward and uncomfortable freestyling any day.
I voted CK, but it's very, very close. CK's bit "the saddest handjob in America" is outrageous. But so is Bill Burr swearing at a bunch of assholes in Philadelphia for heckling the comedian before him, and counting down the minutes while he does it.
"Seven fucking minutes. Seven fucking minutes left. And I'm doing every fucking one of them!"
Jim Jeffries is up there too. In small doses, though. And never with a female present.
Lol, that Burr video was great, he went on a serious fucking rail. "You guys were here, go fuck yourselves".
Seriously, how the fuck do you have a comedian poll with only 2 comedians?
No mention of Stanhope, Joey Diaz, Hannibal Buress, Tom Segura, Lewis Black, etc etc. I mean fuk.
And holy fuck that was hilarious, so much shit talking about Philly.
Oh – fuck all you people! You know what? You fucking losers, I hope you all fucking die, and I hope those fucking Eagles never win the Superbowl. Go fuck yourselves. All of you… you can line up with your Harold Carmichael fuckin’ jerseys, and one at a time you can all suck my dick!I hope you all get in your Ford Focuses and fuckin’ drive off the side of that faggot ass Ben Franklin bridge. You fuckin’ one bridge having piece of shit city that no one gives a fuck about. The terrorists – the terrorists will never bomb you people ‘cause you’re fuckin’ worthless and no one cares about you.Fuckin’ Rocky is your hero. The whole pride of your city is built around a fuckin guy who doesn’t even exist. You got fuckin Joe Frazier is from there but he’s black so you can’t fuckin deal with him, so you make a fucking statue for some 3 feet fuckin Italian you stupid philly cheese-eatin’ fucking jackasses. The Flyers. Do they even fuckin exist anymore? Bunch of goddamn pansies. Never won shit, since fuckin Gerald Ford was in office. Why don’t ya just get the fuckin Ice Capades down there you assholes. You probably won’t even notice the fuckin difference. That fuckin pussy teams.
Remember that had that whole season when they wore the slacks. You bunch of faggots. What else? What else? I attack your mothers. 8 Minutes I’m doin it all.

Shit I've never even heard of Diaz, Buress, or Segura.
I've never heard of Segura. If I mentioned CK, Jefferies, Burr, Buress, Stanhope or a lot of other comedians, most of my friends and family wouldnt know who the fuck im talking about. If its not a kings of comedy, Red necks, Kevin hart, Inglesias, puppet man ect. most look confused and think im talking about some unknown person

The thing about Burr is he's irreverant, self-depreciating, foul mouthed, and every other thing that makes a comic edgy and hip...but he's also very accessible and relateable to the average Joe. You can't say that as much about kinda dark weird CK, definitely not about brash alcoholic asshole Stanhope. Jeffries like Stanhope is also very in your face and vulgar with heavy doses of drug and alcohol abuse material and some radical atheist and political opinions. Burr can talk about not believing in god and have people feel like they get where he's coming from rather than that he's on the attack.
Buress is kind of abstract and alternative not everyone's style of humor. Lewis Black is very political and socially minded, he's more comparable to like Bill Maher.
My favorite comic is Artie Lange. He's just a darker version of Bill Burr to me but has tons of stories from working on Howard Stern and Mad TV for years. His podcast is amazing if nobody checked it out.
burr all the way
my fav bits
Bill Burr - Muffins
Bill Burr - F*cked Up Thoughts
Bill Burr - Owning a dog
also his Monday morning podcast and Thursday Monday morning podcast are great
best ad reads in the business
I love both, but I'm giving Bill the win by a hair from his bald red haired head. I'd watch Basketball much more often if Bill Burr was commenting.
I've historically liked Bill Burr, and I think comedy wise he is better then Louie C.K but I feel Louie is more like Carlin in that sometimes it's less about the laugh and more about the message. (even though the laugh is like still 90% of it).
But lately I feel Bill is starting to lose his edge a bit, compare his older muffin sketch to his newer stuff. He got married and is actually settling down etc. You can tell he's losing it. Sort of like what happened to Patton Oswalt.
Weird I thought his recent standup was one of the best but most of the stuff was new to me since I dont list to the JRE or Bills podcast all the time
Last edited by Homsar; 12-19-2015 at 05:51 AM.
Yeah, I think the most recent special (the black and white one) is the first that wasn't better than the one before it. But I wouldn't say he's losing his edge. I still like it more than his earlier stuff.
As far as the CK vs Burr, it comes down to self-deprecation. People who can laugh at themselves are generally funnier and just all around more fun to be around. That's why I like CK. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're likely a douche. This is not a knock against Burr, but a knock against the faggots who think he's funnier in this poll. Come at me.
In this style I prefer Louis CK, but I must say I am more a Stewart Francis / Mitch Hedberg kind of guy.
Burr rips on himself all the time. Just not to the depressing level Louis does.
CK, no contest. Burr is no where near as good at timing and is no where near as real. That "approachable average Joe" shit does nothing for me.
Thanks to this thread I just watched the Bill Burr special on netflix. It made me laugh. Louis CK makes me laugh. I win.

I'm pretty surprised that Jeffries even came up in this discussion. I don't think he is remotely as good as the other two but that might partially be because I am somewhat triggered by people who come here from a foreign country and then explain how America needs to change to be more like wherever the fuck they came from. If it's worse here than in Australia he can always go back.
Jefferies is awesome, season 1 of his TV show was hilarious
Feels like LCK is getting less funny and Burr is just starting to rev up. Love em both, right now I'd give the nod to LCK just because of all the shit he has pioneered - making his own show on his own terms on a shoestring and doing EVERYTHING for the show, selling specials on the internet direct for $5, going around ticketmaster to book venues and cutting ticket prices by 50% or more - whereas Burr really hasn't done anything to advance the comedy medium. You can feel the effect of what LCK did on so many things like new Netflix pilots (including Burr's animated new one), how comedians tour, how specials are put out now, etc.
However I think in the next 5 years we'll see a lot more of Burr and LCK will slow down a lot and join the grand gentlemen of Comedy like Rock, Seinfeld, Murphy, etc.
never watched burr until last page someone posted "their favorite clips of him" and they were no were close to be as funny as the least funny things CK has done, so not even sure how this poll is as close as it is.
Jeffries is OK, the problem is if you watch his ENTIRE shows he goes off and talks about random things, most of them just a bit over the top but not truly funny. He carries by personality and eventually you'll tire of it, just like that one dude from the early-mid 2000s everyone liked who I can't remember, tall skinny black shirt blue jeans guy with stubble beard whateverthefuck. Don or Tom something?
Anyway, CK vs Burr... eh. It's tough, they both have their niche. The major difference in the items I've seen (watched specials from both but never seen either live) is CK seems more tethered to 'stuff that happened to him involving X' where Burr actually makes jokes about random things and goes on rants about random topics. At the least, I haven't really seen CK do that much, almost all the clips/specials I've seen about him without comedy would be him whining about being single, children or getting old and fat. Burr is a little more open to tangents and rants.
I agree that Jeffries can wander around and sometimes his humor is basically just being offensive for the sake of it. But he's also got some pretty awesome bits as well.

Yea, I can watch Jeffries. It's not 'turn off the special' bad like some comedians (Lewis Black comes to mind) where they have some really funny bits but they just can't hold your attention for long.
Yea Dane Cook, lol.
I dont see whose getting butthurt. Someone says they dont really like xyz comedian because of some of their material. Am I butthurt because I dont like George Lopez since I cant relate to growing up in the barrio?
Again trash talk french cruisine in france and some arent gonna like it. Trash talk traditional chinese medicine in china and some arent gonna like it. Trash talk guns in america? Well some arent gonna like it.

Jim Jeffries is great. If you don't like him it's because you are butthurt like a little whiney bitch.
Louis CK for days! "Bag full of Dicks" and "rats fucking in the subway" are just so good. It's not so much his jokes, as the descriptions. He's such a good story teller, a bag full of dicks is funny, but getting you to visualize them looking like a bunch of bagettes sticking out of a sack is just amazing.
Louie the show is just further evidence of him being a very funny story teller rather then a true comedian. I just really like the more long form of his jokes.
I still have a warm spot for Mitch Hedburg, I love puns and absurdist humor which he was the master of.
My favorite stand up is Hannibal Buress ATM
Louis CK is the greatest comedian alive.
I know this is old but I just saw it for the first time today. Also, it is relevant because Ep 7, this thread and because I said so.
CK for stand up, Burr for off the cuff rambling. Louie's written material is honed to perfection for his yearly special, then discarded. But just to give one of them any random topic and let them go, Bill Burr. He'll have a strong opinion on it after talking for a bit and by the end will be hilarious whether you agree or not. Could really just listen to him rant on almost anything and be entertained.
put that butter in the fuckin flour man. Oh yeah.
CK's TV show is waaay better than Burr's cartoon, but they are both amazing stand-up acts. Pretty much in the same league there.

Louie seems to be losing a step lately. The last time I saw him, he was funny, but is getting a bit too jaded and cranky. I know that was kind of always his schtick, but he's lost a bit of the lightheartedness. Burr on the other hand is only getting better. I've seen him three times now and each time is an improvement. Gotta give it to ol' Billy Redface
I didn't even know this thread existed, and I've seen both Bill and Louie live quite a few times. Ultimately, I give it to Louie. Mainly because his material is more relateable to me than Bill's. And most of that is the parent perspective. Bill comes close with his jokes about Chloe, his Pitbull (I also have a pit), but the overall father approach of Louie takes the prize. Both are really fucking funny, though.
Patrice Oneal was my favorite though. He was prolific, and I'm glad I got to see him easily 2 dozen times before he died.
EDIT: Oh, I was at the Tweeter Center for the Opie & Anthony Traveling Virus show that launched Bill's massive popularity. Unfortunately, I was drunk and mostly passed out when he was on stage, so I don't remember much of it. Fortunately, someone made a video.

CK's writing and delivery is far better.
I prefer Bill Burr by a long shot, but yeah his netflix cartoon needed teeth. Plus Louis CK was phenomenal in Trumbo.
Too hard to compare. Depends what you are in the mood for really. But either way im gay
Forgot about Patrice O'Neal. Elephant in the room (I think it's called?) Was really good.
Since i saw this poll, i started watching YT videos of both and bill burr is , by far, funnier.
Louis CK early shows were good but the guy is getting worse throughout the years. Burr, on the other hand, was always funny.
Both are cunts imo
But i still think the best was George Carlin.

A war is coming, I've seen it in my dreams. Fires sweeping over the Earth, bodies in the streets, cities turned to dust... retaliation.
Hollywood is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until everything you love is dead.
I had no idea Louis CK even released a special in 2015. I just watched it. That's now two straight specials that are less funny than the one before it. He's definitely losing his edge.
