Season 1 will go online on Netflix on August 28th.
Pablo Escobar is played by Prince Oberyn from Game of Thrones, looks so damn different I couldn't believe it.
Looks pretty cool, Cocaine Cowboys is a great docu for those interested in the topic and of course who doesn't love Miami Vice
Im excited for this, mainly because Im super fascinated with the cocaine trade.
According to imdb.com Pablo Escobar is played by Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal(Oberyn) plays Javier Pena. That could be why he doesn't seem recognizable.

Two of my favorite things: Period pieces and cocaine.
Were you in Miami during the cocaine wars, Soygen?
Did Ma and Pa Soy run kilos of white?
We were down here(in Ft. Lauderdale, a safe distance from Scarface-like activity) at the time. We moved here in 1979.
My parents were quite boring though. Maybe muled some heroin across state lines a few times, but not much else...
Very interesting source material. Think it might be interesting. Netflix original.

another netflix original lets see if they can keep that ball rolling
Out today. Git watchin'
I got two episodes in last night before I finally crashed. I'm really liking it so far. I can see myself burning through the other eight this weekend.
Really good so far.
If you're not getting positive nettz, you're not trying!
They need to fire their prop people. Guns with visible C02 containers coming out of them and removable handguards on the AR's and rails and such. Really stood out.
The killer of Barry Seal, the ex CIA/smuggler etc...died in Angola prison last week.
I still remember it even tho I was only 15. It was huge news in town. Gunned down at the Salvation army on the biggest road in town.
Mrs Adebisi says I'm going to be fluent in Spanish by the time I finish this series.
Wonder how the followup seasons will go. Noriega and then US Military escalation into the 90s. Or if they'll stay in the 80s and do up the other Cartels.
I was wondering the same thing myself.
I find the main white guy to be quite boring. I don't know if it's his lines, or acting or what.
Oberyn, Escobar, and the guy running the police crew that hunts down narcos are all great in their rolls.
I finished watching this last night and it was great. I thought they were going to wrap this all up in one season then move onto somebody else, but I guess not. My only criticism is the liberties they're taking with the order of events.. I won't dive into the details but the wiki paints a different picture than the series. They must be taking a lot more liberties if they plan to make another season out of this.
Did this creep anyone else out?
Finished it tonight. It was Ok. They did take some liberties as mentioned in the time line. The reason Barry Seal got involved with the DEA is they seized him and cocaine he was bringing and he was going to testify to make that go away etc...The DEA "liquidated" or sold his coke to fund more DEA stuff according to what was testified before congress about it later. Even as late as the mid 90's they were still having hearings about it and having his name come up. He was an interesting guy and a few books about him are out. He had an entire operation going.
I like it, watched the first 3 last night. But one thing I cant stand is all the subtitles, just way too much of that shit. I dont mind reading my movies/shows but it just get so monotonous. Especially since I like to get up, go to the kitchen or something get a drink, or check the phone, whatever, and miss an entire convo because I cant understand Spanish so I have to pause. Minor gripe, but other than that its good so far.

loved this shit. powered through whole thing in day and half.
Just binge watched the first season. Truly great stuff!
Someone told me they planned to run it up to current day. I have no idea where they got that from or if they were full of shit. Seems like a stretch.
So where will next season go? They covered the vast majority of Pablo's more notorious and interesting activities in just one season. The manhunt shit will get old pretty fast...
Will they just move on to the Cali Cartel or something?

I really enjoyed this first season. First time I've binged watched something over a couple days in a really long time.
They played a ton of Reagan soundbites during the first season and focused heavily on anti-communism. I'm thinking they do Nicaragua and the contras who were funded by the drug trade and the US govt turning a blind eye on it which led to the huge crack trade in LA. Maybe we'll even see Rick Ross (the real Rick Ross, not the rapper who stole the name and pretended he was a drug dealer).
But I agree that they'll probably close the Escobar storyline with Los Pepes playing some role.
Maybe Pablo dies in the first 5minutes or credits of the first episode of season 2.
I think there's enough to stick with an Escobar story.
You can easily stretch this another 10 eps on Columbia
Well they already did the search bloc. I think there's enough for another season, but I hope they continue the show after that.
Quite good. I have no idea how historically accurate it is. But it's worth reading subtitles for.
That's cracker Columbia. We're talking Escobar Colombia. Ay dios, mio!
Just started watching and, so far, good show. I'm not seeing the parallels to the quality of Breaking Bad that people on imdb are pointing out, more like a different kind of The Shield. Especially in knowing how it all turns out all of the grey area stuff that the good guys do is interesting to watch while hearing how the narrator internalized and justified the decisions. The translations are really wonky and not uniform from episode to episode. They call people faggots constantly and translate it into something different when one of the main characters says it.
Looking forward to a S2 just from what I've seen so far.
I don't speak spanish, but I did notice that. The subtitles start to get more "fag" in them in the back half of the season. And one of the episodes wasn't subtitled at all, I had to go in and turn them on. THE HORROR.
It's actually kind of strange and I figgured it was a quirk of the subtitles instead of any real change in what they were saying. Hermano, Hombre, Amigo also seemed to be kinda loose and interchangable.
And i've always heard that "Puta" means not "Motherfucker". But there's a pretty long scene with one of them yelling "..., Puta!" and it's translated as "..., Motherfucker!" So he's just callin them pussies I thought. What a weird thing that they cleaned up "You Pussy" to "You Motherfucker".

Eh, unless my cooks are wrong, puta means bitch. So Puta Madre means.. you guessed it, Bitch Mother. Kind of a shitty insult for the most part. Though I guess it is sort of interchangeable with "fucker" in many cases. Either way, calling someone a puta madre is asking to get stabbed in the face. Carry on!
Great show, I'm about halfway through and it's easily one of the best new series of the past year or two. Right up there in quality with Mr Robot and the first season of True Detective, IMHO. Might be Netflix's best original series to date (and I enjoyed Bloodlines and Daredevil quite a bit)
