I'll be playing this come Friday, I like what I see here.

I wish I could get people to play UO. Too bad the client/ui is stuck in the fucking stone age.
One thing I noticed on IPY2 is there were a LOT of thieves running around, just to grief and steal your bandages while you fought monsters and stuff. They only did it for pure griefing purposes, back in the real UO days there werent as many griefers. There were PK's would who straight up kill you, but very few thieves. Nothing is more annoying having a blue, non flagged thief follow you around stealing your stuff, when you can do nothing to retaliate, otherwise you get flagged. Hopefully there wont be an influx of them here too haha.
Is this really *officially* tolerated by EA? The website looks pretty official but I want to be sure before I invest time© 2012 Ultima Online Forever : An Ultima Online Renaissance [UO:R] Server

Electronic Arts Inc.
Thanks for the post, I will definitely be checking it out. I miss the UO days.
To the couple who said they'd be playing -
What are your plans? PvM char, crafter, PK, PvP faction char?
Never played UO, started my online gaming with Everquest back in 2001ish .. This looks interesting.
Sounds tempting. Anyone play the beta? Is the primary focus here on PVP? I'm sure I would be far behind the curve. I'd rather not spend all my time as a ghost
The server is set in the time period of about UO:R with a number of additions. Also, the server is Felucia (PvP) no Trammel (PvE only) and does not have the T2A lands.
Yes you can be killed while PvEing.
Interestingly, the guys I play with were talking about this last night. In the old FFA games like UO and AC: Darktide there used to be PK's, Anti's and Neutrals. Now with a game like Darkfall, there are no more Neutrals or Anti's, everyone is just a PK. We were trying to brainstorm why and think this cme to be probably because the focus of the game is all about PvPing, unlike UO and AC. I know that on EMU server UOSecondAge, set to UO just after T2A, it's not all about ganking people, it's about community and I'm really hoping that this shard turns into something very similar.
Wouldn't mind dipping my toes in UO again, haven't played since Adam Ant's server six or seven years ago.
Wonder if you can do the old purple pot trick where you drop a crate of them and then blow them all up at once.
Oh man, I would love to play this I think. Used to love playing UO, and miss it sometimes.
Might have to get my friends together who I used to play UO with and do some old-school trap boxing. We used to put a deadly-poisoned chest on a noob character with no gear. Annoy/steal from someone until we went grey and they could beat the noob character down. When the body was looted by the killer they would attempt to open the box(the only item in the inventory) and become poisoned so bad they'd die within seconds. Call in your friends from just offscreen to loot the body dry and run for the hills. Rinse & repeat as often as you can find a sucker for the scam.
So tempting but I saw a lot of these "free" UO servers go up and disappear again - most of them because people do not invest much time in maintenance and support after the initial rush dried out. UO would be the perfect game for me to go f2p. I seriously would buy stuff from whatever fancy shop they come up with, I just don't want to subscribe to UO on a monthly basis these days. But I guess the code is too old, that thing must have been written in modula ii or worse back then.
This is going live in less than 3 hours. I'm gonna PK people like crazy for about 2 weeks then quit. Launches are so much fun.
Edit: Damn, young status shattering my plan.

Former Sheriff of Trinsic on Sonoma server and indian on SP server here, I may give this a shot.
Edit - I just tried dling the client from their website and its giving me an error in the .rar file when unzipping and won't open.

So did this launch?
I'm busy today but I wanted to get in on launch day so bad.
Yep, been playing the last couple hours. Working on my archer/mage. No clue if that is as effective a combo as it was back in the early days of UO but fuck it, it's what I'm good at
Played this all night, the skill gain is pretty nice when you're in the dungeons. Unless I'm missing something this game has shit loot tables for hard dungeon mobs. Literally no gold and just bags of food and clothing. What the fuck. It's almost like they don't want us in the dungeons. People are making money somehow though, I saw the first house go up (63K) like 2 hours after launch.
Here's a summary of launch night from the server Admin.

I'm going to jump into the community. Sound a little bit better than IPY at launch.
Most important question: Does it have Occlo
Having never played this it sounds pretty complicated with all the class/skill systems particularly being a PVP game. No one wants to focus on some gimp combo in a pvp game. Can someone give a little run down for anyone that might be interested in trying it?
The UO Forever site has a few videos on the basics of the game and getting started with combat, crafting, and housing
However, as far as what builds are the most powerful, I honestly couldn't tell you. I quit playing UO a little bit before some of the features in this version were added. When I played, archery/magery was the defacto choice for PKs and fighting them, but I hear that some melee builds work well now, as well as unarmed/wrestling + magery. I don't know the specifics of all that yet.
The good news is, you're never tied into one skill. Say you max out a skill like archery, and then something changes and you decide you don't like it anymore, you can flag it to decay(lose skill points) as you raise some other skill. So even though there is a skill point cap, once you hit it you definitely aren't set in stone forever with that character, you can always reduce current skills to raise others if you change your mind.
Basically though, you can't do everything with one character. You need to specialize with a couple characters(assuming you have any interest in crafting...and you should) I have my archer/mage character that does fletching to make my bows/ammunition(and a basic amount of lumberjacking to gather wood), but then my 2nd character is a miner/blacksmith for eventually making high-end armor and weapons. You can basically only max out 7 skills with any character (700pt cap), so you do need to specialize a bit. My mage/archer I plan on maxing archery, tactics(goes with every combat skill), anatomy(goes with every combat skill), magery, spell resist, evaluate intelligence(enhances spell damage), and fletching as my 7.
Last edited by joeboo; 01-20-2013 at 05:48 PM.
So there's a skill cap of 700 meaning you can 7 x GM skills (100 value). Stats are capped at 225 stats so common stats for this era for a mage are 90/45/90 or 90/35/100. If you are wanting to make a mage there are 5 skills that is pretty much as must have known as the 5x mage skills: Eval Int, Wrestling, Magery, Resist, and Meditation. At that point you have options for the last two skills depending on what you want to get.
Alchemy will make your potions stronger in combat
Inscription will increase the duration and effectiveness of your buff/armor spells
Anatomy will give you the chance to stun punch combined with wrestling
Healing will let you use bandages and increase your survivability.
For this era my pvp char is going to have the 5x mage skills and then anatomy for stun punch and scribe for buffing magic reflect and what not. If you're first starting out you should create a char with like 50 healing/50resist magic, use some of the gold in your bank to train a weapon skill at the blacksmith and buy some basic weapons/armor and start hitting up the GY outside of Brit or other spawns to up your weapon skills, once you can kill ettins/earth ele's what what not in Despise/Shame you can get yourself going.
Ok I am trying it out, name is Scyfi. We need to hook up and run this shit.
Having an absolute blast over here.
Era wise it's nailed what I loved about UO.
and yeah, I saw a bonewall going in Deceit -- good stuff.
Lich lord room has way too many effin mobs though.
I logged in, ran to brit bank and saw people riding polar bears? what the fuck man...I was a little surprised at the gayness and logged. Didn't really even give it a chance.
Ultima is my favorite mmo, my first and will always be the best.
I would give it a shot if someone can tell me how far into the bad decisions OSI made, did this server go. Renaissance is kind of foggy to me and I never even seen someone ride a polar bear for that matter in the entire time I played (which was launch to the gayness of trammel) but the problem I remember was yeah, they added stuns and disables and shit to melee combat but it made melee's a fucking whirlwind of destruction with deadly poisoned weapons on anyone who wasn't a 7x gm sword mage and even then, you better have a good connection because it only takes about 3-5 hits on a katana to ruin your day when you have to cure poison to be able to heal.
I used to run around buck ass nekkid in the tighty whitey underwear with a poisoned katana killing people. Good times.
Just like to give some feedback on the server.
It blows donkey dick and I would rather ride around on neon bugs with a glacial staff sexting on brit bank than to continue my efforts on this trammelite shitpile of a server disguised as felucca.
If you're looking for a cure for the UO itch and your taste is similar to mine... UOsecondage.com has seen a spike of 250-300 players recently and is peaking over 800 clients (around 500-600 unique IP addresses) set in t2a era(obviously)
Thats where I ended up.
Each to their own, I've played secondage its a decent server but the pvp mechanics on that server are complete dogshit all in a name of appeasing "era accuracy". That server is actually far more tramelliete because the pvp mechanics are so bad its like nearly impossible to kill somebody if they don't want to be killed. Also there's a LOT of great content missing that will never be implemented because they are so strict with being 100% era accurate.
I'll stick with UO Forever thanks. It's a UOR server so approx 2000-2001 time period, the point when the game had the best content and stuff to do (champ spawns, BODS, rares, best pvp mechanics, new dungeons, faction system) before it all went to crap.

The skill gain is stupid fast, I shouldn't have gotten Taming to almost 90 in less than 24 hours. getting .5-.7 per gain is far too much and I feel like within a few weeks people will be bored(me) with nothing to do besides play the sims with houses.
I dont see anything wrong per se with the era, it's all the little fucking things they decided to "make the game better."
At least with UOT2A you know a month down the road you're not going to have your game destroyed with whatever the armchair developers on the forums decide to introduce to the server.
What the fuck is a bola?
Are you sure you're logging into the right server, I kinda doubt you are? The highest taming is some guy at 93 and he's been grinding it non stop since release, you definitely aren't getting .5-.7 per gain on taming here. Bolas are a crafted item introduced into UOR that lets you dismount somebody, I'm glad they're out here, they put a lot of power in the hands of zergs and tamers.
If anyone sees Sir or Ser Funk around don't gank me please
Been having a blast so far. Taming is definitely a lot harder than that Rhuma, idk maybe you're joining the test server or something? Skill gain has been relatively fast for my combat skills (in a dungeon), but taming is nothing like that on this server.
Hey Funk I am running around as Scy i think i saw you in desolace or whatever that dungeon is above Brit, I got ganked hard stupid poison.
haha, nice to run into you. Hope the dragons treated you nicely
Been working up my archery/lumberjacking over in the Minoc/Vesper areas and Covetous(yay harpies for farming feathers). My two characters are Joeboo and Jobu if you happen to see either around. I've only been ganked once so far, down near the bottom of Covetous. PK fencer/poisoner sliced me up while his bluebie buddy stonewalled the exits to keep me trapped.
Does anyone know if this server has the feature of different types of wood for crafting bows? Lumberjacking is ungodly slow(I'm only at 60ish while my fletching is in the mid 70s) and I haven't seen any specialized wood types yet.
Having a blast so far, my only gripe is not knowing exactly which era/rules apply to everything on the server. Seems like it's a mix of a few different eras/expansions.
Can't wait to start playing this one , good old memories , but it suck i'm at work till Feb 4th !
Shouldn't have told my friends right after seeing this thread though , i will have to catch up with them.
I'm still not sure about class and professions though , keep on posting , you guys giving me good idea till i'm back home
Not sure I'll stick with this over the long term, but it has been fun so far. I'm pretty much a UO noob, but I've managed to GM swords/tactics/anat. Dungeons definitely give faster gains. Magery/Resist seem much harder to raise.
All of my PVP encounters so far have been at the entrance of a dungeon. I'm more of a PVE guy. Been making decent money in Shame off Earth Elementals. Maybe if I get bored I'll try out the PVP aspect. There is certainly plenty of opportunity around entrances during prime time. Recall has saved my butt.
This game is definitely what you make of it. There's not really any goal for you to reach for unless you make it yourself.
Right now what I want to do is:
* Buy a house with a patio
* GM everything on my Mage, Dexer, Lumberjack, and Tamer.
* Amass wealth
Seeing the world is a lot of fun and going through the dungeons and experiencing them all is a good time. You can PvM for a long, long time and not run out of stuff to do. PvP can be fun if you don't care about losing your stuff (which you shouldn't), and the faction stuff will be fun to get into if you ever decide to PvP.
And of course, ganking noobs and being a murderer is always fun
Yeah, I got the 3 easy ones out of the way fencing, tact, anat so I could start making some money. Think they are supposed to make resist slightly easier next patch so I may wait until then to continue working magery because in the time it took me to go from 50 -> 80 magery I went from 60 -> 62 resist. Healing is also rather slow past 70, think I'm around 86 in that.
I talked to the GM today and he still doesn't know if he's going to change resist rates. I know he said a day or two ago that he was going to do it like today, but at this point he doesn't know. He likes where they are but is considering changing it so that people who don't macro can still gain decently.
So maybe you might want to wait, maybe not. Heh
Good to see so many playing we need to Look into joining up and creating a central location. I think we could have a ton of fun! Name is Scy and im going bard/dex to make some money first.
Looks like Destard is a midnight only thing bunch of red packs during normal times. And fag who never fight alone .
I may have to try making my provoker again. Along with my gm fisherman who got banned, Master Baiter. I didn't get into UO until just after Trammel went live. How much different is it than the old UO? Is it kind of like P99 is in comparison to EQ?
Just be forewarned it will be brutal, a free UO will bring the grief haha
Sort of, they went with the Renaissance era which is further along than some old-school shards, but it's still very much a "classic" UO experience. No Trammel/Felucca, no neon colors, etc etc.
I think you'll find that it's very much like you remember it, especially right now. The server is hopping with activity and the skill gain is fast enough that you'll be able to be effective relatively quickly and able to get into the fun stuff sooner rather than later.
Ha , I remember buying this from Electronic Boutique at my local mall. Going home and installing it then jumping in , asked a dude for help and he took me to Brit and said if you want to make money you should mine. So bought a pick axe which he told me how to do and followed him. Took me west of Brit and then he said bye. Not 5 secs later a big ass deamon is chasing me and he is saying "Die you fucking n00b" , i did and then my love for UO was born. Loved that game , played it till EQ went live.Tried playing it again , just could not get into it. But it sure was damn fun when i was playing it. Was a anti-pk , was fun delving into dungeons and looking for pks with my pet dragons. Also the server resets at the brit graveyard , played on the Great Lakes shard if i recall correctly.
I was hooked with the opening. haha, but I was so new when playing it that I became "dastardly" or whatever, by killing people at the GY above brit. Everyone was fighting, I figured it was okay. For like weeks I was like "Why the fuck does everyone attack me?!??!" haha.
So is bow/mage are hally/mage "superior" in this era?
Going to pick up anatomy+eval for defensive wrestling, does that count if I use archery?
Anyone else get constant gray flashes? Like my refresh rate is odd.
I have at times lithose, but I haven't had it happen in awhile, actually I believe it stopped when I changed some settings in razor someone posted on the uoforever forums. Windows 7/8 wasn't out when razor was made so it can cause some issues. This will also fix any crashes you may have been experiencing too, especially when alt tabbing through windows.
Right click your UOforever shortcut, click properties, then go to compatibility tab, and check both "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition."
But yeah, they upped resist gain 10%, but its still painfully slow, only at 66.5 still and haven't gotten a gain in 200 casts.
Anyone know a decent list of skills and their properties (Like bonuses) for the era forever is in?
Playing on server under same name.
I run Scrollmart by the yew moongate, and am working on building up a rune library in Moonglow atm.
The best way though is to play with a small group of friends and tackle harder monsters earlier in the game. 50 magery and blade spirits can go a long way,
Our guild was the first to place a house, first to place a second house (3rd on server) and I placed my personal house the next day, Saturday, near the mines just N of the Brit GY.
I was the second GM Blacksmith on the server, although Wayland kind of left right after reaching GM but is back again. I have a vendor two steps N of the Brit Moongate. Having a blast on the server so far and am making bank on my vendors.
Selling most items at a reasonable rate, 150 for Repair deeds, 175-500 for GM weapons, 200- 300 for GM shields, 2500 for GM Dexxer suit and 15k for GM plate.
Stop by Damaged Goods, I should GM tailoring/carpentry by the end of this week so I'll have a few more vendors then.
haha, damaged goods. I just bought your Katana yesterday.
Lol, yeah, I bought all your kryss' and spears twice and some repair deeds.
Sorry to noob up the thread but I just started playing for the first time a couple of days ago and I had some questions.
1. I'm mostly warrior with a bit of magery (Mace/Tact/Anat/Mage/Spell Resist/Healing/?). My young player status just dropped off and I'm wondering where I should go next for adventuring. I've spent most of my time in Britain or just outside in the Brit Graveyard/Dungeon but it is off limits now. I have a mount, some platemail from skeleton knights, a number of basic spells including G.Heal/Recall, and around 5-10k. I still have no idea about moongates or runestones though.
2. The Night Sight spell does not seem to be working for me. The dungeon under the Brit graveyard was dark as shit (can't even see the creatures only target markers/names) and there was no change with or without Night Sight. I do notice a difference when casting it above ground at night so I wasn't sure if this intended to only work outdoors or if there is a bug with the dungeon.
3. I read that mounts become bonded after a week so that they can be resurrected if killed. Is this week real time or game days and how often should I be feeding my horse.
4. Is there any crucial advice to avoid getting ganked as soon as I venture away from town? Items I should or should not have with me? For example I read that you should not carry keys to houses or boats as I assume the person who killed you could clean you out.
I have never played UO but I only am interested in emulations of older MMOs.
Is this something to skip if you've never experienced it? I love open world PVP and spend most of time playing a classic EQ PVP server for that reason.
Anyone willing to take me under their wing? Is the learning curve high?
Anyone have energy bolt for sale? I completely forget where to get it. Do I just need to get lucky and hope it spawns on a vendor?
I don't believe 6th circle spells can spawn on a vendor, you have to loot it from a mob or have a scribe make you one. Gargoyles, air elementals, and liches I believe can all drop it. A number of other mobs too I'm sure, but those are easily accessible/killable.
Swag if you're interested in old emulations and open world pvp then I wouldn't skip on UO. Just be prepared to die a lot and understand you may lose everything on your character at just about any given time.
2. I heard from several people that it doesn't work in dungeons. I don't ever use it I just crank up the contrast.
3. Not sure if they bond after a week but I know there are pet bonding deeds with the donation vendor.
4. Keep a recall scroll handy and just look for the signs of a ganker. low karma, rides up sees you rides away comes back with buddy, not wearing nice stuff and has a name like Dickface, etc etc But most of all don't worry about it, and expect it to happen often while you are gearing up. The best defense though is to roll with friends.
On a funny note, last night when I was restocking, 3-4 toons came up to me as I was putting stuff on my vendor. At first I thought they were just waiting for me to get done, as others have done in the past. Then I saw a Katana vanish from my inventory and realized I was being stolen from. I got out of there asap but the four guys kept trying to box me in Luckily I got away and ported back to my second house. Only lost about 1k-2k in items so it wasn't that bad but though it was rather funny.
Yeah i loaded it up yesterday , could not get a decent resolution to play with. Have a 24inch monitor , so was impossible using the default. Used Razor to force a resolution , still small just the screen got bigger and was seeing black on the sides of the play area. Woulda been nice to use the advanced client because it looked great as i tried it with a trial UO account. Or anyone know how i can get those settings and use them for this?
I was a miner in my early days , then switched to Blacksmithing. Made a nice nest egg , bought me the house that had the large entrance area with the 2 back rooms. Stock piled regeants all the while , then switched to magery with taming and bought 2 pet white dragons and then went and hunted pks. Was attending some player event and had my key/rune stone on me and got killed cause i afked for a sec and then had to make a mad dash and defend my home , the single most thrilling experience in all my gaming. Me and a friend made it in time to defend against 6 dudes , they did get over 6k black pearls and other reagents in that quantity and various large quantities of colored ingots. But they never did make it to the chests with the vang/invul weapons and armor. But as the fighting was going on , we killed a few them a few times me with magery and my friend being a archer. My dragons died , but as we were fighting my next door neighbors joined in the defense and more looters showed and it turned into one massive fucking brawl. We locked tables in front of the door so they couldnt get in and not one of them was smart enough to mark a rune in the house. All in all it was close to 30 people fighting for a good 2 to 3 hours. Did quit a few months after that , as EQ came along.

I miss UO until I load it up and try and play it again. Ugh, cannot handle the dated graphics and interface.
Just curious, I didnt get to play last night but are the goddamn fletching vendors back in the game yet? Pissing me off that I cant buy arrows and bolts in bulk, provisioner vendors usually only have 20-40 at a time.
1)Yeah, depending on your skill you probably want to look for things like ettins, ogres, and trolls. You can find them in a relatively safe location (little foot travel) on a fast enough respawn timer not too far sw of britain, if you find a river just starting you're in the right spot. Just nw of that location you can find gazers and gargoyles on a slower respawn timer. While you do have to be extremely careful with those its a good idea to work on magic casting mobs to work resist. Just whenever you are below about 60% health run out of range of the mob and heal up to full before reengaging, below about 60% health is risky because they could chain a couple of a spells in a row and kill you.
2)Multiple ppl are having this issue, I believe they are saying it is an issue with your client, only fix may be to do a complete reinstall.
3)Not really sure about the whole pet bonding thing, that came in after I quit UO back in the day. But I do know I died in my house while macroing and my horse was gone then the next time I logged out and back in he was there so I'm guessing that has something to do with it. I've gone days without feeding my horses and haven't had one go wild yet.
4)Stay off the roads! People can not pk you if they can not find you. Try to fight in less traveled places. If you're only fighting melee type mobs keep magic reflect (5th circle spell) up. Items you should have at a minimum besides your regs and equipment, etc is refresh/total refresh potions, greater cure potions, and at least a couple of "para boxes." Para boxes are pouches (can be purchased from provisioner) then you cast magic trap on them and you can open them when paralyzed to free yourself. Set potions to a hotkey and reequipping weapons to a hotkey and you can make a macro opening your "para box" and hotkey the macro so you can run at a moments notice. Get yourself a rune and mark it in britian, ask someone to do it for you if you can't cast the 6th circle spell mark.
Get yourself a rune book and place the rune inside, add some scrolls to the runebook, but use regs to cast recall when you can, you want to leave the scrolls in the runebook for emergencies like you're out of regs or you died and lost everything on you. If you are outside of guard protection and you have anything on you, you don't feel like losing immediately recall when you see another player's name appear on your screen, blue or not, about to kill a mob or not. If you have nothing you're afraid of losing feel free to stick around and see what happens.
Trust NO ONE! Think you're ok hunting liches near that other blue player because he hasn't attacked you yet? You're not, they could very easily just be waiting for a lich/mob to get you a little low and then they'll jump you or they could just be hoping you die so they can loot you. So always recall and bank your gold if you're not certain.

I know others have replied, but I'll throw my advice into the pot too.
2) You don't need the night sight spell anymore. In Razor on the general tab under Filters check "Light Levels". This will make it always daytime bright everywhere you go, including dungeons.
3) No clue about bonded stuff, but it would be a week real time.
4) See #1 about a recall macro. As long as you have regs you pretty much should not be able to be PK'd. For extra protection carry a small pouch and cast Magic Trap on it. If you get Paralyzed just open the pouch and it will hit you for ~4 points of damage but you will be able to run and hit your recall macro. Definitely do not carry your boat key with you, but you can carry your house key with you as that is blessed.
If you want more help in-game just PM me here or find me in IRC and I'll show you around some nice hunting spots or something. Same goes for anyone else that doesn't know what they're doing.
If pvp and being a badass is your only goal, then yeah, find a mentor and just macro up. But I think UO is a game that you can appreciate better if you experience it sort of holistically, and I'd advise you to look for other newbies and go make some mistakes.
Just an FYI. The guild in control of the cities accidentally set the taxes to 300%. So, don't buy regs in the normal towns. Vesper is the base price still, or Jhelom (Vesper's easier). Also, looks like they made a change, ebolt is now on all the vendors. I knew it was funky before, because the vendors had a chance to spawn every other spell outside ebolt. heh, so now every vendor has like 200 ebolt scrolls.
If you haven't played on any of the player run Ultima Online shards recently, I'll just let you know there's nothing special about this shard over the other shards and don't be mislead by their propaganda.
I admit, they took a great deal of effort to try to advertise their server, but even the video they created has nothing really special about it that wouldn't be in the default open source RunUO shard. The front page is probably violating the copyright of the Imanewbie comic, by stealing their work and pasting "Ultima Online Forever" on it, as if it was their own work.
A lot of the content of the website is actually copied from another shard (or from other sources illegally), and the shard is just an older shard that has been given a facelift to look like 'a new shard'. Furthermore most of the website is just propaganda to convince you there's something special and different about the shard, when there's not a single thing special about it.
What we really have here is an older shard that failed and now they're trying to make some money off it through the donation service. It's also why they have the donation thread created by a 'player' (lol) days after the shard released.
Last edited by Pseudo Random; 01-30-2013 at 09:10 PM.
I thought they announced they were going to have donation stuff before the shard launched?
Either way, like I told ppl posting from other free shards there, I and the vast majority of the ppl playing there don't care. I've played a few other free shards and I'm not still playing there for one reason or another, even if its just something as simple as I got bored. The reason why I'm playing on this free shard is because it is has a big population and more importantly it just launched. I really don't care that some people got their feelings hurt because they put a lot of hard work into something and the guy footing the bill turned around and made it something bigger so he wasn't losing money on it.
It was the same shit on the free shard I was playing on a few years back oh this shard did this or that shard's gm did that. All these free shards are aggressively competing with one another so will continuously run smear campaigns and advertise on other's websites. As long as it doesn't affect my gameplay I don't care.
Yeah they announced the donation stuff before it started. Np with me, just dont donate if you dont want to. It's free and has a large active population.
Some dude loaned me a boat so I am almost gm fishing but stupid serpents are a bitch.
Id like to recant my earlier statements. It took some adjusting to something polar opposite of the UO i'm used to playing.
What really matters in MMORPG's is the population it seems. The most enjoyable shard isn't exactly the "best" but the most populated.
Being #1 draft pick in football if nobody else plays but you isn't much fun, if you know what I mean :\
UOF is getting some serious heat and I love it. So much h8 going on from their success.
<haters gonna hate>
I know, just a pipe dream...but I can't imagine it would be that expensive for them to do, if private servers can do this much.

There are hundreds of shards out there that run a shard on a very similar era, and even some with hundreds of players.
Honestly, I would rather than EA didn't re-make it, since you know there would be even more micro-transaction crap we've seen in more recent F2P MMOs. Furthermore, EA has been terrible at adding content in a reasonable amount of time .
And we're discussing what would be cool, so I referenced UOF because everyone in this thread, about UOF, would understand what I meant when I said "this rule set."...Like saying "the rule set of p99" in an EQ discussion.
Meh. Best part about UO was all the little graphic rares, like fruit bowls...They would probably make a decent amount of money without making it pay to win. And as for content....Really no need. Just release the shard as a special ruleset and either make it F2P or charge something like 5$ a month for it. But essentially it would just be a PvP sandbox for nostalgia. I have no idea if it would be profitable, but without worrying about content, I imagine the overhead would be tiny.Honestly, I would rather than EA didn't re-make it, since you know there would be even more micro-transaction crap we've seen in more recent F2P MMOs. Yeah, but I wonder how many players have played across all the free shards (Even if they don't currently play). I don't know if there is enough of a market to make it profitable....But I'd imagine it would be some decent numbers (Maybe 10k+)...Again, that's tiny potatoes in the grand scheme of things BUT they already have the 3d client made. I can't imagine it would cost a lot to update the UI and squash some bugs. And while we think a 500-1000 player shard is a smashing success, that is not even worth pissing on to them.
This thread is making me nostalgic for my glory days in classic/T2A UO as a bard provoker trolling the shit out of people. How long does it take to get this up and running from scratch and how clueless would I be as someone who a) hasn't played since...2000? and b) only played classic and T2A (before they did all that stupid crazy shit)?
So I met a guy who found an abandon boat and been using that to GM fishing and work up magery. Havent found one MIB yet. Several lvl 1 t-maps and some nets
You guys in Yew looking for more people? I dont get to play much during the week. Would like to set up show somewhere I won't get jumped every day for fishing items i find.
