SE has redeemed themselves with reveals finally. Love these games. Fuck yeah!!
SO3 best non-Persona RPG PS2
Blasphemy. Shadow Hearts: Covenant was best PS2 RPG.
SO4 was a weird game. I really liked the combat, but the story, voice acting, Lymle, and the pedo who followed her around were enough to make it the worst game I ever put into my PS3. I'm sure I'll still get SO5 from Gamefly anyway, because the older games weren't bad.
I loved 4, fade and lymel were bad romance people but other than that I loved the game.
Not sure what the obsession with older beings looking like kids is about from Asia but it's pretty gross. You saw it in tera and other games as well.
Hopefully this doesn't suck a bag of dicks like all of the Star Oceans past 2. I loved Star Ocean 2.
Though I'd have a hard time finding a favorite RPG from the PS2 era. Aside from the Final Fantasy and Persona series, the (dot)Hack series was decent, Rogue Galaxy, Chrono Cross, Dragon Quest 8, Suikoden series, Valkyrie Profile, Xenosaga series, Tales of the Abyss, etc. Star Ocean 3 was really good too.
Then the EQ stuff, Champions of Norrath which I really enjoyed and Everquest Online. Still remember being at college in the US and the UPS guy knocked on the door and delivered my beta CDs for that. Was fun.
Don't think I will ever own a console that will get as much use as my Matrix chipped PS2 did.
As to this game, will probably be a day one buy like any RPG. Not exactly that many RPGs these days, so buy the ones that are released.
You bitches make me want to go back and play the first 2 shadow hearts games Covenant was amazing, i don't remember much about the first, i bought that later on after playing covenant heh
SO5 is looking sick, i just really hope they get better NA voice actors than they did for TLH, god they were so awful
Wonder how well Suikoden did on the PS4 releases, would like them to do the same with some of these because I've played everything listed so far with the exception of Covenant.
Pussy bitch Draegan sold us out to MMORPG.com
Exodus underway to Rererolled - A Gaming Community
Oh and sorta fuck Tuco too.
Was SO3 the one where they enter the 4th dimension, cease to exist but because they love each other very hard they re-exist or some stupid shit?
Need a JRPG where they don't beat the ultimate evil thanks to friendship bracelets and pinky swears.
I absolutely detested The Last Hope. That and Tales of Graces F are the only two games in recent memory I just couldn't finish and quit half way through. Lymle was by far and away my most hated character I've put up with. Then they introduced this cat woman girl that was only slightly less annoying that compounded my misery and I couldn't take it anymore. Fuck that game.

Edit: Oh wait, you're talking about Meracle and I was thinking Welch for some reason. Point still stands though.

Sarah was waaaaaay worse than Lymile and Meracle imo
Lymle is diarrhea tier dude, i can only take such bad acting and enough 'm'kay?'s until i want to commit sudoku irl
Everything about her is awful lol
Japanese voiceovers plx. Dubs have always, and will always, suck exactly like that one. To expect otherwise is wishful thinking.
Every character was cringeworthy throughout that whole video. Every word and every voice

Square Enix: More Unannounced PS4 Titles Coming in 2015 - IGN
So,...perhaps we get a new Parasyte Eve? Or a completely redone PE1? before it was turned to shit.
I'm dubious about games releasing on last gen and next gen at this point.
I kind of doubt that's going to have much effect on games like SO5 and Persona 5.
In general, RPGs aren't as graphic and system intensive as a first person shooter so it doesn't really bother me that it's on PS3 and ps4.
What does the combat feel like in these games traditionally? FF7 like? Menu->attack->watch shit? or is it more actiony?
Surprised no one has mentioned how stupid the title is.
Never commit sudoku irl. Crosswords are better
Definitely, never do a sudokuken!
Square Enix Will Host a Press Conference at E3 2015, Promises | DualShockers
Squeenix coming out of the shadows to display FF15, SO5, and what else do you think will be shown? They have quite alot they can be up to right now. I am hoping for PE, Dragon Quest, The Last Remnant(never going to happen).
Kingdom Hearts 3 for sure.
Square could totally capitalize on Capcoms monster (haha pun) hit MH4U by releasing an action combat online mission system with this where you grow your character over time.
Fuck Capcom. Fuck them for keeping the good online combat games away from me.
My cousin recently bought Tokienden Kiwami or something, he said its more fun than MH and hes been playing it pretty religiously. I checked it out but as i could never get into MH this was not much different. Plus im pretty much against buying most ported games to begin with.
Not sure what this has to do with SO5, but thats fucking amazing if they can deliver at playable framerates on decent hardware.
Since this has not been updated --
Some SO5 Gameplay.. I like how they did the seamless transition into battle.
Also an interview: Star Ocean 5 producer on the lessons Tri-Ace has learned from Star Ocean 4's foibles | GamesBeat | Games | by Dale North
yay!GamesBeat: Is Motoi Sakuraba still working on the soundtrack for this game?
Shuichi: Yes. There’s one tune for the battle scenes that’s great. That’s my favorite song in the game.
Lots of recent news.
Game play here - it really starts 13 minutes in. I love the transition of battle. Most of it is menus at the beginning lol japan.
And on the music side, because I love game music from sakuraba, SO 5 doesn't disappoint and carries over the SO sound very well - sounds much more like SO3 than 4 for me. Battle theme sounds very similar but goes into a nice transition around 2:00 in. Boss theme is kinda weak though, kinda surprising there.
Looks really good, guess I should finish that SO4 platinum before this comes out... bahaahhhaahahah fuck you battle badges...
Try doing it twice. Somehow though I suspect SO5 won't be as crazy in that regard.
There is another video with a TON of gameplay footage.
Fastforward to 26 min 30 sec.
32:50 looks like you can change BGMs ? (I dont know Japanese ) That would be .. different. Or maybe they were just doing something goofy for the demo.

Zone they are in looks huge. Not a fan of the enemy pop in like that though.
March 31, 2016 (Japan).
I would hope the US release would be close to that, like with SO 4. Time will tell.
Can't wait! God I hope this shit doesnt come out like 9 months after Japan. I'm gonna be on this shit 24/7 haha
@ 1:15 that looks like the gate on styx from SO3 that leads to... yeah, that place.
I hope none of the content is tailored to western audiences.. lol. I can't wait for this.
Coming to NA June 28th
Dope, that's a solid amount of time to be over Dark Souls 3. Those DLC items sound pretty OP though? haha
Any word of a collector's edition?
So what I gathered talking to a streamer...
battle trophies are back, but universal now (they count across multiple playthroughs)
you cant skip cutscenes unless they are the full CG ones (which sucks as 80% of the cutscenes are not full CG, so most you cant skip - that shit has GOT to be fixed there is no excuse for that)
there are save points, cant save anywhere you want
game is very short, but story is "enjoyable", guy beat it in about 20 hours per the in-game clock.
post-game is huge, and there's a shitload to do
all in all he gave it an 8.5 overall
STAR OCEAN: INTEGRITY AND FAITHLESSNESS COLLECTORS EDITION [PS4] | Square Enix Online Store
not sure why anyone would buy the CE though, if the day 1 edition includes most of the DLC and you can get it for $48 at amazon / best buy. Doesn't look like the kind of game I'd like though.
Fucking Steelbook Case 100% worth it all the In Game DLC stuff will be worthless after a few hours into the game like Pyros said..
Despite my expectations being dropped, I'm still going to 100% everything including the battle trophies just like SO4
Yeah I said fuck it an pre-ordered this. In the mood for a traditional JRPG and 25-30 hours of length is fine for me.
GameFly shipped it out for me today.
The length doesn't bother me either. I just hope that the story is better this time, and there's no characters so ungodly annoying as Lymle, her pedo stalker, or Welch.
So...meh. Still have Stranger of Sword City i'm playing on PC (NIS game that is kind of fun and decent character progression to an extent), Grand Kingdom and Total Warhammer which is pretty decent game but I'm to annual rentative about losing fights so i always rage quit when i lose a fight.
And all that was irrelevant, umm ya!
There is levels but they really mean nothing, it's just more HP/GRD/HIT/MP, Skills can be leveled via CP points, it seems in this one they really improved upon the AI of the Console controlled characters there are now "job" levels that you can setup with each one having a different kind of AI and jobs can be mix matched too further customize, but there is 1 character you have no control over. 7 characters on the battle field at once is gonna be fun
And just checked my CE shipped Thursday should be here tomorrow.
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Review - GameSpot
Battles are beautiful to watch and fun to execute
Combat roles and skills systems offer an enjoyable layer of strategy
Shallow, cliched characters
World feels empty
Audio and visual mishaps yank you from the experience
Sadly doesn't sound like this is the case either
Guy reviewing the Japanese version. From 3ish minutes in until 6.30 he talks about the combat. The distance attacks and the combos/chains that can be achieved by cancels and such.
It sounds good in theory, but apparently in game the strong attack cancels itself, letting you build up a max multiplier by using the same attack over and over. He said that from 4 hours in to completing the game + side missions, you basically spam the same attack. Using the system as intended will look more spectacular, but drastically reduce your damage output compared to just spamming your strongest skill.
Hopefully tri-Ace's next game (Exist Archive, coming west in October) turns out better, especially since making a spiritual successor to Valkyrie Profile is far bigger shoes to fill than a Star Ocean sequel.
The Bilinguist dude did a review of it and was pretty positive about the game, contrary to his opinions of SO5 above.
Not sure what to think or whether to buy. Western obsession with sandboxy wrpgs has coincided with an escalating, reflexive hostility to jrpgs and makes it difficult to take reviews seriously. Otoh, a lot of people who DO like and enjoy jrpgs are saying it's shit, yet others are claiming the people dismissing it are merely disappointed that it isn't SO3-2, that the game is fine, merely different from its forbears, and a 25 hour jrpg isn't the end of the world.
RR bros never let me down in times of need. Lemme know!
It's weird. Used to be you could be pretty safe in saying that if the Japanese don't even like a JRPG it's probably shit. Except Japan didn't like this or TMS #FE much, but in the west SO5 is getting even worse reviews, while TMS is getting much better ones.
Games like this are why I keep the GameFly sub running. No way I'd pay $48 for it, but I'll give it 20-30 hours of my time unless Lymle 2.0 is as unbearable as the original.
Yeah, #FE reviewing well here surprised me since that game bombed in Japan. SO5 didn't review well over there either but I was expecting more 7s, not 5s
Still waiting for my copy, not sure if I will return it either or not. Anyone have experience returning shit to Amazon? Part of me is just saying fuck it and enjoying it for what it is.
