Why should I care? I NEVER knew ANYTHING about shadowbane. Educate me.
Shadowbane Emulator - View topic - Shadowbane Emulator Public Preview - October 12th!
There's a link to download it on the main forums from a certain place (hint: yarrr)
Great rejoicing if it launches for real after this public preview.
Why should I care? I NEVER knew ANYTHING about shadowbane. Educate me.
Will it come complete with nonstop sb.exe crash to desktop errors? Only then would it be a real emulation.
Word is on their forums they are going to carry that mantle of resolving SB.exe errors. We'll hafta see this coming week how issues like that and possible spell stuttering are going.
The character builds and customization in my opinion are unparalleled in any game including Path of Exile.
Build cities, form alliances. Destroy cities, destroy alliances.
I have very high hopes this project succeeds.
I want to play a game like this again, but click to move is too damn gay.
Shadowbane was great, loved small scale pvp but the problem with it is that it encourages people to ally everyone they can to defend their cities, killing the point of smaller groups.
oh shadowbane. my first job in the biz. lesson learned. 'Temper your anger and believe no one.'
I was a thief just went around stealing shit from everyone. I was the scum of the planet.
I had almost forgotten the centaur race has its own type of "pants".
What the hell, how come I don't remember some of the races/classes on that wiki? It's been a long ass time since I played but I don't remember Nephilim or Vampire races, and I don't remember Doomsayer or Nightstalker classes.
Shit got addd with expansion. Yes, SB had an expansion.
I loved SB. I was in a super strong guild on my server but I don't remember the name. That era is a total blur.
Must of been some god weed! :P
It said on the wiki the thief could only steal from mobiles. Did they make it so you couldn't steal from PCs?
Not in a browser, no thanks

I remember when I played you could steal from PCs.
Never played it when it was Live but might give this a shot as there is nothing else to play
Huntress 4 lyfe
This is a game I always wanted to play... but every time I tried, it ran like shit and crashed constantly. I know plenty of people who swear Shadowbane is the epitome of MMO PVP.
I had a half-elf blademaster (ranger based). I put lots of points into the running/sprint skills (they stacked), so I could get the fuck outta dodge if the fight went south lol. It worked pretty well...only centaur rangers could catch me.
Only open for a week, though? Unless they ultra boost XP gains and make building cities EZ mode, I'm not sure what can be accomplished in a week besides camping the NPC spots of the world (since the rest is barren because it was intended to be where the cities went).
I think we are jumping into and joining the existing closed beta world. So there should be player cities on the map if they haven't recently put each other to the torch.
Shadowbane was awesome until you logged in one afternoon to a burning, crumbling city with your guild mates being raped all around you.
That's what happened to me. My little guild decided not to go along with the resident zerg (LOD?) and instead grouped into an alliance with several other smaller guilds to try and compete. We managed to avoid notice for a while. But then I came home one day and got all comfortable at my pc, logged in ready to go kill some mobs for upkeep gold, and saw a burning city when I entered the game. It was terrible!

My guild's city was pretty far away, on the main forest continent. We have a pretty sweet position that gave us control of a couple good runes, although I can't remember what they were exactly. We used to spend our days patrolling our area and killing people trying to get the runes.
Lol, I was at that seige as well. I think literally the entire server was sieging their city. It was like .00001 frames per second.
Covenant of Swords / PRX #1
This game was amazing back in the day, filled the void that UO left when it went to shit.
A SB emu a decade later tho? Doubtful.
I am stoked to try this if for no other reason than the memories it will bring back. I LOVED this MMO back in the day -- it was ultimately the reason I left Everquest. The sb.exe errors coupled with constant crashes during sieges though just got to be too much though.
I might give this a look. I really enjoyed SB. I'd like to play a healer this time around. Are all healer classes pretty effective? I wonder if there were specific classes that were total shit like in some games.
I used to be an elf blade weaver. My guy looked totally phat
Back in the day I downloaded the free trial. Within 10 minutes got an SB.exe crash, then logged back in and fell under the world. Uninstalled.
Well it was a free trial. Collision detection with the ground came with the monthly charge.

Shadowbane had the best "design" of any video game I've played in the last 10 years. Too bad the actual implementation was crap.
I think I spent as much time trying to work out ideal character builds as I did actually playing the game. I'd love to see Shadowbane as re-imagined by Blizzard.
Unfortunately it is completely unplayable right now. Tried leveling in a 10-20 zone and ran through the entire area without seeing a single mob or person. Went back to the middle of the zone and sat for a few minutes and things started to load around me... not the mobs that were attacking me though, still couldn't see those.
Lots of crashes, crazy lag. Definitely a preview before beta.
I was in DHL (Dead head Legion I believe?) for awhile during my days of playing. They pretty much owned the server with the biggest main city and the sub-cities.
had always wanted to try out the game ... tried the beta for a bit: nostalgia i don't think would even hold up the ui and graphics. as much as i like making armchairchartemplates, i don't like having to look up all the hidden forumlas despite enjoying it (and testing/finding it) in other games; maybe there is some middleground between this and eqn.
cheers to the emu team. the opening was far better than some commercial online games...
Lvl 16 now, having a grand old time
Lots of people couldn't see mobs, buildings... anything but themselves and terrain.
Then they notified us of a reboot and everything worked perfectly.
There are tons of people, easily over 500 running around right now and its not all Chinese but... they're there.
I didn't have one SB.exe error or spell that appeared to start casting and never finish like on live.
Lots of the templates are lost to time but I have a few saved and most of their links work via the wayback machine.
I'd never played a vampire before, so seeing those running around was interesting. Most people didn't know to train their racial drain line at the necro trainer like me.
Highest right now is a confessor that I've been running around with a pal's Nightstalker. We ganked 2 people of about the same level, shit was classic.
Last night we finalized what I think will be our core group and are rolling the centaur holy bomb lineup. I got "stuck" with the druid.
These updates right here:
Have turned this fucker into a beast of a server now. In my 6 hour or so seshes after work during the preview, I've received only 2 SB.exe errors and they were during the previous "lag" spells. It wasn't lag related to bandwidth or "the Chinese", it was 530k NPCs existing in cache when there should have only been about 5k (steady, higher and lower fairly rapidly) at a time.5528 2013-10-16 20:00:00 -0700 (Wed, 16 Oct 2013) Rich: Mob memory leak cleanup.

You should revisit it there Lindz.
do homeland asians dislike seeing ascii chars similar to how i dislike seeing asian alpha chars in mmos?
it's more a dislike of functionality -- all the characters aren't on the keyboard. (also the need for ime/builtin or external)
stick to ascii keys imo for naming convention or at least /t <unique_ascii_charactername> <utf8_msg>
(note: i don't know how it works in this game. just making a commentary in general)
I have no fucking clue how to play this game.
I gave up on this. way too laggy.
It was extended for another week, I haven't had a single lag problem in the last many days.
Also, they will not accept donations... you know legality and all that (which some ignore).
I suggested a pizza button and they asked me which part of no I didn't understand. :P

Is there any information on how to learn this game in 2013?
