Bought time Depp got back to real acting.
A war is coming, I've seen it in my dreams. Fires sweeping over the Earth, bodies in the streets, cities turned to dust... retaliation.
Hollywood is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until everything you love is dead.
Depp plays Christopher Walken players a Gangster. Nice!

That is a very strange trailer, is that guy supposed to be doing a Harvey Keitel impression in the background..
Also David Harbour doesn't get enough credit, his range in characters is stupid good. He can play the most menacing bad guy to a very funny news reporter.
It's that Joe Pesci scene from everything Pesci has ever been in. Specifically this scene from Goodfellas.
Johnny Depp acting like a human male for the first time in a decade. Cool.
Looks good, Bulger was a beast.
This is about Whitey Bulger, right?
I really want this to be good. I want Johnny Depp to not be a cartoon anymore (the contacts aren't really helping with that though). The guy can put on a show, but I don't think I can take him seriously anymore. Finding Neverland was the last time the guy didn't seem like a total alien.
the acting will probably be pretty solid, but why the fuck does he look like Gollum?
Feels like he's channeling Jack Nicholson's part from The Departed. Which is appropriate since apparently Jack based his performance off Bulger. It's like some sort of actor's Inception.
Black Mass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And mass as in Massachusetts
And if you wanted to get really artsy fartsy, you could make some comparisons to a malignant tumor, but I'm not sure that was ever intended.
The black mass/Massachusetts thing is almost for certain

Also I'm pretty sure a 'Black Mass' is a real term for a Satanic ritual.
I got a "Black Mass" in my brain after reading eXarc's post.
Just got back from this, I give it like 6/10. It basically seemed like a Depp acting showcase.
an understated ensemble that puts the "b" in subtle
Didn't Scorcese already do this movie and call it The Departed?
One day I hope to be as attractive and well spoken as Tuco!
Depp absolutely this movie. Goodfellas its not, but worth seeing for his performance.
I guess this was just award show bait. Acting was good, everything else was bland and boring. This is not a way to tell a story and make it interesting, had no spice. They could have learned a lot from Narcos or other biopics. There's a brief blurb at the beginning to explain things and that's about all you get. My wife and I were not impressed.
I suppose I am in the demographic, but I fucking hate these types of movies. I lost all respect for Depp when he went on a 10 year career binge of playing a flighty fucking fairy in every roll. Also, artificially aging actors with dye, makeup, and masks will always be a fail 100% of the time. It kills the suspension of disbelief and is distracting. Period pieces suck, unless you are old enough to remember when you drove those cars, wore those clothes, and listened to that music when it was new.
There is nothing appealing about this movie. In a more respectable day and age, they would have at least had the decency to cast a Daddario and promised tits.
Period pieces can be fucking amazing. Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, The Americans. Those are all Grade A.
I'd rather have the actor that can play the character the best over someone who kinda looks like the guy more
Is this worth a rental on Amazon? Or wait for it to hit Prime/Netflix?
Its ok. You would not be missing anything by waiting. Johnny Depp did a good job which was refreshing.
I enjoyed it, but I'd probably wait.
