May have to skip to ensure my body is ready for the possible SoE progression servers 3.0 in May.
Lets assume this will launch around December during North American academic winter break. Is your body ready, again?
Edited 2 hour staff round table on the server. http://www.twitch.tv/sirkenp99/c/2852039
Thread regarding said round table. http://www.project1999.org/forums/sh...d.php?t=120710
Will edit to add new info.
where can i read up on possible new proggy server? Would pawn to do it again.
I'm shocked anyone is eagerly anticipating a new progression server from Sony after how horribly the first two failed. There's just too much that they aren't willing to remove to make it feel classic, even when supposedly only classic content is available.
Any solid info on this supposed progression server?
Jesus almost three fucking years since the retardation that was vulak?
So is this Red99 team server a fresh server that will be merged into Red99 later?
1999 is the most uninformative community out there. So what type of server are they aiming for?
Deity based PvP or Good V. Evil V. Neutral?
A lot of us are rolling in Gfay. So if you want to stick with forum pals, that's where we will be. (newt)
I'd definitely be interested in this. It'll be interesting to see how they break down the factions. That said, I'm more interested in Velious for P1999.
Have they said if they are starting at Vanilla and opening the other expansions slowly? I might have to come out of retirement for this one.
Any eta? I started on red in the meantime
Me too, busting that rust on red (15 cleric) no idea on ETA but I'm going to assume it will be during the winter when the native neckbeard flocks home to its natural habitat.

Alecta, PvP dev, posted today..
The 'non-management' staff members (no Nilbog or Rogean) had a call to discuss rulesets a few days ago during which we mainly reviewed some of the better community-contributed posts.
We're going to hammer some more details out over the next week or so. I would then like to gather some community feedback on the proposed ruleset.
This weekend I am going to be making a WBS (and hopefully publishing it) so people will have a clearer idea of what needs to be done / what has been done.
So stay tuned for some Teams99 info next week or so
Great time for all potential players to give some feed back on possible rule sets.
I'll be dropping Red99 like a bad habit when this comes out.
From other of Sirkens post, it looks like they're examining this thread
BRIEF description of a hybrid hard code/soft code 3-faction ruleset - Project 1999
for the basis of teams in their dev internal discussions
i'll be all over this too. I'm a sucker for PvP. Though, FFXIV introduces PvP and housing so I may be torn. (which is a good thing)

Is there some kind of collective retardation flu going around that makes people think it'd be a good idea to do a teams server where only one of the teams has access to every class? I mean, really. It's the most unintelligent thing I've heard in emu PvP history. It'd make SZ's teams look balanced and equal in comparison. How is this not immediately obvious to some people?
Base the teams on something other than deity or race or whatever. What on Earth gives you the impression that it's worth ruining the server from the beginning in order to satisfy Everquest's extremely basic and irrelevant lore? Do you seriously think a server where only one team has every class will ever be anything but an utterly imbalanced, broken, PvP-less waste of development time and resources? 95% of the playerbase would be on the same team. I can't believe this is something that needs to be explained to you.
axeman has a point
the neutral team should be missing some classes as well, in the sake of fairness. otherwise its going to be imbalanced.
perhaps the neutral team shouldn't get paladins, necromancers, or shadow knights, for instance. that would also fit with lore -- these classes are pretty morally polarized.
Wait, won't neutral be missing Druids and Rangers? Their deities are both good, no?
the Unkempt Druid faction on Antonica is more of a neutral thing
Kelethin druids/rangers should definitely be Good aligned though (from a lore standpoint)
Zade and Sirken posted some more polls on the red forums.
Atheist Norrath Server. It's bulletproof.
noble paladin of the flying spaghetti monster
Got my first kills tonight yay. Killed my own brethren then ate their tails with fava beans and a nice chianti.
sucks dick walking around as a solo cleric in the 40s. my happy childhood in unrest has come to an end.
Rhuobhe, i saw you say in OOC that you were looking for a guild. gave up on Bronson?
I was LFG[roup] not necessarily looking for guild.
Bronson lost two to Red Dawn I believe. I might be making my move this week or not. The issue I am seeing with Bronsons is that the core of the guild (4 dudes) are on PST. So I spend all day soloing or grouping with strangers until I get killed. I am also expected to attack everyone by myself with my low level untwinked Cleric.
I feel like I'm on the Walking Dead... I cant trust anyone. Even if I go lfg I can be tricked into an ambush.
Its still fun though. I am not taking Red seriously yet for me to care about a guild. What are you all planning?
Last edited by Rhuobhe; 11-11-2013 at 04:08 PM.
yeah, guild tags at low levels seem like more of a liability than a benefit. my paladin is 46 now, gonna wait awhile before i get tagged with anyone.
i can't decide between Red Dawn and Nihilum. both guilds point at the other guild and yell "you're corrupt!" idk who to believe even. Red Dawn seems maybe morally a bit better, but all they're going to be doing in the near future is planar clears and Sebilis groups and whatnot.... stuff that i've already done a lot in the last 14 years. i kinda want to finally see Veeshan's Peak...
If you join Nihilum, you're dead to me.
Azrael and Red Dawn also have a bunch of people that the ForumQuesters call corrupt
they're all corrupt lol, but nilly ruined the server.
i wanna do end game raiding. if i've gotta pick between three corrupt guilds, i'm probably gonna pick the one that's gonna give me the most pixels. *shrugs*
if any of them are even that corrupt... i really feel like a lot of the drama is blown out of proportion (and some is entirely made up)
Not sure how I feel about Nihilum. I've been attacked by too many Nihilum alts... even when I was untagged. I also like being underdog.
Pharmakos, if you can still neckbeard at irregular hours and put up with bullshit on however long is left of red99 then go for it.
enjoy your obligatory spyware software from nizzar and eldoran.
How about you Big Flex. What are your ambitions?
its true. also, you better be comfortable with sharing your login info with the guild.
^^ i don't even know the story there. would love some more info.
I joined Flowers of Happiness. Spreading the happy with flower power. Uses to play with some of them on Rallos and WoW.
I honestly don't know the whole HB saga, other than the broad strokes like you, I was probably deployed during all of that.
Anyway, Alecta posted a WBS a sec ago that has some cool shit on it.
Zone control maps?!
Team internal guild wars?
1 team per IP?

hb supposedly has been kicked out of most of all the large guilds at some point (azrael nihilum etc) and screwed them over in terms of plat loot and characters. rumors as far as I know. sounds like a nice guy imo. people on red are psycopaths
Would join Holo if they reformed.
I'm starting to wonder if preformed guilds aren't the way to go. It almost seems like you're better off just grinding 20 hours a day for the first month, getting max level and getting the Nagafen server first with like 10 other random 45-50's and then forming a guild.
Then the top levelers from every guild join you for pixels and you snowball it into a top guild.
Eh, you'd have to endure playing with the biggest twats on the server if you do that since the first 10 level 50s are invariably intolerable, socially handicapped people who are able and willing to play 18 hours a day. It isn't worth it. You really don't want anything to do with the dregs of a community that is already vile beyond belief. It's like going to an overnight My Little Pony convention and asking to hang out with the ten least charismatic individuals.
edit: lol apparently the devs have decided on itemloot (unless Sirken is lying). So we'll have Failed P99 PvP Server 2.0 a month after it opens. Sounds like a great idea, maybe they'll do custom content next just to alienate absolutely everybody in case a few stubborn stragglers remain against all odds.

I'm a new-comer to R99 and was never well-versed in EQ raiding OR pvp... that being said, what guilds are going to choose a team that can't have shamans?
And to be fair, I think he was trying to explain that they wanted to code specific pvp item loss... e.g., pummice stones and potions. I didn't interpret his meandering/vague statements as ("We want people to lose their entire inventory upon death.") I absolutely hope he spends the hour to consult the top guild leadership solely to ask them what they think about class-restricted teams.
Well item loot dooms the server before it even opens. It will have a population of about 60 and everyone will be on the same team because you won't be able to raid otherwise .
If they do item loot I hope there is zero no drop items. No drop ship ruined RZ.
imo... combo Rallos Zek (item loot) + Firiona Vie (no NO DROP tag) rules, with added code so that you can loot items that are in bags.
Item loot is always going to turn off most people unfortunately. It's a bad way to go. Coin loot was fine I thought.
Just to summarize my thoughts on the Asheron's Call style item loot.
DROPPED Items : 1-5
LOOTABLE Items: 1
What items drop?: First one to five items with the highest VENDOR SELL VALUE.
Reason?: Allows for people to still use powerful items but at a cost of increasing their passive coin drop, also at the risk of slipping up and dropping actual items. This keeps PVP impactful and fruitful.
WARNING - Below example does not use proper item values, made up for science!
Example: Millburn has on his body three powerful items he has looted along his adventures which he does not want to lose. These items are a Fungi, a FBSS, and a Sweet ass Broom of Trilon.
Fungi sells to vendor for 400pp
FBSS sells to vendor for 300pp
Broom of Trilon sells to vendor for 500pp
To make sure he doesn't drop any of these items, Millburn always carries around 3 stacks of gems with him, each stack sells to a vendor for at least 501pp so that when he dies, the three items up for grabs from his corpse are these stacks of gems.
Again as stated, items dropped depended on level. The higher the level you were the more items dropped.
Items that dropped where the highest value items you had both on you and in your inventory. No drop quest items, DID NOT DROP!
This is why everyone on Darktide ran around in the best and cheapest armor they could find and high dmg or high armor items that had very low value were worth the most on DT.
What everyone then did is carried a bag of Death Items. Usually very light (weight still meant something in the old MMOís) and high value items like jewelry or gems so that these would always drop instead of stuff you were wearing. If you were careless though and didnít replenish your DIís before getting into a fight, you could actually lose the stuff you were wearing.
The loot system was a bit different in AC though, it was all ROG stuff and items were valued not by how good they were but by what they were made of. Example, my UA/Archer on Darktide used a Pine 113+ yumi (bow). Pine is a very low end material so even though my bow had max damage, it was valued by the game at very little. Teak, Ebony or other high end wood bows that dropped would be valued more because those woods were deemed more valuable.
In EQ it will have to be different because items arenít ROG based, they will just have a sell figure to the vendor. It actually makes it easier, you just have to make sure to carry items that are valued more than anything you wear.
I have this insane idea
Use the classic item loot mechanics
I know, I know
I got a crazy hair today
Well I played RZ later on basically Luclin + and all that happened was people full no drop gear fighting or deleveled thinks as raping everyone in sight. There was very little actual item looting as the no drop plus bagging and plugging meant you had to face up to lose anything important. It was lame as fuck. Specifically with all the anti pk bullshit the server turned into.

not sure how I feel about item loot. being forced to play naked is dumb.
It's especially dumb when you realize the actual reason why R99 failed: the admins did nothing to stop people like Holocaust and their likeness from griefing/annoying everyone off the server. While other factors contributed, that is ultimately what kills a server. Itemloot is only going to make that a lot worse as the incentive to ultra-grief people into the ground is so much greater. If everyone played the pipe dream way and didn't constantly try to fuck everyone else over, itemloot would actually work. Instead you just know it'll be a server where 75% of the playerbase are druids/necros/wizards, people will train and hack and corpsecamp, zoneplug and bag gear, avoid any fight that isn't completely one-sided, and the atmosphere will be so vile that no mentally balanced adult can tolerate it for any length of time. This is why they need to make a PvP server that can function despite these inevitabilities, not one that's doomed to fail because of them.
I don't know anything about what went down later on, I quit after like a month which was when the server basically died. This was before Nihilum was even formed. At the time, the server was falling apart for three reasons:
1) Null's ridiculous custom resist system that nobody wanted
2) The devs had launched the server and then promptly left it to fend for itself, ignoring it completely
3) The VZTZ people (most of whom were in Holocaust at the time) were griefing to the absolute max, causing dozens of unguilded players to quit each day
They obviously weren't the only griefers, but they're the ones who make a deliberate goal out of getting as many people to quit as possible. Rampant training, camping of newbie zones, things like that. There's a distinctive group of people in that community (I lump VZTZ and P99 in with "that community") who get a kick out of being as vile and hostile as they possibly can, creating an unbearable environment both on the forums and in-game. There's room for them if the server is built in a way that they don't get to destroy it, but that wasn't the case on early R99 since the admins were pretty much ignoring everything but a few of the most notable exploits, and if they really do make T99 an itemloot server, this type of player will have an even easier time destroying that server.
The server will need to be somewhat enforced to prevent the more extreme forms of abuse (corpse camping newbies for entire days, training over and over, etc.) and also have a hardcoded design that encourages PvP instead of discouraging it. There's always gonna be people who fight dirty and that's not a problem in itself, but if the server is set up in a way that they're allowed free reign to do as much damage as possible with no safeguards against excessive griefing, so many players will quit that the server isn't sustainable. It's frankly silly to suggest that the server was ruined by Holocaust getting banned. Quite a lot of them should have been banned before they did, and even so, a server doesn't die because 5% of its playerbase gets banned.
Amusingly, the initial Holo crew would never really PvP, part of the reason I quit was that there simply wasn't any PvP unless you ran around alone and looked for 1v1s. They just fucked about in the most remote places, getting PLed by Cast and running at the first sign of trouble. I never managed to see a single IF vs. Holo fight in like three weeks and then I quit out of boredom when I saw that the server was dying already. People quitting the server was what killed it, not the banning of a group of players. It was dead before Nihilum was formed, they were a symptom of the server being DOA.
Null and whomever had lots of "Hey guys when we patch XYZ will be fixed, hold tite!" stuff ready to go and then had to look like asses because Rogean wouldn't respond to initiate a patch. For 2+ months.. By then I and 90% of the people I'd seen or known of had quit playing. Most of them in my opinion because of being shown that their concerns and whatnot meant nothing to the head honcho. Shame really as it was pretty dang fun to start.
Axeman name more than 2 Holo who griefed you or a friend off the server
Nobody griefed me off the server, I quit because the server was garbage. It was also two years ago and I haven't touched it since. Don't get your panties in a bunch because I said something about your friends.
