I'm so ready for this game.
I don't think it's anywhere near being done. I would guess fall/winter this year unfortunately. Looks awesome from that clip though.
What they currently have looks great. I just hope you can actually go inside all of those massive buildings at release.
I play in spurts. Usually a few hours here or there until I inevitably get thunderdomed or whatever then I quit for a couple weeks.
Maybe I should actually get in on one of those private servers.
I will not stop until I find a ghillie and DMR. At the same time.
GD, the ambiance and feel of the world in DayZ is unparalleled, unadulterated brilliance.
And fuck you Hekotat. Mr. "I'm not going ANYWHERE NEAR THOSE CITIES".
I haven't played in months. All the hackers pretty much made most servers unplayable.
Is the hacking issue still nonstop shitty?
I played a few nights in a row earlier in the week without any issues, haven't been on since.
An easy to setup LAN server could be fun, kinda annoying that this can only be played online, even worse with all the hacks.
I hope the increased zombies and possibility of zombie herds/hordes makes it so griefers can't just snipe from tree line totally safe from any harm. That and hackers ruined this game for me. Oh and I know its about pvp survival but actual reasons for the community to band together would be nice, like trying to set up a town to be a safe haven for survivors to flock too, and then have it get attacked by waves of zombies in a co-op sort of way would be nice. I haven't read much about this new DayZ on Arma 2.5 so not sure if any of these things are being addressed or not.
Getting oneshot and people living through ridiculous amounts of bullets is everyday stuff for the ARMA2 engine. No, the "hacks" we are all bitching about are game ruining. Teleporting everyone on the map in to a spawned circle of buildings that you can't escape, forcing the entire server to dance without the ability to stop, spawning jets and other planes over and over, nuking towns, etc etc. I honestly am completely shocked you've played the game as long as you have without encountering at least some of that, because I can't put 3 hours in to a server without it happening.
As far as hacks are concerned, in the past three weeks or so playing largely on a combination of german servers and high pop american servers during primetime, I have been pleasantly surprised at the lack of hacks lately. Dunno if it was the recent stint of frequent patches that broke many of the commercially available hack suites or if I've just had good luck, but it's been quite some time since I've died by hack or been teleported.
I have, however, seen numerous people on the servers I frequent get booted for teleporting or global bans, so perhaps I'm just dodging the bullet.
If anyone wants to log on and get geared and help me find vehicles, PM me on here or hit me up on Steam at Jendryk2000
Next few weeks are going to be pretty crazy, if i get some time I'll hit you up.
i wonder if this will drop in the next few months like they say, havent played dayz but its something id like never had arma so i wouldent just buy it for dayz if a standalone is soon coming.

the idiot who plays blessed shield with no jenkebabobob or foote
It was on sale the other day for like 10 bucks, just wait for one of those sales if you're really interested in playing it and last I heard the stand alone was due out later this year.
Are the extra couple bucks for the complete pack worth paying for the ''improved graphics and textures''?
It improves most of the player models dramatically, but it's still a personal decision if the better graphics are worth more $$.
Hackers have moved on to the new engine, why bother with DayZ 1.0?
downloaded the dayz mod from steam, started arma 2 once then operation arrowhead once and now when I launch the dayz mod it says i have version 1.62 and most of the servers seems to have a more recent version...What do I need to do to play this now?
Well the server where I had all my tents hidden died and I got one shotted by something (never heard the gunshot, not sure if hax, bug, or silenced headshot). So I'm now gearless and noobified. Open to suggestions on a good new home server if anyone's still active.
Hmm this thread has piqued my interest again, especially if the hacking is less than it was before. Having issues with my mic, but maybe I'll play again next week for a bit. Think the last I played was October or November.
So where is everyone playing, or want to play?
I generally play on iSnipe because getting the DMR as the default loadout:
For anyone starting out or starting over and trying to gear up safely, a little tip: low pop euro servers off primetime. Specifically German servers. Play at night time (ingame).
I don't know what it is, but for some reason the DE servers seem to have vastly increased number of helicopter crash sites. I can remember on multiple occasions logging into random areas and having 3 or 4 crashes within 1500 meters of my position, sometimes even logging in to see 3 or 4 crash sites damn near adjacent to each other. I've found upwards of 20 crash sites in a four hour period on an old personal favorite, DE 24, which I didn't even think was possible. If you play at night and can deal with most servers being damn near pitch black, it's insanely easy to spot the crashes- they literally light up the skyline if you're anywhere within a thousand meters or so.
I'll be gone this weekend but if anyone wants to get down sometime next week let me know- if nothing else I need storage space for crash site loot that doesn't disappear due to server outages.

That looks/sounds fucking awesome. Is it always night or does it still have the day cycles?
Last edited by Agripa; 03-28-2013 at 07:33 AM.
Last I played (Months ago) nighttime was pretty much unplayable unless you had NV.
Nights in DayZ suck. Breaking Point is a bit better.
I loved nights when you could still somewhat see. Pushing the gamma to the max made it basically daylight though. I wish they'd nerfed it to something in between. And with faster day/night cycles to experience both within one play sessions. Although I think the dev once said they could not change it for some reason.
That fog looks really neat. In exteriors at least. Might just have to load Dayz again.
Yeah nights in Dayz were cool as long as there was a full moon out so you had at least some light. The pitch black shit other than stars was unplayable without night vision though. That mod looks like it does night time really really well though so you can still actually see some stuff.
I only experienced a full moon night a couple times :-( it was usually the pitch black, i can't see shit.
I actually liked the pitch black moonless nights in DayZ. Running around with your flash light, seeing other sources of light in the distance. People converging around flares knowing people where their but having no clue exactly where. Some of my best DayZ moments happened during night. Cheesing the gamma settings kinda ruined it though and I always thought they should have shortened the day/night cycle.
Played a little dayz today and there seems to be a lot more unofficial servers running cray cray rules
yea official servers are dying off like mad, mostly due to people waiting for the standalone. Some of the alternate maps are actually really good though. Give Namalsk a try if you're looking to play DayZ still. It's well done and a good time. God help you once a Bloodsucker finds you though.
Night does suck after gamma exploit fix, but it's playable if you've got a chemlight attached and run with a g17. Actually makes zombies somewhat dangerous, although I pretty much refuse to play with a geared character on a high pop server without NV at night due to the insurmountable disadvantage it places you in PVP without them. Regardless, running around the middle of the map and NWAF area is still hands down the best way to find multiple chopper crashes quickly.
Definitely looking forward to the Standalone. Have not played the DayZ mod, but loving what I am seeing as far as what they have in store for DayZ Standalone. In fact, didn't see this video linked in thread, so if you haven't seen it:

Haven't played the mod as I couldn't get past the shitty looking graphics/animations. I'm looking forward to the standalone though. A lot of pressure would be on these guys though I remember when you couldn't find a corner of the internet that wasn't sucking Day Z off.
Stand alone preview...?
Graphics were fine I thought. The UI/inventory were the only problems I had with the game and got used to that within a couple hours. You really missed out on one of the most incredible games ever made by not playing it.
The two guys I played with reinstalled it last week and started playing on the DayZ Origins mod. From what I understand it is fairly popular with a decent number of servers. It's a new map and has some other neat features that DayZ doesn't have. Anyone play that yet?

Cool! Hope you'll report back!
They are planning to launch the game the same way they did with Minecraft.
Never heard of the game until today, will definitely buy Alpha for $10ish.The DayZ standalone pricing model to be similar to Minecraft.
It’s been a little while since we’ve had really solid news on the DayZ Standalone front — partially because creator Dean Hall decided to spend a little time climbing a mountain. But now we have some news that anyone waiting on the game should be very interested in! What’s the pricing going to be like?
Well… We don’t know the exact price but what we do know is pretty good news. According to a Gamasutra interview: The DayZ standalone will be using a pricing model similar to that of Minecraft where those interested in playing the game have the option to buy the alpha at an extremely discounted price. Once the game enters beta, the price will go up some — Hall’s saying about $10 and then when the game goes live it will increase in price again — possibly another ten bucks.
This model worked out really well for Minecraft for a couple of reasons. One of which being it allowed people who supported the game early on to get a discount while being able to share their experience with friends and encourage them to get in early as well to get a good deal. I bought Minecraft in alpha due to that exact scenario.
So, when is Alpha?
It seems that for some lucky people, Alpha has already kicked in. Currently the team are doing what most of us would think of as the “friends and family” phase of testing and according to Hall, what they’ve done so far is: “gave free keys as a gift to the forum moderators, the Reddit moderators, people who helped out with DayZ development, and stuff like that.”
Hall estimates that there are somewhere between 30-100 people currently in Alpha.
For those of you looking to get into Alpha, it seems that you’ll want to start keeping an eye open for the announcement starting next month. However, don’t expect to see anything any sooner than that.
dayzgame.com is stating the Client/Server Architecture is functionally complete, and they will be doing a large scale test 5/29. I assume if that goes well, Alpha may be announced shortly after... well that is my hope anyway! :-D
I hope all the security holes are addressed in SP.
Been playing some DayZ Origins. It's really the same mod with extra features and a new map. The end game is a mix of a neat farming idea (having to fix a vehicle to sail or fly to a small island with great loot) that quickly becomes easily exploitable by the more hardcore player base (loot resets when servers restart, so unless you are part of group that camps there, your chance of loot is minimal).
A bit of story:
There is no hive in DayZ:O. So you have 1 character per server. I started a new guy so as to not die on the server where I team up with friends. My plan was to experiment with tents and house building. I rushed the spawn-town to find a lee enfield, M1911 and alice pack. Farmed some more for some morphine, PKillers, food, drinks and a tent. Rush then to an airfield (just one pass through) and found an AKM. Then I decided I would pitch my tent and start farming materials for car-repairs. The end gold was to get a car to be able to move the 45 or so mats needed for a house's foundation.
I guess I could have used the tent but I felt like the tent should be somewhat far and hidden while the vehicle could be used to transport my stock to the tent after each farming session. The car could stay with me and if I lose that/died it would only be part of the mats lost. Anyway... I got as far as finding a good spot for my tent and stumbled on someone else's car. It was not hidden at all and close to an industrial building so I quietly waited to see if anyone was coming back and forth. Seeing no-one I raided the trunk and found some kick ass weapons (FN FAL, PKP, an ACOG M16-or similar-) which I think can only be found in Sector B. I took one of each and hid those my my tent a few hundred feet away.
I got greedy and dropped all my gear in the tent and went back to the vehicle I'd found. It was pitch black night. Suddenly a guy shows up and rushes the car, with 2 Zs on his ass. He's in the middle of a plain basically and it takes him 5 minutes to kill the zombies. He did not run away he just sat there and somehow did not die. I was lieing down in the grass not 15 feet away. I could just barely make the outline of his sleeves in the dark. I don't like to kill on sight (I try to communicate first but don't have qualms murdering innocents if they're too slow to respond) - and because I had dumped everything I had in the tent I had no weapon to scare or kill him anyway.
So I'm just lying there, heart racing, wondering if he can see me. After a while the Z's are dead and he crouches near the vehicle - I assume checking the trunk. At this point I am wondering if it's his car. And -if it is- I figure that with that sort of weapon the guy is likely to also have NVGs - which would be a big deal. I cannot get up and run if he has those on. With Z's walking around and making noise I feel that I might be able to crawl to the car from the other side, grab a weapon in there, kill the fucker (fuck being nice if there's loot involved) and steal his theoretical NVGs. I do just that without him seeing me, I open the trunk and see that he just took out all the ammo. I assume he realized he got robbed and started emptying the trunk.
We are literally crouching a car-width away from one another at this point. My gear is in my tent and I have nothing to lose. Also I realize I did not dump everything I had. I turn on the "close communication" channel and just whisper "oh look, I still have my axe". I was laughing inside and feeling giddy. Of course it was still pitch black and the guy just ran like hell. I ran after him for a bit just screaming "murder" in the microphone. I'm still giggling just thinking about it. I never caught up with him though. In my head he pissed himself - and that's just as good as a pair of NVGs.
The rest of the story is less fun. I finished looting the car and took the stuff to my tent. I got started on my plan again, found some reinforcing material for the house and some parts for a car. After a couple trips I realize I cannot access my tent anymore. The tent is there but I cannot find any angle to get the "gear/inventory" to open. Since I was farming I was leaving everything in the tent to make as much room as possible - all my weapons, blood bags, painkillers, morphine, food & drink... Morphine.... I am trying everything: walking around the tent, running at the tent, backing up, turning around at weird angles... and, eventually, crawling around the tent.. I ended up, somehow, getting stuck under the tent and breaking my leg. You know. With all my morphine in the tent that I can no longer open?
At this point I'm a bit frustrated. I don't even mind losing all the weapons I stole from that other guy - that's just karma. But I am crawling and miles away from any spawn point or hospital. I have to either crawl for hours or kill myself. I did not want to kill myself so I started crawling. The nearest loot piles were in a fire station (which can spawn some morphine) so I went there. Zombies everywhere and day time at this point - but hey - I'm crawling anyway right? I get to the door and cannot fucking open the thing while prone. I have to get myself to a weird angle to get the option. I eventually find and select "open door" and the fucking thing opens on my face and tears my head to shreds. I am talking instant unconsciousness and bleeding out the ass. I think I am done for but I get back up a pixel before death. I am seeing flashes & stars, bandaging myself, shivering from the pain. No steak to heal myself, no buddy to transfuse, just the hope of finding morphine. Which I did not. And it took me a LONG time to just manage to crawl up stairs (DayZ does not like that apprently). I did find a stanag mag and went back to that car to steal one more gun so as to not completely defenseless (although aiming in my condition would be challenging to say the least).
When I logged out I was back in the open between the fire station and the nearest hospital. Crawling like a worm and falling unconscious for 10-20 seconds every 50 feet - with a ruined plan, useless tent, shattered leg and broken spirit.
Welcome to DayZ.

DayZ: Somehow the greatest and the shittiest game ever made.
DayZ is a blast if you have a decent group to play with. I usually play on the BMRF(http://bmrf.me/) servers they have a good community of people. You have to get whitelisted to play on them too, which gets rid of most script kids.
Still lots of weird shit happening if you log in/out while in vehicles though. And I have broken my leg 2-3 times in the last couple weeks just walking around so that bug's still in.
Always carry some morphine, right?

Reading about Dayz Is like reading Dwarf Fortress. Almost more fun to read about than play.
My best DayZ story was the one where it took days getting insane gear and had just spent an hour getting to this one location where I could pick people off in elektro. My plans were foiled when I stumbled upon a bicycle someone had hidden in the bushes. I didn't even think twice. I just hopped on the bike and ripped it through the middle of town - ringing the bell. People were taking shots at me the whole time, and I didn't care. I HAD A BIKE!
nice darwin story
Quick share - If anyone is using DayZ Commander there is a weird issue that basically crashes your internet connection (as far as I understand it actually crashes your router). If your connection goes out when you are refreshing server lists, you need to go in the settings and turn down the number of allowed connections. It will slow down the refresh somewhat but not to a terrible degree.
I always thought that it would be neat if you turned into a zombie for a period of time after you died.
New favorite DayZ story is headshotting a guy at 400 meters with an enfield and getting the kid's M107, DMR, full kit including rangefinder, coyote backpack, night vision, etc. etc. etc. Kid was threatening rape, murder, ban for supposed aimbotting and a call to the FBI. Still haven't figured out what the charges would be.
That, or getting in an epic battle above Stary, murdering successive waves of people coming back for the corpses, and the random noob who got blown up when he rode in on a tractor to try and collect all the loot after finding out about the battle. Poor little guy, he got so close.
Where are you playing these days wrath?
This took place outside of the SE section of the airfield on Fallujah. I am at the outer southern section. I was running to meet some friends that were already inside. I happen to come across some guys coming in from the southeast-east. I do have a DMR but they are about 800 meters away. I'm spotting for my team, telling my guys that we have two armed guys coming in. The enemy on point took out one of ours before he got taken out. I started approaching trying to spot the remaining guy.
I get close enough to see him prone on the south side of the sandbags at the entrance, completely protected from my team. He has no idea I have him flanked. I figure at this point I'm about 1k meters from him and have a ton of DMR ammo. As I'm shooting I keep re-adjusting my scope. Before long, my target is so far away any mildot I'm just guessing the area of the scope to compensate with. He cannot hear my gun due to the extreme distance. I hit him four times before he dies. Once it was safe I confirmed the distance, it was 1,200 meters, barely within render distance.
RoadWarriors US Epoch Server. It's the Cherno map with a ton of mods. Most notably, the roving AI squads and NPC traders that sell vehicles, so the clans can't maintain an absolute monopoly on transportation. The vehicles you buy with money you make from selling various loot are locked when you're not with them, so if you haven't tagged someone as friendly they can't steal your shit. Also added a shitton of armed vehicles, including armored SUV's with cannons (!!). 50 person server that's normally pretty high pop, but on a private hive with decent admins. Groups of 3 or more people can actually talk to the admins to get a custom base, though I'm not sure how exactly it works. Bunch of random stuff added besides, mainly barracks added to NEAF, extra hangers at balota, and markets/fire stations at some of the smaller towns not on the coast.
It's a great server, and the roving AI's mean you're not forced to hit up stary/fire stations/airfields for military loot- they can carry anything from winchesters to SVD's and coyote backpacks, but still provide a decent challenge. Really gives new spawns a better chance. Nowadays we've been spending a lot of our time just wandering the map, hunting enemy AI squads that can spawn anywhere, and looking for vehicles. Let me know if you wanna get in.

How does the PKP compare to the DMR at longer range?
**PKP might be origins only? Can't remember.
Wouldn't know about the PKP though, I've never played origins and never used that weapon in game before. The DMR seems to me a very skill-dependent rifle, and one that works best if you have a firm grasp on its ranging and milldot system, but the rate of fire along makes it very attractive. Then again, you probably already knew that.
I will say that AS50's are fairly common, but most of the people you'll find carrying them can't shoot for shit. Like, missing 300 meter stationary shots multiple times. All my sniper deaths to date have come from DMR shots at 400 meters or less on epoch servers. Pretty sure the thermal rifles will be removed again after the server updates to the new DayZ and epoch patches.
For those of you considering a return, I submit to you this as evidence. Start at 11:33.

These vids never get old. I always wonder if they are real but really it doesn't matter.
Big DayZ patch coming out on Monday, lots of great changes and fixes coming. Sadly it'll probably be a while before the likes of Origins/BP/Taviana/etc see the changes since they use their own modified DayZ files.
nice to know the gigantic m107 stash i've got is going to finally pay off.
oh yeah, and Epoch already released a giant patch, just waiting for my home server to update. it's supposed to fix a ton of bugs and issues with NPC trading. Epoch is by far my favorite mod now, if for no other reason than being able to gear up off NPC's and buy amazing vehicles.
Last edited by Wrathcaster; 06-07-2013 at 05:31 PM.
Yes, all M107's and AS50's will stop spawning, and those that still exist or are spawned in by script kiddies will do 0 damage. I think it's a good change. A zombie survival mod doesn't need anti-material rifles, just like it didn't need the L85 and its IR scope.
Anyone ever seen a server with monthly or semi-annual or w/e database/gear wipes? I don't know if I would like to see that done across all servers/hives but I sure would enjoy playing on a clean server once in a while.
At this point anyone in a decent clan or well hidden camp is basically getting insta re-geared after death. I like the scavenging part of DayZ best of all, even though I do spend a ton of time trying to hide stashes everywhere so I don't have to spend hours looking for a freaking toolbox. Bit ambivalent on the issue.
Is Epoch a mod on top of the DayZ mod? Do you need a special patch or launcher?
Sup, Monica. Don't forget to register at re rerolled
DayZ Commander. Google it if you don't use it already. Use it. It'll give you a central location to download all the patches for Arma, DayZ, and every mod/mod patches you'd ever need. It also provides you with a tool to roll back to older versions of mods or DayZ code without having to fuck with installers or anything, which is very helpful since servers are all over the place as far as the version they run, especially for patches. Epoch, currently, is something like a 200mb download through DayZ Commander, and most servers are running the version before the latest patch. You can access all this through the install/update feature in DayZ Commander at the top of the window, and after clicking "install" next to DayZ Epoch (or whatever other mod you want to run), you can then select from the drop down box whether you want to use the latest/older version. Commander pretty much does it all for you.
On another note, in settings there's an option to launch Arma2/DayZ through Steam. I would highly recommend you do not. You can still run Steam while playing DayZ (minus the Steam overlay ingame), and launching through Steam can cause all sorts of problems. Downloading via Steam is fine, that's what I did, but just make sure you launch through DayZ Commander, which simply runs the .exe in your Arma2 folder.
Not sure if you use DayZ Commander, but I'd really recommend it to avoid a litany of problems, and it provides very helpful tools like being able to copy/paste server IP's into a favorites list rather than having to refresh the 6000+ server list and look for the name of the server. For example, US Road Warriors Epoch Chernarus server is 220.127.116.11:3102.
Also, to anyone who hasn't played in a while, you'll occasionally (or frequently) get an error when joining in or respawning where after the loading screen you get a "Something went wrong please disconnect and try again" on a black background. Ignore it, 90% of people are getting that right now. All you have to do is hit Escape and then click on Continue in the menu that pops up. You'll have to wait a bit (minute or so at most) and you'll probably spawn in with no visuals in debug forest, but this is temporary. After a second your UI will appear and the game will run normally, placing you in your last location or spawn spot.
I know it sounds confusing, but it's really not difficult once you run DayZ Commander and join a few servers to get the hang of it.
Also about commander - do install it. It makes life so fucking much easier - steam or no steam. Watch out for the "too many connections to refresh server list, gonna crash your router in 3, 2, 1....". Go to settings and reduce the max number of connections to 10 or so. I see no difference, but my router doesn't crash anymore.

It's a series of 5-6 videos. The one embeded above is plain DayZ fun in Epoch.
The rest of the series is also a good overview of what Epoch plays like I think. The mod seems (have yet to play it) better than Origins on several points. Below are my thoughts on Origins. I am still playing it and even though I am highlighting what I think is wrong with it I still like the mod a lot. And it is still DayZ - so it’s better than most things.
I have played a lot of Origins and like I mentioned before, from the description, it looked really cool. And it is, in fact, a well made mod and playing it is still enough like playing DayZ that it is a lot of fun. But it really does not play the way it is described. The end game loot “raiding”, the player built camps, the morality system don’t really achieve what I thought it would.
The “end game” island, for example, sounded like a good PvP centered, competitive and accessible activity. The way it actually plays though is that the top clan(s) of any server “camps” the server reset (which is when loot spawns), rushes it with helos, and swipes everything that has any value. Most of these guys must be sitting on stashes of dozens of NVGs. The loot there is static and not well distributed. You have 5 loot piles (in Urals). 3 of them contains 2 NVG each after any server restart for example. Whoever gets there first also gets a huge leg up at locking down the place. Landing anywhere near the Urals with both players and the AI firing is a big gamble.
The AI itself is not that big of a challenge. It’s also mostly a gamble. They take a long time to fire once they notice you. They miss a lot if you move a lot. But then you might get one-shot through a wall while running or combat rolling.
I think I like the model of spreading out end-game gear on the map more – like vanilla DayZ does. Stary camp + airfields – that’s 3 good locations you can get BiS gear. Multiple locations means the elite clans still have to work at locking the places down.
Origins also has no incentive to hero. The concept of “either die a hero or live long enough to become a bandit” is not a bad one. I’ve enjoyed every minute of the 200 hours I have lived by that rule. But I’d like to see a mod that gives a reason to sometimes take a risk and talk to people.
Building camps also sounded like a great feature. Grind a bit of mats, take risks going to quarries for stone, steal mats from players etc… I think many have been asking for player made cities since DayZ came out. The problem with Origins is that once you have a locked house there is no interaction with it and the rest of the world any more. It is locked and that’s that. You can be in a clan with 20 of your wardog friends and see a town with a dozen houses and there is nothing to do about it. You can’t raid it. The AI can’t raid it. All you can do is camp your ass there and hope for someone to log on, open the door and shoot them in the doorway.
Between houses and the island the game becomes very segregated. Player interaction exists less because of it. And when it does happen it is not improved on vanilla DayZ.
I think I will give Epoch a shot. The “bandit cannot use traders” feature might work toward fixing that issue for me. If you’ve played Epoch I would like to know if you noticed players risking more interaction than in regular DayZ or not.
That leaves blood bags and morphine/painkillers as the only way to increase humanity, as well as the average bandit kill but almost all my kills end up decreasing my humanity no matter the situation. There's just way more survivors out there than bandits. Heroes are damn near nonexistent.
Maybe I can reset my humanity by exploiting blood bags by shooting my friend and continually bloodbagging him, or shooting him since he has insanely low humanity as well, but it'll take forever and won't solve the critical issue. Honestly, if you're playing solo you're better off just ambushing someone at a trader camp after they buy a vehicle and stealing it before they have a chance to lock it. You can grab it before them and lock it yourself once they're out of the way.
New 10 Minute preview of DayZ Standalone featuring some of the new animations, crafting system, clothing/inventory system, and GREEN HOUSES ARE ENTERABLE NOW OMFG!
Unfortunately, it really doesn't show much else and the fact that they're using a single player build to show off, and that the game bugs out and has to be restarted mid demo makes me very nervous. IMO there's no way they're gonna make the previously stated deadline of public alpha before the end of June. I don't even know if they'll be able to finish Standalone by the time Christmas rolls around- the new serverside architecture is apparently causing a litany of problems, including extreme lag and the interrelated issue of all the zombies being spawned server side in the thousands is causing framerates to drop to 10 or less, optimistically.
Still, Rocket has a small team and has only been working on a standalone version with massive technical changes for only a year, and has shown remarkable discipline in resisting pressure to release the standalone early and unfinished, especially when WarZ was rolling out (and before people knew what an abysmal shitstain scam disaster it was). I just hope the challenges don't prove to be too much for him and his, and the fact that it's not just a mod anymore with a lot more riding on it doesn't compromise the project.
On a side note, you can actually strip your character down to his/her skivvies in the standalone, meaning my extreme desire to run near nude through the streets of Elektro with a SAW and hand grenades can finally be realized. I cannot express the joy I feel at this prospect, and the gaming excellence such a feature may offer.

Slow zombies inside + massive horde aggro from gun fire was really fun in Early DayZ. I understand they want to make Zs more of a threat (and slow speed indoor = easy mode). But making them fast indoor is not a good solution. Especially if they zig zag and bug out as much as they do in DayZ. More hordes and less ammo, I say!
