This is the most exciting news I've heard so far in 2013. I was one of the people that thought that it would sell well on DVD and that turned out to be true. Here's hoping that it keeps the momentum until a sequel is announced.
From the article:
The verdict is in and Lionsgate (LGF), a leading global entertainment company, announced today that the home entertainment release of DREDD claimed the number one spot on the DVD sell-through and Blu-ray charts with 650,000 units sold, making it the best-selling new release title of the year. Blu-ray units accounted for nearly 50% of week 1 POS at retail. In addition, the critically acclaimed thriller, starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) as the titular character Judge Dredd , was the top film download for the week, outpacing all other titles in digital sales as well.

Gave my friend a Blu-Ray of this for his birthday. He looked confused, but I told him that everyone I know will be receiving this as a present this year, even my grandmother. Deal with it.
Great fucking news. If they could make 2 death race sequels a dredd 2 shouldnt be too fucking hard to decide on.
I did my part and bought the Blu-ray (and saw it in a 3D theater), so here's hoping my dollar voted for something good for a change!
Honestly this is one of the few movies I really, really want them to make a sequel to.
Yeah definitely one of the best movies i've seen in the past couple years, would love a sequel.
Hopefully the same two actors if they do make a sequel.
I never read the comics. Do they work as a team in them on a regular basis?
Dredd in the comics mostly works alone, but he occasionally hooks with anderson and some red shirt Judges
I went to two stores last weekend trying to buy it and both were sold out. I hope they make a sequel.
Yeah was a solid movie. Wouldn't mind a sequel. Sure beats 90 percent of the shit that's been released recently.
Great news. I just bought the Blu-Ray and watched Dredd for the first time last weekend. Absolutely loved it from start to finish.
Finally got around to seeing it through OnDemand. Solid flick, I would definitely watch a sequel.
sadly i think if there was a sequal anderson(oliva thirlby) won't be there, i read somewhere the director would have wanted dredd 2 to be an origin story, which is sad cuz she played a really good "tough chick" with a nice hint of rookiness. I like watching a good female lead that can hold her own, like sigorney weaver in alien/aliens, a kate bekinsale in underworld(just the first one, the other movies were difficult to watch). I don't want these overplayed mila jovich Alice/resident evil or, ugh jolie tomb raider women, but oliva thirlby as anderson was great. She was able to convey a bit of uncertainty but still kick ass cuz well she's still a judge, i'd rather see judge dredd:the anderson files, or something.
Awesome film, and kudos to Karl Urban for not taking his helmet off throughout the entire movie. Here's hoping for a sequel.
Ye, really hoping for a sequel. The straight-forward action and no fucking love interest and all the other bullshit normally pestering movies was refreshing. And as mentioned before Urban keeping his helmet on for the whole movie was just awsome.
I'm not going to get my hopes up, but man it would be awesome. This is the best action movie I have seen in recent memory. Whoever fucked the dog on the marketing of this should be fired.
Yeah, this was surprisingly good & fun, and I don't generally enjoy pure action flicks.
Just watched, Judge Anderson can arrest me anytime she wants. Good movie for what it is.
I seriously have to wonder if his face hurt like a bitch from keeping such a deep frown all day. I can't frown that deep without my lower face muscles twitching like mad.
Watching this this weekend based on these reviews, sounds awesome!!#%!#%!#%
You won't regret it. Watching this movie will improve the hair coverage of your balls by 30%.
Finally watched Dredd last night based on all the praise here. You guys were right.
Yeah i watched it last weekend, i loved it and the wife did as well. She has actually watched it 2-3 times by now.
Bought this shit sight-unseen today based on your recommendations.
good shit, one of the best movies I've watched in a while
Best news of the year indeed.
Thanks to everyone who paid for the DVD/Digital Copy/rented it!
Per everyone's recommendation seen it, and it is indeed a great movie!
megacity one is a simmering pusshole. any normal person wouldnt want to stick their dingaling in any citizen. anderson is a fucking mutie. sure shes hot looking, but you wouldnt risk your dick falling off to fuck her.
anderson is fucking gorgeous man, shes a honey looking chick, but the reality of that situation man. her vadge might have a stank of an old musty basement with green mensies juice leaking out. im telling you brother, your wiener will turtle on its own. no matter horny you get , no matter how beautiful she seems it just isnt going to happen.
its a safer bet to fuck missy pyle in galaxy quest even though shes actually a Tentacle Terror disguised as a beautiful human woman because at least shes a pure Tentacle Terror, her TT vadge wont have DNA altering goo seeping out just waiting to fuck up your day.
Which makes me wonder, where are you getting all the vag seepage in the Dredd universe from? I'm pretty sure I missed those issues. Were you scarred by some horrible fan fiction?
Interesting conversation though, so take it in the amusing manner that I am, I'm not busting your balls.
but i dunno man. shes got that crazy DNA swimming inside her. maybe psy powers are the only thing wrong with her, but what if it went further and she had a set of Alien style double teeth embedded in her cooter just waiting to spring into action?
id still stick with fucking the hot Galaxy Quest Tentacle Terror. she can make herself a hot chick and occasionally orgasm out some shaman armor. win/win!
Karl Fucking Urban should become his Christian name. Between Dredd and Reaper in Doom (SEMPER FI MOTHERFUCKER) and of course, his at-least-in-my-mind award-winning turn as Bones McCoy (As YOU were), Urban is becoming one of my favorite actors that can do genre work and elevate it. It helps that he's a huge nerd, as I understand it.
Don't forget Eomer. It's a shame Jackson basically wrote him out of RotK. Oh, and Julius Caesar in Xena!
Holy fucking shit, I have never heard of this movie (Where was the marketing? The budget didn't seem poor) but big thanks to all involved with spreading the word.
I just streamed it online and it was amazing, a real throwback to the (In my opinion) 80s style action thriller. No bullshit, no crying, no wasted time just fucking grab your balls action.
Great choice for Dredd played it perfectly, feeling guilty I streamed it online I will certainly be buying the DVD to support a possible sequel.
I really don't understand how I literally did not hear about this movie.

Really excited and disappointed at the same time, this is a seemingly forgotten genre of film and is well overdue for a return.
Who the fuck dropped the ball?
Yeah definitely not enough, considering I had never heard of it until this thread.
I'm a pretty average 24 y/o American Male, probably a prime demographic for the film as well.
Was it that hard to just get an image on the side of a taco bell cup or something? Or at least put the trailer on TV? I'm not exaggerating at all I really had no idea it existed.
The funny thing is that prior to the movie coming out, even the discussion on FoH was beyond tentative. People who love the movie now were already writing it off at the sign of the first trailer. They fucked the dog on the marketing, hardcore. People were just straight up unaware that this movie existed.
I also never noticed cersei lannister was the villain until i saw the credits.
Never heard of this movie until this thread. This movie was bad ass. Love this site.
Downloaded it when it came out, loved it. Redboxed it to watch with the girlfriend. Going to buy it on Blu Ray today because it's that good of a movie and I want to support a sequal.
I'm surprised to see so many Rerollers actually buying the film to support it. Maybe it's just the outspoken few, but in the past the impression I've got (especially from the Other Games forums) is that the overwhelming majority here is a dirty pirate.
and i gladly paid to see this in the theater, and am probably going to pick up the BR copy at wally world this weekend
I downloaded it, then loved it and wanted to support it so I went to the theater with a friend and paid for him and then bought a Blu Ray copy for both myself and my brother.
I think this is the only DVD I've bought in .. years. Dredd had the perfect blend of gritty violence and dystopian scifi atmosphere.
If they don't call the sequel Dredd 2: Frown Harder, I'm out.
nah its gonna be Dredd2: Dredd Goes Hawaiian
and i get accused of shitting up threads, if you got anymore on my nuts you are gonna get mistaken for a third ball.
Redbox'd it. It was good! I'm jaded, yet it was an action movie that entertained me and I enjoyed. Not sure I'll buy the BR, since I hardly ever buy any (all I have is 1st season of GoT). I have been highly recommending it to people. I'd love a sequel.
"Dredd" Sequel Not Happening, Film's Props and Costumes Being Auctioned Off
The ebay auctionKarl Urban's "Dredd" movie hit theaters in September and went on to gross only $32 million globally on a $50 million budget. The film obviously won't be getting a sequel, which is why the studio is now auctioning off all the props from the movie.
The Prop Store set up an eBay auction which will start on Monday, January 28th and will offer over 200 props and costumes. Some of the items available are Urban's full Judge Dredd costume and Lena Headey's Ma-Ma costume.
Judge helmets and belts will also be sold individually in addition to Judge Dredd's motorcycle. All items will be available to bid on for ten days. Click here to view the eBay auction.
if the box sales were good enuff why not? I mean word of mouth did the marketing for them at this point
Hollywood ain't got time for that.
Lame, although this isn't an official announcement. DVD sales can get sequels greenlit. Just look at Austin Powers...1st one was a dud in the theaters, but strong DVD sales got a movie made. Same with Firefly.

Someone start a kickstarter for a sequel. Fuck this bullshit.
I almost wish I hadn't paid anything for this now.
Supposedly added with the DVD/Blu-ray sales, they didn't break even, which is disappointing. One article I read mentioned they might be trying to do just that.
On another note, isn't it natural to sell off a lot of that stuff, since they wouldn't use it again?
I can understand using the same props for the Hobbit movies, because they're filmed together, but you wouldn't need some of those characters' attire that they're selling.
Not that I know for sure, but just attempting to shine a little light on a potentially grim situation.

They shit the bed on video because it didnt go on sale til a month after the christmas season. Last chance is when this hits cable in 6ish months and if it gains cult following then a sequel may happen. Maybe. Seems the studio never had faith in this movie to begin with.
If a movie flops in the theater it almost guarantee's no sequel. Hollywood just does not consider home video sales to really be part of a films grossing.
The marketing team behind this movie royally fucked it from the outset. Not only was it not marketed well when it was in theaters, but I literally saw 0 commercials for the DVD/Blu-Ray release.
i don't think dredd stood a chance, between pl still remember stallones dredd and rob schnider, then getting that confused with demolition man (i actually had 2 ppl think the 3 seashells were part of dredd) and being released in such a comic heavy year... avengers/dark knight rises/ spiderman/mib3, it was bound to get lost in the crowd, along with zero advertising.
Been a fan of Dredd for more years than i care to remember and I thought the movie was okay, nothing special and a little disappointing. Surprised it didn't get a sequal though considering some of the shite that gets them
Though someone should have been fucking bitchslapped into the next life for the abortion that was the Lawmaster.
The movie only grossed 14 million in the US according to IMDB. Like 35 million world wide. That's tough to get a sequel from. Instead we will get 20 more remakes of shit.
Dredd opened the same week as End of Watch, Trouble with the Curve, and House at the End of the Street.
Resident Evil: Retribution and Finding Nemo 3D had opened the week prior.
Looper, Hotel Transylvania, and Pitch Perfect opened the week after.
Taken 2 and Frankenweenie in week #3 then Argo, Sinister, and Seven Psychopaths in week #4.
Just watched again today. Such a good movie. Karl Urban was perfect for Dredd.
It's FOX, so it will get up to a full one season if it's lucky. That network kills science fiction.
I'll watch it cause Karl is in it, but reading that synopsis, I really don't see the hook. So an emotionally crippled human learns to love from a robot? This is gonna carry a whole TV series?
Damn, seeing this thread bumped on the forum list got my hopes up for a second.
