See how this goes.
Eh, servers go down and drop your game a lot. Boring card mechanics as well pssss
Really I have not tried it yet hmm ?
This game is actually pretty fucking fun for a free game.
Bump, discovered this by accident in one of the steam tabs. Dicked through tutorial. So far at least faster/more fun than some of the magic games that have been out the last couple years if not very deep. No idea how bad of a freemium it is but as a noob seems somewhat lenient. (Kinda like how I like war thunder for not being a rape for cash vs things like World of tanks etc)
Other than waiting for things like hearthstone which I have no idea if I'd like (no beta 4 me) any other suggestions for PC based card games. (Esp with human opponents.)
I can't help but feel sorry for CCGs like this that are going to be buried by Blizzard and some of the hyped Kickstarter ones. Talk about a glut of CCGs. What was the name of the card game by the guy who made Minecraft? Ouch.
Thanks for the bump. this is pretty neat. Way more complex then hearthstone. Bit more enjoyable in the regard.
could use more polish though. sound effects, animations, smoother card play ui.
Scrolls is the Mojang one.
A bump with a, "I am enjoying this WAY more then hearthstone".
The attack/defend system is far more elegant. Allowing defenders the chance to defend.
Far far more special card interactions.
The hero system is far more robust. with special skills, and magic schools.
Much deeper card library makes building more varied decks easier. Although making a top tier deck, harder.
Overall UI, does need work. its manageable. and thats
I've been playing this some recently. Compared to hearthstone, I agree it's a superior card game. The problem I have with it, is that while it is free to play, you earn cards through free methods much, much slower than hearthstone. Really hope they expand on ways to earn cards without cash, because the game could be a winner if that happens.
Also, hearthstone does just give you a free deck for each hero. this one does not. you get one free deck, and have to unpack the rest.
But that is almost my complaint with HS. 3 days of play and I have the same exact mage deck and hunter deck that is tournament ready. Playing the same deck over and over isn't that fun imho. and Arena goes the exact opposite direction and is just a mess imho.
I have to say, after playing this for the last 24 hours and hearthstone for weeks, it is straight up a better and more interesting game than Hearthstone in every way.
The games feel more strategic, way more thought into deck construction, more interesting deck ideas. Just flat out superior and the games can be fast-paced I would imagine (right now I have to constantly look at cards).
The only downside I see is you start out with less cards and there is no "arena" mode. However, it really has just killed all interest in hearthstone for me.
I agree, this is much better than Hearthstone or Soulforge.
Can someone give me a tip on what I should spend my gold / blue stuff ?
Also I started with a necromancer deck and I'm getting my ass kicked in the last campaign.
Only real option would be customize your deck asap. A few of the default cards are kindof terrible. But you don't REALLY get easy access to better ones.
Another thing is, there are promo codes everyone should use, for quite a few free cards.
Duel of Champions Codes Redeem for Free Cards
Having been playing this heavily for 2+ weeks now, I can give some thoughts on my experiences. I also started with necro, and had to replay some of the campaign missions multiple times before winning. The necro starter deck is probably the weakest of the three due to very poor spell selection and weak creatures. That said, after the addition of some of the great necro commons, necro is probably the best against other starter decks. Necro does struggle again at the very high end since the top decks are either extreme rush, or extreme control, neither of which does necro do well.
As for what to buy, first of all absolutely do not waste your wildcards on anything other than crafting epics (orange cards). Crafting a specific hero with wildcards is ok, but make very sure it's the hero you want since they are expensive. The game is a bit of a trap in that when you start, you get flooded with a ton of gold/seals through one time achievements, beating the campaign, and fast leveling at the low end, which may lead to spending them without much planning. Thing is though, after that early rush of rewards, it slows down dramatically and wildcards / purchases come much less often (unless you spend cash).
As a necromancer, your first wildcard purchase should probably be Atropos, unless you happened to get him from a pack. He's a staple in just about every necro deck. To get the best value for seals, you want to buy the champion box first, but it costs 3000, and earning 3000 seals with only the starter cards would be extremely hard, so that's only really viable if you spent some cash. Just "The Box" is a common first seal purchase to get a base of cards to start with.
For gold, as a necro, you probably want to buy packs from Herald of the Void. One of the best necro creatures is Decay Spitter, and Soul Consuming Lich is a great frontline blocker that is hard to kill. Adar-Malik is one of the strongest necro heros as well. All of these cards come from Herald of the Void packs.
Edit: Another option as necro is to save up 125,000 gold for the pre-built Arrianna deck. She's a rare necro hero, and her deck comes with a few great cards like puppet master and soulreaver, along with just about all of the base set standard creatures you need like vampire knights and neophyte liches. If you didn't spend any gold, you could afford her deck by around level 7-8ish.

Better Red than Dead...
I started playing this about a week and a half ago. I too started as Necro. But I jumped ship pretty quick. They were heavily discounting the Inferno Starter deck when I started (was only like 32,000 gold) So I bought that. I should have doubled up and just bought two Inferno Decks at that price as you can make a halfway decent Garrant Rush Deck using those cards. That is what I am playing right now. I spend my first 1200 seals on a herald of the void box And most of my gold has been split between Herald of The void and Reinforcement packs. There are still a lot of good cards in the Vanilla set.
Don't be like me...
I burned my wild cards on shoring up a few of the cards I really needed to get my Rush deck going. That was a bit of a mistake. There is a limit of 4 copies of any one card per deck. So any more than that is a waste unless you REALLY want to have multiple decks saved and ready to go. There are some good cards that aren't legendary (Orange, whatever) however, that lots of decks take advantage of. Pao Death Seekers come to mind.
Don't be in a rush to push your ELO above 1000. I think you can get locked in at that point and it becomes a lot harder to duel lower rated players. This can lower your win rate, and bonuses considerably. I crashed my own ELO down a few hundred points when I started to get close just to prolong my stay in the noobie leagues.
Check out the achievements under your personal page. It's worth it to be aware of what they are and what the rewards are. Most of them will unlock through normal play. But some take special consideration. Like winning a duel with a 209 card deck. Probably a good idea to try for that one before going over 1000 ELO.
Keep your Deck to 59 cards. 1 hero, 8 events, and 50 Creature Spell and Fortune cards. The most efficient decks stay at the minimum number of cards with multiple copies of a handful of cards. This increases the chances that you will get the card you need when you need it. The only weakness you have with this is against decks that try to make you "deck out", but I haven't really seen anyone playing a deck like that.
Campaign in my ass...
For the campaign. When I got to the second battle in the Wolf Soldiers campaign I had a lot of trouble with that fight. Ultimately I just forced him to deck out. I packed my deck with cheap creatures and just kept filling the ranks until he ran out of cards. Other than that I don't remember having too much difficulty in the Orc Campaign, and came back and finished the rest of the Wolf Soldiers one after I made the switch to Inferno.
Stay focused on doing damage to the other Champion, don't get side tracked into killing every creature they put out. It's great in the beginning to nix any early creatures they play to give yourself more momentum. Then if you have managed to get a healthy HP lead over them, you can just bully them down and leave yourself open while they try hard to block you. A lot of the upper tier decks take a while to get going. If you haven't managed to kill them before then, you probably wont. I have gotten shut down a few times when the enemy champion was at less than 5 hp. So frustrating.
My upper tier deck is now just an Upper Decker...
There is a new expansion coming out in the relatively near future? So everything in terms of meta games and deck building is going to go out the window for a while when that happens.

I can't use the same cards in different decks ? What the fuck ?!
Got 1400 seals, thinking of saving up to 1900 for the forgotten box discount (from 2400). Already got Adar-Malik, 2 x decay spitters and 1 soul consuming lich.
I really can't get enough of this game. Started out as Inferno and kept modifying it and adding cards as I went, got up to 1k rating very quickly. However, stalled pretty bad at this point. Whenever I would get above 1100ish or so, would get stomped down. Have been doing better as Haven, but was having some issues getting all the cards I needed. Also been messing around with a nothing but creatures Ishuma deck which is really fun.
I do wish it had an "arena" type mode like Hearthstone. My one issue with this game is that sometimes you want to step away from the tight competitive decks and mess around with a draft format. Right now it doesn't offer that.
Similar to what others have said I am enjoying this over Hearthstone but keep in mind that I have only just finished the campaign. I have played Magic since Revised and over all I have not been one for constructed and enjoy limited far greater. Any word if there is a draft or sealed type event coming down the pipeline?
Alright bit weird question but should I be opening the early packs? I picked the fire deck thing, it looks decent enough, I opened one pack and got a few more cards to switch the shit I didn't like. Still have 2 packs, but I noticed there isn't an actual opening thing or pack selection, are the packs already selected to be only a certain type, or can I for example unlock one of the expansion shit then open them for a chance to get expansion cards?
Also thanks to this thread I found out there was a campaign, shit's not obvious at all, there's the tutorial but it never drops you back on the campaign screen to select the real campaigns and I forgot it even was there after doing the tutorial.
im not sure what you mean?
If you have packs yeah. open them. no reason not to.
In the "cards and decks" tab, open packs is down in the bottom right. no you can't pick and choose, which you want to open. they just open one at a time.
There are certain types yes.
you can look in the marketplace to see.
Small pack is not cost effective. but you might get one or two from achievements.
it will have 2 cards from the basic decks. (not sure if you can get heros)
Reinforcement pack is the one you should be buying most early.
it is 12 cards. 8 common, 3 uncommon, 1 rare/epic. From the basic decks.
Heroic pack. costs more then reinforcement.
1 hero from base set. 2 common from that heros faction. 1 uncommon from that faction. +random cards. 1 hero/7cards total.
Void risings gives 12 cards from the First expansion. Void rising. same common/etc ratio as reinforcement. Chance for heroes with each random.
Herald of the void. same deal. Second expansion.
Forgotten wars, same deal Third expansion. Costs seals.
In order to buy cards from the alter of wishes, you need 100 cards of that expansion. so you need 9 packs of Void rising, in order to use wildcards to buy void rising cards. (not sure if dupes count)
"premium packs" are just "foil" cards. not even as fun and animated like heartstone. really not worth it.
Well my question was that you need cards from the expansion to be able to get them with the altar and I was wondering if having cards from the expansion would let me get expansion cards out of the reinforcement packs they gave me, but I guess they're just set as normal packs from the start so they always give vanilla cards.
Doing the campaign but the death decks are pretty fucking retarded, server going down so will try again after.
Btw the daily it says it gives better rewards if you wait, but for the 3rd say it does +1 gold? Is it fucked up until you get to the last day(which has a seal icon so I guess it gives seals then)? I've been saving them for now since I wasn't sure and don't mind logging in once a day anyway.
ah then no. Emelio's pack is random from basic, and first 2 expansions though. costs more per card though.
gold boost, not one gold. (x2 or x.5 gold for 5 games iirc dont remember which.)
You get like 60-75 seals for the final day.
Also resets at 7pm eastern btw.

Ah great I picked the right time to start playing, 2days before they remake the decks.
how the heck does melee shooter work? haha. wonder what will have that tag and thematically make sense.
I see there's gonna be new starter decks. I'm level 5 or 6, is it worth rerolling ? I wanna do it for the alienware code as well (120 cards if your uplay account is less than 6 hours old).
says it can be placed in front row and back row. And yeah, benefits from things that boost melee and shooter.
As for the Alienware code that no longer works sadly.
I have no idea about new decks but theres a few different strategies I've seen for getting started. (PS Always grow your daily rewards out to the full week, you can get over 100 seals sometimes (I got like 130 once).
Some day use your seals and buy gold/xp boosts and just power your way up to level 10,15,20. Those milestones give a lot of gold/cards. Then once you are there can worry about spending your amassed seals now that you sorta know what you want from opponents smashing you. (Don't rush up ELO early, just puts you at a wall at 500 and 1000 ELO vs decks that will clown on you.)
The other is just depending on the deck you are trying to play, focus early on buying reinfocement packs for the base set, or for certain factions, buying box/packs of the newest void. If you are really patient it's more cost effective to save up to get the 1000-3000 seal box's especially on special. Don't run multiple accounts because you'll just end up with awesome orange cards all split out and you can't decide which account to love on.
It is quick enough to blaze a new account through campaign and grind multiplayer to hit like lv 5 and have enough for a box or two, and keep doing that until you get an account that had a good draw from the boxes. (IE the right rares/legends that are for the faction you'd like.)
The forgotten wars I think will be gold not seals for packs after todays new expansion release.
After reading patchnotes... damn despite being lv 9 and a lot of time into one account, I may have to try these new starter decks. (Better versions of the existing, + sanctuary starter deck <3.) Sanctuary is really strong and kinda FOTM with crazy creature abils, I hadn't made a deck as I hadn't unlocked void in the wildcard area yet and hadn't drawn many of their cards for shit to even begin to have a deck.
I think I'm going to start over as well. I started as necro, but I'm not a fan of how necro creatures are overall slow / low dps. I also wasted my entire collection of 50+ wildcards crafting commons/uncommons for necro before I realized how terrible of an idea that was. Think I'm going to reroll as inferno, and make much more informed purchasing decisions this time.
Made a new account and managed to log in, they redid the tutorial you can now play games against the AI to test the decks out before you pick, also there's Stronghold now as a starting deck. Sanctuary and Academy are both locked though, can't pick them as starting decks. Think I'll go Inferno again it looked cool enough when I tried it before. Looking at the cards though they added some stuff from the previous expansions, there's a bunch I hadn't seen before. I think the small icon in bottom right corner is the set the cards are from right? Have some little crowns and some others so I guess it's the first 2 expansions.
Yeah all the starting decks were upgraded with cards from base, void rising, void herald, and forgotten war sets. From first glance, it looks like the starter decks are all more powerful now as well. The free herald of the void pack code expired today, so can't use that on the new account, but I feel the new starter decks make up for it.
You'll like inferno early, but generally from forums seems to be one of the weaker factions at any competitive level. Apparently due to creatures stat allotments being used up by high retaliation with low hp, and generally less powerful specials. (Sweep seems amazing early on but playing for a while now most people avoid/negate it.)
well thats why it does have a good rush deck. those early sweeps. a couple dark assassins. ouch.
2/1/3 sweep, immune to retal is really strong for that mana cost.
2teleport, dispel, 3fire blasts good deck.
I keep wanting to put some fireballs, enchant weapons. zerk. card count starts adding up fast though.
I am not much of a fan of infernos higher cards yeah.
Pit lords etc terrible.

Not super enthused with boosted inferno, think I may take stronghold since I never had one. (Wish there was a sanct starter deck)
Dont forget to always do the tutorial for bonus stuff. This time around some other big bonuses "A special Gift" as well as 3 reinforcement packs.
This game is fun but I feel that the digital currency is too much. If it was priced, or had an arena mode, like Hearthstone, I think I would spend actual money on it.
Necro starter deck is boss. 9-3 with it right now, 200 elo, haven't lost to inferno yet.
Haven't tried this yet, but saw they released 5,000 more Alienware codes this afternoon:
I grabbed one to try this when I have some time, hopefully it's as enjoyable as people are saying here.
Only for new accounts 6 hrs or less old btw.
I think I'm around 1300 elo with about 200 wins total. Completely new to the genre but adapting fair enough. I run a fairly aggressive inferno deck; its funny early on I ran into issues with necro decks sub 1000 but after I revised my deck and got a better understanding and predicting their moves etc I usually destroy them. I'm still inconsistent against other decks, I just can't seem to string together wins at the higher ratings.
Also I run pharios or whatever his name as a hero. He was the first card I bought because I figured his forced sweep would be great. Even against people who try and protect against it I catch people sleeping especially using attack anywhere mobs or dropping the occasional quick hit mob and hitting a group he thought wasn't able to be sweeped. I'm sure at the true top levels of competition they would just slaughter my simplistic style but so far its gotten my noivce ass to a semi respectable elo. I did drop about 50 bucks on cards; mainly justified it since it was F2P and i was going to play as much as a 50 dollar game at least. Sadly I bought a few cards that I didn't need but looked uber (high resource cost inferno cards that i don't run ever now).
can't get the patcher to update, i think because i uninstalled IE.
Been playing this the past week or so. Fun game, certainly gives you the mtg fix. I have been trying to keep my elo below 501, for now. Even games I intend to lose, I will fight it out for a while. Typical losses can get me 400xp/gold, wins about twice that (no boosts.) Haven't dropped any cash, yet.
I've been playing a decent amount the last few weeks, up to lvl 27 and 1250 rating with my Adar deck. Just got the Decimator achievement (win 10 ranked duels in a row) going from 1175 to 1315 then proceded to lose the next 3-4 games to the worst hands you can imagine.
Still need another decay spitter, 2 fireballs, 3 soulreavers and some other stuff to complete my deck.
Past level 10 how slow is the leveling up with no boosts?
Was wondering the same. Should I be saving xp boosts for higher levels?
Actually the sooner you use them, the better. It's not like you earn more xp per game at higher levels, so it's no use saving them "for those slow levels". Most importantly is that you win when you have your boost active to optimize your gold and xp doubling. So use them when you are on a winning streak, f.i. because you have a good deck for the ELO you're at.
Edit: Here's a good article on the xp curve. Gold/Exp Guide | Forums

yeah, xp boosts are only good if you win.
So you might want to build a solid deck first, to some level. We aren't talking "ZOMG championship level deck only!". but one you are fairly confidant with.
And, you may wish to do the lose on purpose thing. Drop your elo down to 100 or some nonsense. then pop your boosts. same tactic for 10 wins in a row. or the 209 card deck win.
Finally grew to balls to try some Swiss tournaments and I've won 4 out of 5. I've been getting some amazing hands and managed rush most of my opponents by turn 7-10. Don't think I've used Malik's ability more than 5 times over 15 games.
The way they scale the game in full screen is fucking retarded and some faggot took my name so I'm godkzn ingame.
I felt invincible after winning so many swisses so I decided I'm gonna win the jackpot as well because who doesn't want a free box ? Anyway, long story short I got stomped big time, all 4 resource mulligans and shit like that. Ended with 10 rating after 20-25 matches.
Found a really nice software for game replays (yeah, it has that) and stats about your performance.
yet another tool, try it ! | Forums
You can clearly see the win streak and the bloodbath that was my jackpot attempt then back to rated games.
From the looks of it Sandalphon, Ishuma, Cassandra(2w/5l ouch) are kicking my ass, I'm 50/50 with Kelthor, Garant, Dhamiria, Gazal and beating everyone else.

This isn't in beta anymore right? Might have to have somebody change thread title to get more to fire this one up.
Just started playing this but feel a little lost. Anyone have any advice for best starting deck etc? I chose inferno but it seems extremely weak.
Most recent expansion changed starter decks, and let you even pick stronghold, which you couldnt before.
I started before, so Im not entirely sure what is in the current starter decks.
previously, I heard haven was a bit weak. as it required some higher teir cards, that weren't really provided to do well.
Inferno was asserted to be one of the stronger starters.
And its fairly easy to see why.
Garrent rush is strong. Teleport, a dark assassin or 2. the 2 cost 2/0/3 sweep minions. And some lilium. Very fast board control. and damage. Teleports to dodge with dark assassions will win all sorts of games.
MMDoC.net | Show deck
Here is an example of a garrent deck. as you can see most of the cards come in the starter deck.
You will want to edit your deck asap though. get rid of the campfires, some of the other terrible fortune cards that were in there.
Fireblast good. Fireball is too high.
That is probably the key you need to learn quick. something this game has, that others don't.
The str, magic, and fortune stats. This is an extra layer of progression that other tcg don't have.
Putting a 6 might pit lord, a 4 magic fireball, and 5 fortune card in the same deck is a very bad idea.
at turn 3, you MIGHT have 4 resources, and 4 magic for that fireball to be cast. But if you do, that means you didn't level up your str stat. so you can't be playing a 3 resource creature.
If built wrong, you will be in that situation alot. you need that fireball, and have the card, but are at 6 str, 3 magic, and 3 fortune, on like turn 10.
So balance it out.
You probably want to pick two. and cut the other out entirely. With garrent, cut out fortunes almost entirely. maybe 1 or 2.
thanks a lot for the help. It helped a great deal and that site is nice!
I started out playing this trying to find a fix to replace MMO's that doesn't require the stringent time demands (raid schedules etc) but still provides some challenge and staying power. I started heartstone, LOL, DOTA2, and this all in the same week or so.
DoC was the clear down winner for me which was surprising since I am new to the CCG genre and their isn't any direct action involved (you get accustomed to "getting out of the fire"). There are endless possibilities, the meta game is always changing, and the community is great. I have played probably 700-800 games and literally only was talked shit to in one game; its great!
After 6 or so weeks of playing sparingly I am up around 1300-1400 elo most days now that I got a better grasp on the mechanics of a CCG etc. I've finished as high as 59 out of 9800 in the jackpot, was 1 health away from being in the top 15 or so. I struggle more at swiss though for some reason....I get 2nd almost always but sadly until yesterday after winning 3 in a row I had never won one....
I started my first big push with a nasty little Adar removal deck but transitioned into a Kelthazor (sp) build that it is very competitive as it provides solutions against so many types utilizing magic removal and an onslaught of well positioned creatures. The sarahar brutes (sp) combined with removal spells is one of the hardest snowballing combo in the game. I've been down 4 health to 20 before and won 1-0 because of dual brutes and clearing there board with magic combined with Kelth's native ability. Its just an extremely diverse deck while remaining a strong focused attack deck)
Then came the rush of stupid lock out fortune decks again which irritate me to no end and can cause problems (I need to improve how I play against them as I never played one myself so I'm shakey on the mechanics but its still just a bitch). Sooooo.....daddy has made up his own modified deck that I haven't seen any of the higher elo players using yet. I'm still refining it but basically its the more traditional Kelth 4/4/1 deck (good one is the one with only brutes for blood thirst, no enrage guys) in which I throw out some of the high hp creatures and a few low resource ones for 8 more creatures with quick attack.
They are low attack but they leverage my other tweek to the standard deck, I put in 4 war tents. I've won more games in the past with 2 war tents then I can count. It turns the deck more into a targeted approach of basically getting them into position for an onslaught of damage all at once that allows me to deal with fortune decks and good removal/control decks.
The trick is to have a few war tents down and have some quick attack mobs saved up including the one with swift attack as well as a PDS or two and a fireball. You can drop the swift/quick attack guy for 4 damage, move him, PDS for 5 damage, fireball him, and drop another PDS for 5 more plus if you have another tent down hit it with the 1 resource 0 attack quick attack create. Throw in week of the mercanciers to that combo and you have basically a 1 shot kill later game. Lots of flexability as well for board clears with the move all targets + fireball, or forbidden flames plus it still uses 90% of the traditional deck so you still dominate most matches that you already won before.
I'll try and post the deck when I get time, I may still make some tweaks but its mainly designed for the high level elo where a few of those 1400-1500+ have freaking decks that its almost impossible to take down without a perfect draw+ timing with the traditional deck.
My only bitch about the game is the fortune based decks. I'd like to see it strongly supplement creature based gameplay. Instead you have a few of these decks that you literally don't get to hit the person for 13+ turns and then they 1 shot you etc. And yes...there are certain ways to help improve your odds but with such tightly controlled decks you just can't sacrifice alot of card space just to beat one type of oppontent. I already run 4 week of taxes which I rather not.
Anyways, great game, i'd strongly encourage anyone to try it out. One thing I didn't understand until a week or two in, DO NOT stack your decks with all sorts of cards. After I thought about it, even though your initial thought is "It gives me more options!"; ultimately it just adds variability and randomness which is not a good thing. I'm sure this is common thinking to long time CCG players but for me it took abit to understand. After I made a switch from a 100+ card deck to a 50-53 creature+spell+building deck, my winning % jumped dramatically. So pick a strategy, and try to be good at that. Do not run a large amount of cards to deal with all situations or you will lose more often then not.
Ingame name is Turbo-Fangz, took a 150 elo beating trying to experiment with a real crazy deck before I decided to try my modification deck which is having good success so should be back to 1400 this weekend. Friend me if you are starting and want some advice (not an expert by anymeans but i've learned alot lately. Was 1800 out of the 900k or so users prior to my "experiments..."
Last edited by Turbo; 01-02-2014 at 08:58 PM.
I think fireball is actually a strong card in an inferno rush deck. It's unplayable for the first few turns, but it can clear a path for you to finish if the game goes into turn 7+. You also have the option of including a few of the magic channel creatures to let you use your heavy magic earlier. Void Arbiter is a card I really like in my inferno deck. It has magic channel 2, and blocks control decks from their massive card draw.
It honestly doesn't really matter until you start cracking packs. When you get to 1k seals buy "The Box" with the first set and then look on a website to see what cards you want the most from what sets and then use your gold to buy only that set. Most likely after you get everything from the base set it will be the 2nd set you will want to get. The 1st expansion has so much of the blue expansion faction that it isn't worth it. Make sure to do a search of all the promo codes as you get a bunch of packs that way.
Also if you start creeping towards 500 ELC (you rank) concede a bunch of games at the start until your back down. Once you get past 500 that is the lowest you can go so try and get a decent deck going before you go past that mark. Do the same at 1k ELO etc.
The main exception to this advice is Pao Deathseekers. Buy 2-3 of them as soon as possible, more games are won with PDS then probably any card in the game. They are a 3/1 quick attack that destroy themselves. Late game usually its a war of attrition so getting a key creature kill and then punching through with your PDS wins more then naught. Also you can get tricky and save multiple ones until you are in stricking distance and then play 1, do damage, kill it with a fire or cheap attack, and play another. Combine that with a +1 etc event/buff and you can take 30 to 50% of someones life with just 1 opening. I just fully started realizing the potential of this and it works like a charm. Also dark assassins are pretty safe bets to buy a few of, in many rush decks they are critical, 4 damage out the gate is tough to deal with for some decks.
If you are new and want to spend money / seals on the game go for the Road to Paris deck at 1750 seals (you get 4 Dark Assasin / 4 Pao and other goodies) or the Champion DLC Pack thingie from steam for 55$ that gives you a box from each expansion and base set.
Also try to get an alienware code from
They seem to be out now but they "refill" it all the time.
Really enjoying this game now that I've been into for a couple weeks. My decks still have a long way to go, but it's a fun game. Sadly my Inferno deck seems to be my strongest right now. I'm trying to get my Stronghold to be more competitive, but am just not getting good cards. Necropolis decks seem to be the strongest I go up against.
Necro is just annoying with all their poison guys. Take that and the hero who kills someone with a counter on them and it gets nasty.
I prefer adar malik over ariana. The fire spells are very powerful. You can clear the board so many different ways. I am having a hard time whittling the deck down to 59 tho, sitting at 66 right now.
Apparently the thing to do is get as many wildcards as possible. Thus, I only buy premium packs with gold, and a couple 5 tower boxes. Once you start to spend those wildcards, your deck starts dominating.
I really want to play this game but I cant. I've tried it on two computers, it just freezes as soon as I start the exe. Is this game exclusive for Win 7 or something ? I have only old computers with Win Xp. Can anyone think of a solution for me ?
I'm pretty much burned out. I've reached lvl 50 with a max of 1407 ELO and 280 JELO. Still got 4k seals banked waiting for a decent sale to try to make new decks and maybe get some more games in (still wanna win a jackpot).
How the hell did you get 4k seals? Did you buy them or do you just get that much from leveling up?
Leveling up. Since I started playing I bought 1 x The Box, 1 x 5T Box and the Road to Paris deck.
There was a stream today announcing a lot of info about the new base set coming out soon for the game. To summarize, they are splitting the game into two formats, open and standard. Open is basically legacy, all cards allowed. The new format being added is Standard, which has a lot of cards banned. You can select which format you play.
Some examples of cards being banned from Standard play are Pao Deathseeker, Dark Assassin, Wolf Captain, Kelthor, Ishuma, Adar, Sandalphon, etc. Basically any card that was considered very strong is banned from Standard format.
I'm kind of annoyed at the announcement because I just spent a bunch of wildcards on cards that are being banned. I will still be able to use them in legacy format, but no one will play legacy aside from the "ultra rich" players with the brokenly strong decks (which I certainly don't have).
I still haven't played another game since my last post. I do login daily for my reward and checking the shop for a decent sale. My main decks were Crag Hack and recycle Adar.
Kinda shitty of them to sell the Road to Paris deck that had a ton of banned cards, not to mention the Ishuma alternate alt. I do love the changes, no more mill, no more prison, awesomesauce. Raya not banned fucking blows and I might go Sanctuary just for that.
Currently sitting on 40k gold, 4.3k seals, 37 swiss tickets and 65 wildcards. Should be enough to get me any deck I decide to play.
edit : did they say when this expansion is going to hit ?

While I actually don't mind them adding Formats, what annoys me is they basically gutted every type of deck except midrange creature. Main draw of the game to me was it allowed control style decks that I enjoyed from my Magic days, now that's totally gone. Only thing I can figure is they listened to the whiners complaining about control decks, and moved the game towards Hearthstone, problem is, why play DoC when Hearthstone is clearly superior if you are just looking for a game where you bash creatures against each other.
I agree somewhat Kanglor about control decks should be a viable option. DoC though did take it way too far. When you can be in a match where you literally take 12 turns in a row where you can do absolutely nothing but sit there completely locked down by a deck running and recycling 4x altar of shadows, stone shield, etc, while they take even longer to actually finish you off, it's just not fun.
I'm not in the least sad to see most fortunes being gutted. What I disagree with is that they also seriously limited your options with nukes. Now, if you lose board control early game, there will be limited ways to actually catch back up when you don't have things like fireball, sunburst, etc.
Air magic still has most of it's key spells in the new set. Lightning bolt, chain lightning, forked lightning are all sticking around. Prime as well is keeping most of it's good spells like town portal, time jump, void ripple. I'm thinking of playing Myranda in the patch. She's an air/prime 2/1/0 academy hero. Perfect stats for a strong early game supported by quick spells, with a great and cheap racial ability.
And note, i'm not saying you can't beat the decks above, its just not fun and you also in many cases have to really mess up your hands to carry a card just for 1 spec deck. I don't like the idea of all those bans personally, if it was me i'd just make alter of shadows, prison, and thrown of removal all unique cards and get rid of tower of oblivion. I'd also add another method or to to banish since its fustrating to have someone cycle multiple unique spells over and over (i do this with a few of my decks to be fair and its just not fair sometimes for the other guy).
Anyways, this was my real first cardgame i've tried and I really enjoy it in spurts. I'm sure i'll continue to play, every week or so i get a hankering and play heartstone and this in the same night and realize how much better this game is then heartstone but still sometimes am drawn to play heartstone because of the quick games and just kinda casual feel....help i'm being poisoned!
Some of those, like prison, are unique already. Making more unique won't really fix it, and could even make it worse in some decks. Being unique opens up a card to being able to be drawn on demand through things like magic peddler. So just because it's unique doesn't make it any harder to have in your hand when you need it. The bigger problem is that there's so many ways to bring cards from the graveyard back into play.
The idea of unique cards is a really solid. A nice bomb effect that can be game swinging. The problem is when you keep using that same bomb, over and over by bringing it back. A better solution in my mind would be once a unique card goes to the graveyard, it auto-banishes itself. Forbidden flame wouldn't be nearly as bad if it truly was only used once per game instead of 3-5.
I agree that certain 'control' type cards were probably too strong, ie Prison, and being able to recycle Uniques was also a problem. I never had the cards to play any of the Prison, Pillage, etc decks, I had just enough to get a functional mill deck, but it was never able to lock someone totally down, especially if they put in a few counters, ie Crushers, Kappas, whatever. If they had just tried making changes to specific cards, that would make more sense to me, this screams of panic at falling numbers and doing what so many other game companies do, try to chase what Blizzard is doing.
Oh well, maybe there are tons of people who quit because of all the 'unfun' decks with little to no creatures, and they will come back to support the game. I'd be highly surprised if it makes much of a difference, I think most of those folks already found that Hearthstone is a superior product in that regard.
Are they adding a draft mode and other ways to acquire cards? That is what they need to add, not fuck with the complexity.
Cleared a few games off my table.
And started playing again. well, I did play here and there previously still.
Broke 1k elo a little while ago. Bleh what a mistake. The ranking system is pretty terrible with that plateau. I broke 1k with an akane deck. My garant probably could have as well, if I wanted to just play that 1 deck all the time. But then I swapped. I wanted to try new things. and brick wall. went like 1-25 with nob0ru. and it wont let me drop down. eventually just deleted the deck, after deciding, I just didn't have enough cards for a real strategy with him. 2 of this, 2 of that, just doesn't work at 1k+. And EVERYONE has 4 of every key card at 1k+. There is no spread in Elo there. its a brick wall. everyone that should be 800-900 is 1k, because they just needed to pass it ONCE, and got stuck there. Its just a mess.
Made an Alia, which is doing much better. not good. but not just loss after loss. 20-30% win ratio at best. Again, still a massively incomplete deck.
Just got a Hakeem today. my akane was some mill, with lots of spells.(duh.) I should be able to make a near full hakeem mill. which might be fun. I do like Academy.
Creature decks do seem a bit weak to me, past 1k. Too many board clears, and akanes with nukes that clear.
Base set 2 is real close. They have been teasing screen shots.
New campaign missions, new ranking, etc.
I'm so stoked for BS2, especially since they're hinting at adding tons of new campaigns.
As for elo, you can drop under 1k, it requires 10 losses in a row. The in a row part is the tricky thing, if someone gives up before you, the counter is reset, which makes it a headache.
Noboru was my only sanctuary hero for a while, so I used him lots when I played that faction. Honestly, his spell schools don't complement each other very much, and eventually I just bought the pre-made deck to get Yukiko, and have better results with her for sanctuary. The sanctuary hero I really want is Shalan, even though he's not "tier 1" but building bounce decks looks like a lot of fun. I'm not going to spend 25 wildcards on him though, and my sanctuary cards aren't good enough yet to win a swiss to get him for free.
I'm up to level 57 now, so my card collection is starting to come together. I'd have more if I grinded tournaments, but I dislike the tournaments so I only really play ladder.
Yeah, Im level 15 now, was 13 when I hit 1k. which probably gives an idea of my point of, "ffs, My decks aren't remotely fully realized enough to compete"..
Is that 10 in a row confirmed? I see some random players saying 10-20.
I havent even tried a tourney yet. I doubt its even worth it without said solid deck?
Looks like most of the people reading here already read the base set 2 stuff. But linking the faq, and one of the card lists.
Base Set Two Card List - Feedback Thread Event | Forums
Base set 1 decks are being removed from the store.
Expansions like, void rising, herald of the void etc. will still be in the store for a period of time. to be retired, one at a time, as new expansions are added.
All base set 1, and expansion cards will still be available from the alter.
No new art for base set 2.
No new CARDS for base set 2.
No real reason to save gold when you consider this.
Achievements tied to base set 1 are being removed as well.
No News on draft yet. :/ seriously, really missing.
I went above 1k early on for the achievement of doing so, for the 50,000 gold. Like you, it was a nightmare so I dropped down. I can confirm at least for myself it was exactly 10 in a row, but it took me like 20ish as well because after like 4 someone would just quit right away and reset my counter, which is what probably happens to people saying it took 20 losses.
There's two kinds of tournaments, alternating each day. There's jackpot tournament, which is free to enter. When you play a jackpot game, you have a seperate elo, starting at 0 that's only for that day's jackpot tournament. You are matched up against other people based only on your tournament elo for the day. The games are normal duels, with the only difference is after the game, 80% of your gold earned from the match is instead put in the "pot". After the jackpot ends, the pot is divided among tiers. Tier 1 gets a huge amount of gold, on average something like 65,000? Tier 2 gets less, etc down to tier 5. If your deck is strong, you can make ok gold, but if you don't win lots, it's a total waste to play in jackpot because all you will end up is an 80% penalty on your earned gold for the day and nothing from the pot. Another stupid point is that games played in jackpot ALSO fluctuate your actual elo, so if you're trying to stay under 1k, and get matched against a 1600 player during the jackpot and happen to win due to dumb luck or insane draw, you will gain like 200 real elo.
The other tournament is Swiss. Swiss tournaments require a ticket to enter. Swiss will queue up 8 players together, then there's 3 rounds of games. If you go 3-0, you win the swiss, which gives a free premium pack of the latest expansion. Second place gets a normal pack of the latest expansion. Then, of the 6 other players that lost, 1 emelio pack is randomly given out, but to qualify you have to have played all 3 games without dropping out. There's also one time achievements for lots of prizes for your first time winning swisses. Each faction has a unique hero you get for your first swiss win (such as Shalan for sanctuary, wtb), and a bunch of gold for your first ever win. Finally, one other difference is games in Swiss have a timer of 7 minutes. During your turn your 7 minute timer is ticking down, and during your opponents turn, their 7 minute timer is ticking down. If one of your timers runs out, you instantly lose the match. So you need to be able to play fast, and very slow stall decks are usually less viable as a result.
Now, because Swiss wins are the absolute best source of wildcards, the best of the best players farm them frequently, and if your deck can't beat things like Spell Kelthor, Ishuma rush, Hakeem mill, Dhamria control, Sandalphon lock, etc, it's usually not worth bothering with swiss. You do still at worst have a 1/6 chance per tournament for a free emelio pack even if you go 0-3, but meh. Because the contestants in swiss are just first come first serve, unrelated to elo, you do sometimes get 8 players that are all not top tier, and you can win. I've won a swiss tournament once, and both early games were against clearly newer players, and the final round I was playing Adar vs a crag hack rush, which I was heavily favored to win, even though the crag was a 1600 player. Here's the replay of the final game if you're interested: Replay :: Sinzar vs Delmar_v | MMDoC King
A final point:
In base set 2, packs will only contain legal cards from base set 2. So, if you plan on swapping to standard format, you will get more value to save gold and buy post-patch, since packs bought pre-patch will contain half or more of cards that are being banned in standard format. No real reason to save gold when you consider this.

Heart of Nightmares - Gameplay Talk #1 | Forums
A neutral angel.
Light aligned and Angel tags as well.
Creatures will start having schools. Vampire, Angel, orc, etc.Starting with Heart of Nightmares, you’ll have new gameplay directly tied to a specific creature type. We’re also adding school types to creatures, both existing and new.
Not all creatures have a school type, only the most powerful ones, or ones using school-specific abilities. Those creatures don’t require you to play a specific school to play them; it just adds more depth to their gameplay.
Short version. "Light aligned" means she can only be played in a deck with a light casting hero.the magic school referenced in the title (here it's "Light - Angel") means that the damage from that creature will be of that school. If you are using protections against a certain school of magic, then damage from a creature of that school of magic will be affected by the protection.
The word "aligned" in the description (here it's "Light alined") means that you can only play that creature if your hero uses the same magic school. In this example it means that you can only play Anael with heroes that use the Light magic school.
"Light" description next to angel, magic flyer, means she deals light damage.
Edit: corrected statements on" light aligned."

Wish they would space the expansion abit; mainly because I have been crafting a few BS2 sets and playing them against the current meta and still doing alright. Made it to 1350 using strictly BS2 cards. I have a fleshbane & acamas that both have very strong but different approaches that I think will destory in BS2.
I haven't had time this last week to mess around or read forums but are the new expansion cards going to be played to some extent in BS2 or is BS2 strictly going to be the defined cards they have communicated?
I am pretty sure all the new expac cards will be playable in season2.
Yeah the new expansion and all future expansions are BS2 legal. Until they make BS3 far down the road or something.
I've been trying to finish up a lot of the achievements that are going away before the patch. The big one I'm trying to do is the win a swiss with each faction achievement. So far I've won with Necro, Stronghold, and Sanctuary.
I have 0 wolf captains, so I don't know how I'm going to win a swiss with haven. I'm missing way too many of the cards for garant gate and dhamiria, so don't know how I'm going to win with inferno either. My academy card pool is ok'ish. Missing too much to run a mill deck, but I think I can take a swiss with Hakeem control, maybe. Tried twice so far and both times died to rush.
Yeah, I'm not even close to most of those BS1 achievements, so not going to bother.
I thought I found Inferno fairly cheap/easy to get a solid rush.
Lots of options, not really dependent on ONE specific card. Only really gate, but even that. Gate is strong, but not GG. Just build a fast deck. Gate lets you add some fatties in, and have them increase your win rates, not hurt it.
Maybe the gap between good, and winning a swiss is large though.
Then again, I have a gate, an abyssal lord, a hikyu, 5 enforcers, 8 lilium, 3 deathseekers, 2 dark assassins..
and yeah, got my 20 wins with a void rising haven, and 30 with Haven achievements with Alia. ugh, though. such a pain.
I dropped out of 1k finally too, doing it. Amusingly, went in total freefall. I made changes to the deck, and they only seem to make it worse. Even at like 800 rating, was only getting like 10% at best win ratio with her. haha.
Haven man. jeez. It DOES need specific cards it seems. wolf captains...
So playing Necro now.
Nergal. I do have seria too. but, he seems fun. I did it more on whim, but I do totally have might of nature. which is one of those cards that just changes the game.
so, have a namru channeler(just 1), atropos, damran.
6-8 games later, I have to decide if I want to lose on purpose to stay under 1k. (2 of the people I beat were 1068, 1100something, and lost to a 1500 hakeem, 3-5)
Are poison counters earth damage?
looking at the deck/library atm. I have greater earth elemental. earth heal.
I only have 1 insect swarm atm. but already insect swarm+might of nature is a ridiculous combo. 3 damage to all creatures. 1 damage to that melee row..
Currently have 2 ghost dragons in the deck.. which have nice effects.. but yeah, fatties are so hard to make use of.
Swarm should outright heal that earth elem, though. And swarm from others is something that hits alot. Dhamira's especially.
Think im going to pull those ghost dragons out, and try that earth elem.

Poison counters are physical damage, not earth. Incorporeal halves it, magic resist does nothing. Necro is by far my favorite race to just farm wins for gold on ladder. Nergal though is a little meh. Ariana is superior in almost every way. Superior starting stats, the same spell schools + dark as well (and dark is amazing). Her racial is nicer also. Here's my Ariana deck. I'd recommend if you like Nergal, you try Ariana. Downside is that Ariana is a reward hero, so you can't get her in packs. You either craft her (21 wildcards), buy her pre-made deck (125,000 gold), or finish her achievement (own 5,000 cards). I just saved up the gold and bought her deck, since it also comes with puppet master, time jump, and 2 arch liches, all of which I needed and would have had to craft anyway, so it was a good deal.
Fatty creatures are great in some scenarios, but terrible in others. Dark magic users are the worst to use fatties against. You spend 8 mana to drop a ghost dragon and they just soulreaver it, wither it, or far, far worse, they steal it with puppet / enthrall. Most primal users will just town portal it back to your hand for only 3 mana. Most fortune decks will just broken bridge it.
The best decks to use a fatty in are those decks where you can protect it. Water or light magic users are easiest since you can make them untargetable with ice armour / elrath's protection, though that won't help against broken bridge and in fact makes it even more painful to get bridged since now you also lost your buff card. Water magic at least can also strength of the sea, which makes friendly units fortune immune. SotS + ice armour on a ghost dragon in a seria deck would be basically GG!
