They didn't go all Dawson's Creek on it like they did Smallville. I enjoy it, but I could do more with hot chicks and less of Oliver Queen showing off his abs in 5 minute intervals.
Cheesy but enjoyable.

I'm not up on my DC characters, but the temporary chick (Huntress maybe? or is that Marvel?) was my favorite yet. Kind of sorry they punked out on her story, but I can see why they did. Still, I'd like it if they teamed up once in awhile so I can see her some more.
If I had abs like Oliver, I'd never wear a fucking shirt. Jesus Christ.
Show has a ton of flaws but its pretty damn entertaining. And I completely zone out and didnt realize who the chick was until he gave her the crossbow
that brunette (helena) is too fucking hot. shes distracting in every scene. the show is still decent. looks like the sister got over her brother lust. now she always looks like she wants to murder him. bad breakup?

Im not a huge reader Green Arrow but I think Diggle could be a pretty great character for them to add to the comics. Guy is doing a pretty good job on the show
It made me laugh that Oliver spent the whole episode telling Helena that you can get justice without killing. Then he goes to the mansion and drops half a dozen Triad without hesitation.
I agree I think diggle will turn into a really great character and probably will serve to always be the one to bring oliver back from the brink. I don't think oliver has a problem with killing if he has to, its just that he prefers the behind bars approach. Helena just wanted to kill anyone and everyone and considered that justice. Anyway, redshirts always die in any show =P
Yeah he's prolly killed a hundred people since getting back from the island lol
There really isn't a difference between the two of them. She is a little more aggressive, and just pulls the trigger without asking questions. He gives his primary targets a choice that he knows they won't make and then puts them down. Henchmen seem to be shit out of luck either way.
Run into ex-girlfriend in restaurant.
Current girlfriend suggests having dinner together.
Oliver tries to object.
Later, "You made me have dinner with the love of your life, Oliver!"
Bitches be crazy.
Probably was the most realistic part of the episode too. Bitches be crazy indeed.
I've never read a Green Arrow comic before but I dig it and Alphas for my superhero fix. I've been wondering though, is Tommy Merlin from the comics or a made-for-TV douchebag?
Tommy Merlin, I think, is where Oliver gets the idea to become Green Arrow from. He later becomes an enemy of Green Arrow.
I'm not entirely sure if this show is terrible or ok. I only watch it when there's nothing else to watch and I'm bored at 4am.
Really good episode, show needs more Diggle though
I'm pretty impressed with the show so far, action choreography is top notch for the CW. There are some groan worthy lines but compared to most CW shows it's reigned in pretty well. They drop alot of Easter eggs for comic readers so that's a bonus.
It's one of the few shows I actually watch live these days.
I thought this would be even worse than the Flash show that was on sci-fi a few years back, pleasantly surprised. Couldn't imagine how anyone could do better with a arrow shooting superhero ...
Good thing Windows 8, Internet Explorer, and Bing were there to help catch the bad guy! I didn't catch the tablet brand, but I have a guess....
Thought Thea was going to mount Oliver there at the end though. I could have gone for some Lannister action.
It was the samsung but yeah I have seen windows ads everywhere on TV lately
Think the product placement was more cringe worthy than some of the lines. People need to take a lesson from Chuck!
Pleasantly surprised by the show. It has quickly moved to the top of my list when I have to go through a backlog of PVR'ed shows. Not going to lie, I'm also a little jealous of Oliver when he does those damn jumping pull ups, no homo.
Another decent episode, not sure how The Green Arrow (Lame!) is going to kill Jack Harkness, with him being immortal and all?!
As for product placement, that amused the hell out of me as Elementary last week had Sherlock clicking together a surface tablet and keyboard and then using Bing on his shiny Windows 8 interface to look something up.
This is my surprise show of the year. Who knew that a Green Arrow TV show following Smallville would be one of the shows I look forward to each week. We should be closing in on his training with the Asian dude soon.
The archer duel was pretty sweet. Just wish it had lasted longer. This also opens the door for Tommy to pick up his dads bow later on if they decide to go that way. Which I am thinking they need to because currently he seems like a waste of writing.
What's fucked up is that the show will probably get cancelled somehow before it gets a chance to grow it's legs. I learned not too long ago, that if you DVR something, it doesn't count as ratings at all. Which is pretty much all I do when I watch TV.
If Supernatural can survive 8 seasons with super low ratings and this is getting some of their best ratings ever I doubt it will be cancelled.
Hell, Smallville went 10 seasons and I bet they could have gone another 1 or 2 if Tom Welling would have wanted to stay. Also Supernatural was always supposed to end at 5 seasons but they were getting such good ratings they just kept going.
I want more John Barrowman though, I miss Torchwood.
wow that was a fucking awesome episode. on the dubya fucking bee network? seriously? who woulda thunkit?? yeah im digging this. looks like the sis is on the prowl for some brother meat again. damn girl needs to be hosed down so she will stop eyeraping oliver. at one point it looked like the mom was checking him out. am i imagining this shit? i mean hes a buff good looking guy, but come on hes just a dude. these chicks act like they were the ones stuck alone on a desert island.
and yeah Oliver got his ass kicked. dunno why cops werent around by that back window too, and dunno how diggle found him and was able to sneak him off to hospital...... ok not gonna nitpick a great ep. cant wait til jan 9th when the last 4 episodes of the season continue.
There are 23 episodes, it got picked up for a full season back in Oct. So more than 4 eps to go.
Honestly with them making Oliver the prime suspect as the "hood" kinda makes everything seem retarded when hes still going out every night getting the shit kicked out of him. Then he gets arrows all over his body and gets the shit kicked out of him and Merlin cant put any of it together... Shit show is amazing like Battleship

thats sweet. you just made my day.
Wonder why Father Queen didn't put Merlins name in the book though, especially if he is the big bad behind it all?
*(or however they spell it in the show, seen it differently in other threads)
I love this show but doesn't anyone get the feeling the talking scenes can turn into a porno scene very easily. They're always getting into each others faces and saying these incredibly cheesy shit.
Also why does Deathstroke only use a goddamn sword/knife? The regular soldiers have assault rifles.
Deathstroke prefers swords. It's just a character thing.
deathstroke is the guy who likes black and white cookies?
Yeah, he was also used a lot in Teen Titans, if you ever watched that. He was called Slade there though.
whats the name of the asian badass guy that trains GA?
He is Yao Fei, not sure exactly who he is supposed to be portraying.
Great episode. I really like the island backstory and wish they'd show more rather than the Oli/Tommy/Laurel love triangle. If anyones nit picking what about breaking carbon fibre arrow shafts by rubbing them against a wall.... Show is full of holes but that wont stop me watching.
I really love the nods to the comic book stuff, like when Dectective Lance tells Ollie that the arrow wil be at the corner of O'Neill and Adams. The writers really make a nice effort to add those touches.
Not sure Merlyn senior knows yet that Ollie is arrow, I'd think he'd deal with him a bit differently if he did.
Also is it my imagination or is Laurel using some enhanced bra's, I don't ever remember Katie Cassidy that well endowed.
I watched most of the first episode, and I really, really wanted to like it. A friend told me John Barrowman was going to be in the series, so that was another draw. But I just couldn't get into it. The acting was sooooo bad, and I just didn't feel attached to the main character. Maybe I will give it a chance again when it has a dozen or so episodes under its belt, and everyone is more comfortable.
Too much exposition and contradiction, cannot watch.
Imagine this show on HBO. Thea makes a pass at Ollie and gets kicked to the curb. Thea turns to Laurel for some commiseration. Sexy things happen. When Laurel starts to get off her Black Canary power awakens.
Was wondering why there wasn't a new episode this week and looked and episode 10 doesn't air till January 16th! Damn holiday breaks.
this show has an 8.3 rating on imdb. is it really that good?
Its not breaking bad quality storyline but its entertaining as fuck. And there is a weird sexual tension going on between arrow and his sister. Also it has capt jack from torchwood, a smooth talking black englishman and several crazy hotties to oogle over.
It's pretty cheesy and the acting is relatively bad at times. That said, it has some good things going for it and I think it's worth watching. 8.3 is higher than I'd rate it, but it's not a pile of shit either.
For me, the best thing it has going for it is some pretty great action scenes. It's refreshing to have a stable camera so you can actually see what's going on instead of all that shaky/blurry shit that seems popular nowadays. Plus the choreography seems stellar with the all the flipping, tumbling, grappling, etc.
what's the pacing like? i watched the first episode when it aired and that was the biggest issue for me
The choreography is top notch, and probably my favorite part of the show. The fights are entertaining to watch and not just "insert shaky action here" moments.
I loved the archer duel scene Ollie had with Jack.
And you really should watch at least up to the Huntress episodes because if you thought the other chicks on the show were hot, she's crazy hot. Well, if you are into chicks, you could be one yourself, or gay, or transgender, or even a furry given this board's history I suppose. In that case, Oliver is fucking ripped so you should watch for him.
I wouldn't give the show that high of a rating either, but it is FAR better than I ever expected it to be, and given that it is on the CW where you don't have to have House-like numbers to stick around, this could easily be another ten season series.
Huntress is easily hotter than most of hollywood. Goddam that chick is incredible
I just wish they would use character's comic book names, rather than civilian names. What's the use of borrowing characters from the comics if only comics geeks can figure out who they are.
Dont forget the Season returns Wed night folks.
It was like that mainly for Clark Kent. They never had the ability to actually call him Superman or Superboy for the show. It wasn't til after the original showrunners left, that the show really upped the DC comic characters showing up. Hell they only showed him in the Superman suit in the last 2 seconds of the series finale.
What, no sprinkler system in the nightclub over his secret lair? And he ditches the fireman about to be killed to put his outfit on? Kinda lame ep
I think he sais his club was under construction and now its even more under construction. Lol. I guess the fire dept there really does suck because they didnt even inspect the site to see if its safe to be there. :-P
They need to tighten it up a bit.
The bad guy in the last episode being a john doe and in a comma for months and they couldn't tie him to the missing fireman was a bit lame.
That said looking forward to the next episode. I do kind of hope we don't end up with a safe cast though, which I can see happening. I would prefer they do a supernatural and kill off people.
The show is finally getting better. For awhile I wasn't sure if the show was awesome or so terrible it was awesome.
The first handful of episodes though (after rewatching them) really were bad. Seems they're getting into a groove now and it's starting to look like a decent show.
8.3 rating? Eh, it's not that good but it's still pretty good.
at some point in season 1 or season 2, dont know how they avoid not haveing him find out that his mother is bad guy.
That she is in bed with them so to speak, she caused his father and step father now to be kidnapped and mind erased etc.
Just dont know if they somehow avoid this, as he will have to kill his mother or send her away.
seems pretty easy to get out of. his mom supposedly "wants out" of her dirty dealings and the only one who seems to give a shit about her is capt jack so when arrow dispatches him she should be ok, unless of course another big bad is his superior and wants revenge.
Didn't Mom have a hand in his dad's ship sinking as well, Or was that just a freak accident ?
I would like to see a darker Green Arrow, and I think they are teetering on the edge of that.
I wonder if the did some makeup on the sister to make her have the same growth on her lip as the mother. Or they are both dirty bitches outside the show
Still want to see Thea is schoolgirl outfit more. .... what? The actress is legal!
gonna check this show out, I hear good stuff about it
This has been succesful enough that they are doing a new show "Amazon" for wonder woman as well. The producers said they are looking into crossover with Arrow on it. Could be really cool if they cast it well.
Didn't really care for this last episode for the most part except the little reveal at the end was kind of interesting I guess.
a couple of things im hazy on. that book of names is at least 5 years old, because thats how long Queen was on the island. the guy's name was way in the middle so its probably a bit older. has the heist guy been pulling these hijackings all this time? whats his relation to the other guys on the list? he works with the Merlin dudes too? in an earlier episode, didnt dig see the book? why didnt he notice his ex afghanistan buddy's name then? i also want to say. that merlin's son is a moron compared to Huntress. she knew how bad her father was where as Merlin jr has not a clue about how evil his dad is.
that episode was ok i guess. i liked how GA insta-killed that guy in the body armor with his arrow. did i also miss when the daughter really did get that car as an 18th birthday present? or is that her bro's car?
At the start of the party she shows off the key-chain for the car to Oliver.
COLD SORE WATCH: didnt see it on either the mother or daughter, but i could have been the angles.
EDIT: Saw it on the sister in the hospital scene

Just fucking tell her already Oliver! If she was going to dob you in she would have done it already.
Add IT bird to Diggles and boom, perfect, we have the new A-Team.
those last 2 crappy episodes made me forget this was on last night. glad i watched this week's because it was much improved. the story moved along. lots and lots of cheese and some decent bodycount totals.
i do like the flashback cliffhangers before commercial breaks. when it looks like Oliver is dead. does anyone think "oh noes, i hope he didnt die"?
I was just amused that Shiva was the new cop and Fringe-guy was the drug kingpin. I was also rolling my eyes at Diggle getting him away clean yet again...only to have them show up at his house and say they saw him there, so at least that was a little believable for a change.
And Diggle even called him on his incredibly lame stories to Felicity, so they are acknowledging some of the dumber plot elements. They still keep stuff like him being able to traverse rooftops faster than a guy running on the ground, and disappearing in 1 second while someone looks away, but that's typical superhero shit so I'll let it go. Glad to see them making some of the other dumb stuff have a repercussion once in awhile.
In agreement that he needs to let Felicity in on the secret too. As she said herself, she's not dumb, so at some point she's going to put it together herself anyway, and Oliver should see that.
I also particularly like how she invariably says something embarrassing or awkward when Oliver shows up. I forget exactly what it was this time, but something about his hunky body I believe.
Anyone read the comics is Felicity in them?
Maybe she will become his Q as in bond with her Intelligence as well are her secretly being hottie when she loses those glasses and the nerd girl look.
Reason asked about the comics is they seem to be seting her up to be some kind of sidekick.
Felicity Smoak is a DC comics character, but she never had anything to do with Green Arrow. There's a lot of that in the show though. Katie Cassidy's character has Black Canary's name but it seems highly unlikely that she could ever actually become Black Canary in the show, with or without super powers. They also made the joke with Oliver calling his sister Speedy but even though the second Speedy in the comics was female it seems unlikely for the show to go that route with her.
Really good Arrow tonight, shit is starting to get real.
Also Manu from Spartcus comes to Arrow was bad ass. I love the flashbacks as said since this show started.
I would watch spin off show or movies just about his ninja training and back story of the isle alone.
Wonder whats going to happen with his mother?
Also wonder how much longer he be to keep away from Laurel both as the Hood, and himself.
Sooner or later this season or next , dont see how he does not tell her.
I was hoping they would draw out the Slade Wilson thing for at least another episode.
that was a fun episode, they're always good when the villains are over the top.
Anyway, this episode was amazing. I loved Arrow's assault on the house. I love how he doesn't give a shit about killing bad guys.
Crixus was great and Mr. Sark was really good as well, although it was weird hearing him use an American accent. I hope they bring him back as he seems like the smartest villain they've given to Arrow so far. His use of minions to make Archer run out of arrows was clever, if a little far fetched.
