Pre-season AP Poll came out today. Coaches poll has been out for a week or so.

Lol Mizzou. It must suck to have to switch conferences to have a chance to win it.
KU/OSU should be really tight this season in the Big 12. Looking forward to seeing Wiggins and Smart go at it. Maybe the 2 best players in the country.
Cannot say I am very happy with Louisville being No. 3 after winning the championship and having one of the best records overall. Still scratching my head over Mich. St. being No. 2 over us also.
Going to laugh when Kentucky's Elite recruit squad ends up being incredibly mediocre.
I'm weirdly excited for some college ball this year.
Tournament winner = automatic NCAA bid = conference champ
Regular season champ means fuck all. It does absolutely zilch, especially when multiple teams can tie for it and all claim it. That's why the Big 12 has been in existence for like 15 years but lists 21 champions. kansas even outright lost to the teams they tied for 1st with multiple times, yet still claims a regular season championship in order to keep their super important streak alive. Worthless.

Unfortunately, those 2 horrid head coaches during the 2000s meant we missed out on some epic in-state talent that wanted no part of playing for those 2 jerkoffs.
Ben Mclemore (7th pick in NBA draft)
Otto Porter(3rd pick in the NBA draft)
Bradley Beal(3rd pick in the NBA draft)
All came from Missouri in the last 2-3 years, Mike Anderson did a shit job of recruiting them. In fact, Otto Porter wanted to come to Mizzou, he grew up an MU fan and his parents went to MU, but Mike Anderson wouldn't even talk to him. Snyder screwed the pooch too a decade ago. Tyler Hansborough grew up a Mizzou fan, parents went here, blah blah blah but Quin Snyder was a coke-addled trainwreck, so he got the hell out of here.

Of course all that being said, Haith just lost out on Devin Booker this week, 4-star point guard who committed to Kentucky for 2014. He's only the son of the greatest PG in Mizzou history, Melvin Booker, who led us to our undefeated Big 8 1994 season.
Oh well, Kentucky is going to get whoever they want pretty much. Bad thing is, Kentucky probably ends up with a handful of guys even higher ranked than Booker, he may not ever play much there, and he could have been a day 1 starter at Mizzou.
This is a spreadsheet that someone(insane) made showing what would happen to an NCAA title "belt" like boxing or wrestling that passed from 1 team to another when they lost. Where would it end? Who would have it right now.
The starting point was arbitrarily chosen as the end of UCLA's record 88-game winning streak, and moves on from there.
Mizzou had the belt for 2 days in 1995. We took it from Indiana in the NCAA tournament and then immediately lost it in our next game to UCLA and goddamned Tyus Edney.
NCAA Basketball Title Belt Spreadsheet : CollegeBasketball
Iowa State had one title fight but lost =(
The belt spent surprisingly little time in the Big 8/Big 12 :/
Once you realize how much that spreadsheet is affected by scheduling, it's really just an exercise in mental masturbation. It's cute, but all it really means is who regularly schedules the best competition. Surprise, guess who's #1 by a huge margin? Furthermore, your conference affiliation is the biggest part of that because I know Syracuse's nonconference schedule is soft, yet they ended up 6th.
Speaking of best competition, Duke vs kansas next week to start the season in Chicago. Any predictions? I think Duke wins fairly handily. kansas is going to take a while to gel with the amount of young players and lack of returning experience. They will be a vastly different team at the end of the year than they are now. The Parker vs Wiggins matchup should be interesting though.
People around this neck of the woods are already flipping their shit over Wiggins because he only scored 10 pts in some meaningless exhibition last night against the little sister of the blind, or whoever they played.
Yeah, the Wiggins hype train is off the charts. I even get it, he is a completely legit prospect. Moreso than Harrison Barnes was without question.
I almost* feel bad for the kid, anything short of averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game and people are going to be disappointed.
(*except I can't fee bad for any dirty beakers)
Wiggins is going to be really damn good I think. They're still going to lose to Duke.
Wiggins needs to sort out his fucking hair. I don't want to racially profile anybody, but dude looks like a straight crack-head.
They totally fucking ruined college basketball with the rule changes. 70 fouls per game sure is fun to watch!
Flipping through some of the games, the refs really need to call this somewhat consistently. Some games it seemed like not much had changed, and others it was a foul if there was any contact at all, regardless of what type of contact or who initiated it.
The thing with the fouls is, it's not a new rule, it's just the refs enforcing the same rules that have always been in force, they just stopped calling fouls for some reason over the last decade or two.
I don't think it will take too long for teams to adjust. If nothing else, it should lead to better flowing, high-scoring basketball once teams figure out what they can and can't do on defense.
I watched Mizzou tonight, we only got called for 14 total fouls, no single person had more than 3. Didn't seem much different than usual, but we also don't run a high pressure, pressing defense anymore like we did a few years back.
Enforcement of the rules is really no different than a change to the rules themselves with respect to the effect on the game. And if they want a faster paced higher scoring game, shorten the shot clock for fucks sake, much easier solution.
As much as I like to pile on Calipari for being a shady mofo in recruiting and how he runs a program, he does seem like a good human being off the court. Great story here.
Calipari's Wildcats, Kentucky fans unite behind paralyzed fan - CBSSports.com
tl;dr Fan gets paralyzed falling down the stairs in Rupp arena, Calipari is all over it on a personal level
The Butler game is being called exactly like last year. The game before it (seton hall) was fucking stupid, like 80 fouls and half of them were for just looking like you might play defense.
I get the impression that Cal is pretty honest with his players too. I hate hearing stories about coaches lying to their players about draft stock.
Some good ones tomorrow night. Michigan State/Kentucky and Duke/Kansas. Should be awesome.
Lets go Michigan State and Duke!
CT's only pro-sport is finally here! Let's go UConn, let's go!
Enjoy your program's slow decline in the CUSA 2.0.
Cincinnati and UConn gonna run this shit for life.
MSU/UK has been really good so far. Looking forward to seeing Wiggins next.
New hand che k rules especially in the post are dumb. Ticky tack fouls all over the placed. I can't stand the NBA .. if they are trying to make cbb more like it then I guess I'll just have to stop watching.
Wiggins is going to be quality, but I thought Parker was mostly excellent tonight. Best player on the court imo. Great set of games, and all 4 teams could be FF bound.
Nice to see Adidas sponsoring high school signing day announcements. No, that isn't shady at all...
Pic from the announcement setup for Cliff Alexander, top 5 prospect for 2014. Any bet on if he goes to an Adidas school or not?(Supposedly has a kansas lean, just like Wiggins/Adidas)
ku gets another giant douchebag
Way to piss off your entire home state(kids from Chicago) by pretending to pick up the Illinois hat first.
Marcus Smart is annihilating the planet on ESPN right now if anyone is interested. On pace for about 65.
SMART! This is fucking fantastic, get in line freshmen.
Memphis raped. This has been extraordinarily enjoyable.
Looking at the results for today's top 25 games made me think it's March already.
And lol at Georgetown game getting 61 fouls. Hoyas gonna hoya.
My wildcats with the come from behind win over Drexel! Geez they must've been over looking them!
Cats strike again. Glad they beat Duke. I fucking HATE Duke!
And they won with Jabari Parker getting a bunch of NBA superstar bullshit calls. It was pretty impressive, they simply looked to be a better team than Duke.
It'll be interesting to see if Wiggins draft stock can hold up. He's been mediocre to good so far, and Bill Self's system at kansas doesn't really lend itself to 1 guy scoring a ton of points or playing 35 minutes a game. His stats won't be near as gaudy as Smart or Jabari Parki when the season ends. Self and kansas have a history of not getting the most out of top 1-and-done talent. Josh Selby was the #1 recruit in the country according to Rivals, he was roughly the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench for kansas as a Freshman, got drafted in the 2nd round and is now playing in China or something. Not so good.
Played like crap last night - Memphis was playing like it was an NCAA tourney game. Good for them, they were raped last week. Smart puking his guts out mid game probably didn't help, but he was off yesterday. I really wanted KU/OSU to be undefeated when we meet up next month, but c'est la vie.
Gordon used to go to the gym I go to and I played against him a couple times so I'm especially interested to see how he does. I think if he tries to make the jump after this season he'd probably be a mostly garbage type player (boards, D, putbacks, dunks, etc.) that at best could aspire to be a Shawn Marion or something, at worst maybe a Tyrus Thomas / Aminu who doesn't have a definitive game as a tweener and has trouble catching on with any particular team. Not the worst thing, but if he really wants to get an identity to his game I think he should play at least a couple years of college ball, the more the better. It's tough for those young athletic guys (who don't already have an amazing skillset such as Durant or Carmelo had) to develop skills and a niche in the league when they make that quick jump. I don't think he'll be big enough for a while to play a lot of minutes at PF and probably doesn't have the skills yet that you want to see at SF.
Another Kentucky loss... All is right in the world. Now they need to lose to UNC as their fans were talking major shit when Louisville lost to UNC.
Can't wait until the the 28th, Louisville will indeed be the stronger, better, big brother over Kentucky.
KU suckin as well. Colorado just nailed an unreal 3 to win it - great ending there. So far this season, Wiggins hasn't looked really comfortable/confident to me. I'm sure it'll come, but his body language is just flat out weird. Glad Baylor was able to get the B12 a decent win last night.
Couple big games tonight
(13) Kansas at (19) Florida
and Boise State at (11) Kentucky might actually be a good game. Boise is good, they're getting votes in all the polls, just haven't quite cracked into the top 25 yet. Boise has the #1 offense so far this year, scoring 92 points per game, they've topped 100 3 times already and 110 TWICE. That's nuts, 110 points is like 3 games for a Big 10 basketball team...
ISU off to their best start in a decade. Gotta love what Hoiberg is doing down there. Really hope we beat Iowa this week. If we pull that off I think we'll be ranked high enough that even with the better Big 12 teams beating up on us this year we could still pull a spot in the polls when all is said and done.
I always had a soft spot for Iowa State when we were still in the Big 8/12, always rooted for them besides when we played them. Loved some of those Iowa State teams from the 90s with Hoiberg, Loren Meyer, Julius Meekalik(sp? such a goofy mofo), Marcus Fizer, etc. Iowa St was always scrappy as hell. I really hope you guys or Okie Lite can keep kansas from another conference title this year.
I'm jealous of you guys in conferences worth a shit. I hate college sports sometimes. No matter how irrelevant Cincinnati may become, I can't stop watching.
I'm just going to start treating the Crosstown Shootout like it's the championship game.
UK, get shit on! Love the whining from Calipari about his technical. When you step over the line and cuss at/to a ref, you get what you deserve.
Fucking whining cheater...
Arizona showed some grit today! They got tested. Good to see them finally pull out some close games. In the past they would have folded. They are kinda scrappy this year. I think Sean Miller recruits tougher big men then Lute Olson ever did.
This might be a slightly unfair matchup
@oregonMBB UC Irvine's Mamadou Ndiaye (7' 6") battles Oregon's Johnathan Loyd (5' 8") in the paint. #GoDucks
Good to see Cincinnati beat a Pittsburgh team. Barn burner of a game with both teams tied at 20 at halftime. Hopefully these young players can start gelling before we get to conference play. AAC powerhouse, baby.
B12 is pretty strong at the top this season - Baylor/ISU/Texas aren't going to be easy outs. Actually a little surprised with how well Texas has played at times this year - beating UNC in Chapel Hill and losing a close (relatively) game to MSU is impressive.
ISU will have trouble matching up against teams with size. That always ends up the case for us though. Hopefully we can out gun a couple of them though. I agree though pretty strong conference this year with both Baylor and ISU surprising a bit.
Fucking annoying Pittsburgh radio announcers. Play Sweet Caroline over the radio and just continue to TALK OVER THE SONG as it's playing, since it's a time honored Pittsburgh tradition I guess. I called in to the station and told them to shut the fuck up, they hung up on me .

Tomorrow... Cardmaggedon! Louisville VS UK, with a Louisville win of course. Time to see who owns this state again!
Can't forget the Louisville/Miami game. Hopefully we open up our transition to the ACC on a positive note.
Big win for Cincy today. This team might be better than I thought. Their defense is for real. Shut Memphis down in the second half.

Fuck, that Sparty, Ohio State game was awesome. Glad Sparty didn't end up blowing it.
Damnit, if OSU would've just made that last shot in regulation.
You just described every basketball game that went into overtime. Ever.
I was pretty irritated that we took our foot off the gas in the second half, but Izzo explained it in the post game when he mentioned everybody was completely gassed with Payne being limited, Valentine's foul trouble, and Trice not playing.
I hear Dakich was choking on Craft cock all night. Confirm/deny? I'm pretty sure I hate Craft more than anybody else in sports right now.
He was, but Craft deserves it. Kid is awesome.
Sure, he's awesome. Now ask him how Keith Appling's ass tastes.
Appling will get his in Columbus.
Aside from gambling in March, why the fuck does anyone even care about College BB anymore? The sport is ruined, you never see a real dynasty team or anything in regards to continuity. Just a waste of time to even give a shit when anybody good doesn't want to be there in the first place.
It's definitely a problem, Brando, but there's still some continuity. Syracuse is maybe an elite school now but they haven't had a revolving door of talent. Dion Waiters and MCW are the only people of note that left early. Everyone else either had no talent or was just being stupid(especially so for Fab Melo), so no harm done there. Fan wise, still better than the pros for me.
Oh, and can someone explain why Aaron Craft gets all the press he does? His A/T hovers just slightly above 2 and the rest of his stats are just plain. Steals being slightly above average. For a senior PG, he's barely made any progression.
He's the best PG in the nation, by far. He's one of those almost wholly intangible players where his contribution doesn't show on the stat sheets. You gotta watch the games to see it.
Best PG in the nation should have the stats to back that up. At least explain how his contribution doesn't show up on the stat sheet.
He's not an NBA pick. I wouldn't want him on an NBA roster. But for college, I'd pick him as my first player this year. He makes big plays at key moments and has been the glue/leader of his teams. He's not a scorer, but one of those players that the other team absolutely hates because of his bball IQ.
tl;didn't watch version is he's the best on-ball defender I've ever seen play the college game.
Man ISU just killed Baylor. Kansas at home next Monday is going to be a great game.
idk, I'll admit I haven't watched him play besides the Syracuse - OSU game a couple years ago. I feel he gets the white boy hype similar to gmac. A great defender, sure, but I'd still be frustrated as a fan to see him putting up the same stats as a freshman. Syracuse's front court has done basically the same thing(no progression) and it's really annoying. I have a feeling we're going to get gosu UNC on Saturday and their bigs are going to have their way around the basket.
Nobody actually thinks Craft is the best PG in the nation. The reason Craft gets a tongue bath every broadcast is because of a play he made down the stretch in the game last night. Giant scrum for the ball, bunch of rebounds, Gary Harris ends up with the ball on the floor and tries to pass out of it, Craft gets his hands on the ball, is on the ground just like Harris was, and instead of trying to pass out of it, calls timeout. Kid just has 'it' in spades. If he could mix in some basketball talent somewhere, he might actually make it.
I know Izzo's blood pressure will decrease when Craft is gone. Don't think I have ever seen a coach get so riled up over an opponent. Fun to watch the coaches, especially Izzo complain about Craft.
It's an older article, but here's the best way to sum him up:
5 Reasons Aaron Craft Is the Nation's Top Point GuardHe is basically an extension of Matta on the floor who uses his high basketball IQ to set up his teammates and pick his scoring spots.

3. Fuck no
4. Get tortured by Appling all night.
5. Uh, sure? Whatever the fuck that means.
Artest played 2 years for St. Johns.
This season is absolutely nuts so far, seems like there is a major upset(or 2 or 3) every single night.
#3 Wisconsin falls to unranked Indiana and #13 Kentucky falls to unranked Arkansas last night
Although, having a top 10 with no sign of kansas, Duke, Kentucky, or North Carolina is kinda refreshing for a change.
ISU dropping that Oklahoma game was pretty rough especially right before Kansas. Last year KU beating us on that bullshit banked 3 pointer by McLemore really upset me. This game we just beat ourselves. Just hit a couple of the many, many 3s we bricked and its a different game. The upsetting thing is it was at home, because I don't expect Kansas to play that sloppy later in the year in Lawrence.
