The Realm Online 2.0
Non-kickstarter adventure games again? It can't be....
Mobile games for your phone and shitty tablet.
Ideally, this would be:
1)Quest for Glory reboot using something like the Assassins Creed engine
2)Kings Quest reboot using the Skyrim engine
3)Police Quest reboot using the LA Noire engine
I would be thrilled with any 1 of those.
Or maybe a new Space Quest?
Excited to see what this is regardless. I grew up on Sierra games in the 80s, mostly because that was about the only game publisher whose games would consistently be compatible with my shitty Tandy 1000 computer from Radio Shack.
New kings quest where you have to type everything you want your character to do, or bust.
I remember beating Kings Quest 2 by myself as a kid on a neighbors computer. Years later I played the KQ where you start off kidnapped by the wizard. I vaguely remember it was a *really* odd game, poorly designed too. If you didn't do something simple in the beginning, or you pet the cat wrong, you'd lose 10 hours later. That and they tried to fight people pirating the game by making you type in whole paragraphs from the manual. Fun! =\
Didn't Sierra games also have keywords used to actually unlock the game? Like open the manual turn to page 43, 4th sentence, 2nd word?
The Dagger of Amon Ra 2. Play as the villain!
This will be Activisions version of Origin/Uplay.
Sometimes it's wise to think backwards.
I remember when the spoiler guides required red filter cards so you could only read line by line.
Hint books that came with a yellow highlighter that you had to use to make the answers appear in the book
Invisiclues! I needed that for hitchhiker's guide
Those games also got "big" towards the end. I remember Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis taking up like 10 MB of space on the hard drive and thinking that was a shitload. Then CDs came around and the games themselves weren't too much bigger, so they stuffed them full of shitty videos ;p
I think through Hero's Quest 2, I must have called the "Sierra Hint" line that I actually knew which buttons to hit on the phone to get through the menu. Phone bill was well over $100 that month, but I grew that damn tree in the desert. AOL-Never Winter Nights, lets just say that phone bill was way over a few $100 dollars.
I can still remember doing the entry passwords for King's Quest III and IV. I'm old.
The Atari ST we had for KQ IV required me to do some really WEIRD business with the floppy drive. Normally, I'd stick it in at the "enter disk #" prompt and it would refuse to acknowledge that I had done so. If I put the disk in really slow (to the point of holding the eject button so it would retract slowly while inserting the disk), it would be fine. Was the only game this happened on, and I still have no idea how this could happen or why.

3 the spells were the, lock.
4 book words before the game finished loading, hah
I actually think 4, was the last one to have some kind of protection, I don't remember any of them for 5 and on, (exept 7 ? I think, had the steps up the cliff face directions, you could get up there without them though.)
Kings Quest 6 had protection. It was the "page 27, paragraph 4, 5th word" type protection I think.
One day I hope to be as attractive and well spoken as Tuco!
hmmm, the last few kings quests though were mehhh, guess we will see how things go with it, my gut tells me a bomb =/
Kings Quest was the game that actually got me into PC games. I never even touched the PC before that. I think I started off at Kings Quest 6, then got 4, and hell.. I think I got 5 when I was like 11? I tried to get all the Kings Quest games when I was like 15 or 16 but never could find the earliest versions of the series and gave up.
Torins Passage was the only game from Sierra that I think I ever beat as a kid, though. I always got like half way into one of the Kings Quest games and would get lost. Never did try the newest version of Kings Quest 9 or w/e.
Like others, that logo is like... burned into my memory. Sierra played a huge part in my childhood for the PC. Sierra Online for The Realm, too. Although the Realm isnt popular (would you expect it to be this far from release? lol) the guy has kept it up and running with a few updates here and there. It would have done better with a cash shop, yea - but I think it has a trial. I couldnt remember my account name and password even if I wanted too, though.
I played thru all of King's Quest 1-5 on PC I remember my parents having to upgrade the computer for KQ4,( From a 8086 - 8088 + more RAM took the local store were I lived about a month to get all the parts around for it.)
Telltale does an excellent job with already laid out stories, so we'll see how much there gonna change, or if there gonna stick with the original style(please I liked the typing adventure ones the damn point/click ones are nice but mehhh.)
I never played KQ6+ till years later.
I honestly dont know how I would like having to type in stuff anymore. I always hated the guessing game that went on with EverQuest with what I have to specifically type. Having multiple options, ala Bioware Quest - might be a welcome upgrade for a Kings Quest type of game. I mean.. any upgrade would be nice, but that one I think would fit best.
You didn't have to type anything in the last few King Quest, and most of the other Sierra's quest series toward the end. They had a context sensitive menu if I remember correctly or a point and click...might be confusing interface between some of the adventures game of the era though.
I would welcome most of the series back...King Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest and Gabriel Knight.
i got a game called quest for infamy recently for like $4 through steam trade, dunno much about it but its supposed to be a kickstarted project from people who were really, really, really into quest for glory. my sister played that game when we were kids, that and kings quest were the only games she liked, which pretty much made me assume both were games just for girls
