Looking forward to this movie. I enjoyed the last Riddick movie and hope the new one is on par if not better.
I just read that there's a new Riddick movie coming out on September 6, 2013. I know that the first two weren't classic cinema, but they still kicked a lot of ass. Apparently this movie is also going to be a rare R-rated IMAX release.
Teaser trailer releasing some time later this month.
Looking forward to this movie. I enjoyed the last Riddick movie and hope the new one is on par if not better.
Pitch Black was excellent. The second one was pretty stupid. That picture doesn't give me much hope it will more like the first.
That picture is bad ass. I wanted him to remain the necromancer leader and see what he did with his army instead of just forgetting that he was said leader and coming up with a new story altogether.
Vin Diesel is a major reason this is being made. I think he is working for scale. I think he might be supporting the film financially too.
vin diesel is a good dude. cant wait for part 3
Anything with Karl Urban in it is on my must-watch list. I'd watch a remake of the Notebook if he was in it.
You should marry him then.
I liked both the previous movies. They were fun and different, and there certainly was plenty of potential to take this series somewhere entertaining. Glad to see sci fi is making quite the resurgence this summer, and that alone should be a positive for anyone on these forums.
Is he really bankrolling this? He can make all the Fast and the Furious he wants to push this one out right. I even enjoyed the video games based on this universe.
From where Chronicles left off I half expected him to go into the under-verse himself and get Kara. I think I'm remembering the lore right?
There is also an edgar wright/simonpegg/nick frost scifi comedy coming out this year. Its gonna be a helluva year
The fact that you mentioned it's going to be rated R gives me a lot of hope. Second movie was alright, but I definitely liked the first one more.. hoping this third one can be better than the 2nd, which is good enough for me.
I hope its good. I'm not a huge fan, but the previous two movies were enjoyable. I'd rather see stuff like this than half the rehashed shit they shovel out every year.
Kaige#1128 - Battle.net
Kaige - Steam
I read that he was financing years ago but it seems they ran out of money in late 2011 and had to shut down. Luckily they got new funding from Universal or something and they movie was able to continue. He might even have gotten a real salary after that but last time I looked he was making scale.
I really enjoyed both the previous movies. Looking forward to this.
Pitch Black was awesome because Rhada Mitchell was the lead female. Chronicles of Riddick was good but could have been great if the lead female was anyone but Thandie Netwon. She is one of the worst female actors. That being said, I will be in there on opening weekend for the 3rd one.
Draegan's bitch ass sold us out to MMORPG.com
Exodus underway to ReReRolled.org - A Gaming Community
I'm a sucker for this stuff either way. And the video games, and anime don't get nearly enough credit. Great series.
As a bit of trivia Pitch Black started out as one of the many, many rejected Alien 3 scripts.
what i gather $38 million budget from One Race Films (Vin's) and Media Rights Capital (Ted, Adjustment Bureau) and Universal will be the distributor.
i loved the movies, but would has been happier if Chronicles had less of a grand scale. do idea how if got such a big budget.
"i'll kill you with my tea cup"
I might be off, but Vin was a big driving force for the 3rd movie happening and he has put alot behind it.
Just from what he has posted on facebook, he thinks it should be good, so there is hope.
I met him at the fangoria convention when they were schilling for pitch black, and when you saw him talk, or talked to him, you could see he stood behind the character and the movie.
If this has half the conviction, I'm sold.
I will flay the skin from your flesh and the flesh from your bones and scrape your bones dry. And still you will not have suffered enough
This is awesome news, pitch black is one of my favorite movies and I also enjoyed Chronicles. The video game was great too. I am really looking forward to some more Space Conan.
Funny, as soon as I saw the throne pic all I could think of is "He Made King Conan in space"
Pitch Black is fuckin amazing.
Chronicles is a total different style.still prefer PB.
A war is coming, I've seen it in my dreams. Fires sweeping over the Earth, bodies in the streets, cities turned to dust... retaliation.
Hollywood is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until everything you love is dead.
Chronicles the theatrical release is missing some key stuff that sort of brings everything together and makes the entire movie make more sense. It wasn't even that much that they cut, but it was enough to throw a bit of confusion into the mix. Mainly the Furyan stuff. Director's cut made a lot more sense.
Looking forward to this one immensely.
I love me some sci fi stuff, and I loved both the movies. Looking forward to the next.
There was some animated version of Riddick that had Toombs chasing him, wasn't it sort of a prequel story to Chronicles?
Is Chronicles worth watching? I really enjoyed Pitch Black but remember thinking Chronicles looked... bad.
its very different.
Pitch black is alot like Alien as mentioned earlier. its very much a tight survival horror.
Chronicles is... Moebius, 2000 AD, Dune etc.
Its a bit flawed. not really going one directly enough. It wants to be this mind blowing, Sci fi epic, but get dragged down in some typical action sequences. And Vin, not really doing a great job fitting the role of this chosen one.
Its hard to shoehorn the two into the same universe, nevermind a direct sequel.

Toombs and the prison planet could have been its own movie without all the necromonger stuff.
I loved Pitch Black, enjoyed Riddick and have been waiting for the next iteration to come or get announced for a while now. Glad its finally coming. I really enjoy the the Riddick universe and story. Between this news and the Jurassic park 4 news, I'm very happy for the next 2 years.
I hated the Necromongers, they basically win every single war, have no challengers and at the end Riddick gets control of this unstoppable army. Not sure how they can even make another movie without retconning some of that or doing something that makes all these dead zombies just drop dead and die in peace.
I see. Mostly my opinion is just as a regular viewer who hasn't delved too deep into the story outside of the movies and that one animation. Sounds a lot better the way you describe it.
The summary sounds more like a "Pitch Black" sequal over a Riddick sequal. If that is the plot point I am less inclined to watch this in theaters. I was all for continuing the story into the "Underverse" in the hopes of seeing this place discussed so much in chronicles. Just going to another planet infested by some sort of alien group using mercenaries as a shield while he beats them down feels like a "Riddick Light" movie.
Escape from Butcher bay & Dark Athena games on steam are pretty fun too. Butcher Bay every has X to the Z as a prison guard.
I mean, look how fucking hard everyone hated on dredd, and then how wrong they were.
Why would he bother to save his home planet? He is the last living resident of it and he doesn't really spend much time there throughout his life. The Necromonger leader dude killed every Furyan who exists because of the prophecy of one of them being his downfall. Unless like I said before, they need to retcon the F out of the Necromongers because they were stupid and ruined any future storylines for the universe.
The Big Bad in the Underverse can only be defeated by an Alpha Furyan.
Necromonger leader becomes the first (and only) person to cross over to the Underverse. He's deceived by the Big Bad into believing the Furyans will kill him. So his people wipe out the Furyans.
Riddick takes over the Necromongers, leads them into the Underverse and they get their asses kicked.
He returns to Furya to discover a super Secret Weapon or magic (Mentioned in the Directors cut of Chronicles, during a dream). And defeats the Big Bad.
That was the original plan as I understand it. Chronicles didn't make a lot of money so 8 years later they are returning to what made them successful. Just my 2c
Best part of the first two movies was the pasty white boy/girl growing up to be a sexy female action star.
Anyway, I thought Chronicles was pretty dumb. Mostly because it took what seemed like a pretty cool story and turned into a lot of dumb action. I also hate it when sequels jam references from the previous movie down your throat. I feel like Chronicles did that a lot. It's been a while since I've seen it though.
I love Pitch Black.
I really liked Jack's story. Sci-Fi had a series called "Kyra" all lined up to air after Chronicles which explained her time leading up to when Riddick returned.
Obviously, it did not air Had Chronicles been a hit, we'd be drowning in the series lore. I think that's why most folks are left confused, because so much didn't come to pass after it bombed. The good news was it left room for another series NBC was developing for the Sci-Fi network called Battlestar Galactica.
I like every Vin Diesel movie, no homo. I will watch this automatically.
I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time. Many hated Chronicles, but I loved the feel and atmosphere of it, perfect? certaintly not, flawed? oh yes, but the result is pure awesomeness none the less Hope this new movie manages to take the best of both Pitch Black and Chronicles and create a new kind of thrill ride.
From the synopsis I can't really tell if they are following the story from 2 or ignoring it. Either way I'm happy with it, jut happy to get more quality sci-fi.
got to say these movies werent that good, but ill probably still watch this one to laugh laugh at vin diesel's acting skills. he should only stay as his true character of Dominic Toretto.
I enjoyed Chronicles so much I still watch it every time I run across it on TV. Not entirely sure what it is about that movie, but I can't get enough.
I am really hoping this one follows that story line rather then going the Pitch Black route.
Honestly, I felt like Chronicles was held back because of Pitch Black. I just rewatched both the other night and Chronicles spent way too much time and reached too hard trying to jam the events of Pitch Black into the second story. I understand that Jack caused a significant emotional event for Riddick, but I think the writers did fans a disservice with the weak plot points while thinking they were servicing them with all the nods to the first movie.
In any case, both movies were pretty good, especially as far as sci-fi goes. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
It looks like a pitch black 2 to me. not a sequel to the events of Chronicles.
Sounds more like the necros try to get rid of him and it doesn't quite work out.
I'm hoping for a cameo by Johns. Either half.
It definitely is worth a matinee admission...

Fucking A. That's exactly what I want for a Riddick movie.
In an interview he is going to revisit the necro at in a later film.
Pitch Black redux with Starbuck? Mad keen.
" I wonder if you are destined to be forgotten. Will your life fade in the shadow of greater beings?"
I am pleased.
I wonder what role Vaako has then.
Sadly, no sign of zombie Johns.
I feel like I saw the whole movie in the trailer. I hate that.
I'd bet Vaako is only in it for a little bit. Probably helping Riddick get away from all the Necromonger stuff. I don't see Riddick as a person that would want all of that in the first place.
I also don't think Johns is coming back, a relative hunting Riddick is a lot more probable.
Good way to spend 9 bucks. Looks enjoyable.
Picked up the old 360 game for $2.50 last weekend as a quick refresher. Wife is bad at me for taking up her "Last of Us" time. Hah.
So it looks like this is more pitch black 2 then a continuation of Chronicles. I wonder if they will explain what the hell happened in between, also it says Karl Urban is in it but I didn't see him once in the trailer.
Definitely looks like the guy he threw the knife at was a Necromonger. After the cliff gets smashed and gives way with Riddick falling they likely left him for dead.
It just happens to be on yet another planet where monsters come out at night to murder people.
Urban fuck yes!
Riddick needs more attention. Really hope we get more Riddick movies before he gets too old to play the character.
Riddick is indeed a badass character. Movie looks tight.
That looked awesome. Was hoping for more Necromongers, but this will do.
Yes, needs Necromongers. At least I hope they'll be involved in some capacity. I also wonder how they're going to explain what happened at the end of Chronicles of Riddick. I mean, he became the leader of the whole Necromonger army at the end. They'll have to do a huge opening covering from where it left off to make any sense. As long as they go back to what made Pitch Black good, I don't think they can go wrong. Plus, Starbuck is in it. This is definitely my most anticipated movie of the year.
I hate that when i think of Riddick i always remember he is the last of his kind.
This movie could be taking places before Chronicles and after Pitch Black. Or maybe even before both.
This is after Chronicles. Karl Urban is in it playing Lord Vako again.
It's penance for not going to see Pitch Black in the theater and being completely surprised at how awesome it was a year or more later.
Granted, I did go and see Chronicles, and it has plenty of awesome moments even if the movie was pretty uneven.
