Such good shit...imo... Will pickup a 3DS XL for Mirror of Fate... my playstation is ready...
And is it me or did Mirror of Fate get pushed back 4 months randomly?!
Obviously one of my day 1 purchases in 2013. Don't think im looking forward to anything else as much as this. Well maybe Tales of Xilia, but that's pretty much it.

The first one was such a badass game, this is awesome.
Wow, the game looks great. I never checked out the first one, guess i'll have to grab that before this and play it out.
Going to have to for sure replay it on the PC thats x2 good news in one thread. If you enjoy tough games this is for sure one to try out, its on Ninja Gaiden Sigma tough levels.
Yeah, a lot of people bashed the first game but the gameplay was solid and it had an absolutely fabulous world, atmosphere, and music.
I am really looking forward to this one. I should also play the 3DS prequel sometime.
I don't get the bashing of the first game, it was solid- the voice acting was insanely good- but that could just be Patrick Stewart.
I have two complaints of Lords of Shadow 1- the first is that the first 1/3ish of the game is put together perfectly you feel you are on this lonely desperate quest AS Gabriel and the interludes, books, chapter intros etc are all perfect...then the style takes a turn to the traditional of the genera and your just going along...
The DLC should have been fleshed out more or nonexistent- and the final battle was very hard when by that point you just want to see the story of getting from the end of LoS to the Epilogue... plusSpoiler:
spoilered for those who have not played the first...and you should- its a great game
I finished playing through LoS 1 two days ago, bought it cheap a few weeks ago. Gorgeous game, loved the scenery of every level. I really enjoyed the game play, they obviously stole mechanics from God of War & Shadow of the Colossus but they stole them with care.
so this game looks good because the non-gameplay trailer looked neat?
Our resident retard in with his brilliant analysis.
Joking aside LoS 1 was phenomenal and without a doubt had one of the best story ever laid on an action/adventure game. The story alone is more than enough reason to play it. There is no doubt in my mind that the 2nd will build upon it and have yet another fantastic musical score to go along with it.
Just beat the first one and the epilogue got me pumped about the second one. I really hope the stick with the modern times story line.
Just finished LOS and definitely liked it despite it's minor flaws. The puzzles were a bit out there but whatever. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and story and can't wait for part two.
Two new trailers debuted at gamescon. Story trailer is the best one of course...
did he say "Victor Belmont" or "Richter Belmont" ?
Sounds like Victor to me.
The first one is solid. Not GOTY material, but it's a good game. The difficulty level is perfect. It's not punishingly difficult, but you have to be on it to progress.
Yeah sorry was referring to the first game. Played the demo, and instantly fell in love with it. Castlevania + God of War with a good story is right up my alley. I made the purchase and am waiting for it to download. I was reading some reviews on metacritic. Whoever said the game had horrible graphics is retarded. This is one of the prettiest games I have played recently as far as I am concerned. The music is top notch and voice acting was fantastic. (From the demo at any rate)
Looking forward to playing this tonight.
Yeah the art direction is gorgeous. The textures are a bit low res and the poly counts are kinda low since it is a console game but the art style makes up for it. Some of the puzzles are a big wtf though lol. The titan boss fights were pretty lame at least for me,. I preferred the regular boss fights. The titan bosses were just a bunch dumb QTE events tied together. I did appreciate the fact that they did not telegraph everything you had to do but sometimes you were left standing in the dark and have to go search on what to do next.
best game ever? not by a long shot... but the atmosphere alone is worth the $20 or whatever it's selling for now. it's funny because i didn't initially remember the difficulty when i reviewed it a few days back in one of the other threads, but good lord. that game was unforgiving at times. you'd be plunking right along dodge rolling and whipping to victory then some dude would come along and roflstomp you for an hour straight. i don't remember the boss or anything, but it was like... some giant armored dude and i have a permanent bald spot from pulling my hair out. very few games hve actually made me cheer when i killed someone.
So, I never played Mirror of Fate. But, from what it looks like, it brings in pretty much every storyline of Castlevania. Gabriel the original Dracula, Trevor is defeated and risen as Alucard then sets off to finish his mission in killing his father.
Ugh. I just don't want to buy a whole new system just to play one game. :<
Yeah, honestly Lords of Shadow is probably top five this generation in terms of art direction and cohesiveness. When you first come upon the fort in the mountain pass I had chills. The biggest problem with the game is that it just takes so darned long to really get moving
Kaige#1128 - Battle.net
Kaige - Steam
which is brilliant really... my kid has a 3ds and there is no way you'll find me caught dead on that thing. i'm not going to the store to buy myself a 3ds game... if i wanted a handheld game i'd play it on my phone. but releasing it on the ps3 and 360 will be a week one buy for me.
Got the demo with Mirror of Fate on PSN - it is a long demo- I like the system they replaced the light and dark magic with- it fits in. I have a feeling you are going to be playing through generations like Mirror of Fate - I hope the game is longer than the first, it should almost be two games with all the different timeframes it looks like you will be in.
The demo is sprinkled with quotes from past CV games, it made me smile I hope that kind of thing goes through the entire game. The visuals are insane, cleaned up from LoS but keeping the same feel... demo was only running 720p but never a drop in fps or anything throughout. The only thing visually in LoS that bothered me was the (no pun) shadows- the jagged wiggly shadows where so off putting- in the first opening screen of the demo its in-game models and real time- and the shadows are perfect- then on the next part where the 'real' demo starts its back to the jaggies- I hope they fix all the shadows for final release.
I also think they are kind of short sighted to make this the final chapter in the trilogy- I know Murcery Steam basically used this project to put themselves on the map and do not want to get bogged down in it- but they have done such a great job its a shame and we will keep wanting more.
On a side note, I tried the PSN demo of Mirror of Fate (so the HD port of the 3DS game) and I found it to be shockingly craptacular in just about every aspect. I was surprised to see it at around 70% on metacritics.
EDIT: Oh there is a topic dedicated to it... nm...
So I've been playing the first on since I got in on Steam sale, and HOLY SHIT! This game is everything a game like this should be. The combat is like darksiders/GoW, but I feel its more fluid and tactical. Combat decisions should not be made lightly. So far I've found a few different combos that suit each need, but I wouldn't say it's ultimately varied. I did just start though and could be wrong. Some combos seem like nub traps (chain saw one), while others are absolutely god like (the hold[STRATK]STRATK....) seems the go to on bosses, unless they hit with a ground slam then you do that attack in the air. The light side, shadow side powers are fucking awesome and bring another decision element into the battles. Do I go light side for more defense, or dark side for more offense. Luckily you don't share resources for those.
The level design is beautiful and pretty top notch. So far in chapter 4 I'd give level design a 8/10, with backdrops a 10/10. I kind of wish for a more metroid like open world, ala darksiders. But there are downsides to that with backtracking. However, with the 100% and weapon upgrades your already backtracking as it is. Maybe it's better they did it the way they did with level selections and trials/collectibles ect; or else back tracking would have become way to tedious.
The story is pretty good so far. Nothing outstanding, but enough to keep you interested. 7 or 6.5 out of 10, but I'm not even 1/3rd through the game so that is a very inaccurate number. Nice little tid bits of lore through out the story that are well done. Bestiary entries and so forth. I like those things but IMO games need to gravitate to more of how Dark Souls gives lore. Very subtley. But it works for this game.
The platforming is done well and there are lots of off camera secret areas to explore in the levels. The camera is done kind of halfway isometric which works well for the game. However camera can fuck you as it always does in those types of settings.
The only complaint I have about this game is I feel cheated on some of my deaths. The hit boxes don't connect yet I will die. I never felt like that in Dark Souls. But oh well.
Overall I would highly reccomend to purchase this game while on sale.
Yep, surprised how many people didnt get into it - but those are mostly the old school nintendo hipsters who still want 2D platformers and the thought of their beloved series turning into God of War makes their anus bleed.
Funny, I've had the exact opposite reaction so far. The platforming is all entirely on rails and is basically mash A to advance, there are invisible walls fucking everywhere and navigating the terrain is a huge guessing game as it what is real and what is backdrop, the camera is atrocious and will straight up fucking kill you because you can't see enemies, etc etc. The game is pretty enough, but all the cutscenes were rendered on consoles apparently so you get a nice super jarring transition back to 480p and 30fps every time it shows one. Holy shit the titan fights, those were so bad I almost had to quit right then and there, but thankfully there are only 2 of them apparently. Mash X a bunch and a pile of QTE is not a boss fight motherfuckers.
The general combat at least feels pretty good and has so far made the game playable and the bosses seem to be improving now that the shitfest titans are done, so it at least has that. But dear god whoever fucking thought up the idea of locked camera views and hiding items and rooms off screen can die in a fucking cancer fire.
What did they do in the port? on ps3 everything was nice and HD even the cutscenes.
The first half (although on the map its the first 2/3) of the game to me has a very differnt feel than the latter half- the first really draws you in as the character and the story of him and going about the journy- I never had an issue with the camera etc... the fighting is fine- there are some hard parts and easy parts- none of the whip combat ever gets close to the LoI level of stuff- LoI was the best 3d whip combat imo- LoS is following it... MoF actually seems so far that the combos are more needed than even in LoS1 - but in that its a 2.5d game with the insane screen clearning range of the 3d LoS whip lol.
The last half of the game its a push push push forward charge and the plot is good, has some silly parts imo and i would have gone a different way- it seems like they change directions not just with the gameplay but the story as well...at the same point... but this may have been when this game was "made" into CV- as it was not a Castlevania at first it was just Lords of Shadow.
LoS 2 I think the camera is free and the rails are less/gone- the demo was great and looks just like 1- visually awesome
You're right about the latter half of the game and how the story changes. There are too many "gotcha" moments. The story isn't what kept me in this game though. Being a badass did that.
Lot of good info on the upcoming title
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Shows Its Dark Side - IGN
The demo is out for this already, even PC via steam. Downloading it right now.
and the demo is decently long and full of win... I bet many people are spooging over those gears in the back of that scene "CLOCK TOWER MEDUSA HEADS YAY" etc.
I hope the plot handels the premis well, he is still fighting satan, and I foresee his self redemption when he realises that he was and has been doing the work of God he set out to do by defeating Satan (again) while thinking not- I mean at the end of LoS1 gabe is just thouroughly pissed off at God and Satan with just as much passion...well maybe a wee bit more for Satan...it is satan after all :-P
Riding horse and fighting things on either side of you not so ez on a first attempt.
Then again, I was using a keyboard like a dummy at the time. Got a controller for Dark Souls, probably way more doable.

Waiting for Shadow Bane Emu to finish
Just played a bit of the demo for this last night. Reminds me I really need to finish the first one. I finally have a gaming weekend coming up - so I will have some time.
The demo is fun.
From what I have read, and seen... Lords of Shadow 1 and the DS game are mere prolouges to what is LoS2 lol
Still finishing up the DS game, the HD ps3 version- its a fun romp and very much Drac X like in how it navigates etc.
You can post that in the American Pussification thread. I hate shit like this.
So Cox decided that it was enough edgyness to show you kill the father infront of the mom and kid, then suck the moms blood dry and said "okay I think thats enough just fade out on him killing the kid" turns into "DRAC RAPED THE KID"?! what?! who thought...what? oh my peoples dumb
Nice recap, I need to replay LoS the begining has so much story but is so fast compared to the last half. I didn't catch that the ascended spirit of the Lord's of shadow died. So that means zobek still has a ascended form in heaven.
I finally finished LoS last night. Personally I liked the ending. I immediately loaded up the HD Mirror of Fate, and am about 3 hours in. I'm determined to finish it before LoS2.
I liked the ending, and I am loving mirror of fate even if I like metroivania more than a drac x style but I still am a sucker for all things castlevania.
I do not think so, it feels a little better than the Dacula X chronicals on the PSP, it's not as defined as LoS but I don't feel it is lagged, all 2.5d games can sometimes be 'soft' per say.
I hate to say it, but good. Get your God of War style gameplay and canon destroying story the fuck out of my Castlevania.
Was that a bad review? 8.3 is not that bad- but it does make me feel like it is not quite "as good" as LoS1 but better? I am not digging modern world- lots of people are but eh I like my castles to be castles.
LoS was not meant to replace the IGA canon- if you could call the "classic" castlevanias as having anything to do with canon... they are terriably disjointed- if you follow the plot etc. dracula is kind of done after SOtN after being informed of his wifes wishes etc by his son etc. etc. and if you look at the games after sotn he is russurected in all instances, not a natural 100year comeing back. Sans the 1999 game that we never really got true information about.
Crowing, play Mirror of Fate, its very Drac X like
I will pick up LoS2 once I finish MoF :-P its Castlevania I will play it.
8.3 is pretty good, it was a positive review.
jumped over to a CV forum, apparently it is getting murdered in a good batch of reviews plopping it in at 5 to 6 on a 10 scale, sometimes for objectively singular reasons.
I think there will be a PS4 XB1 1080 60fps port of the LoS trillogy announced by end year- they have LoS2 on PC at 1080 and 60fps... some complaints where of visuals but I can see why they didnt push this onto the ps4 etc as they didnt want to delay it more.
Only thing I am sad to see is some people say the ending is a bone... Mecury Steam has said they do not want to make more CV and this is the end...so what can you do to end draculas story? he dies... he is manipulated by zobek and or satan into something again and its left there? I will have to play and see it myself I suppose. You can clearly see in LoS the tone and mode change near the halfway point...it almost is like "This is where we made the deal to make LoS into CV:LoS" oh well if you didnt like CV LoS be happy this is the end? if you did, enjoy what you got!?
I do wonder what konami is planning to do with CV if this truely is it for mercury steam and los
I finished mof last night at 100% on the hardest available setting and enjoyed almost every minute of it. I also enjoyed most of LoS and even some of the story. I'm looking forward to playing this.
I gave up on this game being good when I saw it was only 4.1GB.
I enjoyed the demo a bit, will be a pick up for me at some point.
The size discrepancy is the difference between prerendered cutscenes in LoS1 and in game cutscenes in LoS2. If you took out all of the movie files, LoS1 was about 6 gigs as well.
Xadion, I disagree. Disjointed, sure. There is however a very easy to follow timeline and cast of characters from CV1 all the way through Order of Ecclesia. I understand fully that this is supposed to be a reboot (albeit a 3 game reboot), but turning Ralphy B. (Trevor) into Alucard is a god damn tragic shit show.
Aside from the story issues, Mercury Steam completely misses the mark on other iconic Castlevania features. Namely the fucking Castle of all things, as well as the music (I could go on for days about how fucked the soundtracks are).
I am a Castlevania purist. I very distinctly remember my parents taking my 5 year old self to the store to pick out a new game and being enthralled by the CV1 cover and choosing it over everything else. I was hooked. To this day I still pick up Castlevania shit whenever I can and in fact tracked down a Vampire Killer Arcade machine I am considering picking up. That said, these games are NOT Castlevania, they are reskinned mediocre at best God of War clones with vampires thrown in for fun.

I could go on and on about CV lore, and are we counting Sonia? There are canon recon and inferred retconning in much of the stuff IGA has done.
My taste in game play is not the standard in CV fans, I loved CV2 and what story you can dig out from it. I do not care for the 'stage' based CV games, even if you have paths etc. For me they get usually one play through, the world exploration ones usually get more play time out of me. I loved LoI and felt the story was a good foundation, LOS has a more compelling Dacula birth and source of fight for the Belmont family to me. Order of Eccelcia was a great game and story to me, you could tell it was the Dacula from sotn more so than what you got out if whatever the bloodlines sequel was. To me I have some really convoluted but perfect to me theory on Dacula is not always 'dracula' on certain reaaurections/games that, for lack of a better term he is soulless or without personality and just a despot vampire vs the Lord of darkness.
You're right, it's probably a good thing that this shitty game is only half the size it should be.
So did anyone get this and care to share their thoughts?

So I went and uhm downloaded this to check it out. The game is alright. Not sure if the direction they took with the corporations and modern day type setting was really the right way to go. I really miss the lush outdoor settings of the first one. I also don't think the stealth elements really lend themselves to Castlevania. They force it on you and it becomes a nuisance that hampers your game play. You know sometimes I just want to kill some demons with my whip and shit. The writing and voice acting will make you cringe at times too.
The game looks good but from what I played the first one had waaay better art direction. I have a feeling they lost a large chunk of their original team to another project or company. Oh yeah the game is about 6.5 GB uncompressed on my PC which is what the original LOS was so there is that for those worrying about the size of the game *shrug*.
Worth a download or just wait it out for the next Steam sale.
Not to mention you only fight 5-10 different monsters the entire game. Even though I bagged on it a page back, I simply cannot pass a CV up, so I purchased it. Beat the game in about 12 hours and just about every minute of it was forgettable. The one redeeming quality of the game is the fact that you do spend a good deal of time in the actual castle, which was a nice change from the first game. At the end of the day though, I still stand by my saying this series is nothing but mediocre at best God of War clones.
Not sure what you guys are talking about. Its just what I expected and Im enjoying it greatly.
The game's actually pretty good. The stealth sections are just puzzles really. The game's definitely better than the low scores it was netting before release. One reviewer was stuck on the Argeus maze for several hours. I don't even understand how people who can't play games get paid to review them. Death looks better than ever also.
I think some of the QQ reviews are from non CV fans, and that is good and bad- I understand LoS was done to bring more people into the fanbase of castlevania and it worked but I think they where more fans of an action GoW type games than becoming actual CV fans- being the last of this trillogy I do not really think the fan base is going to be that much bigger going to whatever is next for CV- and the ones that follow over are most likely going not to like whatever the next step is.
Look at the entire history of CV and all the styles of gameplay it has used, not many franchises have had the oppourtunity to be experianced in so many ways.
I agree the game has been fun - only problem was that I had my saved file get corrupted and had to re-start from the beginning. Was about 50% through the fuckin game too!
The Atreus maze took me 10 minutes legit. I appreciated the challenge. But once I remembered most form it was so easy. That alone killed its review scores. I actually appreciated the change of pace.
Just beat it. All in all I loved it. If you didnt play the first should play both. Full story was good. Kind of shocked at the end though...Big let down and abrupt finish. Did not close the series as it was supposed to.
Loved the game though. Enjoyed the combat, story was great, graphics were great.
