That door sound effect gave me chills.
Please don't be shit.

While I seriously doubt they can create anything that comes close to Doom 1/2 or even 3, simply because the mods that came out for those let you make whatever you want out of those games, the recent successes of Shadow Warrior and Wolfenstein give me some hope. If they can deliver on the feel of the weapons and great level design, preferrably of the non-linear variety, we might be in for a treat as long as they keep exposition, cutscenes, QTEs and audio logs to a minimum.
If you are getting nostalgic, get Brutal Doom and be blown away.
The shotgun loading sound too! Was that the Cyberdemon? I still remember thinking WTF will this be the first time I heard him stomping around before the door opened.
It's almost certainly their new take on the Cyberdemon.
I think I'm going to pretend I didn't see this. I know I'll be disappointed, and if I allow myself to get excited at all, I'll probably just finally collapse and die of terminal game disappointment.
Someone just remake all of the old school Doom games in a working modern engine, but with no mechanical changes. Brutal Doom, basically, but less of a pain in the ass to get up and running.
the reason d1/2 were so great was the multiplayer, it started the whole first person shooter craze. doom3 was more story and graphics. just give us a balanced game w/ replayability, and some silent bfgs
Yes, multiplayer was fantastic. Especially being able to play through the game cooperatively, which since then has been sorely missing from 95%+ of all FPS. System Shock 2 being the only other example I can think of.
I spoke with Carmack at a QuakeCon I was competing at, while they were working on Doom 3. Asked him if it'd have coop multiplayer, and his response was basically blah blah we're excited to have story-driven cutsceney type bullshit blah blah... I just kind of tuned him out while I focused in on his stupid face, holding myself back from punching him. So yeah, I really don't have any hope for this. Assuming it's him/Id, I didn't see anything specific in the trailer.
Carmack left id awhile ago, didn't he? I guess this might have his fingerprints on it...
One day I hope to be as attractive and well spoken as Tuco!
He left for Oculous like 6ish months ago?
EDIT thinking back on it might of been just about now last year he left.

i'm sure his genius is stil in the code that will be doom4. the problem is doom2's gameplay was greatly influenced by the other guys at id back then. john romero, american mcgee, few others. those guys would DM ALL the time, and the balance in MP showed.
Just don't try to turn this into a fucking Resident Evil game again and we kew.

Doom 3 wasn't that bad. D1 and 2 had co-op play? I guess I don't remember that, hah.
If they actually put some focus on 1v1 I might be interested. Things have been primarily team based for years though and I don't see that focus changing.
Doom 3 was good. Just dragged up on in the beginning up until the shit in the monitor room. I had headphones on and was playing in the dark at 1am: When they came through the monitors in that room I jumped up and yelled something incomprehensible at my screen.
For that unique experience alone I give it high marks.
One of the guys I game with said he'd heard rumors of internal bickering and lack of direction hence the constant scrapping and start overs, and may have been a factor in Carmack leaving. Who knows, just hope it's good :-/

Nah, you could modem that shit. I played with my friend constantly from miles away!
In the unis we played via IFrag, made by the fellow that went on to make Kali.
You have some serious prescription rose colored glasses if you remember Doom 3 as being "good".
I don't know what the fuck people expected from Doom 3 that left them so disappointed. High speed circle strafing while gunning down hordes of enemies?
Then they would have accused the game of not moving forward. Once you're that big, people will always piss on what you do.
Doom 3 was great, and I enjoyed it like few other games back then, this has nothing to do with rose colored glasses, I remember people bitching about the most ridiculous issues because they wanted to be unsatisfied.

Doom 3 was also released during a time period where FPS games were all in the multiplayer craze created by Quake 3/UT/CS so alot of the younger players expected D3 to go into the same direction instead of being a single player game like their predecessors and pretty much every shooter from the 90s
While I don't agree Doom 3 was "bad", you have to agree it was retarded for them to have you choose between "see where I shoot" (flashlight) and "shoot" (everything else). I know some mods later made it possible to attach the flashlight onto a gun but that was just ridiculous. I spent most of my time clubbing zombies in the face with the actual fucking flashlight.
the Doom 3 version that you can get on Steam has the flashlight mod enabled
Those noises bring back so many memories. I remember playing Doom 2 4 player split screen on a N64, 4 people huddled around 13" black & white TV for HOURS while in college. GD I wish they would make good FPS games again.
Poor guy has no idea how to dodge that BFG. Wish I still had some of my old demos around.
ifrag, there's a name i have no heard in some time
i was a long time member of the houston dwango server.
I couldn't play against locals, they'd just quit. I had to sign in to sirdoom as other people to get anyone to play, heh. And even then I had to do shit like not use the BFG at all, not use the SSG too much, etc. I started playing long distance against people from newsgroups or IRC. It was a rather expensive habit.
My favorite thing in Doom was dodging everyone's BFG shots, then tricking them into thinking they were dodging mine when they were actually moving into the cone. Most thought that you just had to get behind the player to be safe.
And in the early days, hah. So many people trying to play with gamepads or just the keyboard.
Best player I ever played was Xoleras. Mostly for his d2map11 play. Dude was quite the freak.

New Revenant looks a whole lot better than that Doom 3 thing.
We gotta figure out what those Russians are doing. - Doomworld Forums - Footage and screenshots of the canceled Doom 4 version.
Thank god they canned that.
I remember co-oping Doom 1 (and Wolfenstein 3D, and Spear of Destiny) with my brother back in the day. On one computer! Head move and I'd shoot/open doors. Was hellafun!
If this is what we get at E3 instead of Fallout 4 there is absolutely no justice in this world.
Okay now this is a Doom game I can get behind. No sneaking around with a flashlight survival horror, but Doom 2 style blasting and gore.
No female protagonist, lots of violence, F-
I'd like to play with game with Oculus though.
Pretty much what I want out of a Doom game. Fast paced, gory, as well as macabre (the part in the gameplay video where he goes and grabs a hand to advance is funny). Loved the crowd reactions to the moments we all want to see, especially the Double Barreled Shotgun.
One of the things doom has that other games have gotten bogged down in is very untechnical, fast combat. This game seems to be a little too much in the crazy cinematography. We'll see, but sometimes I long for the days when blue key card just teleported into your bag, a rocket launcher hit to the leg was the same thing as one to the head and jumping was VERBOTEN!
I wonder how mp will work with the radial slowdown. Obviously it can't... so, limited weapon selection in MP? or just no slowdown? And then, wonder if it can be turned off in single.
the female protag joke.. honestly, Quake 3 did have Crash.. don't see why it wouldn't be easy to have a female space marine model/voice. unless I suppose the single player is more story/char driven then it seems.
I didn't know Bethesda owned the IP now
Sup, Monica. Don't forget to register at re rerolled
I watched 6 minutes of the first trailer and it looked kind of meh to me. Hard to say not knowing any story element or if they'll just have as much dialogue to find like in the previous game. I enjoyed the last installment but this looked pretty meh to me from what they showed.

Doom 3 was released around the same time as HL2, so it was kinda judged in comparison to it
They did at least figure out that their multiplayer doesn't have to have the same rules as their single player (snail speed, reloading, etc)
new screenshots released today, looks like they removed the piss filter. I thought the technical alpha was ok last month, was kinda fun and fast but matchmaking was awful - 4-5 mins just sitting around. hopefully that was cuz few people were playing (which is weird). I don't think there is an official release date yet, but rumors are june 2016 (right around E3 I guess)
This game might be too insane for me to play on VR

Now THAT is Doom. Not that fucking flashlight shit.
They just need to remake Serious Sam now.
If it plays fast and frenetic, with tons of enemies, it's DOOM. Yet to be determined, but those shots look pretty nice.
The few alpha multiplayer videos showed the game at basically Halo 2 levels of movement and speed, which is concerning...but I'll hold out till I can see it played on an actual PC by someone who isn't terrible at fps before completely judging. New Unreal Tournament maybe the only arena fps for the next decade at this point.
I was blessed to grow up with Doom, and especially Doom 2. My dad and I had subscriptions to DWANGO (Austin, specifically, but if I wanted to rack up long distance fees, I would dial into Houston), and then my Uncle opened up his own BBS (Bigtoe BBS). I can't remember the protocol that was used, but it later allowed matchmaking with Warcraft 2 and Duke Nukem 3D. I remember Quake 1 making our dialup connections cry. Quake 2 birthed the built-in internet support, but no matchmaking and required servers. But I digress... Doom 3 was a disappointment for me, because it lacked co-op, it lacked speed, lacked monster density, and the environment didn't "feel" like Doom. Not just the coloring, but the whole thing. The music, the sounds, too many boring, claustrophobic hallways. Switching between flashlight and gun was pretty stupid, but later fixed, obviously. There were no huge sprawling outdoor areas. It wasn't macabre, as someone also mentioned. It had all of Carmack's wonderful engine, but none of the original team's design aspects that made the original Wolfenstein and Doom games great. Level designs weren't very involved in Doom 3, and it really wasn't a challenge. Difficulty levels with a variable number of monsters is also something Doom did that is done very, very infrequently. Back to co-op, that's the reason and only way I'll play Halo.
Also as Croetec pointed out, the guy playing in those demo reels sucks at FPS.
Things I remember about DWANGO... my dad played primarily with an old joystick, and I was a keyboard cowboy. Once we logged in and got our asses kicked, we were learning mouse the very next day. DWANGO 5 Map 1 was the definitive map, but I think Map 4 or map 8, and the other DWANGO wads (1-4) were used regularly. Most folks shunned DWANGO6 because it was made by a different author, but it still had a good version of map 1. Having a faster computer meant your shots were prioritized, and folks with Pentium 75+ were notably more "accurate" than DX2 66's or below. Felt like hot shit when everyone started getting 120 and 150 MHz procs. And when having a SB16+ actually made the game sound better.
DOS command line launching, and the launcher application for local games. Shit used to be such a challenge to find matches.

Pretty sure I learned modem init strings and shit on DOOM trying to play DM with a friend using ProComm Plus. Those were the days!

Oh and sorta fuck Tuco too.
As long as it relates to hell and not fucking Aliens then im cool...and yes fuck the flashlight.
THIS IS SPAR...DOOM! Holy shit that was nostalgic. If machine games is involved in this - they are awesome. The Wolfenstien reboots are great.
Because we only stand for being owned and used for profit by our own. Rererolled.org
Highly scripted. And AI was shut off clearly in a few spots. But the things we were concerned about are all there IMO pace/tempo being the primary thing. I don't want a tunnel crawl and a flashlight, nor a game where I need to take cover every 5 seconds ala real world. And not quite Duke3D
Yep more excited about this than uncharted, division, or what other shitty weeboo indie port is coming out.
I foresee myself being very love/hate with this. It looks like they've gotten some things very right for a DOOM title, but I don't need fucking flashy mini-scenes (that clearly take you out of action and/or pause it) of ripping a goddamn tooth out of some thing's mouth and stabbing it with it, or ripping out a cacodemon's eyeball, or whatever the fuck else. Goddammit, what's fucking wrong with a game where you just SHOOT SHIT? FUCK!
God I am trying so hard not get hyped for this, but I just can't help it. Playing Brutal Doom the last couple weeks hasn't helped either.
If this is even half as good as Brutal I'll be pretty happy.
game definitely looks brutal

Was almost hoping for an MP format almost like Natural Selection where one side is humans and one side demons. That does look pretty fun though. Really satisfying looking bullet ragdoll physics as well.

eff that, we need railguns so we can remember that we lose our twitch abilities as we age!
Bring back Q2DM1 imo
