Did you mean 5/12?
Series ordered for the (speculative) 2013-14 season. First look will be during Once Upon a Time's season finale this Sunday (5/12*).
* Yes, yes I did mean the 12th. Seriously had a Friday the 13th thing in my head.

i haven't read comics in years, so is shield like a bunch of humans who try to do shit normally and then ask for help from the avengers when they can't handle it or is avengers just like a team within shield, which has other superheroes too?
Never read the shield comics but yeah they are just a Special Forces unit and when they couldnt handle something they went and assembled the avengers and would call on them occasionally. Only real member with any superpowers was Captain America/Bruce Banner, everyone else was normal like Black Widow, Hawk Eye, Fury, Tony Stark, Hill ect. Then again I guess it all depend on what Universe you're going off of

There's actually quite a few super heroes who are shield agents as well. Ms marvel and spider-woman to name a few

The comic history of SHIELD will not have much to do with this show I imagine. It's gonna be a lot closer to X-Files than a superhero show. If they do it right it will be like the various "case of the week" cop type shows, just with superpowers. Either powered person is killed, or person is killed in a way that indicates it was a superpowered killer. Engage Castle/L&O/CSI mode.
I wouldn't be surprised if it started as basically a superheroic procedural, but given Whedon's past work, there will be underlying plot buried even in the early part of the season.

did you notice the hashtag
definately watching this. the shorts on the dvd's that have coulson in it are awesome.
I think this could work.
Mesh the typical weekly Network Cop show with Marvel universe.
Every week they investigate a case involving various mutants and super humans needing to be classified for shield. Have a X files like Hero of the week. Franchise help drives ratings as well. Could be good.
And the guy that plays Coulson is good enough to be the main character on an ABC show. Cast seems solid considering what it is.
Executives at Warner Brothers have to be pissing their pants. DC Comics has been part of a major media conglomerate for over 30 years and the best they've managed is admittedly kickass animated series and Smallville/Arrow. Disney buys Marvel and within a few years has a dominant multi-picture franchise in the form of the Marvel Movie Universe but also manages to tie it into this on their major network? The only thing holding Marvel back now is that their IP is scattered across several different companies thanks to really bad decisions regarding movie rights in the 80s
Really wish Marvel could get back those other franchises.
DC has all my favorites. Batman and Superman. right now Arrow is really kicking ass too. so they arent doing too badly.
The funny thing is that Disney has very little to do with this outside of the funding. Nice article on Yahoo about the "Salary Wars" going on between the major actors after the success of Avengers. Inside there's quotes from Disney execs where they basically punt everything Marvel over to Marvel.
Didn't Disney reject the alcoholism part of the last ironman movie?
I look forward to seeing the explanation for Coulson being alive... LMD Incoming in 3... 2... 1...
I also see this as a place they can start pre-seeding all the stuff they were cramming into those post credit scenes. Unlike Star Trek this can be a series that goes from TV to movie and back again.. over and over.
I'm insanely excited for this. I rarely watch shows immediately on release nowadays because so much shit gets shoveled out, but this is one I'll be watching from day 1.
I really hope they don't shy away from referencing the "big" characters and events from the movies; throw in some references to Tony Stark, Banner, Thor, etc. now and then to keep people remembering that this is all happening in a single universe. I have a fear, however, that they're going to try to keep it as self-contained as possible in order not to alienate potential viewers who haven't seen the movies. That's the typical marketing-oriented bullshit that network executives would make.
really they have no need to promote any of their big titles on show, pre-Disney one of their stated objective was shove more of the less know titles into the limelight. i could see it as a test bed for a couple spinoffs and stuff like that. pretty sure they are still trying to get Mockingbird and Cloak/Dagger series going.
ABC released fall sched. with be on Tuesday at 8pm.
right now that puts it up against NCIS, still one of the top shows. will be interesting to see how that plays out
I'd imagine the average viewer for NCIS is considerably older than the target audience for Agents of SHIELD. Just an assumption, of course, but I'm sure someone here has the specific demographics numbers.
All my friends are already singing praises for how awesome this show will be. I'm the only one of them that's saying "How about we see a couple episodes first before talking about how great it is?"

He doesn't look cool enough to be Luke Cage to me. I mean... sure, he's black, but he isn't... I don't know. Kinda hope that isn't Luke Cage, Luke Cage should be more than that.
Looks awesome otherwise.
Cage just needs a badass swagger to him that the guy in that video doesn't seem to have, he seems a bit too meek to me I guess.
Needs more "Fuck you whitey, I'm Luke Motherfucking Cage!"
That was a nice trailer. Where are the other 39 minutes?
Michael Jai White as Black Dynamite as Luke Cage.
Hurm, I wonder if Whedon will really be directing the series, or if they're just tacking his name on the trailers....
I doubt that Whedon is going to be full tilt hands on. He'll probably be the one okaying story lines and stuff but I doubt he'll be directing. He's pretty much neck deep in all the Marvel stuff to have that much time. He's already complained he has almost no time to work on Dr. Horrible 2.
His brother he always works with, Jed, and Maurissa Tancharoenthey who they work with most of the time will be showrunners. Joss directed the pilot.
A few weeks later ABC ordered a pilot for a show called S.H.I.E.L.D.; the pilot was to be written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, directed by Joss Whedon, and executive produced by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb. Jed Whedon, Tancharoen and Bell will serve as showrunners if the pilot goes to series.
Maybe every now and then have a big character for an episode or two, kind of like Entourage and Californiation. Or just small cameos here and there... either way I think having say Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, or Steve Rogers making random appearances would be a nice touch.
Of course, I will die if Dum Dum Dugan makes an appearance. He's the man!
Every Marvel character was an Avenger at some point.
And that guy being Rage makes more sense. Not that I have any idea who Rage is, I just assumed the strong black dude was Cage.
There were talks about a Cloak & Dagger series a while back, that's a pair I could easily see them dealing with. Small enough they're not really movie level properties, and for the most part their powers won't require insane CGI.
Yeah because throwing light daggers and having a Huge ass black hole cloak that swallows people doesn't require a lot of CGI....
The shield series might be able to introduce some "smaller" superheroes, like have carol Danvers be a rookie, mockingbird, cloak and dagger to some extent, although i don't know if they were avengers, i know they helped spiderman a lot. I fully agree on linking some avengers stuff in there, like in an R&D lab seeing them fiddle on an old iron man suit. Maybe in a main base see a hulk sized hole in the wall, coulson saying "yeah, never take food labelled Banner out of the fridge"
No real need to explain Coulson being alive though, they never said he was dead in the movie...Fury just made them assume he was dead, but never outright said it.
Him being Rage actually doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Mind you I haven't read Avengers in over 15 years so who knows what retcons have taken place, but I do have the the initial Cage books. He was a scrawny little kid that had some accident (drugs, radiation, fuck if I remember) and ended up in this supersized roided out body. The dude they showed isn't even a bodybuilder, just a normal average guy.
I'd be even more impressed if they fucked with people by tossing some blurry Superman/Batman colors across the screen for a split second and say something like they didn't make the cut, or some silly green construct roaring by and fucking everything up because the wielder is an idiot, but I understand why they would never do those things too.
Also, the line about taking Banner's food out of the fridge is fucking gold. I like the way you think.
Even if this didn't look interesting, I'd follow it just for the insane levels of comic fan whining it's going to engender.
" I wonder if you are destined to be forgotten. Will your life fade in the shadow of greater beings?"
So apparently they showed the pilot at ComicCon. They're really touching on the past films in the MCU it seems, from what I've read on the cliff's notes.
Since Cobie Smaulders is pretty much confirmed as a recurring appearance (duh, right?), I'm really wondering if we'll see Samuel L getting a nod here and there for, say, multiparters and/or finale episodes.
Saw no thread about this.
Directed by Joss Whedon. Will probably be awesome.
Premiers September 24th.
yeah we already talked about it. Went on for a quite a few pages and I think we unanimously decided it was going to be garbage and no one is going to bother watching. If you don't see the last thread, it might have just been deleted.
Seven days and counting! Really curious how this is going to stack up in the timeslot.

torrents just went up on most major sites ~20odd minutes ago.
Downloaded and giving it a shot.

Pretty good first ep.
good episode-will watch it next week.
ok...what doesn't coulson know?
the real one?
Good team forming episode. Looks promising.
Pretty sure Coulson was healed in Asgard and thinks it was Tahiti.
I really enjoyed it, except for the fact that the copy I got had choppy as fuck audio in a couple of spots, including the ending.
I will definitely be watching this every week the moment I get it.
This show is pretty meh at best.
PSN: Araxen, Xbox Live: Araxen II, WiiU: Araxen, Steam: Araxen
I enjoyed it. I'll be watching at least for a while.
I liked it overall but I thought it was dicey. The acting seemed real bad at first, but I guess it grew on me a little because I didn't mind as much at the by the end. The plot and characters were pedestrian. On the upside the sets, effects, and props were top notch, and there were lot of hooks. I'll probably watch it regardless because hey comics, but I hope it hits a stride.
edit: The brief fight choreography was a lot better than we usually get too.

Liked it better when it was called Torchwood. But so far so good. I liked it.
was pretty good i guess. the Pursuit of happyness dude was not a very good actor and i could have done without the back to the future reference at the end. but as was said, hey comic books. lets see how fast these quality special effects last before the suits at abc say "whoa! this shit is costing us how much per episode?" then ill decide if its still worth watching.
Much better than I expected, they know its cheesy and embrace it a la Arrow.
No idea how long it lasts if they keep the budget at the level of the pilot episode.
Terrible, gave up 30 minutes in.
- True Lies did it better
- Tries too hard for comic relief
- Some of the characters were getting on my nerves
Yeah, didn't really like the special effects since they felt like a waste of money. Didn't add enough to the show to justify whatever it was that they cost, but if it ends up they were cheap and will happen every episode, then no biggie.
Apart from that, decent enough pilot. Certainly nothing so glaringly bad to stop me watching more, but I'm a sucker for any geeky type show.
I enjoyed this better than pretty much any pilot I have seen for the last few years (Not including channels like HBO,STARZ etc.). Nice to see some veteran actors from Firefly/Angel in the show. It was a little choppy and flooded but that is to be expected for a pilot. Really looking forward to the characters being more developed out.
As far as the budget concern, I was surprised at how much Firefly was able to accomplish with the budget it had.
I will watch this and I must say it feels nice to have a non-reality based show that shows real promise back on network T.V.
You also have to remember Marvel is Disney's baby right now. The purse strings are going to be a bit looser for this show than other unproven shows of this type.
Also I thought the plan is to use this to get lesser heroes out that may develop into movies later. Plus have some bigger heroes show up for background etc. A lot of stuff is possible.
You forgot how god awful most pilots are and how godly awesome shows turn into by the end of the first season.
You gotta spend money to make money.
Insert your cliché here.
But it's true. They can afford to take minimal gains and even losses on this, as it helps to promote all the rest of their shit.
As far as the episode goes, it was pretty good. To me some of the music seemed out of place especially during the beginning opening part with the building.
Going forward though as I was telling someone bout this. Since Disney owns ABC/Marvel they can use this to promote upcoming movies or whatever kinda like the Wizard promoted the Nintendo as a gaming analogy. I also liked that they referenced the avenger and iron man movies/events. Throw that stuff in there to justify X happening in the show going forward if it fits (as a continuity nerd it's nice too.) Thor was mentioned just to get the name out there...upcoming Thor movie...just a coincidence? maybe

I turned it off after about 20 minutes. They just kept talking and talking about shit I didn't care about.
Watched it last night, was not that bad. It felt the effects sucked, each brick blowing up outward while he was going up the building... then he was like "oh shit I may fall" then "fuck it jump time!" okaaayy... Sets where nice, costumes however you could tell are made by sizes rather than individually for that exact person (that or I am wanting the Asians suit to be tighter...)
But it was decent, I will watch again- and as many said Pilot Episodes are usually worse than the show.
The show is practically an infomercial for the rest of the Marvel movie/dvd/toy franchise and as such will likely continue to get the preferred treatment from the Mothership. Unlike Warner Brothers who cannot get out of their own way with their DC properties Disney has a very clear strategy in mind with all this. Hell the premiere even incorporated a plotline from Iron Man 3 which conveniently hit DVD and blu ray the same day...
I enjoyed it. While yes, it did touch on a lot of the movies I think it did so well, as it did so in a way that didn't leave you feeling "fuck, I didn't see the movie so I don't know what is going on".
Also as much as they made movie references, they made comic ones to. Some were just cute meta ("Are you read for our little journey into mystery?") and others will probably be more important in time (Project PEGASUS), again though if you don't know what they're talking about it doesn't matter and if you do it is just great fan service that makes you happy to pay attention and shows someone writing the show gives a fuck.
It wasn't "omgamazing" or anything, but it was fun and I look forward to more. And yes, hopefully the fact that it is an hour long commercial keeps it on the air longer.
