Dragons Dogma Online is a free-to-play title for PlayStation 4, PS3, and PC - Gematsu
F2P w/ ability to buy gear w/ real money? The online aspect i dig but c'mon now.....really?Development started with the basic desire of taking Dragon’s Dogma and making it playable in an online environment.
The game couldn’t be made in tandem with Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and was therefore pushed back.
Capcom contemplated a monthly fee, but chose freeo-to-play in the end in an attempt to get more players to try it out.
Though paid items are present, the game will still feel like a proper Dragon’s Dogma game.
The story is completely new and there are no character connections. (Editor’s note: We take it this means no character connections to the previous game.)
The game world will initially be the size of what players have come to expect from previous games, but will expand over time to be three times larger in scope.
Parties are formed in the lobby, after which players depart for the field.
An effort has been made to emphasize the strengths and traits of individual classes, but it’s not balanced so strictly that players need to be super meticulous about party makeup.

I am pretty sure this will more or less be their DD2. Play with pawns or with friends, so its more or less DD w/ friends which should have been in the first one. I personally am still interested in it due to the fact i wanted original to let me play with friends and not pawns.
We'll probably never see it in the US, just like Monster Hunter Online.
FFXIV: Xanthala Kurenai - Excalibur
NNID: Man0warr, FC: 3480-2650-2736
Sadly I think Man0warr is right on this one, Capcom is usually pretty stubborn about online games like this. Doesn't help that DD did not do so well in the west from what I've read.
F2P by Capcom is already a pretty fucking bad sign, but yeah it's also unlikely this is ever ported. If it is well, I don't expect much anyway, because of the first thing, F2P by Capcom, which means it's gonna be a fucking shitfest of microtransactions that aren't so micros. Game kinda looks good though, kinda makes you think what could have happened if they made DD2 instead, fucktards they are.
This reminds me of Vindictus. Same idea with team building in town and teleporting to the dungeon, no tab-targeting, etc. Hope their combat system is at least as good as that.
Good thing is it will be on the PC, so other then translations we will still get to play it.
big article on Kotaku about it
According to the developers, the world of Dragon's Dogma Online will be roughly the same size as the world of Dragon's Dogma, but will be expanded over subsequent updates to roughly 3 times its original size. The main story will also be continuously updated in "seasons," with each season serving as a full chapter in the story.

Dragons dogma was a different sort. I dont remember in Vindictus being able to climb onto the giants/dragons/griffons/ect to be able to hit them on their weak spots or knock off armor. DD's combat was its main attraction, and all it really lacked was multiplayer. Instead you had a system where you and others could raise a main "pawn" and share them with friends or have them hired out by randoms online. It wasnt a terrible system, but in the day and age of everything being multiplayer it seemed out of place.
I dont get why they held out info for so long if its so far along in development, I still think capcom is run by idiots.Just one day passed from the full reveal of Dragon’s Dogma Online, and the developers are already giving more information about the game on the official Twitter account. Today Director Kent Kinoshita revealed a new piece of concept art (which you can see above) and a few tidbit about the story and the development situation.
Kinoshita-san mentions that development is going well, the game already received its rating (CERO C in Japan), and the team is now in the fine tuning phase, including balance adjustments. He also mentioned that it won’t be long until the version for testing will be complete.
While he did not specify if he means public beta testing or internal testing, Kinoshita also mentioned that the game’s story is focused on the quest to awaken the “sleeping God,” probably indicating the sleeping dragon showcased in the artwork above.
Hopefully this game will find its way west sooner or later, because it seems definitely interesting. In the meanwhile, we’ll keep you posted on any relevant development we’ll receive.
This just reminds me I never played Dark Arisen.. need to do that.
Wow, can't believe I missed this. incredibly fucking stoked for this.
Well, don't get too stoked heh; it hasn't been announced for a West release and its pretty likely that Capcom won't bring it over.
Capcom is pretty bad about shop stuff anyway. I hear Monster Hunter Online is stupid because of that shit.
Why isn't a Western port likely? Wouldn't they make a substantial amount of money on a Western release?...
I thought DD did well in NA and similar regions.
I'll play the Japanese version if I have to!
Capcom is historically kinda stubborn when it comes to porting their stuff to the West, especially anything online.
Is this confirmed/denied for the west offically yet?
No western release confirmed.
FUCK CAPCOM WHAT THE FUCK. FIRST THE FUCKERS DENY ME MONSTER HUNTER FRONTIER. NOW THIS!? DDOS THEM FUCKERS TIL THEY RELEASE BOTH IN THE US. CAPSLOCK RULES!.
They already fucked up the game by making it some stupid MMO, who cares if they bring it to the west.
an understated ensemble that puts the "b" in subtle
Dragon's Dogma is 100% about killing shit. Fuck Story. Built perfectly for an MMO.
Lol I can see a western port getting fucking ugly with p2w
Yeah MMO DD can suck it. P2W and endless rebalancing circle jerk will suck all the fun out of it. How could they fuck it up so badly after what a masterpiece Dark Arisen was?

Fuck that. I want Deep Down to come out (and come to the west) not this abomination.
Vorph#1334 - D3
But yeah. Deep Down is secretly the reason I bought my PS4, since Destiny flopped imho.
I really dont see any online PC titles coming out anytime soon making me build a new machine or anything.
Basically, aside from perhaps crowfall, nothing on the PC online market is going to get my hyped minus MHF or Dragon's Dogma Online.
Fuck you Capcom.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu do want.
Bikeman streaming it on Twitch now
EDIT: hmmmm... Beta is in Japan, but several of the UI elements are in English.... This heading to the west?
- Most of the main tab / on screen messages are in English, but every long description is still Japanese.
EDIT 2: vod
Timed url for some large enemies/bosses

However, since also every menu bar, popup message and initial descriptions were in English, I do think it is headed for a western release at some point. If it was a purely localized game, I don't see why they would start the UI translation process.
Downloaded this today and played for a little bit.
Why the f they don't port this I don't know.
It is Dragon's Dogma Online. Played with a controller, and it has close to identical bindings to the single player version. It is greatly optimized, no fps lag at all on max, while looking as good / better than any mmo I have played recently.
Translation patch translates most menus (not the tutorials though, which is a shame), skills, controller options, and some story/movie parts.
Can easily play it by watching
Can get the newest translation pack here (#10)
(DDO Translation Pack Instructions - Album on Imgur) install instructions for translation pack. Very simple.
Problems I had when installing
- For Japanese VPN, it does not recognize / accept my VPN server address for Japan (PrivateInternetAccess). However, when installing that Hotspot shield (as recommended by the video) it worked
- The installer freaks out when swapping monitors / display ports. No idea why. I use my TV as my main monitor, and when I started the download, then switched to my PS4, it broke the installer. Stopped the download (tried this three times, happened every time, do definitely a standard problem). However, when I just opened up the installer on the laptop screen, it worked fine. It is 14 gigs.
- Only part of the install guide that I did not find accurate was the ability to turn off the VPN. I get auto disconnected if I do that. Also, the game client will not even let me get past the login screen if I don't keep hotspot shield active.
Not sure what else could be the problem. Just remember to download the client, not the benchmark.

Is there a crack for hotspot shield because they make you pay to use the jap vpn after the timer runs out.
I was able to get into today, just used your suggestion for keeping the VPN. Although it took a few tries for it to finally patch the install
And then I made the mistake of making it full screen which won't allow me to launch the game anymore. Looking for the .ini to change the setting, but meh tired of this now.
Might try to install again later.
