So awesome. Thanks for the link.
if you're looking for a quick EQ fix, this is the place to go.
set in the world of vanilla EverQuest, but with items and abilities also inspired by the likes of Diablo and World of Warcraft. the whole thing is just battles.... class design and itemization is complex enough to be pretty interesting, though. i never find myself playing for more than an hour or two at a time. currently my Shadow Knight is level 45.... not quite high enough to kill these guys yet:
^ these videos are with the designer's test characters, keep in mind that they have better gear than most people will have at that level.
its just one guy programming/designing the whole thing, just for the fun of making his own game. its pretty fun for what it is... he updates fairly often, too, so the game is getting deeper/more interesting by the week pretty much.

So awesome. Thanks for the link.
Is this what I think it is?
when i told the owner that i linked the game to over here, he expressed concerns about advertising just yet because he hadn't implemented server-side storage/accounts yet.... currently all your character data is stored purely in your browser's cache. so if you're playing, keep that in mind. i already accidentally wiped my characters a month or two ago while clearing out my browser data.
accounts should be implemented soon, though.
oh, and as for updates -- he just finished the itemization for Nightmare difficulty.... you can't unlock Nightmare until you beat Cazic and Inny on Normal, tho.
he says he's done making new zones (every land zone from vanilla is in, as well as Plane of Hate and Plane of Fear).... i'm trying to talk him into adding Sebilis and Veeshan's Peak, tho... chain killing dragons in VP just sounds fun as hell to me, heh.
someone else was also chattering about Plane of Sky, but i don't think he responded about adding that. maybe.
Just the mention of 'EQ' and 'Browser' together is enough to rustle some jimmies here
Hey, nevergrind developer here. Maybe something like a hidden cow level? I think it would be amusing to put some secret content in there.
I gave it a try and it seems pretty cool to dink around on. I'm playing a warrior and doing well so far (think I'm around level 20). Only bug I've encountered, that I know of, was in Kithicor I got a named to spawn (queen klackinik or whatever) and she dropped a lv 24 required item. She is around lv 12 and I was lv 12 when she died. Item didn't seem THAT much better than my current gear so I'm thinking it's just a mislabeled level requirement.
Also, if you camp out mid quest, you have to start that quest over it seems. Something to keep in mind when you have to kill 10 of X, 8 of Y and 12 of Z to get the quest named to spawn.
I think some of the quests are designed to be like 'dungeon crawls' have to clear so many mobs before you get to the boss. I have a paladin at lvl 47 and I usually just do one quest in a sitting. Its a pretty addicting game if you get into it. The itemization is pretty good for the most part but I agree some items dont really match up with their level requirement.
HOLY SHIT WHERE IS TYEN???!!!!!
^ it can be pretty tough if you push yourself. i made it to Vox at level 39. wasn't able to beat her, of course, but just getting to her was pretty intense.
Whats with the WoW icons?
Ill try it but the wow skills/icons seem pretty weird in EQ
From a purist standpoint, yeah, I guess that probably is a little odd, but they were the most accessible, appropriate icons I could find. The classic EQ icons are really plain by today's standards. If you have a better idea, I'm all ears.

Yeah it just seems a bit strange to me having wow ones. I dunno what or where you could find different ones however.
Classic EQ ones always seemed fine to me personally, Although My favorite were some custom AI ones I used in like 2002-2003 but I doubt those are around anymore.
But yeah, gonna try this when i get home from work tonight looks fun.
I took a look at the 15-year-old sprite sheets and it just didn't seem workable to me. Plus there's very little variety. I had 15+ skills on the screen at once, so variety was important.
Oh, it's worth mentioning that I even used to use WoW item icons, but I switched to EverQuest icons. My only regret is I had to stretch the images a little more than I wanted to. The old equipment icons are only 40x40 and my icons are 64x64. There's noticeable degradation of the image quality, but I think it was worth it to have the classic icons. Converting stuff from a 640x480 game to a 1280x800 game has its pitfalls.
I have not felt the shame I just felt pressing the arrow keys for over 2 minutes and getting pissed I couldn't move since my early days of EQ.
Hahaha! You're not the first person to think that it was a 3d environment. Maybe I should pop up some kind of message.
Also, Maelfyn could you make it so the hp window and target window are moveable? Sometimes I play on a 1366x768 (or whatever it is) laptop and have to scroll up and down to see everything that's going on. I tried moving my chat windows and skill bars up a bit to compensate, but then I can't see the mobs entirely and I still have to scroll when I want to change zones or use a merchant.
Not a bad idea. I can make them draggable just like the rest of the windows. Tricky part is repositioning the buffs. I might have to redesign that a bit so they all share the same parent and buffs appear underneath instead of to the right.
Thanks for the feedback guys. It goes a long way toward making the game more fun. I only wish I had more free time!
so i started playin this today and got a shaman to 20 but im confused the shaman vid shows shaman skills like canni and dots.. but im not gettin any of those? was there a design change. or do they just come later?
The final skill unlocks at 38 for each class.
Local storage in your browser. Accounts coming when game is out of beta.
Maelfyn what i was wondering about the skills wasnt so much when we get them because im getting skills now but it seems like they are stock skills i waas more interested in the shaman specific ones like talisman of altuna plauge and canni.. are those still in? and SOW
and also how often does that ladder update as i still dont see my name on it
All of the skills for each class are shown on the character select screen. The leaderboard updates instantly. Character name?
( ya nevermind ima complete moron.. i thought i leveled a barb sham to 20 and infact im somehow a barb war with a shield... so goahead call me a moron i deserve it
still a very fun game man im enjoying it alot! great work man seriously
Q. not sure if this has been asked and answered but are you planning to add Kunark and Velious? anytime in the near future?
Cool, glad you figured it out! I have enough bugs on my hands I might add some kunark and velious content, but that's a long ways away. I want to spend time polishing the content that's already in place, add accounts, add items to hell difficulty, etc.
one thing im noticing is im not seeing stats change on weapons when ya upgrade themi upgraded one weapon 4 times and stats were un changed
There should be a message in the tooltip that says +4% Physical damage, something like that. It doesn't change the weapon's base damage.
Just checked this game out, what a great idea man!
Gave it a spin and had fun. good work man, cant wait to see where you go with this.
is there anyway to re arange the skills or are they hard locked in?
Hold left click and drag them.
This is exactly what I needed to entertain myself for an hour or two a few nights a week. Pretty cool, thanks
Up to 37 on my little troll sk. It's pretty fun, but some classes seem like a lot more work than others (specifically bards). I am hoping that the caster classes get better with +cast speed gear, because right now they do seem a bit boring compared to the melee and hybrid classes.
Anyways, here are some numbers I've put together for itemization:
4 Resist = 1% Spell Damage Reduction. i.e. 100 resist is 25% DR; max of 300 (75% DR).
1 Defense Skill = 3.5 Armor Class
1 Weapon Skill = 2 Attack
1 Strength Attribute = 1 Attack
1 Offense Skill = 2 Attack
If anyone can help confirm these, I would appreciate it.
Yes I think those are all accurate. 1 Dexterity = .5 Atk and .14 % crit too,
You can clickhold and drag around. At least I was able to move my pet summon spell on the precombat bars.
Addicting. lvl 52 monk. Any way to load characters on different computers? Can I play from work I guess is my question.

Itemization at at higher lvls is kinda meh or i just have bad luck. Been getting way too much caster uniques and Vox is so damn rough , had her to 1 bar and i was at 2 was whittling me down and my fear had just come off cooldown(SK btw) and she blasted me for 296 , now i cant even drop her 1 bar she just chain casts her nuke and demolishes me. Although im only lvl 48 , but i almost had her was thrilling hehe. Very fun game , thoroughly enjoying it.
Same thing happened to me. Had her at about 30% life the first try, since then she just chain cast wrecks me. Can't interrupt cause they're 90% instant casts.
So Maelfyn, any way you could have selos reduce stun chance? Or maybe just allow ogres to be bards? I think I can live with that.
I beat Vox at 55 with a paladin, was a tough fight for sure. I was using ghoulbane/steelclash and had my cold resist around 200. I'd suggest having your resists as high as possible as the boss spell casting is usually what gets me the most.
Bosses might be a bit tough, but this is balanced assuming that talents are already in the game, which they're not. So hopefully when talents go in, bosses on nightmare will be a bit more reasonable at level 50 for all classes.
Do you mean bosses on normal? Or are we going to be doing bosses in nightmare mode at lvl 50 with talents?
Killed all but CT/Inny for now. I can take them on pretty well until they decide to barrage the fuck out of me. CT does... flurry or enrage one of those, and Inny just cast fucks me. I was half tempted to spend a few hours refreshing in lguk until I got raster, but didn't want to look stupid if he wasn't in game.
So completing quests lines gives you permanent bonuses to your stats, nice!
Is there supposed to be some sort of penalty for wearing plate armor on a class that isn't supposed to wear it (ranger for example)?
Its supposed to reduce attack speed, cast time, skill haste I think. I've never checked if this happens though. Some armor does have the 'reduced weight' which I think makes it the next lighter armor type.
hate to keep askin questions but how do you add a last name on an existing char?
You are hearby known as Muggrog Cowcuddler.
Edit: Changed it to cowbell so that it would all fit (16 char limit).

Can anyone confirm that the SK's grasping frenzy actually gives a mana leech effect? I've been watching my mana bar for the past 2 days and the ability doesn't look to be budging my mana pool at all.
Playing a paladin. Rebuke says it makes you invincible for 1 second. It does for melee, but not for debuff/damage spells. Is this a bug or is the tooltip not describing the ability properly?
edit: Nice work by the way. My non gamer SO has actually been enjoying it too.
how do you deal with healers, I have nothing to interrupt and they heal from 30% back to full - crushbone 2 right now, cant do oracles :/
and "fire weakness, cold resistant" etc are just fluff? all my spells always deal the same damage, roughly 90% of what the tool tip says
What does light radius do?
Last edited by Quineloe; 04-05-2014 at 10:45 PM.
Tormented dead have supposedly weakness to fire, yet take less than what the tooltip says. Crushbone orcs have resistant to cold, yet take roughly the same damage from frost bolt in %.
I have to say, fireball casting pets are bs
If the healers are too much try befallen or blackburrow and come back when you have more tools at your disposal, like deep freeze and glacial spike.
Plans for kunark and or epic quests? Not much interest in grinding the planes for now, but I did enjoy progressing up to that point.
Well, I am 54 now, and here is my take on the shadow knight’s abilities. I tried to include any suggestions I could think of, and the general grievances I’ve had, especially while hacking away through the boss dungeons.
Nice overview. I think you have a good point about hybrids and cast times. Definitely like the Resist Cold idea. Btw, ever try going below 20% health and using gasping frenzy with the biggest 2H sword you can find? heh heh heh... even better if you can use the dark elf racial.
Still, it sounded like I was wailing forever before death claimed me.
Ah, you sound like you're ready for hardcore mode!!!!
Game started hanging up on me tonight when trying to travel to different zones. Just sits at the loading screen forever. Or seems like forever, sometimes it starts working after like 5-10 minutes.
But then it's buggy, no monsters or health bars visible. All damage shows up in the top left corner floating over nothing.
yea there is a bug with the latest update. All mobs are invisible with the damage just showing up in the left corner.
Hotfixed as of this morning.
No combat chaining pets as a Magician?

Just for fun, I decided to parse some of my kill times. All tests were done with a L48 bok ghoul (L3 lower guk), all of whom had a fire weakness tag. I was a L54 sk all throughout the tests, with no variance in gear or abilities used; I only used the melee skills (so cleave, frenzy, death strike, and slam), plus the dot being tested. Only the tests where I was not stunned were counted, and I was fully buffed for each one.
With only melee; no dots
With BB; a 77 - 79 fire dot
With DD; a 59 - 61 magic dot
With BB & DD
Well, I was wrong: using both dots could save me 5 seconds of kill time. Oddly, the fire dot didn't really help me, even though it was the more damaging dot (and against a fire weak mob no less). Yup, I think Quineloe was right: something's fucky with the resists.
Keep running into a bug where my spells just randomly stop doing all damage. I mean they do 0. I'm a Mage and suddenly I can lava bolt 20 times and do nothing, my pet still does damage, but my spells do none. It happened in the same zone (this last one was in Unrest) without anything changing, no level up, no item changes, etc. Only way to fix it is to relog, but when you're 75% thru a quest and relogging cancels your progress, that's not exactly a great option. Anyone else had this?
Also wow does conjuration have a huge bonus. Popped on a +4 Conjuration from a Shimmering Orb and my pet level jumped by 3. Problem is, those conjuration items seem to trigger the above bug and make your nukes do 0 damage, so you have to constantly swap them out. The bonus is fun tho, casters need it.
This is really good stuff though Maelfyn, thank you for working so hard on it, lots of good fun. Since you're here, another bug I discovered (or not implemented?) is upgrading certain weapons, particularly those that give you a choice between magical/physical. Did a bunch of tests with Stoutmail for example, got 1 of them to 5/10 Magical, and not a single stat upgrade anywhere and another to 4/10 Physical and nada. Also lost a Runed Cowl on a 1st upgrade which was odd and sad . Also wondering if perhaps Unique drops should be tinkered with, as my first 10 quests awarded the same 2 uniques 5 times each. Another thing I find a little silly is that as a Mage, when your alteration gets high enough, Renew Elements actually starts to suck because it's less versatile in the sense that it does way too much damage to your pet and is harder to juggle with Burnout. Otherwise I am loving the abilities and rotations, there is more skill and fun in these than most freaking MMO's.
I also think you should consider tinkering with the undercon mobs in normal (blue highlighted nameplates). It's one thing to randomly get a named, which is exciting and fun, but when you're trying to challenge yourself and do a nice chain and pull 3-5 mobs at once in a lower zone and you get a blue undercon as your 3rd mob or something and it fucks everything up, it's not that fun, just annoying. A named is a nice surprise because they drop loot, but for normal mode, the undercons just reduce my ability to have fun doing chains and AoE.
Also the gold penalty for dying seems a little insane considering you can't bank your gold and your death takes a set % of your gold. It makes you just want to blow your gold instead of having the fun and excitement of saving up to browse/instance hop merchants to find some cool stuff. 15% of your gold is too much for normal imo.

I think the 0 damage thing must be caused by a corrupted item from an upgrade attempt. I am having a pesky bug that refuses to go away. "Fixing tonight". I will smite all of these damn bugs if it's the last thing I do. Thanks for the good feedback. You make a lot of valid points.
At level 31 with max natural Conjuration but no bonuses to Conjuration via items your pet is level 26, but with +12 Conjuration it jumps up to a level 32 pet. Massive difference. So now I'm just going to spend 30 minutes hopping merchants trying to find Conjuration items to swap in for whenever I summon my pet. It's a fun bonus though.
@Bracelet of Woven Grass being Chain is cruel ><. Was a classic Int caster Bracer from Guk. It even has Int on it in NeverGrind, but is chain. Maybe mistake? The irony is I have a unique cloth bracelet with +10 wis (Gilded Jade Bracelet).
Oh and btw the ability to queue a 2nd spell would be… nothing short of… orgasmic. Even a third wouldn't be absurd given the nature of this game. Also, can you tell me how "+all skills" items work?
I've found all of the dungeons and their respective quests to be really enjoyable except for Lower Guk. Something is fucked with Lower Guk. Even with an Earth Pet, I get adds and adds and adds before I can ever finish any mob… it's like the only way to end a fight is to die or eventually run… it's worse than actual Lower Guk haha. Not sure what the deal is with that. No matter how much you kill, more come, it's like it's programmed to not let you end a fight? Died 5 times before I gave up, was a bit ridiculous. I am 2 levels above the mobs and yet I can't finish the first mob before 2-3 more come… every time?
Are Bladed Thulian Claws bugged? Won't go in any weapon slots. Sad, soooo good.

Good point about the bracelet of woven glass. I made an adjustment to it. Will affect future drops
Got my pet up to 5 levels higher than me atm, woot woot.
