high hopes for this. gotham is a fucked city.
Fox green-lights Batman prequal. Probably will focus on the early years of Commissioner Gordon, maybe drawing on 'Year One' for material.
D.C.'s answer to S.H.I.E.L.D it looks like.
high hopes for this. gotham is a fucked city.
I have my doubts about Gordon being a interesting enough lead character to carry a entire show. I'll still check it out, but it doesn't sound that interesting to me.
This super hero/comic book shit is about to crater hard.
show has a series order now, most of the main casting appears to be done except for Bruce
Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.) ... Detective James Gordon
Donal Logue (Grounded for Life, Sons Of Anarchy, Terriers) ... Detective Harvey Bullock
Sean Pertwee ... Alfred Pennyworth
interestingly couple of quotes say it is going to be the story of Bruce till he puts on the cape, others say it is going to follow Gordon.
.Warner Bros. TV has tapped “Touch” alum David Mazouz for the role of a pre-teen Bruce Wayne in “Gotham,” the studio’s Batman origins drama for Fox.
Mazouz will play boy who leans on his butler Alfred and Commissioner James Gordon for guidance after his wealthy parents are murdered. Bruce Wayne has traditionally been the alter ego of the Caped Crusader — but Mazouz will not at any point become Batman in the show, something Warner Bros. took pains to point that out in announcing the casting.
So, basically, another cop show. That's awesome, we definitely need more of those.
what the what???
so basically emo bruce wayne, awesome. may as well make him a sparkly vampire
Lets make super hero shows without super heroes. Because that's so compelling.
Next they'll have a Superman that just runs real fast.
the first season will be them going through In Vitro
Arrow is already a better Batman show than this will ever be.
I'm just still trying to figure out how this all is supposed to fit together. It's a show about Jim Gordon working his way up through the police force, but it's also about Bruce Wayne dealing with the death of his parents, while apparently also giving us the origin of several of Batman's foes. There are parts that sound like they'd make an interesting show, but then there are parts that also sound incredibly dull, while others I have no clue how they'll do without Batman. At this point, I'm unsure if they are trying to ensure they have plenty of content for storylines in the show or if the show just lacks focus.
After 3 recent great live action batman movies, 4 incredibly good batman games and a handful of stellar DC Universe movies centered around batman the last thing I care about is origin or pre-origin stories.
Just jump to him when he's in his prime and has already jailed the joker a few times.
they should make batman: groundhog day. old batman invents a time stargate to prevent his parents murder, but it leaves him trapped in a temporal loop where he keeps reliving his parents death. he keeps trying different things to stop them from dying but every episode ends up with them dying in new ways.
in the season finale, one of the crazy god like supervillains reveals he has been fucking with batman but he never broke. bruce wayne wakes up as a young boy the morning after the opera with all his memories intact and his parents still alive.
Well this should last for half a season.
At least they got a convincing looking actress to play young Selina Kyle
Camren Bicondova transforms into Catwoman on Gotham set | Mail Online
and if IMBD is anything to go by, they may have cast Batgirl (non Gordon) and Poison Ivy. I'm just speculating though.

I'm intrigued by this show actually, most of the casting is good and if they treat it more like the comic Gotham Central I think it will do fine.
I mean, it's just a cop show with some characters we already know, right? It's not just being made by Fox, but it's for Fox? So the budget should be nice. I dunno, I don't expect anything life-changing but there's no reason it can't be good. Curious to see how much effort they make to de-camp it. Is Two-Face going to be a mangled psycho? Or is he going to be a mobster with a scar?
What the fuck is this shit. It's like fucking Muppet Babies: Gotham. The only thing that could save this abortion of a show is if Oliver Queen shows up and shoots everyone.
saw the trailer on 24 tonight. looks fucking terrible
Looked fine to me, plus seems it got picked up for at least 13 episodes. Looks like Fox throwing some weight into the series order.
So Bruce is ~10-15 years younger than all the classic villains? The other GCPD comic series was an interesting take on a crime procedural set in Gotham City... I think this is more interesting to the overall public than such a show would be, but I'm not sure how well 'lite' versions of the various villains works in this context as opposed to aiming solely for the mobster angle.
It's not a bad idea really.
Batman is a legitimate movie star entity now, they can't afford the budget of a Batman tv show that wouldn't just be totally horrendous so them going earlier and making it a regular sort of detective show makes sense.
It all boils down to the writers and actors at the end of the day.
I look forward to this being a good show that they will air out of order and confuse people and then eventually cancel once concsensus is that it's enjoyable.
This looks bad...and forced.
It's on Fox and its creative people are coming from network TV, it's gonna be terribad.
Executive producer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist”) wrote the pilot, which was directed and executive-produced by Danny Cannon (the “CSI” franchise, “Nikita”). John Stephens (“Gossip Girl,” “The O.C.”) will also serve as executive producer on the series
Its officially been picked up for next year
Bruce - 13
Selina Kyle - 15
Ivy Pepper (? Poison Ivy) - 10?
Bette Kane (? Bat Girl- Hawkfire) - 26
Edward Nygma - 27
Oswald Cobblepot - unknown
Bette Kane is an interesting choice. I suppose they could use her to pull in a vigilante 'hero' while Bruce is still a kid if they want to go in that direction. They probably should have used Kate Kane, but then they'd have to go all-in since she's now very established as a lesbian. I would laugh my ass off if they made Batman following in the steps of his aunt who was Batwoman.
'Gotham' showrunner breaks silence, answers burning questions | Inside TV | EW.com
Guy writing this was the guy who did Rome, my favourite show, which is enough for me to give this a glance, even if it's airing on Fox.
They talk a lot about how this show is mostly about Gordon and the villains, which I suppose will be interesting, instead of Smallville: Gotham edition.
They also mention the violence/darkness of this show, but since it's on Fox and not HBO or even Starz, I question how far they'll really go. Gotham seems like a scary as shit place, it will be hard to do that on Fox imo.
I dunno, still not sold, but he said all the right things in that interview. Guess we'll see.
My favorite version of Gotham was in the Birds of Prey series. It was a city that was surrounded by desert.
All the architecture was gothic skyscrapers that rose up to the heavens.
It didn't make any sense at all,but it looked bad ass as fuck.It also allowed Batmans peanut gallery to jump around far above the city streets.
So... this just sounds like a fantastic idea that won't get old at all:
Basically, every episode in the first season will introduce a character that might be a future Joker, each emphasising aspects of the character’s iconography, a card sharp, a flower seller, a clown, or just a guy with a very big grin.
are they trying to make sure nobody watches this? they have already said that Joker will not be in this show so its pointless to tease something thats never going to happen. at least Arrow doesnt fuck you over like this.
Took a mediocre idea and driving it right down to horrible.
First season is going to be 16 episodes.
Heh you guys keep ragging on the show and I bet it outdoes Arrow ratings and they renew it for a full season two.
Besides with Fox buying WB, it's all going to be a moot point.
DC had a great comic back in the day called GCPD, was pretty much all just the police and villans, rarely Batman and it worked well. I have no problem giving Gotham a chance, if you want to write it off that's your loss.
i plan on giving it a chance, as i have posted, i am a big dc comics fan. batman is my favorite comic book hero. but i want to see batman. i will watch this, but i dont have very high expectations right now.
Fox does dumb shit, but would they be dumb enough to have paid whatever large amount of money just for the rights to say chester cobblepot in a by the numbers cop show?
last i checked there is no deal. that may have changed in the last 2 hours.
Loved the first episode, it set shit up perfectly. You dont need the main character of the comics for a comic book show to be good. My opinion might change, but i am satisfied with the product so far
Well that was pretty darn good. Like that they filled the show with a ton of traditional Gotham City elements. Lots of major villains appear plus even people like Montoya and Crispin Allen
Gordon is so pimp he turned a hot slice lesbian straight.
wb told fox to fuck off. was no deal
Great pilot. The kid playing bruce is pretty good for his age
Enjoyed it, but I really think they went overboard on introducing characters. I mean, for fucks sake, every single person Gordon runs into is a villain. They could have saved a few so it's fun when you run into a new pre-villain.
Damn, didn't know I wasn't allowed to share my opinion.
Guess you'd just prefer 20 posts all saying how awesome it was.
I agree with Elurin, sort of, we got catwoman, riddler and penguin. did i miss one? they went a little overboard, but at least they didnt linger on too many of them too long. was very well done for a pilot, i like who they picked for Alfred and for the split second she was on screen i liked who they picked for the chief, is that the chick from The Warriors? anyway, i like what i am seeing so far and it looks like the story will be moving along at a good clip like they are doing with Arrow. have i mentioned before that i am a DC fanboi?
Just watched this. Based on visuals, it looks like they want the characters to resemble the Tim Burton cast. Catgirl has a face that strongly resembles Michelle Pfeiffer at least, and the Penguin in that last shot looked like Danny Devito when he was going after that sammich.
The guy that plays the Penguin genuinely looks the part and can pull off creepy very well.
The whole thing has a Dick Tracy meets Blade Runner kind of vibe to it. It's kind of cool that the mob boss is looking for stability as that directly impacts his bottom line.
I was also pretty sure the comedian was The Joker, but I could be wrong there.
Every episode will apparently have a "Joker" in it for the first season showing off many possible origins/elements for the character. Also if they find an actor they particularly like for one of those bits then they could run with that one.
I figured the speech about keeping order was a nod to the fact that everything only gets worse when Batman pops up and starts taking out mob bosses, paving the way for the real crazies.
I'll admit that I thought this was going to suck. From the pilot at least, I was wrong. I liked almost all of the actors, I liked the tone/look of the show, and I enjoyed the plot (especially for a pilot). I'll definitely be adding this to my watch list unless something changes drastically.
And I liked Catgirl, but since we haven't really seen her speak or do much but typical street thief stuff, I'll keep my expectations in check.
Went in with fairly low expectations and they were exceeded. Will continue to watch.
Good first episode. I will continue to watch. I particularly liked that the street where Gordon and Harvey met to go get the wrong killer was 4th and GRUNDY!! Very clever.
The actors they got for Gordan and Harvey are actually pretty good. The fact they have Harvey at all makes me happy. Batman: TAS continues to be a gold mine for the franchise. I wish Paul Dini and Bruce Timm would make more cartoons. All their DC stuff was so very good, and got totally crapped on by WB.
The Riddler (Edward Nigma) was the police scientist doing ballistics.
Didn't plan on watching this, but enjoyed it a lot. Will definitely keep tuning in.
It was alright, but it definitely looked like a comic book TV show. The production values weren't as high as I hoped.
If the porn isn't high res you can't get horny, but you can hate a guy at 1000 paces without a scope. That's human nature.
Also assuming the stand up commedian guy was suppose to be Joker
As stated, they are going to do pretty much a Joker a week (or so, can't remember precisely) so that we never really know who ends up being the Joker. Or at least for the first season anyway, I'd imagine.
It plays into the whole "No one knows for sure" on the origin story of the Joker.
I liked the episode, will follow the show, but I just think all of the characters were introduced too conveniently.
Only thing I did not much care for was that they had so many characters in the first episode. Would have been nicer to spread it out. Not a big issue though. Good start.
I can almost guarantee that the Joker will end up being the last guy you expect to be the Joker, so it will basically be an entire season of red herrings and the "omfg wtf bbq" twist will be the Joker was another character you never expected all along.
As long as they come up with a better origin than a guy in a tux with a red bucket on his head.
Gotham turned out much better than Scorpion in my opinion.

Great show. It has earned a spot on the DVR.
I enjoyed it. Noticed two people from The Wire in it. The beat cop at the murder scene was the criminal lawyer, and Falcone was Rawls.
