Link to the Past is probably my favorite as well. Looking forward to picking this up on Friday along with the limited edition 3DS!
Anyone else looking forward to this? I know I side with A Link to the Past when it comes to the best zelda game (come at me OoT fanbois) so this game gets me excited, and the reviews its getting are pretty damn good.

Just as CV MoF goes to PS3 and I dont need to get a 3DS...nintendo does this.
I really wish they would have just made a remake, and then this title. When this first started coming out it was said to be a full remake with the painting element put in as a addon to the game- now it is a completely seperate game that is a direct sequle that is the standard "several generations" past the first...okay
Wish I could now get the zelda 3dsxl
for anyone curious here is list of 3ds games sorted by metacritic score, I have like $200 in bby GC i might use to buy one although our house has 3 old regular DS's that haven't been turned on in years, wish someone would do a regular DS trade in offer
New and Upcoming - Metacritic
also on black friday Target and someone else is doing a 3DS XL for $150, walmart is doing 3ds zelda XL for $200 this friday
It's a no brainer though, this and the new Pheonix Wright will be enough to ensure I finally buy a 3DS, although I've put it off for a very long time. Not even Pokemons accomplished that.
Saw this and was going to pick it up for the wife for Christmas. She hasn't touched her 3DS in months, but I never really bought any more games for it, and so this should get her back into it.
Can't fucking wait to get my Golden Zelda 3DS XL this Friday.
To be fair to those with dusty 3ds...the XL is like a million times better- the screen size helps the 3d "work" so much better.
I wish i had spare 200$ to pickup that bundle so sweet- its like zelda for free, as 200 is the normal XL price.
Gamestop always takes system trades and often does 10 or 15% bonus on system trade ins- I have a DSLight and DSi that need to take the form of a 3ds xl - i was hopeing the 2ds would be somewhere between the orig 3ds and XL in size, but its the same as the regular one :-(
Yeah, 2DS is actually the exact same screens as the 3DS in a new shell - it's mostly a way for them to use up their stockpile of 3DS screens.
I caved and ordered the 3ds bundle. It doesnt come with a cartridge...it's a download. Doesn't bother me, but I guess some people might not like that.

Walmart has it listed for 200$ for tomrrow and sunday - it is in their ad, but a certian ad that I did not get in print form- but its on their webpage under print ads. So I dont know how price matching goes... I would rather get it from Target to get another 5%. Target is usualy a bit anal about price matching sometimes so who knows.
I got this from best buy today morning for $200, price matched with wal mart ad no problem. also emailed customer service and they emailed a digital code for a bonus preorder code they were giving out for an older zelda game. Amazon also had a 60% off sale on 32gb sd cards, gonna give the whole thing with animal crossing to daughter for christmas but in the meantime play the shit out of zelda and maybe get mario.
they had at least 30 of these units in a big stack in the online pickup counter, had no problem getting one at 12pm.
good thing to fuck around with while waiting for TESO to login or while playing bf4
I wish my kid was old enough to play this. I don't see how I'd get $200 worth of entertainment out of one game, but I could totally buy the 3DS for him and snake it from his ass every now and then.
To be fair, there are an increasingly large number of good games for the 3ds...I think you could get $200 out of it pretty easily now.
Just need them to add Link to the Past to the eshop ffs.

Played a few hours. Love it. So far I consider it a worthy second place to lttp
Windwaker is still my favorite; that said the port to WiiU made me get the LE Zelda WiiU, and I finally upgraded to the XL with this Zelda bundle. Gorgeous, though I've been playing so much Zelda on my nvidia shield as is, I might be in overload mode.
This game is amazing as fuck. Played all night at the same time as GT did their stream of it.
So this game is fucking awesome. Play it with headphones because the music is AMAZING and the 3DS speakers don't do it justice. It also plays at 60 FPS, which I can't ever remember for a handheld game but it's smooth as butter.
There is some shit they really need to use in the new Zelda's from now on like the stamina meter and non-linear dungeons - supposedly the new Wii U Zelda is going to be more Skyrim-esque.
Yeah this is hands down the best Zelda in years. Its not even arguable. Holy shit the feels I get playing the LTTP setting. Zelda 1 was my first big game that made me realize how awesome games were, but the SNES Zelda was probably my most played and beaten title of all time, so this has just been a massive massive kick right in the feels.
Caved in and got the Zelda 3DS LX bundle. LOVING the game so far. Is there any other 3DS must have titles? I have always been intrigued by the Pokemon games, never tried one.
There's a ton of good 3ds games now. SMT4 and the pokemons, SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked, Mario 3d land, monster hunter, the new Ace Attorney (eshop only) Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, the Etrian Oddysey games (4 and the remake of 1 called Untold Millenium Girl) Rune Factory 4, Mario and Luigi Dream Team, Luigis Mansion Dark Moon, and Kid Icarus to name a few.
And Bravely Default comes out in Feburary. Looks way more like a final fantasy game than any of the lighting returns final fantasy 13 part 3 stuff. This is the best time to get a 3DS. My zelda 3DS bundle is still shipping, reading all this comments is killing me ugh.
this game is solid as fuck, gat dayum!
so is the 3DS XL bundle with it a hard-to-find commodity? kind of interested in looking this up...
guess ill go do that now then, should have plenty of time to play it with 24 hours of staff duty tomorrow =(
should be in stock at all best buys, go to bestbuy.com and you can see what stores near you have it, every single store within 150 miles of me had it in stock. its $200 at walmart too for this weekend, if you wanna save $20 but their inventory checker is bad
I'm having more fun with my new 3DS than my PS4. This game is awesome.
Is anyone else checking out the secret areas from ALTTP to see if they are in ALBW? Like when they said a grave in the graveyard led to sanctuary I knew exactly which one it was
Yeah a lot of the old caves are still there and shit.
Yes today is the last day for 200$ at walmart for the bundle- the ad is the "holiday prep" ad on their site- you may have to look through walmarts ad selector thing to find it.
I got mine from Target price matched (printed the ad page from walmart.com) and used redcard for 5% off- with tax 204$ It is for my wifes bday- I am also trying to get Zelda OOT 3d as thats get favorite zelda.
Figured I would take this out of the next gen thread, but anyone else having problems downloading this game? It is NOT the internet connection, as I can stream videos from the estore just fine on the 3ds. After about 6 hours though I am at about 25% of downloading this relatively small game
I'm honestly not sure. I was able to download it fairly quickly at midnight on launch night. What class of memory card did you get? I think it can only download as fast as it can write to your memory card.
Yea I got mine in like 40 min at launch from the estore too. Sorry bro. Try pausing it and reseting the DS?
Fuck, this game is awesome. Only reason I stop now and then is because those fucking handhelds make my thumbs cramp up after a while. This one is ranking up there with LTTP and OOT for me.
As for the game download, I downloaded it on release day around 7pm EST without issue. Took about 30 min, if that, on the stock memory card.
Many props to you fuckers for convincing me to get 3DS and Zelda btw, 24 hour shift on a sunday and I don't even care. will be playing this and OOT

I guess it's a problem with uverse. It downloaded over night and I dot really plan on buying many digital games from the store so problem solved.
This game plays almost exactly like a link to the past, which is awesome. It's pretty hard going from the nice oled vita screen to the 3ds screen though
Well LTTP was my favorite game ever. This game is freaking awesome. So good. Been a long time since I sat and played 10-12 hours in one sitting. Fuck yes.
Hero mode is a decent challenge, you take much more damage. Unfortunately you have to beat the game to unlock it, which mitigates most of the difficulty.
several hours in after getting this yesterday. It's very hard to put this game down, Loving it with a passion. The item rental stuff is kind if an eyebrow raiser, but you do eventually get to buy them outright instead of find in a dungeon which is different(did they do this in a previous title or is this new? admittedly I haven't played some zelda titles due to lack of funds for the console it came on at the time).
Highly recommended if you own a 3DS, consider buying the system if you don't, I'd say its worth it if not for pokemon then definitely this title.
The renting items is a new thing. I thought it was kind of hokey at first, but there are so many cool new puzzles that it doesn't really deter from how good the game is. It's also come to bite me in my ass a couple of times when I got a little too gung-ho and died.
Pffft, I'm always rollin around, mad balling, out of control, full rental gear; boppin baddies.
makin' it hail on hoes with phat silver rupees. Savin bitches.
I'm getting bored roughly 3 sages into the dark world though. Its a fantastic game for sure but I guess the whole zelda style is getting stale to me lol
So much I love about this game.
Being able to own everything so much earlier gets rid of a lot of the tedium of back-tracking. It's Zelda, I know how to play, just let me play. Pick-and-chose what dungeon you feel like going to. The stamina meter I was skeptical about, but I've really liked how it worked out. The collecting side-quest is really well done too - having a rough idea of where to hunt down things helps a lot.
Also, not to mention, it's MISSING several of the annoyances that becomes staples since OoT - annoying gameflow-breaking puzzle-spoilering sidekick, hours until your first dungeon, more hours until the world is explorable, cutscene and dialogs out the wazoo. Skyward Sword was good, but I always felt it was overrated at the same time - I spent so much of my time being annoyed instead of being able to play.
Gah...OK, going to buy a 3DS and this. :|
Amazon.com: Nintendo 3DS XL Gold/Black - Limited Edition Bundle with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: Video Games

for some reason nintendo wouldn't sell amazon the gold bundles, maybe they hate them or something. Its still available at most best buys around the country, but will probably all be gone by christmas since its a limited edition SKU. 3ds XL will be $150 on black friday at target/amazon/etc though, and the bundle is nice but you get a digital version of the game instead of a cart, depends which you prefer I guess.
Amazon does not directly sell Nintendo products. They havnt for awhile. When the first 3ds price drop happened Amazon was upset since Nintendo announced the price drop awhile before it happened and allowed Walmart to start selling the 3DS cheaper first. After that they stopped getting Nintedo products directly from Nintendo.
Fuck the Ice Palace - damn floaty orb ice thingies hurt like hell.
Finished it 100% on Normal, amazing as fuck game. Quite possibly the best Zelda they've ever done.
Will save Hero Mode for another time, have so much stuff to go through now that I've got a 3DS + need to finish Killzone, Knack, and a bunch of PS3 games.
Really fun game so far. My only gripe is seeing that snake boss where I have to hit it's tail. How many times am I going to have that boss across Zelda games? Either way, reminded me of when I played the original NES version decades ago. With that said, the originality in some the dungeons and the puzzles there more than make up for it.
That worm boss I don't remember outside of A Link to the Past, and since this is a sequel it makes sense for it to show up again.
I also enjoy some throwback enemies here and there. It's not overbearing, and I think it's a fun fight. If all of them were throwbacks, it'd be different.
amazon is doing a lightning deal today (11/26) on 3ds xl at 2:10pm EST (11:10am PST), price isn't changed until then but it should be $150 i think. it will be the red/black and black/black versions
Amazon.com: Nintendo 3DS XL - Red/Black: Video Games
Item renting is great idea I thought I wouldn't like it but I did. Big time.
I just saved and bought all the items as soon as possible.
I saved 3000 Rupees for the 5th bottle first, now im gonna start buying the rest of the items lol
I did find it kind of funny that the Ice Ruins actually had a little balcony, right beside a door, that had 2 skulls at the end of it.
Left skull always had a red rupee, and the right skull could have a heart or 1-50 rupees every time as well.
I got bored of walking back and forth after like 5 minutes but i ended up getting like 1500+ rupees in a small amount of time
I haven't seen the bottle yet but I have three others and I only had to buy one I think.
I have all but the ice rod so far. Have been playing for like 30 minutes in bed each night.
Bottle locations for those that just want to get them out of the way lol:
I don't play when it comes to Zelda. YOU BETTER COME CORRECT IF YOU GONNA COME
Btw, Timeline-wise, LBW takes place a couple hundred years after LttP and after Link's Awakening, but before Zelda 1:
Zelda's timeline is a clusterfuck. "Hero is defeated" what kind of retarded 3rd outcome is that. They at least had some quasi-justification for the split between child timeline and adult timeline.
It's all just a stupid shoehorn that you are better off not trying to piece together.
I think of the "hero dies" timeline as seperate and completely removed from the rest of the "Skyward sword" originated timelines... I did not enjoy skyward sword's story...it was okay- but there still was "back story" to it- it really should not have had much/any...its the absolute begining!
Hope the new WiiU zelda is after Zelda 2- it still has the largest world of all the zeldas...technicaly speaking :-)
Also Link to the Past's Link was in the most games, LttP, Oracles and Links Awakinging

Yeah, I'm talking about Nintendo's awful "piecing together". It's just as non-sensical as fan speculation always was. The timeline on the far left is stupid and arbitrary.
Also the other split timelines work okay, but they really need to take out the Minish Cup/Four Swords shit from them.
yeah to me the mythos and feel of the 'hero defeated' timeline fit together and are a bit darker and high fantasyish... The others have their own separate feel... But f it all..I can't wait to get into this game.
The time line is bullshit, trying to legitimize it now is just silly
Link to the Past -> Oracle of Ages/Seasons -> Link's Awakening -> A Link Between Worlds - > Zelda 1 -> Zelda 2.
The Middle timeline is also solid: Skyward Sword -> Ocarina or Time -> Majora's Mask -> Twilight Princess.
Then you have for the Right one: Wind Waker -> Phantom Hourglass -> Spirit Tracks.
The only thing really bullshitty is that Nintendo just should have called them their own worlds or universes, etc. Each of the three have a clear style that fits together.
Oh, and Minish Cap -> Four Swords -> Four Swords 2 is pretty much its own line too.
Well aside from the fact that the left timeline is also the only one that actually can make some sense(even though I think LTTP should be after original Zelda). Even the adult/child era split doesn't jibe.
So the "Child" era timeline is the one you achieve at the end of Zelda by going back in time after you defeat Ganon and Ganon is somehow defeated there because you defeated him in the future? And the Adult timeline is one where you didn't show up in the Adult era because you went back in time after defeating Ganon so now Ganon is free to rule the world? What!?
You are right about the clear progression present in each of the individual timelines that you edited into your post, it's trying to shoehorn OOT into the mix and create a "split" that doesn't make sense. All because of that stupid OOT ending.

I pay zero attention to Zelda's shitty story.
I really liked the end scene with Link putting the Master Sword back in the pedestal - I guess that's why it's always for the next hero.
Great game - might be my new favorite Zelda, Windwaker is bumped to #2.
Last night I was stuck in the Dark Palace for 2.5 hours because i couldn't find why 1 beam of light wasn't reaching the boss' door to access the boss.
Then i realized I should check the 2nd room of the dungeon to make sure i didn't miss anything there.
One. Fucking. Square. of. bombable. flooring.
I kinda wish they would have deviated a little more from link to the past. I like being able to explore new worlds, but Hyrule was almost exactly the same and the dark worlds were nearly the same. Gotta go back and get the two pieces of heart that I havent found yet, along with like 40 of the little squid things.
Be glad it wasn't just a straight up remake like it originally was going to be until Miyamoto stepped in.
too lazy to look for a 3ds thread, kingdom hearts 3ds is 50% off on squares site and amazon just matched it a few minutes ago
Amazon.com: Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance: nintendo 3ds;: Video Games
dont know shit about the game but bought it since i loved the ps2 KH
if you live on west coast target is selling the zelda 3ds xl bundles (retail $220) for $150 tonight, target stores open at 8pm. up in the air if your target has any in stock, no way to check online. some people are also grabbing the luigi and mario bundles which aren't supposed to go on sale until dec 2nd.
since its a limited edition sku you could try holding on and selling in a few months, but i have a feeling its not going to be as in demand as the pikachu or animal crossing versions
Last edited by spronk; 11-29-2013 at 02:43 AM.
Nice, Target ad just shows 3ds xl as 150- didnt know they where includeing whatever bundles they had as that :-P nicceee if u can snag one at that! I got mine during the 200$ walmart deal
just got the 3rd pendant- great zelda thus far!
Random bump- lots of 3dsXL cyber monday deals, the mario xl bundel is like 180 at I think walmart, there are also 200$ bundels that come with 1 or 2 other cheap 3DS games or whatnot- one comes with the new paper mario sticker game... good time to grab one if your looking at this zelda, and or 3ds OOT (I hear its very good with redone visuals etc)
Re: Zelda Timeline - my wife was like "wtf are these zoras where are my nekked chicks" - got me thinking of the timelines etc- the defeated timeline really needs to be just by itself, it also could use a nice origin story that does not suck like skyward sword... all the zoras in the defeated timelines are the more-fish like ones, while all the others they are the more people like style.
Beat this last night. Really great game. I enjoyed it start to finish. I'm still missing 4 heart pieces, but after an hour of that shitty baseball game, I resigned myself to just beat the game and call it a day.
Yeah i didn't bother collecting the last 30 creatures/4 hearts just because it was insanely unnecessary. The game is already stupidly easy, even moreso when you get the blue mail, even more so when you get the red mail.
Perhaps i'll try hero mode later on but I can still see that being really easy as well lol
Maybe hero mode with no upgrades, that would be baller.
hero mode with no extra hearts or upgrades, maximum baller.
Yea normal mode is pretty ez mode. Maybe because I beat LTTP so many times as a kid. But I haven't died a single time, with like 40 mai's and less than 10 heart pieces and 1 picture left to go.
Yeah, it's very difficult to die if you're paying attention.
Finished it over the weekend myself. Got everything upgraded (even the lamp and net), all the seashells, all the bottles, max rupees, and 2 out of 3 monster parts maxed too, heh. Missing 3 heart pieces - the baseball game, Lorule rupee rush, and the racing game (which I never tried). I knew I wouldn't get the piece from baseball, so didn't really care. Awesome game. My favorite Zelda since LTTP. I loved all the changes, and I hope that the painting gimmick makes it's way into another Zelda game some day.
The racing game is pretty trivial. You can cheat by going through the crack into the other world, warp to Skull Woods, go to where the Miner's house is, use the crack there, go outside, walk behind house. My time first try was 58 seconds. Wasn't sure it'd work, had tried the overworld route 2-3 times and was getting tired of missing it by a couple of seconds.
Only needed to play baseball 10 times. I thought it was going to suck, but I figured out a strat. All the way back on the stick = outfield. All the way in = infield. No pressure = middle. The key is getting 3 in a row and then hitting the crow. To hit the crow no movement on the stick, and the ball will home in on it if you get it close enough. To get three in a row I'd hit it randomly on the infield/midfield, if I had a streak of 2 going, I'd go outfield because I could reliably hit those with a little practice. The benefit of doing it that way is if you run low on pots, odds of hitting the crabs goes up. Hit crabs, new pots, more chances for a streak. Way better than some of the RNG heart pieces I've had to deal with in the hand held Zeldas. And really that was the most difficult one. Lorule Rupee Rush was easy with the Sand Rod.
Was so disappointed with Skyward Sword, this re-invigorated my love for Zelda games.
