I've yet to receive a code, looking forward to trying this out.
Closed Beta starts on Thursday, but they will be giving out codes till they have their desired number so watch the site if you're interested and werent in the 2 beta weekends.
There, on the Horizion! Closed Beta! | World of Warships
I think I just wet myself. (I was in the two beta weekends, and I liked it.)
Also I'll just leave this here for the gif at the bottom of the 3rd page... [World of Warships] Close Beta Announcement March 12th - Gameplay Discussion - World of Tanks official forum - Page 3
I'll be sinking of you...
Honestly this is going to be glorious. That said, I really do not like the WoWP and WoWS tech tree layouts, they just irk me not having the options of WoT. Yea, I know they are similar to classic WoT but meh. That said I can't wait until they add individual variants of each class too, which they are setting up by using the actual ship names vs. class names.
Ya, I prefer the WoT layout, but I started to get used to it over the 2 weekends so I'll live. Urge to torpedo someone risING!
Wonder if theyve wiped or I'll still have my ships from the 2 weekends? And, having seen that video, also wondering if being able to blow chunks off the icebergs will become a real thing? They've been yapping about building destruction in WoT for a fair while now but have technical issues with it, but with WoWS designed new from the ground up it might be practical in this game.
Tarrant- theyre going to be giving away codes at the beginning till they have the number of testers they want (They havent said how many that is), so start camping the place beginning of thursday for code opportunities if you want in. Obviously that goes for everyone else too.
Just to add a few assorted videos for people who havent seen them-
One by Jingles, who some may know from his WoT videos-
And last, lets end with a smexy battleship video-
I watched the steams yesterday. Looked like a random clusterfuck of running around in circles hoping to shoot someone. Hopefully that changes as they get more experiences at it.
I got into the beta, but not downloading till I see some changes in videos before I invest any time in it.
So a few things to note:
1) Gameplay does not really feel as deep as WoT yet. Obviously still in low tiers but it seems like there's less "doing" and more "planning to do and hoping it doesn't go tits up".
2) Not sure where voiceovers are, I can't hear them in the beta. It really sucks when you're not sure if shells are doing anything if the scrolling combat text is obscured.
3) Ships are just way, way more prone to over-commitment than tanks. Obviously. But for the map size it seems sometimes the best option is just to clump up and wait for the enemy instead of actually pushing anywhere. Doesn't work on every mode of course.
4) Destroyer smoke screens are dumb. They should literally 'lay' smoke as they go, so they should have to literally fucking go in a big circle if they want a big ass circle of smoke. Right now they are just like 1/4 cubic mile of smoke just appears instantly. It's dumb.
5) Game feels empty without crew skills and equipment like tanks. Just not as much 'customization' or whatever. Yea yea bullshit blizzard 'illusion of customization' whatever, still like it.
Overall, cool game but very shallow right now. Might run aground. Also, zero damage for running aground is kind of dumb, not that it isn't extremely punishing when in combat but still.
I guess number 5 there's commander stuff and ship upgrades when you 'level up' so I guess there's that.
Unfortunately, there's one thing that goes along with number 3 - the end of the games are stupid, stupid slow. You get this shittastic group of slow ass ships who need to catch up with 2 carriers 300 miles away and it is just ... 5 minutes of painful nothingness. Sometimes they could cap it out but it can go really slow anyway and other times they're just far as hell from the cap points.
I would give my left titty to try this. I never had much of an interest in world of tanks, but warships apples to me on a whole nother level.
I just noticed that you can buy into the beta for $29 and that gets you a premium tier 4 cruiser, some gold and 30 days of premium. It's a little more than I'd want to pay for access to the closed beta of a F2P game but some people might be interested. I don't think there is any word on how much longer the closed beta will be continuing.
Edit: Adding a link.

Not worth it game is just unengaging right now.
I'm kind of excited to try it out but I suspect it will fall off quickly for me as WoT has. Kind of fun to fire up every now and then but not compelling over the longer term.
My issue with WoT is that I have been completely unable to get into a single platoon (at all), much less a random that will cooperate and communicate. Probably will be the same with this but...it's boats!
I have a feeling we'll see the Yamato ram the Iowa within 5 minutes of this going live...
Has anyone heard whether they are still sending out CBT invites? I applied a month ago and have not heard anything. I'm guessing they have all they need at this point.
Kinda doubt it since they are selling access already.
But really, it's just not worth it right now. You can find better browser naval games. I hope they fix it unlike WoWP but we'll see.
I do my monthly check in on this game: How is it coming along, CBTers? I signed up about the time that the CBT started and never saw an invite. I've watched a lot of streaming and I'd like to try it out but I'm still hesitant to drop $30 for what is essentially EA on a F2P game, especially when it's almost certainly about to exit CBT.
Anyone have an invite code they haven't used? How is play polishing up?
There's not really been much changed. Few balance things in the next patch mostly.
As a beta tester here's my take:
The Good: An interesting take on the Wargaming Team vs. Team model--way better than the competitor (navyfield2)
The Bad: Wargaming Matchmaker Balance (tm)--I don't know what the malfunction is at wargaming, but they have ALWAYS had issues with matchmaking in their games. WoWS is no exception.
Lack of "interesting" options. So far the american tree is the way to go for any ship (CV/BB/CL-CA/) The IJN has a decent DD line, but overall there is very little balance between the trees.
Thus far wargaming has been content to push premium ships out (i.e. pay-to-win in a supposed beta) rather than expand nation line or add additional.
I'll play it for boredom's sake but it is definitley, thus far, a disappointment.
As much time as I've spent watching streamers, hoping to win an invite code, I might as well just pony up and buy it. If I hate it, what's one more $30 game that I only play for a couple of hours?
I got an invite code and I haven't downloaded it yet.
Looks like a lot of fun. I ended up watching 5 videos from Jingles channel today, on this game.
Hang out on certain forums that are in way shape or foum related to gaming. I got mine and offer of another from a WG employee that has a similar interst to me, he works at the Austin office.
He has been giving out about 10 a week in a 1,000 page thread related to WoT there. But he has to "know" you.
Yeah, one of the streams I was hanging out in had a WG employee hanging out in it. He was not the streamer but just a friend of the streamer. I think he was a researcher for the WoWs and supplied 10 keys on Memorial Day.
Seriously, the game is just not that fun. The cool factor of seeing decent res historical ships shoot each other degrades quickly when you realize it's a carbon copy of WoT without the necessary adjustments to the core game modes allowing for some key differences in committing a hundred million pound ship to combat vs. a 50t tank.
That's why I haven't downloaded it. From the videos I have seen it looks incredibly boring with people going around in circles and figure 8's at T95 pace turn turn turn. I'm sure there's some strategy to it, just doesn't do anything for me.
You should donate your key to a worthy cause. Like me.
It's just not very coordinated. The only positive side is I still have hope vs WoWP where it was clearly just never going anywhere.
Open Beta now available. Damn this Chester is slow...
Pedal faster, peon! :P
God, dive bombers are such trash.
Decided to try it out. Tired of the window lickers in WoT which seem to get worse and worse every day. It took about 50 matches to really get the feel of the game and contribute.
After that I'm kind of enjoying it. So far really only playing cruisers and battleships. Have no desire to play carriers and I'm sure if I played a destroyer much I would TK a lot with torpedos.
They gave away a free Albanay. Which basically means 250k or whatever it sold for and a free port slot.
If you can't stand windowlickers in WoT, I don't know how you can stand the portholelickers in WoWS...
So far it hasn't been that bad. So far I've found it easier to carry than WoT. I ended my career with a 56% win rate in WoT over 20k matches and I just couldn't put up with it. At least WoWS I get to experience new window lickers as opposed to knowing 30 seconds in what the real idiots are going to do to be ineffective.
Final straw was a game that was running out of time that got down to 1v1. Our 1 guy started capping and the other guy on the other team started to cap. The other guy was an idiot becuase when he started there wasn't time left. Easy win right? Nope, our guy drove out of the cap circle with 10 seconds left to cap with 20 seconds left in the game. Draw.
It may get worse later but for right now it's fun.
