It's Nebraska. They didn't go through any *ification process, they've always been like that.
This is beyond out of hand now. I am speechless at some of the "news" stories I read anymore. I feel like the media is the only group that highlights these absurd stories and all it does is make it known that the US isn't as free or forward thinking as we would like to. I see more and more of these kinds of stories every month and it's embarrassing.
School says deaf boy's name sign looks too much like a gun
I honestly thought that was an Onion article at first until I saw the source.
We can use this thread to highlight these ridiculous stories, discuss social issues and be insulted by our non-American posters.

our boys are failing schools and yet this is the best we can do?

“I asked: ‘In the time it would have taken him to go get a teacher, could that kid’s throat have been slit?’
She said yes, but that’s beside the point. That we ‘don’t condone heroics in this school.’

It's like the scene in Munchausen where they execute the Hero because he's bad for morale!
Public schools are seriously liberal pussy indoctrination camps. Uniforms in school is a big fucking helping of pc pussification along with the "don't fight back" mentality.
97% of the forum posters here are liberal pussies so this is no surprise.
School uniforms have very little to do with liberal pussification. It is about putting the kids in a different mindset. you of all people should know about that, Marine.
I cannot fucking believe the kid got in trouble for standing up to the bully with the knife. That is fucking crazy. This whole "zero tolerance" culture is beyond fucking stupid. If my kid did that, I would make sure he knew that he did the right thing.
That's exactly it. Our government/culture likes to look at every issue as if it is black-and-white. Zero Tolerance & No Excuse. It's such a limited view. Our lives are much more complex than that.
Grand Island is also the "Round up all them thar spics and cart em to INS" city-ordinance passers a few years ago, so I'm pretty sure any political-correctness pussification occurring in town is counteracted by red-blooded (and necked) Real American virtues.
I live in Nebraska; have my entire life (outside of 2 years in Colorado). A lot of people push the use of politically correct speech, and most people are extremely polite. "Causing waves" is highly frowned upon. However, it's not because Nebraska is secretly liberal or anything. It's because Nebraska is a state entirely comprised of passive aggressive backstabbing shitheads whose entire social construct relies on being outwardly polite, caring, and happy, whilst inwardly deciding exactly how they are going to try to drag you down (or, in the case of minorities, drag you up the nearest pole; or for homosexuals, behind their truck).

No, that really is a Midwest thing. The overly polite and nice attitude is really a front. It's very passive-aggressive.
The Midwest does tend to be more PC than other parts of the country partly due to how homogeneous it is. Minority jokes tend to be in poor taste when there are no minorities there to take them in stride.
Kids cant play tag anymore because they are not allowed to touch eachother. True story.
A girl got in trouble in kindergarden for giving out hugs. This happened a few yrs ago. My son was in her class and told us about it.
My 8yr old kids principal called last week because he said "bitch" to another kid on the playground. She actually "investigated" this event by calling in other kids to her office and asking them if he really said it. I guess that must of been the "big thing" that happened at the school last week. ROFL She told my wife its all the violent video games hes playing.

My nephew's schools texts my sister at least once a week about a school lockdown due to a security threat...usually another school in district but not hers, but still a hair-raising text to get...every week. Suspicious homeless guy: Lockdown. Car parked in school lot: Lockdown.
She tells me my nephew doesn't get graded on actual learning...he gets assigned colors based on his behavior for the week. Yay, behavior modification, boo actual learning!
I don't have children, so get to be the bad uncle and not be a part of this wonderful system we're creating; I understand I could be totally off about it, but hearing these stories just blows my mind.
Well yeah, I'm sure they didn't try to explain indoctrination concepts to you in middle school. But that isn't the actual reason for school uniforms. Or if it is in some district for some reason, they are doing it wrong.
When you got to boot camp, what was the first thing you actually did? I mean after you got off the bus and the big spectacle thing happened. Uniform issue. The idea is the same. Destroy the image of self and assimilate into the borg.

I know you are smarter than "uniforms because poor people won't sad." I brought up boot camp because I figured that was a something you could easily relate, but maybe you weren't paying attention, or maybe Marine service really is that much different than every other service and they encourage rugged individualism and free expression.
yeah in the 50's all the schools had uniform like dress codes, I get to hear my dad blame the beatles for encouraging kids to grow long hair that started the decline of dress codes in public schools atleast once a year.
It's free man, just take it.
Not everything on the internet is true - Abraham Lincoln
That damn LifeLock ad gives me new browser tabs in Firefox. It's mad gay.
Someone needs to inform Japan that they are now considered ultra liberal thanks to their school uniforms.
that explains their wild fetishes and abundance of schoolgirl porn.
Grade school "education" is a major contributing factor to the scholastic erosion we see. It's pretty disturbing just how remedial most collegiate level classes are becoming. Of course colleges aren't a good example. Provided there were people willing to pay for it, schools would teach them how to blink.
Oh, please with the school uniforms. My wife teaches middle and high school. Do you know how effing nice it is that she doesn't have to have conversations about skirt length, and how much cleavage is appropriate? It is fantastic that if a young woman has an inappropriately short skirt all she has to say is "uniform infraction," and the whole discussion of "you are dressed like a little whore," doesn't have to happen. Parents can deal with that shit. Teachers should spend their time teaching school material, not preventing whorish dressing. Step up, parents, and do your fucking job.
School uniforms are awesome. This is just one reason why. The whole forced conformity issue is absolutely ridiculous.
I wasn't saying it was a bad thing, in general I think there are a lot more positives than negatives to school uniforms. It just is what it is.
My only problem with school uniforms is its hard to find the button up shirts they require in middle school for my daughter because basically only wal mart sells them and I hate shopping at wal mart.
When I was in middle school, starter jackets and fucking nike basketball shoes like Air Jordan's were all the rage and there was a lot of bullying related to clothing (early 90s) that went on. That's really why they went with the uniform dress code crap. To cut all that nonsense out. It really was a distraction to the schooling, and this way its harder for kids to divide into cliques based on whose parents are making 6 figures plus versus those who are making 5.
Its one of the few things about public school that I thought I would have a problem with but ultimately I don't. It helps maintain some degree of sanity in the relations between the kids in the school. Sounds weird, but kids are superficial as fuck about clothing for some reason.
Uniforms are great for schooling. Should be mandatory across the country. Eliminates a lot of the gang bullshit and all other kinds of squabbling and bullying based on clothing
That bully was just being a bully, he wasn't about to fucking murder the kid in cold blood in the middle of a classroom. That 13 year old didn't save the kid's life, he just got himself involved in a violent scuffle, which I'm pretty sure most schools discourage, and with good reason.
Hell, for any fight you choose to join you can claim to be "defending" someone involved. Doesn't make you a hero.
Not to mention, as much as students protest uniforms, once the system is in place it's a huge load off their shoulders. No more deciding what to wear, considering if it looks too cheap, if it fits in with what your friends are wearing, etc.
So you guys are telling me that Phoenix's original point of public school uniforms is true, and my kid and I are the only 2 people who's public school didn't require a uniform?
How about that teacher that got fired for saying negro. Did I mention they were a spanish teacher and they were saying it meant the color black? Fuck america. Right in it's fucking red, white, and blue dick hole. Time to dock in that dick.
When I was going through a teaching program years ago some of the teachers I was with were far more cynical regarding the benefits of uniforms. In such a system you end up with some students with few sets of clothing and one pair of shoes that they have to wear a long time and the other students that look crisp and new every day of the year. The kids know who is poor and who is rich just like everyone knows. I can still them being very useful in eliminating inappropriate attire and all that related bullshit but I seriously question their ability to do anything regarding bullying or stigmatizing.
I'm a product of public schooling and I wouldn't have had it any other way. All my friends who went to private schools hated it. The real world is more like public school than private school.
The public schools to which my children go all have uniforms. Not as strict as many private schools, but they may only wear certain things, certain colours, and certain styles. It accomplishes all of the good things mentioned above without making them look like little Catholic school girls. I know that as a school kid, I would have hated all types of uniforms as well. We had no uniform requirements, and it was chaos. Had one girl who wore her bikini top to school in warm weather. How the heck was I supposed to concentrate as a 16 year old boy with hooters staring at me?
Education in the USA is absolutely fucked and it makes me sick. Teachers have their hands tied behind their backs in everything they do because of pussy parents and the curriculums are atrocious and focus only on helping students pass shitty standardized tests. There's hardly any learning going on anymore and it's no wonder there is a massive shortage of teacher in counties across the USA.
I spent time teaching abroad and the level of maturity and knowledge that 10 - 15 year olds possessed overseas was staggering in comparison to similarly aged kids in the USA.
And yes, standardized tests ruin any chance of a worthwhile curriculum. Standardized tests are a bunch of horseshit. Lowest common denominator.
I knew this one guy who went to a private school who took it upon himself to bully some kid because he thought he looked "gay". So he led a posse, pinned this guy to the ground and cut off all his hair.
Grew up to be a total sociopath afterwards and later on became semi-famous.
From my experience uniforms did fuck all. Dealers, sluts, and thugs didn't alter their behavior or suddenly become "disciplined' because everyone had the same style of clothing on.
It also depends on what constituted a uniform. Just saying "we're not allowing baggy pants or sports jackets" is not equivalent to having a uniform.
These are the kind of uniforms we had in my grade school

If you read "Freakonomics," the popular 2005 book that applied economic theories to non-economic issues, you probably remember the mention of African American twins named OrangeJello and LemonJello (pronounced a-RON-zhello and le-MON-zhello).
As it turns out, the pair and their names are pure urban legend,
So wait... Freakonomics was mostly just ignorant trendy bullshit?
STOP BEING SUCH A DICK, MAN.
The girl uniforms were titillating which I'm sure was done to encourage breeding since Soviet birth rates were always low and losing tens of millions of men in WW2 didnt help matters much.
I never had complaints about the girl uniforms.
It's insane how much better the students I taught in Kazahstan are at things like math and science than students in the USA. Not to mention geography. Most American kids I know would be lucky to locate Russia on a map, but these foreign students could find damn near any country in the world.
Speaking along the same theme of pussification of America, it is refreshing to go abroad and not see retarded warning signs everywhere. I remember signs in (Dulles? Maybe BWI? airport) over the moving sidewalk warning that the sidewalk ends in 30 feet, watch your step! Then 20 feet, watch your step! Then 10 feet, watch your step! It seems that in most countries if you fall or otherwise hurt yourself due to stupidity, you deserve it. In the USA you're rewarded.

Noodleface is one of the most overtly racist members of this community. I seriously doubt black people are to blame why the PC culture has taken America by storm. That's a white guilt thing that's spiraled out of control.
McCheese, you're the dude that abandoned the crazy Russian girl, right? That story was scary.
The comic with the black guy going to jail, sorry I fail at quoting - my seething racism for anything except whites had me blinded with white hot rage.
I'm not rascist.. I just happen to hate all degenerates that suck the life out of society. This includes but is not limited to:
- Most blacks
- Almost all hispanics
- Some whites
Noodleface must love Asians.
"Culturalism" is just as bad. I'm not even sure how to interpret that. What culture do you think is superior?
I'm sorry my post is the product of me choosing poorly where I got an apartment. I'm the only dude in here that has a job and coincidentally the only dude who has to pay for their own food and rent. Must be nice having escalades and beamers on food stamps!
I agree that it's not an easy or comfortable discussion to have, and a lot of it may well be thinly veiled racism, but in my mind there is no question that the cultures of some nations/regions are better than others, depending on how you define "better" (and that's a whole other argument unto itself).
I just don't accept that every culture is equal or even to be respected. Some are unquestionably wrong headed and straight up fucked, and we shouldn't be afraid to say so. Do you stone women to death for being raped? If you answer is yes, then your culture fucking sucks.

We need Dumar in here. This culture talk tickles my pickle.
I went to private school for junior high. All girls, textbook traditional uniform with the white blouse, pleated plaid skirts, white socks and black mary janes and optional sweatervest.
Looking back, I had no choice but to turn out gay.

Yeah. If they made guys dress like that, I probably would have at least thought about it. Schoolgirl outfits are like instant wood treatment.
School uniforms are pretty cool, I went to private school as a kid and I looked forward to getting into my outfit. I felt like I was going to do something important. I also had to use a fountain pen for tests and homework. The upside is we had more days off than the public school kids due to religious holidays. We had religion class and attended mass everyday. Oh and the food in the cafeteria was actually cooked meals, not mystery meat. You just had to watch your shit, like all the time because if you got out of line the nuns would beat the holy fuck out of you. I had it a little worse because my parents were friends with the principal head nun so if I got in trouble I would get a beatdown from the nun and one when I got home from school. Basically I was on my best behavior for most of my childhood til I was 16 and did my junior/senior years in a public high school. Holy fuck, it was like road warrior in comparison.

It is absolutely the parents. In almost every circumstance. Parents who don't care, can't see correctly, or don't even speak the fucking language. These are the assholes producing shit kids who know teachers are absolutely powerless in this retarded fucking society we've built.
Seriously, fuck kids, and fuck shitty parents. Should've aborted your faggot fucking children so I don't have to deal with their bullshit.
Disclaimer: There are incredible students who make this shit worth getting up in the morning and going to work, but some days... fuck me in the ass with a rusty spoon.
Edit: Btw, like I already posted, I am aware that parents in general are doing a poor job.
