Google made an ARMMO? What the hell.
Anyone currently doing this? I've got a couple friends that are in and I've been looking for an invite. Was wondering if anyone here had any leet infos.
Edit: Now that I posted this I'm honestly not sure if this belongs here or the MMO forum after I thought about it.
Google made an ARMMO? What the hell.
Yeah, Android only as of now, but rumors speak of an iOS version, too. WP? Not even on the horizon
Sweet. I'd like to check this out, but I'm not gonna go buy an Android phone to do it.
I've been in it for a few weeks now, but getting an invite was a bitch. You basically have to either know someone already in it and hope they get given a code, or idle in their IRC room hoping to win a code via trivia and whatnot.
Game is pretty awesome if you live in a big city, probably not so much if you don't as the portals and stuff will be pretty few and far between. Every government building is a portal at least, so even the smallest of towns SHOULD have at least a few in them to start out on (post office, fire dep etc). I travel all over northern Illinois for work right now, so I've been making a lot of pit stops to hack things lately :x
The game is still in it's infant stage, most portals are still generated on top of buildings Google is aware off, universities, post offices, graveyards, you get the drift. User-contributed portals are slowly coming and favor urban areas to a degree that you can have ten portals in a 200 meter radius in the inner city and black spots where no portals can be found for kilometers right next to it. Google utilizes Latitude check-in data to determine busy areas, so they know where to priorize portal contributions and also spawn energy (XM).
I am looking forward to a point in the future where portals happen to be where I go, instead of having to get out of my way to play the game and spend a fortune on gas to do so.
Huh, I signed up just yesterday and woke up to an invite email. Maybe you guys should try signing up with a different email address?
Try to re-signup with different addresses, right now, you can usually get an invite within 24 hours if you sign up a few times.
First 10 people to post an email will get an invite.
EDIT if you dont want to post an email can just send a PM

In non-urban areas, this game can be expensive and slow. My area is basically owned by one dude 7 levels higher than me. I swat at his stuff on my lunch breaks, but that's about all I can do. I was in another state this weekend though and lucked out and found two portals open. I'm now the proud owner of a piece of google IP.
Cool concept, but like most MMOs, I think it'll be difficult for newcomers.
Screenshot Post #4
Agreed, the game lacks some ways to catch up as a new player. If you can't find an area that you can destroy as a level 1, you will level extremely slow. Let's see, you need 10000AP for the first level up & 30000AP for the second level up. As level 1 you can kill a level 3 portal tops. In case flipping portals is no option due to higher level players in your area, all you can do for points is:
- Hack enemy portals for 100AP
- Recharge friendly portals for 10AP each (portal resonator XM decays by around 10% each day, so you can usually recharge three times per day)
As you can see, being outleveled is not even as worse as having no opponents at all. Having 5 hostile portals in your range seems likely for most areas, so you can do easy 5x4x100=2000XM just by hacking them till burnout (after 4 consecutive hacks) each day. This means 5 days for level 2 and another 15 days for level 3.
After that, the game mostly opens up, you can attack most portals with level 3 if you have enough ammunition. You will most likely don't have level 7-8 portals in your area for long, as those are field cornerstones that scream for attention and lead people to drive out and nuke them to pieces usually. Once level 3, you should focus your effort on farming (this is the most important part of the whole game, get a friendly farm started, in the best case, multiple portals that you can cycle through within 5 minutes), and blowing those portals down that contribute to an enemy field. Just blow the field up, grab the portal and get going back to farming mode. It is a juicy spot for the enemy, as they still are only a single portal away from completing a field (again), so they will redeploy once more. Nuke the portal down until they don't feed you AP anymore, then take over the whole field.
By now, you are already knee deep in, you will figure out the rest on your own
I drive ~200 miles a day for my job all over the northern part of Chiago and surrounding suburbs. Soon I will be king of the north.
This game is tailor suited for cops, which we speculate the local badass in our area must be cause he owns literally everything. The city is his sweaty nut sack.
Still fun to play though, especially if you can get coordination on your side.
I need an invite please :

Waiting for the story of the tragic gang fights touched off by opposing Ingres players trying to take the same portal at the same time.

sent. Still have a couple left.

I would take an invite.

At first this sounded kinda dumb, but after looking at the gameplay elements it sounds primitive but cool. I think there's huge potential for this type of game.
Cops, or better yet, postal people or fed-ex/UPS drivers.
The some of the regular dudes on Com in my area are really really into this - they will drive for miles just to take down someone's shit.
Thanks to the invite I have been trying this game out over the past day or so. It is intriguing but is better suited for climates that are not winter in Minnesota. This will be a blast in the spring / summer and hopping on a bike in the metro area.
I joined the Enlightened as they seem to be the underdogs pretty heavily in my area. Almost the entirety of Minneapolis is Resistance controlled with a few patches of Enlightened portals. I am making a habit of being in the game on my phone when I drive to collect XM so I am full wherever I may go. Also pursing the not so safe route of drive by hacking portals if I come close enough to them on residential roads / stop lights.
Leveling seems challenging when starting out solo, not able to do a significant amount of damage to most of the portals in my area. I was fortunate enough to come across a Enlightened portal in Minneapolis today that wasn't fully allocated with resonators so I could actually contribute something.
Outside of that I am just hacking everything in site. When I first got started I just drove around where I live to find some portals and play around. They aren't in great abundance but they were on my way home. I walked around for 15 minutes in Minneapolis today and just hacked a bunch of portals around a data center I was visiting. Seem to net some L1 / 2 resonators and XMP bursts and a bar of AP.
Being the underdog might suck for the first few levels but is great from then on. You can usually cherry pick the most attractive field hubs, while the enemy is eager to rebuild and relink quickly again.
Thanks a ton for the invite Jooka.
Report Two from my first dedicated mission into Minneapolis. Yesterday evening I was fortunate enough to catch The Book of Mormon at the Orpheum and on my way there I scoped out a few areas that looked weak enough that I might be able to destroy a resonator or two. I ended up walking for multiple miles this morning around Minneapolis following portal to portal.
The best find of the day was 5 unclaimed portals around the Guthrie Theater. Not sure if folks get down to that area, but they were grey and I was able to get a couple of thousand AP from bringing them online with L1 Resonators and linking them where I could. I managed to create a tiny control field (+1) with the resources I found, that control field nets 1250 AP itself.
A majority of the trip was walking the downtown area and hacking as many Portals as I could find. Not sure if it is a bug or intentional but if you hack a portal multiple times in rapid succession you can get upwards of 3 hacks (super rarely, 2 is more common) on a single portal.
On my way out of town I spotted a weak L4 portal and spent 10 minutes blowing XMP bursts to destroy its resonators and then I built up the strongest Portal I could. No doubt it will be demolished, but at this point I am just shooting for as much AP as possible to get mid level 4-5 and feel useful.
This trip took me from around 4k AP to 24k AP in 2 hours. So I am now level 2 and 6k away from level 3. On the bright side, this is probably the most exercise I have had in the past year.
I could use an invite if anyone has a spare.
I signed up on a few e-mails hoping for a key. Also looking for an invite to this. Will share stories / pics
I was able to hit level 3 last night just barely. While my experience / fortune of getting from 4k - 24k AP was a really fun experience, getting the last 6k to level 3 was monotonous and annoying. Basically, a team of level 6 - 8 Resistance took control of my general stomping grounds around Fridley where I work. Previously it had been a smattering of blue / green portals and I was envisioning when I would be able to consider taking them down. That all went out the window as most portals are fully charged and level 6.
The other experience that sucked was finally building up a stock of L1 / L2 XMP bursts and trying to poach a portal that is by my house in Blaine. It was an L5 portal that the owner had not been maintaining and I wanted to disrupt the control field / links. I figured I stocked up enough, boy was I overestimating the power of my XMP bursters. I burned through my entire stock of L1 / L2 XMP bursts (around 30) and only destroyed 3 resonators and didn't get the rest to critical so the control field stayed active. This is problematic because it sent an email to the owner letting him know what I did and the next day he had fully reinforced / recharged the portal. Live and learn I guess, if I would have waited a day or two it may have decayed to the point where I could have taken all of them down.
My current active plan is to continue hacking portals in a pattern around my work and building up tons of supplies. I am then going to use the ingress intel map to try and isolate portals that can be poached to try and build some AP. The thought of level 3 - 4 being more AP than 1 - 3 is somewhat depressing if the majority of the time will be spent hacking portals rather than strengthening / destroying them.
I was also kind of hoping to get some invites from leveling up to spread around, but the count still remains at 0 available.
Another tip I have for you, is to zoom all the way in until even unclaimed portals are shown, then hit ctrl-minus some times. This allows you to quickly check a large area for unclaimed portals.
I've got a couple more. Tarrant & Friday PM an email to invite to if you havent gotten one yet. If they got invites already I will have a couple open for others.
Tarrant & Friday, you have 24 hours to PM me an address. After that invites go to next posters.
Another quick update around progress. I am still level 3 but approximately 3k AP from level 4. I had a really good run in Minneapolis. I was able to find a couple of unclaimed portals and take down a couple fading portals. The strategy of using the week to gather supplies and then targeting low power portals during the weekend worked really well. Still have to burn through quite a few XMPs to bring portals down but it is progress.
MVP of that session is this: New Trent iTorch
Was able to walk Minneapolis for 8 miles and never dropped the battery on my phone. Still had a bit of a charge on the iTorch as well. Overall it was probably a 3 hour trip, once again, more exercise than usual.
I am aiming to hit level 4 in the next couple of days. Should be able to contribute a bit more to Enlightened at that point. There seems to either be an influx of new Enlightened or returning of idle folks over the past week or so. It's not like Enlightened are taking over or anything but I am seeing quite a few more green portals around than I was used to.
I've got 2 more invites if people are looking. PM me an email to send it to.
I got an invite yesterday, thanks though!
I'm out for now.

Any invites? Imagine this might be fun in Dallas...
Just got an extra invite to Ingress. Anyone need them?
edit: Sorry, I actually got two extra invites. ;p
edit 2: Make that 4 extra invites (yay for all my emails). lol

This game is great, I've tried it.
I just got in yesterday and this is pretty fun. Only spent an hour or so walking around town hacking portals where I could, but there are 10 within a 20 minute walk of where I live. I think I'll be taking regular walks before and after work now.
I'm going to crash my car into something because of this game. I need to just shut my phone off...
I almost did that the other day =\
I am pretty much the lord and master of the county I live in though!
There is some dude named KingOfNerds in my area who owns everything. I'm resistance and he's enlightened. Trying to bring his shit down is pretty much an impossible task for me alone.
Just go meta on him. Can't break his portals in the game? Camp out one of his frequent portals and take his phone when he shows up!
Hah, I thought it was pretty bad with one person in my area owning everything, but he's resistance while I'm enlightened. At least that way I could hack portals for AP. Now some enlightened guy came through and took everything over, so I no longer get AP for hacking because the portals are all friendly. Thankfully there were some leftover portals that he couldn't take but he beat up enough that I could break up and set up my puny level 1 resonators.
I just hit level 2 on my way to work today when I found an unclaimed portal so I pulled over and set up shop. I can see another unclaimed portal from work so hopefully when I get out of here in a few hours I can take that one as well.
The update looks pretty good. They've added a way for people to suggest portal locations, add new photos and info for existing portal locations, smooth out location acquisition and some unnamed bug fixes.
I just got an invite today, gonna give it a go.
Soooo.... after going through that initial tutorial and doing a bit of driving around while running errands and checking the phone this is how I feel.
Also how the fuck do you keep the screen from going off while the game is open, that is driving me NUTS.
Set your phone to keep its screen on longer or touch the screen to keep it from sleeping. Unfortunately, it doesn't keep it open like GPS Nav software.

any invites left?
Just got an invite and I'm on iPhone. First to +Rep gets it.
Ok, I just started playing this and have been loving it for the past week.
I have a good mix in my area so there is some decent back and forth.
oderint dum metuant
Anyone have an invite to this still?
Yeah it is fully open.
oderint dum metuant
This is out on iOS now, rejoice.
oderint dum metuant
I have a Lv12 fucker owning the shit out of places around me. He also has visited some 1800 portals. WTF?
He's probably been playing for a while. I played the shit out of this for a few months, then stopped. I haven't played in a year probably.
So I figured out that all this game does is make you want to drive an extra 20 miles out of your way wasting gas and time, to hack some shit or set up portals. In the mean time looking at your cellie when youre driving, not the safest thing to do. If you dont go out of your way, you are basically stuck to the 20 or so portals you get to visit or drive by each day on your way to and from work.
Yeah, if you live in a very urban/downtown area, it's probably a lot more fun. I'm in the suburbs, so shit was just out of the way for me and I'm not going to drive around just to play it at 16mpg in my car.
