Looks like Arc III will be out soon as well:
I did a quick search and found nothing. There were quite a few folks who followed the Golgen Age thread back on FoH so I just wanted to remind you fine gentlemen that this is out and available for your viewing pleasure. For those unfamiliar, this is the same Berserk anime from a few decades ago but with more modern art and in movie form (instead of episodic release). They cut quite a bit from the Arc I, but I didn't feel like it compromised the story too much.
Edit: The download I got had really terrible subs. Found these on reddit and they're much better: http://www.mediafire.com/?r5nnhzc29pbvy84#

Looks like Arc III will be out soon as well:
If i'm not mistaken that's a trailer for the Japanese release, for Arc II it took 6? or was it 7? months for it to be released worldwide afterwards.. I'm not so sure that's going to be available soon for most people
Looks good, some big battles in that arc will be interesting.
Excited for the 3rd one with the Skull Knight / Zodd fights and maybe the inclusion of the Black Dog Knights / Wyald?

God, the end of this thing with proper animation is going to be the shit of nightmares.
so, uh, what should i watch after the berserk anime? the one with the bullshit cliffhanger ending. didn't really follow up on this series.
The first 3 movies essentially cover what the series did. Apparently they have no intention of stopping after movie 3 so the movies will eventually start to tread new ground.

I'm glad they are going the Hellsing OAV route. Much better than the standard weekly series bullshit. The animation is one of the best I've ever seen.
The original Berserk anime ending is probably one of the most infuriating things of all time.
The greatest story ever told? Maybe. Can't wait for another twenties years to pass to see how it ends.
At this rate Miura is probably going to die before we see a firm conclusion to Guts or Casca's story.
Curious if they'll tone down the end now that they have proper artwork or it they'll take advantage of it and really go balls to the wall
Cool to see them start this again. This is the only Anime I have ever really liked, I hated that it just ended with no plans to continue.
So let me get this straight. First there was the anime series, and now there is a Berserk Golden Age movie, Arc I, Arc II, and soon, Act III ? Or the anime is considered Act I, and the movie starts at Act II ? So confusing...
The anime and the Golden Age movies cover roughly the same material from the manga, volumes like 4-13 or something like that. But the movies are much higher production value and frankly more fun to watch than the anime. The third Golden Age movie is going to end at the same spot the anime did, but I think I read somewhere that they're hoping to adapt the entire manga into feature-length movies.
damn, hope the music in the movies will be half as good as this.
It is much closer to Forces, than most of the regular soundtrack compositions. But yeah, the music in the anime was killer.
I've been basically out of anime since Death Note ended a few years ago and never jumped back in. Wasn't really that amped to rewatch a series I already had, but holy shit these are so good. They don't do a disservice to the original series by shortening it too much and the animation is just great. The only thing I really miss from the original is the soundtrack
The trailer for arc 3 is god damn epic looking too. "CAN'T WAIT" - Bart Scott
anyone who hasn't seen the series probably doesn't want to watch the extended cut, as a few scenes are a bit revealing

Bah, Arc 3 will be really depressing to watch again. Will do so anyway, because Berserk is just great.
Berserk is definitely one of the top all time anime/manga. Glad to see they're planning to push beyond the original anime. Looking forward to seeing things animated that you only got in the manga before.
Ok so because of this thread I just read the first arc then the golden age arc...
What the fuck did I just read!!! Mindblowing. Is Griffith being male SUPPOSED to be a plot twist by the way?
so since these are out in Japan, is nobody subbing #3? Normally with popular stuff like this, it's ripped, subbed and uploaded in no time, but I don't even see raws floating around yet
Berserk has been on my list of anime series to watch. After getting caught up in Titan (fucking loving it) and hearing about it having a Berserk vibe I was planning on getting started on the anime. Am I better off just watching the movies? Or both??
Both. The anime series is better because you miss a lot of character development with the movie, but the movies so far have been solid and have great animation. Haven't watched the first movie since it was brand new, but I seem to remember they crammed the first 7 episodes of the anime into about the first 20-30 minutes of the movie, so you don't get the same understanding of the Guts/Caska/Griffith relationships. I definitely recommend watching the full 26 episode anime. It's the best anime series I've ever seen by far.

What Ham said, arc 3 came out in Japan in February and I haven't seen a whisper of it subbed anywhere, if anyone has a lead it would be appreciated, I love the anime and you get alot more in it, but having seen that, and read the manga these movie versions are super fun eye candy while I fill in the rest.
If you really want to get into it grab the manga, AFTER YOU WATCH THE ANIME, it is really great and will fill in all the blanks. It goes way beyond where the anime ends and is till going now. Kind of an undertaking to catch up but worth it if you like the anime. I for one am really hopeing they continue the movies past where the anime ends and keep the story going following the manga.
has the manga wrapped up yet? and is there a version that people do similar to the naruto with the sound effects and whatnot?
my gf watched the first 2 movies and really wants to see the third, I feel like switching over to the anime now is doable, but the quality difference in animation is insane
They still have not reached Elf Island or fixed Caska...
Anime is great, but the anime and the movies are the prequel chapters to the main story, so you will be left at a bit of a cliff hanger at the end. Anime is great to watch, but leaves out some critical characters that gives it problems with continuing (Skull knight - who's possibly the best character in the story, Puck - possibly the worst character in the story, some more Nosferatu Zodd fights that are great, more on who the Kushans are, etc).
Definitely start with the anime, then move to the movies though.
manga is such a drag...
btw for ppl who want to watch movie 3, usually theatrical movies are never sub'd or cam'd so you're gonna have to wait for the bluray release. Which is usually 5-6 months, so mid-end of summer for movie 3?
well knowing that now makes rewatching the golden age story in anime form easier than waiting now I guess.
lanx beat me to it. I did some e-sleuthing and found this: Unofficial torrent version will be probably late june because the Japanese blu-ray comes out on June 19th.
I ended up speeding through the manga last month and it was nice but became painful towards the end. The story line was extremely slow in developing and every chapter started to blur towards each other.
Every time I see this thread I think a new chapter has come out . But yeah the author is milking the shit out of the manga at this point ala One Piece, but at least that comes out weekly.
I agree it has it's slow parts, I skimmed alot of the Griffith vs the emperor, I really hope it gets back on track again, painfull to wait so long for something you will read in less than 30 mins.
I watched the anime several years ago and had no idea that there were movies out. Holy piss I'm excited!!
Just downloaded I belive the ArcI remake and I belive also the orig series- any particular watching order etc? should I just do the new one?
aye...the new one I downloaded is a miniiso? Bdrom rip...I got to mount it, but VLC won't play it (wtf!) so I gotta find a bdrom player or something for my comp, or rip it once mounted.
so I'll start watching the orig that are normal mkvs or something.
Holy fuck this was violent..and gory..and awesome
Looks like the only thing available is a cancer release right now based on the typical sites and the link above. Can't wait for a good translation.
An R18 release is out. Cancer was R15, but I'm not sure what gets edited out between the two ratings. Downloading it now. I'll report sub quality when I'm done watching it.
Subs are... tolerable, if you don't mind reading in context. If you're picky you might want to wait a while until someone who actually speaks english fluently gives it a go.

awesome, left me with the same blue balls as last time. girlfriend kept checking how much time was left and asking 'how are they going to wrap this up?' - only to find out, she's so so far from any actual end and she just completed one arc. she was butthurt and completely thrilled at the same time
I got the first arc, but its a BDVM or whatever, where I can mount it and it acts like a bluray drive... I don't have a program to play it, but I would rather take it and make it into a file or what not to stream to my PS3- any good ripping software?
I am going through the orig anime atm
