You had me until "MTV"
So if you aren't aware of the show, its a show on mtv that was created by a few guys when one of the two faces of the show, Nev, video recorded his own catfish experience and made a movie. A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances. So in the show these two guys, Nev and Max, help someone who reaches out to them actually meet up with the other person they have been talking to online. Many cases these people have been talking online or over the phone years without ever actually meeting up and the results are usually unpredictable and almost always very weird.
With my wife and I having met online before meeting online was cool we are totally fascinated with this show. It was already an insanely small chance we met online and now seeing how many people catfish other people, it is amazing we both turned out to be who we said we were.
This season has been a bit of a let down so far, with the wife and I's rl experience we really like the romanticism in the show, is it legit, how much are lies, and do they hook up/stay friends in the end? This season really hasn't had any of that so far, only 1/4 episodes and the previews for next week said its not a romantic catfish so thats a bit of a bummer. I really thought I wasn't going to like last night's episode for that reason, but watching this kidd cole guy trying to bumble his way through it really saved the show. It was hilarious, right before nev threw the guys phone in the water my wife says I would take that guys phone and throw it in the water. And sure enough, thats what he did and then you hear the producer say "shit", lol hilarious. And then when they go to the makeshift studio the next day they're like "oh, this is nice", when you can tell they are really thinking who the fuck do you think you're fooling bro? we work for mtv, you don't think we've been inside a real music studio before?
So yeah, I was just thinking about last night's episode laughing so I wanted to talk about it and realized there isn't a catfish thread. If you weren't aware of the show before and are fascinated by the human psyche you may wan to check it out sometime.
You had me until "MTV"
I've seen a couple episodes. It doesn't feel very MTV-ish at all. Some of the episodes are heartbreaking.
One day I hope to be as attractive and well spoken as Tuco!
Yeah, mtv is just who picked up / help produces the show after Nev released his movie, it could be any network really. Although it is funny in that a couple of times the catfish claimed to be someone famous so they are able to just call someone at mtv who has connections to try and confirm/deny the person's story. For example last night the guy was claiming to be a rapper on Kanye West's G.O.O.D record label so they called up someone at MTV and were like have you ever heard of this person? And they said no, but we certainly have connections at G.O.O.D studios so let me give them a call and let you know.
Trust me, I don't watch anything else on mtv either.
