Only one episode so far, but I enjoyed it.
Great show well worth it. Ray Donovan, a professional "fixer" for the rich and famous in LA, can make anyone's problems disappear except those created by his own family.
Irish gangster mob shit in L.A. working for HOllywood

"I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology.
Only one episode so far, but I enjoyed it.
You're terrible at marketing this show. I don't even know what time or channel this is on!
showtime, and no idea, I watch everything on the internet.
Apparently it's on the net b/c showtime released it two weeks ahead of the premiere on purpose. Someone edit that into the OP.

So with red hair Trixie becomes Conan Obrien's female doppelganger.
I just watched the linked video above (censored first episode). There isn't a single character that I could relate to or even like, and yet I'm interested in seeing episode 2. Color me intrigued.
Anyone else watching? It's a really great new show on SHO if you haven't seen it.
Liked the second episode even better than the first one. Fucking Jon Voight is an awesome bad guy.
I almost like Ray's Russian buddy even better than him.
yeah, a lot of great characters. "Hey, you're the boxer? "
My favorite part about this show is that Ray only speaks like 30 words in an entire episode, maybe less.
Just watched the first two episodes definitely love the show so far. Not overly dramatic just nice and simple. Solid acting so far.
The opening scene this week was probably one of the more disturbing things I have seen on any screen since watching the opening of "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead". Funny they involved the same action being performed.
This is currently my favorite show not involving meth or dragons.
Really good show but holy fucking shit are those boston accents unbearable.
Finally watched all five episodes yesterday. I'm impressed and looking forward to more.
Thought this would be shallow and overly Hollywood stylistic city gangster gunplay but I've now seen all the episodes & I love it. Totally surprised me for the better.
How the fuck was this show on page 3? Excellent last episode, I just love all the storylines in this show. I am really curious about the father and what he might have done/didn't do to Bridget. Seems like this episode hinted that Ray might be mistaken in his beliefs.
This episode was great. Thus far, this has been my favorite new series, it's right up there with the greats like Sopranos, Wire, BWE and the rest.
lol, I think the Lesbian office chick is my favorite character though. She's pretty bad ass. Either her or Steven Bauer.
Yeah I tried the Pilot and didn't like it then some friend told me it gets way better than the father-son hate bullshit. Quite a good show so far, Liev Shreiber is quite good at being a sociopath.
I think it's entertaining, but saying it's up there with The Sopranos and The Wire is quite a stretch. The show is pretty stupid when you really think about it. I mean the writers have Ray Donovan, one of the most connected men in L.A., travel to Boston just so they can introduce some irritating Whitey Bulger type from his past. The show is just full of annoying characters and they keep finding lousy ways to introduce new ones.
Also, as for this example specifically, Ray went to see him because he didn't have anyone else he could involve in a murder plot, who was also connected enough to actually get in to see the guy. It would have made much, much less sense for him to send anyone else. Unless you're saying he could have just hired a hit man locally? But there has been nothing in the show so far to illustrate that he would use people outside of his organization to do something like that--Because in the show, it seems like him and Manny are the muscle. So them not trusting an outside contract killer, especially with something a sensitive as this? Makes sense to me. (And again, this is not realism, of course realistically the head of an organization doesn't get his own hands dirty--but internal consistency, much like in the above Sopranos example, trumps realism, unless your show is about realism, like The Wire.)
So, no, I don't think it's dumb when looking at this example...I mean, there have been dumb aspects of the show (Even the best shows have them--lol white knight Reporter/Serial Killer Mcnulty S5 Wire), but this example is not one of them.

That FBI agent was so damned full of himself he didn't even realize that he signed his own death warrant ;P
Yeah, the moment he said he was working alone I knew it was lights out. Kinda wish Mickey had just done it immediately instead of letting him ramble on that long.
Thing about it is now Ray is fucked and so is his leak at the department. As soon as he hands the bosses that agents file and they investigate and find the picture board and other evidence, all the attention is going to Ray.
Should I give this show another chance? I was completely unimpressed with the first episode. His demeanor and decision making made no sense to me. The writers seemed to be trying to paint him as the mobster with a heart of gold who happens to be a cold stone badass who wants to do the right thing but only has internal struggles for about 2 minutes until he finally gives in and fucks the dumb drunk. And jesus christ was his wife annoying.
I'm in the same boat as Khane. I saw the first episode and the beginning of the 2nd, then put it aside. I didn't really give a shit about the characters. I have every episode sitting on my harddrive, but I'm unsure if I'll watch it.
Is it really worth a damn, or just another skippable drama?
It's decent. It's not going to become a cultural talking point, but it does improve as the season goes on.
I think it's really good, obviously, especially as they move toward the ensemble more and less about Ray. I actually think the other characters are more interesting than him, and they get a good deal more play in the later episodes.
I just realized I wrote cold stone badass instead of stone cold badass. I'm leaving it, he's an ice cream loving maniac.
I think this show is fucking great, the last ep especially. Fucking Mickey Donovan is the man haha.
just marathoned through the entire season so far, fucking hell the show definitely gets better with each episode. last one just blew me away (hah!) at the end, pretty bummed the season finale already is tomorrow. mickey is definitely the breakout star of the show, an awesomely insane character. Definitely going on my regular watch list next season.
Really all the characters are just awesome, even Bunchie who is the Skyler of the show manages to fuck things up in such a spectacular way you can't help but be amazed.
I seriously hate Ray's wife, she sucks
Yuck, she had saggy pancake tits way back when she was in Deadwood. I'm sure they haven't gotten better with age.
I hated her on Deadwood, I hated her on SoA, I hate her on Ray Donovan.
oderint dum metuant
She was obnoxious on Caprica but she was supposed to be obnoxious.
Anyway, the finale was great.
Jon Voight lives to see another season, surprising.
They shot my nigga Avi.
This turned out to be a very good show.
Well that, in my opinion, was a pretty good finale. No loose ends, no lame cliffhanger and finally some closure about Ray's childhood with his fathers' wrongdoings. As I already said, I didn't like the Pilot, thought it was another bullshit father / son drama over some thin plot. Series got better and better over the episodes : Liev Schreiber is definitely going somewhere with character, and the oldies (Gould, Woods and Voight) were mostly perfect. I didn't really hate his wife (though I think Paula Malcolmson was obnoxious in both Sons of Anarchyan and Caprica), I was also relieved when morales didn't get in the way too often and I like the general tone of the show, it reminded me of Brotherhood, another Showtime top tier series from Showtime. Show's being given a season 2, let's see how it goes.
I just watched this entire series over the past 3 days. Holy shit I love this show. I was hooked from the first couple episodes and it just held up all the way thru, imo. This is easily one of my favorite new shows. Any news on if it has been greenlit for season 2 yet?
Seriously guys, watch this shit.
shows been renewed already for season 2 and its the strongest showtime show behind dexter (now over) and homeland in ratings. and yeah, I agree this was the sleeper breakout over the summer, most people prob haven't watched it but easily the best new show this year.
btw if you were trying to figure out who ezras girlfriend was, its tasha yar from star trek TNG season 1
Season two prediction:
We find out Mickey is a good guy. He thought he shot the correct priest. He even made this his first stop for revenge for the boys. He acts as though he is working with the FBI to find out who all they were after and who all knew. Then blows the guy's brains out.
Someone framed Mickey and made Ray believe he needed to put Mickey behind bars. Probably Ezra. More about him in a bit.
We will see something from Avi's past. He is bad ass. I'm hoping we see more of him.
Terry will kill the nurse to protect his brothers; going against his dislike of the death of the molester priest.
Bunchy is Keyzer Soze. Or Ezra is.
Definitely a great season. Glad to hear it has been renewed.
I wasn't 100% sold on the pilot either, but I thought there was potential. I watched it week to week because each subsequent episode was better than the last. Here's hoping that trend continues in season 2.
I'm 7 episodes in and man this show is fucking great. I can't wait to finish it off but I have to watch SNF tonight! ><
The fucks over on Neogaf and just trashing this show. I couldn't believe it. Ray Donovan - Liev Schreiber and John Voight Fix Scandals - Sundays on Showtime - NeoGAF
PSN: Araxen, Xbox Live: Araxen II, WiiU: Araxen, Steam: Araxen
That thread compared it to True Blood--then some guy said it was bad and he only watches because nothing else is on after Dexter.
That thread is full of fucking morons.
