My favorite teams are the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. The reason is I'm not a fagpussy.
I was wondering what everyone's favorite sports teams were, and why. I have noticed some of my coworkers have changed their favorite teams recently and starting thinking if this was a common thing. I only have two teams that I would call my favorite teams, yet I have a story for each.
My favorite college football team is Georgia and I have been a fan since 97. I was at a family union and my cousin was a student at UGA at the time. He gave me his old UGA hat while we watched Peyton's Tennessee team destroy the dawgs. Been disappointed ever since. I became a Manchester United fan in the summer of 2000. I went with my friends family to watch them play Celtic in Seattle. One of the best atmosphere I've ever seen.
So what's your story? Your hometown team? The team you watched win the super bowl when you were 6? You enjoyed watching an all time great play?
Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls. Don't care about anything else. Baseball is for fags.
Texans and Astros, and to a lesser extent, Aggies (my dad went to A&M).
Cheer for the your local team. I also happened to go to school in the same area. Bengals, Reds, Bearcats all the way. Since I moved to the Bay Area, I've also adopted the Warriors. People that switch their favorite teams aren't fans.
Living in Las Vegas I never had any hometown teams. I Became a Cowboys fan because I was a faggy bandwagoner as a child and a Lakers fan just because I would all their home games on TV.
Chicago native. So Bears, Bulls, Hawks, and Sox. I'm an University of Illinois grad, so I also love the Fighting Illini, although that has been more painful then anything else.
Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs My shame. Used to love the Bulls but basketball sucks now.
NFL - Chiefs
NCAA - basketball and football - Anyone playing against KU
Baseball - Gateway Grizzlies - Frontier League. (Edit: Home of Baseball's Best Burger - their words, not mine - a bacon cheeseburger with a Krispy Kreme donut bun.)
NBA - fuck 'em all
NHL - fuck 'em all
I'm a simple man, with simple tastes.

Raptors, Vikings, Cubs, and Hawkeyes.
I'm from Iowa...that explains 3 of them...I inherited those loyalties from my dad/grandpa.
So what's with the Raptors?
My dad wasn't a football guy and my grandpa was a baseball guy. Neither really cared about basketball. I could have been a Bulls fan, but I grew up during the Jordan era and I'm not the type of person to jump on a bandwagon. Rooting for the Timberwolves never crossed my mind. I was a Hornets fan for a few years, but that was mostly because of Bogues, so when the 1995 expansion teams were announced, I jumped on the one that had a dinosaur because I loved dinosaurs! Then Damon Stoudamire became my Bogues 2.0 and the Vince Carter era started a few years later. After nearly 20 years now, it's just as ingrained in me as the Cubs and Vikings. I've lived in California and Texas for the past 10 years and have never been tempted to switch allegiances to a local team.
It goes without saying that I hate sports generally.
I've been rooting for UCLA a bit in basketball and football since I moved out to CA. Don't give a shit about NBA or MLB.
NFL - Dolphins, because when I was a kid I thought the uniforms looked cool
NHL- Capitals, I'm from the D.C. area
College- Marshall and WVU
Pretty much everything is the D.C. area since thats where I spent a lot of my life moving around. I would have been a Ravens fan when they came out if it wasn't for them acting like some prison gang bullshit. Hi2U Ray Lewis. Of course that may still change if the Dolphins continue to do their best to be most fucked up football team since the Browns.
Yankees, Jazz, Supersonics, Steelers, Penguins, Real Salt Lake, Utes, Alex Smith.
The NFL is what I mainly follow, and I would consider the Eagles my favorite sports team, with the Steelers a close second. College, Penn State and Army, no matter the sport. NBA, MLB, NHL, I don't pay much attention to unless a Philly team starts making a postseason run. And, of course, I am a rabid Team USA supporter when the World Cup rolls around. I don't often watch soccer, but when I do, it is usually to see Team USA poop the bed on a world stage.
Not much of a story to it, I grew up in PA and have followed the local teams since I was old enough to understand what sports was. And, being former Army, it is just natural to support them, even if Navy has kicked our ass for the last 10+ years. Fricking Navy, bah, they are almost as bad as the twice-damned Ravens.
MLB: Red Sox Friends were all Yankee fans. Despised Reggie Jackson. Decent candy bar. though.
NFL: Dolphins. Steeler fan for years. High school buddy went on to play for the Fins, been a fan ever since.
NHL: Devils Local team.
NBA: 76ers Have not followed basketball since the days of Dr. J, and the round mound of rebound.

MLB:Giants, NFL:Bears, the rest of the sports I cannot get into for whatever reason. Reason for picking those teams is that my favorite animal is a bear and the two local NFL teams fans are complete dogshit so I chose the bears to root for when I was little. Giants because I was taken to a bunch of games when I was little and was most likely brainwashed into being a fan during that time.
NFL: Colts, then Broncos
NCAA: Louisville (Alma Mater; always under-appreciated and under-estimated; always proves everyone wrong)
NHL: I played hockey nearly all my life, but cannot stand watching it (much like golf)
NBA: FUCK YOU DAVID STERN
I am not originally from Seattle, but I spent the better part of my life there so I consider myself a local and thats why I like those teams
MLB: Fuck the Yankees
NFL: Da bears
NCAA: Florida Gators
NBA: Miami Heat
Liverpool FC (tons of LFC fans on rerolled it seems), Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, Celtics and New England teams mostly.
For College I love URI basketball and to a lesser extent UCONN.
NBA: Bulls (Was a huge Jordan fan, gave up on the Bullets when they abandoned their name for the failure that is their current name)
NFL: Skins (Ravens didn't exist when I became a football fan)
MLB: Orioles (Nationals didn't exist when I became a baseball fan, don't really watch baseball anymore either way)
NCAA: Maryland (undergrad and MBA), to a lesser extent UConn (law school)
Unless you're a Ravens fan, being a Maryland/DC area sports fan has been painful for just about as long as I can remember
Cardinals, Rams, and Nadal of course. I like basketball but I can't get into it without a home team. Although I guess SLU is good at times. Football is my favorite sport but being a Cardinals fan is 100x better than being a Rams fan.
MLB: Astros & Rays (was a fan of the rays before the astros were blackmailed into going to the al)
NCAA: University of Houston
This topic makes me realize I don't really have a favorite sport team. I am a fan of some players, of some coaches, so if they move around so does my support. National teams are a bit different: some great runs or valiant efforts in the past ensure my support. I'll always cheer for the South Korean soccer team or the Argentinian rugby team.
I confess I have player and teams I root against though!
LSU Football and LSU baseball (yes college baseball)
Used to be an Astros fan but now that they are in the AL I will likely never watch or attend another game.
NFL: Patriots, cowboys, dolphins (in that order)
College: LSU football
NHL: We will sometimes watch playoff hockey and IF the Bruins are in I'd root for them. Otherwise I favor the underdogs.
MLB: Don't care
Anything else: Don't care
Lakers/Dodgers =I was Born in Los Angeles. SO i took to them at a very young age. Hell as far back as i can remember
Chiefs, because well i used to be a Rams fan and when they were leaving L.A i switched over to the Chiefs. Wasnt a great choice, but hey I loved me some Derrick Thomas.
Dont care for Hockey or NCAA sports. I used to watch Nascar alot, but not much anymore. Just once in a while.
Baseball: White Sox
College: Northern Illinois, Univ of Illinois
PSN: Araxen, Xbox Live: Araxen II, WiiU: Araxen, Steam: Araxen
NFL - Cowboys, A friend back in middle school had the Cowboys cheerleader poster the first year they came out and they became my team...
NHL - Capitals
MLB - Orioles
PL - West Ham
NFL - COLTS
NBA - TIMBERWOLVES
NHL - SHARKS
MLB - MARINERS
NCAA - BOISE
liked the color blue when i was a toddler and just stayed with those
College sports are by far my top interest
University of Missouri all the way(went to school there) and anything kansas can rot in hell
But for pro sports:
MLB: Royals and Padres(Loved Tony Gwinn back in the day)
NFL:Chiefs and Dolphins (not as much now, but Dan Marino was my favorite player ever as a kid/teen)
NBA:none now, I hate the current nba but I used to love the 1990s Heat with Alonzo Mourning and Harold "baby Jordan" Minor
NHL: none, but used to always play as Washington on Genesis NHL because Al Iafrete was the goddamn man and had the hardest shot in the game
NFL - Redskins (my two older brothers are Cowboys and Eagles fans)
NHL - Bruins. (Started out a Kings fan when I first got into watching hockey in the mid 90's switched to Boston when I moved there)
Minnesota Professional Teams
Iowa State College Teams
Self explanatory. Went to ISU. Live in Minneapolis.
Prior to moving to the midwest I lived in Fresno, CA. As a grade school kid I followed the Lakers because everyone did. My favorite NBA player ever, to this day is still Eddie Jones, but things shifted once I moved away. During that same time period, Trent Dilfer was at Fresno State. Long story short he and his family are pseudo acquaintances with mine. I followed his Bucs, Ravens and Seahawks teams with little team allegiance outside of that.
I could see myself leaving Minnesota and developing some sort of fake appreciation for the local teams in the area simply because it's pretty easy to adopt teams you see more than others, but I'll stick with the misery of being a MN sports team as my primary for good.
NBA: Any team that has LeBron James on it.
NCAA: USC football / Mizzou football/basketball
PGA: Tiger Woods!
Grew up in Missouri, spent my 20s in California. The Falcons thing started because of Deon Sanders though I stuck with them (with less interest) until the Vick years and now it's kind of just ingrained so I root for them regardless.
Ugh, all of my teams are pretty shit, especially the football teams - only team worth a damn is the team I watch the least (SA Rugby)
Okie State, Cowboys, Mavs, Arsenal, Springboks.
All Washington, D.C. teams except that Nationals. I grew up with the Orioles and I look down upon all the mother fuckers who jumped ship to the Nats. Just like I do on those who jumped ship to the Ravens after their success (unless you were a Baltimore Colts fan. You get a pass).
Quebec Nordiques , still waiting THE RETURN
Yankees, then whoever happens to be playing against the Red Sox that day. Dolphins and Spurs for their respective sports also.
NFL: Dolphins - Huge Marino fan growing up
Don't really follow the other major leagues, growing up outside Chicago I got to see Jordan play a lot kind of hard to top that.
Currently playing HotS and Overwatch
and Notre Dame
NFL-Cowboys, anywhere Payton Manning plays
College - Baylor
Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, Revolution
NBA: SuperSonics if they ever come back
NHL: Don't follow but would adopt a Seattle team if they ever get one.
Parents grew up in the Bay Area but moved to the PNW when I was 3. They were only NFL/MLB fans and raised me to like the Niners/Giants. I Adopted the Sonics when we'd get free tickets all the time but haven't watched any basketball since they left town. I don't really follow any college sports.
Joe Morgan and Bench are both in the HoF!
Broncos, Avalanche, Rockies, and Nuggets. In that order.
Got to see the first ever games/seasons of the Avs and Rockies. Went to McNichols arena and watched the Avs win on their big screen, during that crazy long overtime game.
I sat on my computer for two straight days hitting refresh trying to get tickets to the World Series during that crazy cluster fuck with their servers. Managed to get tickets for the whole family to the first ever World Series game in Colorado. That one didn't end quite as well, but still proud that my anti social computer habits finally paid off.
When the baseball strike happened in the 90s, a local news team went to the game and asked kids what a strike in baseball meant. I was the only one to know they were asking about the negotiations. Next day, when my mailman came by, he came up to the door and told my parents he saw me on tv! Still haven't seen it myself.
Whoever is playing against the Cowboys/Penguins/Eagles/Flyers/Giants/Rangers
Mavericks >>>>> Cowboys > Rangers = Stars
FFXIV: Xanthala Kurenai - Excalibur
NNID: Man0warr, FC: 3480-2650-2736
NFL - Oakland Raiders and anybody playing against the Patriots, Pittsburgh and Kansas City.
College - South Carolina Gamecocks,, anybody playing Clemson.
MLB - Old Braves fan of the good ol' days (David Justice, Bobby Cox, and etc.) Rooting for the Royals though this year.
NFL - Seahawks and anyone playing against the Steelers(fuck them in the god damn ear)
MLB - Mariners
There are other sports?
NHL: Red Wings. I went to tons of their AHL team's (Adirondack Red Wings) games as a kid due to an uncle having season tickets during the 80's. Got to watch them win a Calder Cup one year.
NFL: Chargers. My mother is from San Diego and her brother sent me a Stan Humphries jersey for Christmas one year. They had a RB names Marion Butts and a LB named Seau. What 12 year old wouldn't root for guys with those names?
