I guess too many people broke the first rule of usenet.
I would be interested to hear what other options people have as well. IPTorrents will do me for now.
So I've been using NZBMatrix for all my Newsgroup activities for a long time now. It interfaces so nicely with SABNZBD and Sick Beard that I never thought of using anything else. Does anyone else have suggestions on index sites that are as easy to use and will be less prone to dying suddenly?
Also, the RIAA, MPAA, and all other copyright protection organizations that the US government allows to use mafia tactics to enforce their bullshit can get fucked so hard.

Damn this sucks. I've lost both of my Index sites in the last week. I'm also open to suggestions for replacements.
With everything getting shut down and IPT being one of the largest if not the largest private tracker im really starting to get worried

I really want to get onto a new indexer that supports Sick Beard and Couchpotato. Anyone set up there on Newsnab server?
Same here. Used torrents for years and years but started getting tired of the warning e-mails so switched to usenet for security about a year ago. Started with NZBMatrix and never looked back because it was so automated and easy. Now I have to learn how to do it manually which sucks. Hopefully a new automated indexer shows up soon.
Okay, seriously. Fuck this guy so hard. http://twitter.com/Morganelli
I hope he gets hit by a train. It is guys like him who piss me off because they act like stopping piracy is even possible and that he has a hand in it. He must be so proud to have stopped a little bit of piracy on a file transfer system that has been around since before the internet at large. What a hero.
I just use torrents myself and have never had a letter (probably my isp just being lazy as I just use eztv and kat.ph nowadays) but a friend was grumbling like buggery about nzbmatrix earlier today.
He said he is trying nzbfriends.com and nzbmovieseeker.com for now but is dreading having to go back to old school downloading headers usage if these don't work.
The other one shut down was nzbsrus I believe.
I feel like there has been a huge shift in what these anti-piracy assholes are focusing on. I feel like they figured out that P2P took way more man hours than just focusing on the indexing sites. Taking NZB Matrix down stopped thousands of downloads, and I bet not nearly as much man power as trying to stop the same in torrents.
Haven't looked extensively at all of the options, there are plenty of adequate alternatives, not sure if any of them have the community and download comments that I liked with Matrix, the scene always fills the void soon enough however.
What about Sick Beard's Index and Womble's Index? Aren't both of those indexing newsgroups? Haven't relied on either of them, but they're both integrated with SickBeard.
I have found a couple that seem like they will work. NZBClub seems good, but looks like it is getting hammered with new users since the Matrix closing. I also see a user indexed site called Filesharingtalk.com. Can't user Sick Beard or Couchpotato with it that I can see, but looks legit.
There's nothing stopping anyone from running their own Newznab indexer, it's not even hard if you have any linux knowledge at all. Nzb.su allowed registrations for a short while after nzbmatrix.com shut down, but looks like they're gone now.
I think this is a good thing for Usenet, public nzb sites bring too much visibility to DMCA takedown assholes like the one mentioned above. It's much better if people can't use Usenet unless they can get access to a private Newznab indexer or navigate the old school header downloading methods, because that way user bases will stay low enough that no one will make the effort to spam DMCA takedowns to Usenet providers.
I pushed Sickbeard's index on as a backup yesterday and it was happily grabbing Homeland this morning. Seems to still be working but no guarantees it will last forever,
Here is my genius idea: private FOH NewsNab server. Invite only and keep the numbers low enough that we don't have any issues. I'd do it if I had any experience at all building that stuff out in Linux.
Is it just an index? What are the bandwidth requirements? I could throw one up for the hell of it.
I'll look into it when I'm home from work. Depending on its RAM/HD needs, I could probably run one on my EC2 server.
(of course, there's nothing to stop Amazon from sending me a C&D and taking my shit down, so...)
Maybe you can cut down on the hardware requirements by only indexing TV Shows? (Not that movies wouldn't be cool also... but those are probably more likely to be a target for takedown notices.)
I'm messing with installing it now. We'll see how it goes.
I take it I'm going to need a newsgroup server somewhere for this... I don't have one. Anyone wanna lend me theirs for a sec?

Changed my mind and bought a subscription to astraweb, since it's fricking cheap and I'm not likely to actually download anything (just use it to get headers) anyway.
I'm messing with the indexing now. It doesn't seem like it's gonna use a great deal of disk space, but I haven't had any luck in getting it to actually list any releases, either.

Can't get it to index anything. So strange. I'll mess with it some more tomorrow, enough playing for today.
Anyone who sets up a private index and agrees to index audiobooks and movies binaries (dvd quality and better) I will happily contribute an automatic 5$/mo paypal for as long as it is up. (TV show binaries would also be awesome if possible but sickbeard internal might get all those)
I am assuming that 5$ would be enough...
I'll even contribute to multiple people. Never hurts to have a couple of backups.
Edit: Must be setup to work with couchpotato and sickbeard.

Signed up last night, but the huge influx it looks like the site is closing and going invite only as per their forum shoutbox I just read tonight.

I use nzbs.org but I notice they are down today. I hope they're not dead, too.
I'll use predb.me for now till shit shakes out. The idea of headers really hurts me inside.
I decided to try starting my own index site as well. Not actually that hard to set up. I'm populating the search right now. Next on the list is to see if it works well with Sickbeard and SABnzbd
Heh, I've derped something up and can't make it work. Might just be the server. It won't find any releases in any group I download headers for.
If people are finding alternatives, it's probably better not to bother putting up a new one anyway.
I use NZBS.org and Filesharingtalk...but for me the downloads are incomplete. I'm assuming stuff is being deleted off of the news server? I'm using Giganews.
I noticed recently that a lot of shows are being named something cryptically numeric, so prying eyes can't tell what exactly it is. Even still, shows are being removed from the server so that's rather disconcerting. Assholes.
Back in the late 90s I used to use IRC for quite a bit for these things..efnet and undernet specifically i believe, with xdcc, fservs etc. Is that still an option? or is that also getting cracked down on or not viable for large scale piracy?
Think there was also something called 'fsp' i used to use then too but I think that is long gone , even before anonftp dumps started to poof
Lol Fserves. Those were awesome! I remember them well, and the credits and stuff you would try and build up so you could get more stuff.
Be keen on the idea of a private indexer here if anyone has the know how, Like others only really interested in TV Shows and Audiobooks.
Hah, I vaguely remember going into IRC and trying to get the equivalent of an nzb. I don't even recall what the app was called... but I downloaded like 4 seasons of the West Wing at 25kb/sec. I actually bought the VHS set of the first West Wing season - they wouldn't ship it on DVD - and they didn't have the second season available. Incentivized me enough to find a way to download the show.
got NewzTown invites if anyone is interested , PM me your email.
Still got a few left for those who are interested...

If you are still looking for an indexing site, take a look at this forum:
New sites are being created by some of these guys. They appear to want to stay small/under the radar type so I wouldn't expect them to be as good as nzbmatrix was. Still, you should be able to find a basic indexer.
Does anyone have an invite to GingaDaddy? I've heard it's the closest thing to NZBMatrix out there.
Would really appreciate a hook up. I'm near giving up on newsgroups and just going back to torrents (ugh) if I can't find a suitable replacement for NZBMatrix.
Any suggestions on a newsgroup service? I use Giganews but a lot of shows are being blasted off within a few hours of posting. Shirley there has to be a server situated in some third world country where copyright laws are ignored.
I just checked out tweaknews.eu after running into the same issue Shaky. I was able to pull down the most recent ep of Fringe via Tweaknews just now, whereas Astraweb had it deleted from their servers within an hour or two of it originally airing (and all subsequent posts of it were deleted as well). I'm in their trial phase atm but seems like they might be a good backup solution if you're stuck with an Astraweb sub like I am.
I use newshosting.com with good results.
Hmm, I haven't had problems getting my shows through Astraweb. I have Sickbeard set to use the Sickbeard NZB tracker and that seems to work fine.
I'd recommend buying block data, rather than a subscription. That way, you can buy some amount from two or three different providers (just make sure they don't just resell the same service). You can mark two as backups and sabnzbd will only use them if a file is not available on the main service.
That said, I'd also be very appreciative of a GingaDaddy invite. The site looks like a good nzbmatrix replacement.
edit: Might be worth getting a block with tweaknews just to diversify across countries.

Soriak, the problem is primarily with movies but there are some issues with recent TV shows as well. Fringe is heavily monitored for one on Astraweb, and is removed almost immediately upon posting. DogNZB lists ~6 or so different versions of S05E11, and they're all removed from Astra's servers (posts range from 2 to 7 days ago). Not sure what else is affected as I've really only run into issues w/ Fringe, but I've heard of other shows being DCMA'd quickly and removed.
Hm. I don't download fringe so haven't had any issues. Castle, Justified, Archer, Modern Family, Daily Show and Colbert all downloaded fine from Astra this week. I use nzb.su for indexing and haven't had many problems. I'm interested in the idea of setting up my own indexer though.
I just noticed 2 Broke Girls got pulled from Astra, but not tweaknews. The latter just became my backup server.
Invite only. Anyone have one?
It was open not to long ago, I'll send out invites as I get them.
Good thread... been looking for an alternative since they got shut down.
Edit just hooked up my Sickbeard and CP to it. Seems to be working great. Make sure to disable or demote any other providers you have been using to get by if they are the crappy ones.

No. I did not donate and I have api access. Click on your name and go to profile it should be there.
Shows me as having registered in December 2012... did they copy over the existing NZB Matrix database? If so, awesome!
Just a heads up that DogNZB is going to be opening up an invite system in the next few weeks for existing users in good status (new registrations will still be closed). Current plan is to let new users roam free for a month and then ask them to donate a one time fee (something like $10 or $25 once). Their backlog support has been pretty good, hasn't been too much I haven't been able to find on there. Problem still lies with your Usenet provider though.
Any chance for an invite? Feels like I've been adrift at sea since matrix went down.
I have set up my own Newznab site and am populating it as we speak.
If you are interested in utilizing it let me know.
I also need to know what groups you usually utilize so I can add them if I haven't already.
I thought the whole point of TPB switching over to "magnet links" is so ISPs can't send warning letters / and can't tell the difference between legit and illegal downloads.
I have been using TPB and bitcommet with no issues so far. Maybe I am just lucky?
Suineg, how's it going with your personal Newsnab server? I also sent you a PM.
Sorry haven't been really active here lately. I'll ask for emails as I get more invites.
Started my own Newznab server and added 7 groups initally. Added another 24 and set the local update script running. Now the initial 7 are the only ones I can see from the web front end and I cant see anything added recently. Even though the update script reports churning through 31 groups. Anyone got any ideas?
Shit is getting DCMA'd quick. The Hobbit didn't last a day.
https://www.tweaknews.eu either as main or backup provider.
The 10mbit connection allows for 10 simultaneous connections. 8 if you're on the trial.
I have a 25megabit connection but I rarely get 5megabit with them. Makes downloading a 1080p movie a very long process.

With Newshosting.com I max out my connection with 10.
How fast are you downloading from them?
Also, do you have the port set to 563?
And so what? that means absolutely nothing. It all depends on how much each provider has a thread/connection capped at. If one is capped at 1Mb per thread and the other is 2Mb per thread, what you can do on one with 5 threads is the same as 10 threads on the other. Completely irrelevant. All that matters is what is the fastest speed that you can get. The numbers of threads means nothing, they don't cost a dam thing. Anyways, glad someone is trying out Newshosting.com. I don't know of anyone else. Been wondering how they are in terms of take downs and in incompletes. I got used to have backups with friends on other providers, but now we are all using tweaknews. Thankfully I have yet to encounter a single incomplete with them. With Newshosting.com I max out my connection with 10.
It is absolutely relevant if you are paying for it and you get less bandwidth than another provider.
If I pay $8 for 300 connections and they all connect at 10k or if I pay $8 for 30 connections at 100k or $8 for 3 connections at 1000k it shouldn't matter. You aren't paying for the connections you are paying for the overall.
Guess what 10 connections not maxing out your bandwidth but downloading something you can't download on your other faster server because it's deleted from there is infinitely faster. It isn't 0 which is what you get on your other server .... because they deleted the file .....
Stubborn Wolfen is stubborn and still stupid.
It's ok...we get it...you're fkn retarded. You weren't throwing out insults last night while you were sucking my dick.
I understand completely. What you said doesn't fucking matter when I'm not getting the speed I'm supposed to be getting with them.
