you have to make a good movie, or i won't buy a ticket.
Jake Gyllenhaal does a TMZ version of American Psycho? Looks kinda neat.

"I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology.
Jake Gyllenhaal has become one of my favorite actors.
You can't go wrong with a movie about people crawling around like worms
Saw the trailer at the theater today. Not sure if I will see it at a theater, will definitely check it out on DVD/Streaming though.
Screeners out for a few days now. Solid film, Jake Gyllenhaal did a great job of making me hate his character and I think this movie deserves the attention it's getting.
I knew little about the movie before watching and wasn't sure what to expect but it's very much a Jake vehicle - Rene Russo and Bill Paxton's characters exist only to highlight how he messes with people.
This is a different psycho to Patrick Bateman but equally as creepy. He's a depraved fuck who will do anything to get ahead, and it makes for sick and sometimes funny viewing.
Will be good to watch this again on Blu Ray without the giant writing.
Jake Gyllenhall seems to be making some quality movies.
I also like the way he interviews. His sister goes over the top art fag about ACT!ing. Jake has a little bit of that in him but then he'll be consciously self aware enough to go, "Well, I mean, you know... it's a thing." Which seems about how it should be. A good actor should have a little bit of that in them. They should be somewhat stupified by the process, but at the same time comfortable with it.
Will watch this one.
fucking outstanding film, i saw the red letter guys raving about this movie and figured i would give it a go. was not disappointed in the least. easily the best drama i have seen this year so far. this may change when the oscar bait films come out in a few weeks, but right now this is tops. god that dude made me hate him so much.if i had to say what movie this reminded me of , i would say this was kind of the idea of Mother Juggs and Speed, starring Larry Hagman, Raquel Welch and Bill Cosby. a gypsy ambulance company poaches sick people from the regular EMS, it had a lot of the same elements including a scene of the guys fucking with the competing ambulance company.

It pretty much does in two hours what Aaron sorkin failed to do in thirty hours of Newsroom.
Great movie. Jake Gyllenhall is starting to really earn my respect as an awesome actor. If you enjoyed this watch Enemy. It's different but I enjoyed it.
Yeah I can't think of the last Gyllenhall movie that was bad.
cant wait for his movie southpaw. its getting dumb how much actors change their bodies for movies though
Great movie, shame it didn't get oscars attention. Gyllenhaal was very good and the film was really well done.
watched this again, holy shit Jake is becoming one of the best actors. so heartless in this movie.
also if you thought he looked unhealthy heres his next film

Finally got around to watching this one (had the screener for a while but those letters pissed me off). Man, this was a really good fucking movie. Gyllenhaal was creepy as hell.
Seconded. 9/10. Creepier than fucking Buffalo Bill.
Let's not forget Jake's magnus opus, Bubble Boy!
No way in hell that news anchor called the cops before she called her cameraman.
EDIT: Referring to the ABC10 report:
holy shit when that car starts moving
man cops can be pretty awesome
A+++ video not what i expected
was she a hooker? was that a mercedes?
I watched this the other night, I really enjoyed it. Something about Jake's performance reminded me of Bale's performance in American Psycho.
Watched this on Netflix. I'm guessing that the people that liked this movie also like Driver. I disliked both movies for the same reason. I don't find watching socially inept autists acting like sociopaths entertaining. I made it about an hour in and I was so uncomfortable I had to shut it off. So props to Jake for the character, but I'm glad I didn't pay to see this in the theater.
For what it's worth, I didn't really like Drive, but I thought this was pretty good. Mostly I was in awe at how believable Jake portrayed his character.

I never cared for Drive much either and this was one of my favorite movies last year
I really liked Drive but had trouble getting into this movie. Just didn't care about any of the characters at all and it was uncomfortable to watch.
I didn't enjoy Drive and thought it was a completely different film.
I don't watch a lot of suspense/thriller/horror films. What other good films are there that portrayed the kind of textbook psychopath like Lou was? Taxi Driver comes to mind. American Psychopath is similar but much different in the details.
After watching it I couldn't really think of a film that portrayed the high functioning psychopath better, especially one from a business-minded perspective. Plus, maybe it's the proletariat in me talking, but I remember studies that show how psychopathic tendencies improve CEOs/entrepreneuers, so him demonstrating that in a very clear way was interesting.
Uhh Drive was great. Even better it trolled fast and furious idiots.
yeah. same. I liked Drive.
Nightcrawler... I can respect it. And, its well made.. But I would not recommend anyone actually watching it. Painful and uncomfortable to actually watch.
Uncomfortable to watch?
why do so many people find this movie hard to stomach especially on this forum. Also comparing this to Drive is retarded
Are we talking about A Serbian Film?
The only movie I don't think I'll ever watch?
A war is coming, I've seen it in my dreams. Fires sweeping over the Earth, bodies in the streets, cities turned to dust... retaliation.
Hollywood is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until everything you love is dead.
I will not watch those movies
I was more of referring to just all the fucked up shit on the web over the years, I dont see how this movie can get under peoples skin with all the other fucked up stuff they've seen out there
I stopped watching this simply because I wasn't enjoying any of it. Whether it was "creepy" or not doesn't really matter, it just held no interest for me. Maybe I missed out on a great movie, but I still have no desire to sit down and finish it. Just not my type of movie is what it comes down to I guess.
I think I enjoyed it because I don't watch a lot of thrillers/suspense movies so this felt new to me. But I totally get why people didn't enjoy it because it made them uncomfortable.
There is a pretty good payoff at the end though. It's probably not worth sitting through if you don't enjoy the first third of it. He gets more and more creepy over time.
If you were unsettled by this movie, were you disturbed by The Talented Mr. Ripley too? It's kinda along the same lines.
I loved both movies, but it's telling that some critics think Jake's char was more callous and vicious though he didn't kill as many ppl as Damon's char and they were both equally opportunistic.
I think Ripley was coming from a different place, a more clearly damaged and broken one. His violence was reactionary and stressed while Lou was opportunistic and calm. He wanted to be wanted in a way Lou didn't really care about. So he's easier to relate to in my mind.
