Hype train full speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed ahead
I seriously can't wait to see this. It looks fantastic.
Fucking not playing anywhere by me, gonna be a bitch to see. Shame, looked forward to this more than almost anything else this year.
Oh shit, there's trickery employed but most of the movie is presented as one long take. I gotta see this.
Getting great reviews. Can't wait to see it.
This movie was so fucking great. Go see it if you get the chance. Perfect mix of dark humor and very cool surrealist insanity.
I'm actually hearing that it's the best movie of the year. I should go see this.
I ended up seeing this last night. It was an excuse to go to the theaters and see that StarWars trailer. It was done very well. The entire movie (except for a flash or two at the end) was done with what looked like a single take. There weren't ANY cuts to be seen. Granted, they must have made a bunch, but you certainly couldn't tell that from watching it.
Pretty good movie about a movie start that was at the top of his game back in the 90's, and he's been struggling to reclaim his old glory. He's devolved down to opening a play on broadway, and dealing with all the hassle that's involved in a play.
Interesting film, full of psychosis. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't give it movie of the year.
It was filmed in, what I read were about 10 minute takes. So pretty long sequences, but it was pretty clear where the cuts are. Like when he walked in and out of doors / hallways and the screen went completely black, or up and down the stairs with some quick pans. Not to take anything away from it. It made the whole movie feel really good. Cinematography was from Emmanuel Lubezki, who also did Gravity, Tree of Life, Children of Men, etc...
Nothing crazy, but will spoiler just because. tl;dr: great movie well worth admission.
Glad we were away for Thanksgiving and got to see it since it won't play around us any time soon.
Pussy bitch Draegan sold us out to MMORPG.com
Exodus underway to Rererolled - A Gaming Community
Oh and sorta fuck Tuco too.
i enjoyed the movie, but calling it the best movie of the year is ludicrous. the ending was pretty disappointing.
The movie may or may not be available on the interwebs.
I was just trying to figure out where to post that a SHITLOAD (yes, caps-worthy) of screeners just showed up on the webs. I've got a full weekend ahead of me it seems.
It's Oscar season. Everyone with a SAG card is allowed to vote, even people that just handle lighting. They ALL get screener DVD copies of all these movies. As a result, they make it to the internet. Always around Oscar season.
Belated hollywood xmas present to the world
Some parts were good. Some parts were annoyingly slow. The ending was a bummer. I enjoyed the parts where they were working out the details of the play, like the lines, the most, which was heavy in the beginning. I was hoping it would continue like that. It went real heavy into other stuff instead. The jellyfish thing was cool though.
7/10. Well done, novel, usually tepid with a few moments of intriguing
Pretty good, great performances. Some parts of the story seemed to disappear after a while.
I completely agree with Keaton getting a best actor nod for this movie, but I really don't see why there is so much buzz about it being "best picture". Keaton was brilliant, to be sure (especially in the scene where he's faking about his father being a drunk. His range there is insane), but the rest of the movie just falls completely flat and adds various sideplots that never go anywhere at all.
I thought Norton was the best performance in the film. Keaton a close second.
This movie was way more artsy than I thought it would be. Did not enjoy.
Saw it last night, loved it. The way it was shot to look like one take was absolutely awesome.
an understated ensemble that puts the "b" in subtle
It's a well done movie with a great cast who give amazing performances. Unfortunately I found the story a bit dull.
I watched this among many of the other Oscar nominees yesterday. Wasn't terribly impressed any of them. This was still good, but I think it was just a weak year.
It took a long time to build up to things going off the rails and when things went off the rails they didn't go off the rails hard enough or long enough. Everyone does a super good job and the story is good but I wasn't blown away or anything. I think it would have been more interesting if they weren't constantly playing down his powers as delusions and left it more ambiguous throughout the entire film.
I thought it was fuckin great. Keaton was awesome and so was Norton. The faux single-shot style was great and really lent itself to the structure and presentation of a play. Alejandro González Iñárritu rarely disappoints.
Watched it and while I think it was great (performances) I somewhat got bored with the story. I know it's oscarbait but to me it felt like at some point story didn't matter and it was all about actors studio. Both Keaton and Stone were IMO very good but Norton aced the thing, he got that James Dean / Denis Hopper feel pretty spot on.
After reading the Oscar thread I thought this movie was going to be some amazing masterpiece. I'm glad there are a few people in this thread who weren't overly impressed. Keaton was decent, Norton was amazing at the beginning. Otherwise though, the story wasn't particularly captivating.
if this thread didnt keep getting bumped i would have forgotten all about this film. its nowhere near as good, interesting or creative as Nightcrawler.
just bought this on amazon. loved the fuck out of it. as an aside, going to check amazon for nightcrawler b/c of the post above. the trailer did look good.
but, birdman was fucking solid. great
fuckin nightcrawler isn't on amazon for another 3 days, i'll peep it then

Eh, I could have done without the last 10 minutes / epilogue, and they did overindulge in 2 or 3 scenes... but it really was a very good film. It wouldn't have been able to end the way that it did, he would have had a watcher. Other than those few complaints it was Stronk.
I liked Nightcrawler as well. Also Stronk.

This movie was awful. For a comedy most of the... comedy was shit. The plot was predictable. The "acting" was pretty solid.
This movie is a bunch of actors masturbating for two hours or however long this snore fest lasted. This movie is for people that wear turtlenecks and drink coffee made in places you couldn't find on a map before the internet.
Two thumbs up.

As a whole I think the movie is overrated, acting and camera was great but script is nothing special. I think a lot of people also just really want Keaton to have a comeback, otherwise there is a lot of actors that deserve best performance. JK Simmons for Whiplash, Jake Gyllanhaal were fantastic performances

Simmons and Hillenhoulie both deserve the win. Birdman was pointless from start to finish.
movie sucked and was boring, stupid single shot shit, wows! gimmick.
Norton gave a good performance, but 1989batman sucked, no idea why ppl liked him.
In its defense. One camera shooting is a gimmick, but a very difficult one. Its much lazier to shoot a bad drama a few weekends a year over the course of 12 years
But whatever, I'd watch Beedie do laundry for 2 hours and complain loudly that she was robbed if she didn't get an award.
I enjoy Keaton. The Company is really decent and a bit recent. My favorite movies he's done are probably The Paper and Gung Ho, but they're both old as shit now.
Keaton did well here, it's just that the movie is kind of ~bleh. I enjoyed the first few minutes the most because they were uber-focused on show issues, especially when Norton shows up. Then they just go off on this tangent about how pitiful Keaton's character is and I was waiting for them to get back to shaping lines and timing.
chaos is likely correct, i am sticking with the birdman is real however. the dude having a mental breakdown and killng himself on stage makes the movie suck instead of just being ok.
I enjoyed this but I really don't get the best picture hype. I normally hate Anderson(aside from Life Aquatic) but I'd give it to GBH.
after watching all these again i feel the Nightcrawler and jake got screwed
Couldn't make it past 30 minutes....
Boring movie. Weak set of movies for best picture this year. Shame.
