It's a crazy world we live in.
A twist only M. Knight Shamalamadingdong could be proud of.
No more unicorns.
The prank call sucked and people shouldn't prank emergency services. That being said the nurse was out of her mind for committing suicide over such a non-event.
I always said radio talk shows were dangerous.
I read the entire article... Did the DJ's actually say anything bad to the receptionist? Why'd she commit suicide? From the perspective I'm getting (haven't listened to the phone call), I don't see a connection. O_o
No more unicorns.
You can't "make" someone kill themselves. She killed herself because she was depressed.
Keep in mind this was the person who transferred the call, she wasn't even the main person being pranked! As others have said, she had much more going on than the embarrassment caused by the call. Yes the DJ's were stupid--who the hell thinks prank calls are funny anymore--but they are not responsible.
Wait, so she killed herself simply because she was embarrassed?
If this was in America she could have turned this into a $100M lawsuit and laughed her way to the bank
Holy fuck, I thought the phone call was going to be some harsh fucked up shit with how much coverage this is getting. That shit was so tame, there is literally nothing offensive about it... why did she commit suicide over this?
an understated ensemble that puts the "b" in subtle
its ridiculous the DJs are getting heat for this other than its not 1985 anymore and radio station stunts are fucking stupid in this day and age. just play the fucking songs. nobody wants to hear your plastic banter. if you were talented you wouldnt be in fucking radio.
Please rename this thread to "Prank phone call ends in superior gene pool."
I wonder if the career of these DJ's is over, or if they'll be able to turn all of this publicity into a boon.
One thing's for sure, as stupid as that bit was, no reasonable person could have predicted it would end in someone committing suicide. The public outcry against them has been pretty ridiculous. They already have to live with someone's death on their conscience, which they seem extremely contrite about. I just hope everything works out for them.
The media is completely railroading these DJ's for a good story. Their making it seem like they verbally cooked the nurse alive and made her kill herself--their playing off the whole bullying craze. But that call was completely and utterly tame. I guess the exchange nurse got some flak from the floor nurse for not vetting the call before putting it through, but enough to kill yourself? If there was enough bullying to kill herself, it came from the hospital staff, not the DJ's.
What a pile of bullshit. Those DJ's got fucked.
The worst part is that the days prior to the suicide, no one gave two shits what the DJs did. They were just excited to have info on Kate. Then some nut decides to kill herself over it and now they want to point fingers....
Not their fault imo.
Wait a few months and all the lemmings will move onto another "outrage" and they will probably start a new show.
I don't think the DJs are at fault for the death of the nurse whom I feel badly for, but they shouldn't have been wasting the time of anyone at an emergency room.
This thread sucks. Here is an actually funny prank call.
Draegan sold us out to MMORPG.com
Exodus underway to ReReRolled.org - A Gaming Community
I'm glad she's dead.
While the hospital admin staff may have overreacted and given her beef the Royals pretty much just brushed it off, they get that shit all the time. Hell one fuckwit Canadian DJ pretending to be the Canadian PM got put through to the Queen once for a 17 minute conversation before he outed himself.
Shame that a mother of two managed to get herself so worked up she topped herself over it. Fuck the DJs though, ringing the Royals at Buck Palace is one thing but fucking around with hospitals? Not clever.
Reminds me so much of the stupid fag at rutgers suicide. Nobody cared what the peeper did until faggy boy kills himself. Same with this nurse whore.
Fuck people who kill themselves. As far as I'm concerned anyone fucked up enough to actually commit suicide did us all a favor by removing themselves from the world.
This thread and the Oregon shooting thread are connected by one thing. Crude insults and dismissal of mental illness. Is it any wonder why people avoid mental health treatment when revealing your condition gets you instantly labeled as a whore, nut, 15 year old girl, and better off gone from the gene pool. Without treatment the pressure builds until you snap which can sometime have two very different results.
One of three apparent suicide notes left by the nurse at the centre of the royal hoax phone call criticised staff at the King Edward VII hospital where she worked, the Guardian has learned.
Jacintha Saldanha, 46, was found hanged in her apartment in the nurses' quarter of the hospital in Marylebone, central London, by a colleague and a security officer, an inquest into her death heard on Thursday. Three notes were found, two at the scene and one in the nurse's belongings.
She was found dead three days after two DJs rang the hospital from Australia posing as the Queen and Prince Charles in a prank call which Saldanha answered and put through to another nurse on the ward where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for morning sickness.
The dead woman's family has been given typed copies of the three handwritten notes by the police and has read the contents, the Guardian has been told.
One note deals with the hoax call by the DJs from 2Day FM, another details her requests for her funeral, and the third addresses her employers, the hospital, and contains criticism of staff there, the Guardian understands from two separate sources.
this is how you ruin your career.
Tom Mabe pranks telemarketers It's hilarious.
No more unicorns.
Why are radio DJ's still a thing?
The whole affair is pretty sad, it's a shame that they tipped a mentally ill woman over the edge, but on the plus side, that's two less annoying assholes who think they're funny on the airwaves.
" I wonder if you are destined to be forgotten. Will your life fade in the shadow of greater beings?"
This was all over the british news last week. The nurse was being treated for depression prior to the call.
The hoax call was not live. It was pre recorded and screened by the radio stations legal department, before being aired. The radio station contacted the hospital on 5 occasions, trying to get permission to play the recording. No one at the hospital would call them, so they played it anyway.
It was the DJs first week on the job.
It seems radio presenters are the doucheiest humans, ever.
Been a while and it looked like the dust had settled, but... One of the DJs, Mel Greig, has decided to sue her employer for failing to provide a safe place of work. Not sure how that'll pan out, but pretty ridiculous in any case.
What a clusterfuck.
Still, I have to echo the thoughts of others here and wonder how the fuck radio is still a medium of any sort. I can have essentially infinite music anywhere and anytime of my choosing and if I prefer playlists made up by other people (not a bad thing) then I have access to literally hundreds of thousands of internet 'radio' or other streams. None of which have ads as an aside.
I'm old ffs! I'm in my goddamned mid-40s! Who the hell is listening to radio anymore and why?
i still listen to the radio. im in my 40s and when i barbecue i dust off the old ghetto blaster and for a few hours listen to the classic rock station while i cook.
I like to listen to NPR when I'm running around (except the weekends, fuck they got the worst shows on during the day). NPR doesn't have adds per se. I used to listen to music all the time, but I got tired of my station playing the same fucking 10 songs over and over, so I just stopped.
I'd listen to the radio if there were any stations that catered my needs.
Talking FM, not web based.
