The world is divided into two camps, those who acknowledge the greatness of the Luther and those who deserve a visit from
Season 3 is filming now. If you've never watched it you still have time to fix your sin before it returns.

I don't know who she is, honest!
I keep forgetting to put this on series watch, and when I do manage to catch a stray episode I get a brutal reminder of how good this is. Going to have to track down some series DVD on this one.
I can't wait for this season. Luther has been one of my favorite shows to come out of the BBC.
They're making a 3rd season? Fucking fantastic! I try to explain this show to people at work and they're like "oh that dude from The Wire is English?", completely missing the utter genius of the show. Looking forward to it.
I got notice of this show from a friend, and I have to say it is one of the good recommendations I have received for a tv show.
Got around to watching this and man was it worth it.
Goddamit, I thought this meant Season 3 was here!
It blows me away that 10 measly episodes of a show are better than many others that have run for 5+ seasons of 20 or more episodes. Season 3 had better have more than 4 fucking episodes!
Friend and I were talking about Alice, debating whether she's good looking or not, and I hit upon the fact that she's got the ultimate duckface. Seriously, look at that profile picture and tell me that upper lip doesn't look just like Daffy Duck's bill. Still, she better fucking be back this season, show wasn't the same without her. And God did I hate that fat, ugly hooker daughter. And her mom. If both had died in magnificent ways I would have cheered.
Sorry Vvoid, the answer to your question about the series length was in the announcement trailer I apparently disgracefully missed out of the OP. Will fix that, in the meantime...
Still, four episodes of this show are better than 13 of a lot of others.
It has been strongly implied that these will be the last ones as well so I wouldn't rule out a particularly dark end to the series. Luther & Alice living in Bali or somewhere after murdering the porn queen and her allies would be fine by me though.
Just presuming they feature the porn queen again, the actress they used in the 2nd 2 parter of series 2 is a pretty big UK name so I'd be surprised if she didn't reappear. Considering they stabbed him through the hand I doubt he will have forgotten about her either!
I am glad to see it is getting another season. I am hoping it ends with luther and the murder pixie going off into the sunset with each other. Every thing she tells luther turns out to be true as much as he wishes the world is not like it is. It is pretty sad when the derranged psycho is probably the one person really willing to work in luthers best interest and not try to fuck him over.
well and given they are all likely in the 1.5 to 2 hour range per episode it works out to a similar play time as a 13 episode season.
looks fucking sweet
Alice's voice early on while Luther sheds a tear and then her waving in the police station, oh jesus... Is it July yet?
Presumably she still has a warrant out on her for escaping the looney bin so she must have some nefarious scheme in mind to help him.
I like the look of the presumably two baddies we saw in the trailer as well, wonder if they are doing 2 x 2 episode stories again.
I was glad to see the announcement this morning. Can't wait!
The first case is all about Astro!
Luther investigates the death of an internet troll, with no shortage of suspects.
Less than one week to go...
Awesome first episode!
I did wonder why she didn't ring the police though when she was ready to do it over a cat. Then again pure panic in that situation is forgiveable I suppose, posthumously at least
Loved the subtle nod to Alice. She's not in the credits so I wonder if she pops up in the second two parter if it is indeed 2 x 2 again.
I was so disappointed that Alice didn't show up at some point. I love Alice so much that I would *almost* consider seeing that shitty ass Lone Ranger movie just for her. But I know she wouldn't really be Alice, and she won't be enough to erase the terribleness of another Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter shitfest.
Maybe Alice will gut the new love interest There's got to be something sideways going on there, that was way too convenient and easy. I mean sure, Luther is an attractive stud (no homo), but that was way too easy regardless.
Did you notice the postcards? She's deffo still part of his life for him to have gone to the trouble of not only keeping them but putting them on display.
It also amused me the internal affairs types are so convinced he's a fucked up copper they believe he's done her in!
No, I totally missed these postcards you're referring to. I don't doubt she's going to be in this season, but with only 4 episodes, and this being the last season I think(?), I was hoping she'd play a prominent role in all 4.
In this weeks episode when he gets home to the new flat and takes his coat off he first stands up the photograph and then sits down and briefly looks at the mantelpiece where there are 10+ postcards lined up on it, you can see Monte Carlo and other sunny places along with a Roadrunner postcard mixed in with them. Seeing his face you can tell looking at them brings him pleasure.
I do remember seeing all those post cards now that you mention the Roadrunner one, I was just too dense to grasp their significance That happens to me from time to time!
I love that show, as much as it bothers me sometimes that the BBC does these short series when I want more. I think it might be what makes them so good. They make the serie as long as it need to be to tell the story they want to tell. They are not bound by having to have a set number of episodes.
Even in North America, a lot of the great shows are on cable where seasons are 12 episodes versus 22 on regular tv. In general it means less filler, and just better tv.
I love Idris Elba, he's good in pretty much everything he does. He'll always be Stringer Bell to me though.
Another great episode, but...
Where the fuck is Alice?
I turned off as soon as it said Next so no idea if she was in the trailer for the second two parter.
The scene at the end in the dingy dodgy office, oh my. After that recording Luther is going give Justin a big manly hug!
I hope that isn't the end of that storyline though, it seemed the other guy was giving up a little too easily but maybe I misinterpreted that.
Alice, my love, wherefore art though?
Fuck me. This show is so good, I hate it sometimes.
Anyway, on a different note, please let Alice be the whirlwind, please let Alice be the whirlwind.
And FUCK the BBC for that preview, I'd left the remote out of reach and I saw the first ten seconds before I could switch it off. BAH.
When they showed his new lady friend entering the house near the end I was 99% convinced Alice was going to be sat on the settee waiting for him.
I don't hate the new girlfriend now, but I always envisioned Luther walking off into the sunset with Alice. Hopefully she beats the fuck out of the internal affairs guy, the new girlfriend is killed/traumatized by the bad guy, and Alice tells him something like, "Let's grow old on a beach somewhere."
Nooooooooooo, stick a fork in it, it's done
*sheds manly tear*
Will comment more when the yanks have eztv'd it.
Loved the ending!
Pretty good season and closure to the BBC series, though the upcoming movie (assuming they're still doing it) won't be the same without Justin =/
Alice was perfect, as usual.
I doubt there'll ever be a movie so it will be a nice surprise if one turns up. That means, to me at least, this was the end of Luther.
Looking back I'm really disappointed Justin died, don't get me wrong it was a great plot point and moved the story in a direction none of us were expecting, but my end of Luther dream had Ripley being Luther 2.0 and running his own team under Schenk
Talking of Schenk, his face to face with George at the car Alice sprung Luther from was fantastic. Schenk rarely gets to show his characters balls of steel but he damn well did there.
I didn't think he had killed Erin after shooting George, the shot being heard offscreen being the key to that. Presuming he leg shot her like Luther although it wasn't too clear from the ambo shot at the end.
As I said earlier, I fucking loved the ending. Alice accepting that of the two of them, she was the one who should die was a great moment as she had no idea the snivelling little woman next to her would turn out to have some strength after all. Luthers look at her as he thought she was about to die and then bam, Mary hits the shotgun and Alice nails him and then apologises while grinning at Luther
Him throwing his coat away at the end symbolised the end of the characters for me, they will run off to Berlin or wherever and hopefully get his leg looked at :P
There was a brief look at a new David Morrissey drama shown before Luther started, maybe that will fill the new Luther & Alice sized hole in my life.
I was a little bummed at first, until they started doing the mid-credits scenes, and then I was happy. I particularly liked the jacket of course. I know they left it a little vague on purpose, and we all pretty much have come to the same conclusion as to what is happening next, but I would have liked a little bit more concrete indication that Luther really was leaving Mary and everyone else behind to go be with Alice. Perhaps her saying something like, "Here's your passport" or something would have been perfect.
I'm still fucking bummed that it is over though. I'm not sure another Alice-like character will capture me quite the way she did. I mean, I fucking despised her at first. It's tough to make me love a character that I originally hated without changing her one iota, but they managed it somehow. Which is why she's so awesome. And of course Luther himself...well, we all know why he's so great, not worth getting into.
Pour some out for our homey Justin too. Poor guy.
Great end to the series. Sadly, it has me doubting the movie will be made.
Bloody great interview with Idris Elba and it repeats something I read a few days ago but didn't dream might happen: Talk of a prequel movie showing how he broke out of the rank and file and became the copper we know and love. The original season 1 cast would be back, with one obvious exception...
Anyways, enjoy http://collider.com/idris-elba-luthe...uel-interview/
I didn't read the interview yet, but it seems there is no way Alice would be a part of it, which kind of ruins it for me. I mean, Idris Elba is great and I'd watch just about anything he was in, but Luther without Alice is only great Luther, not awesome Luther.
really late to the party on this one. i just marathoned the third series tonight and i thoroughly enjoyed it. im sad to see it go but im more than happy it had an ending. so many shows just stop without any finale and they leave you there with blue balls. anyway. good stuff. though i would not be me if i did not have a few nitpicks. but the only one i will say is the london PD are seriously lacking. seriously, those guys couldnt even reach the paragon towers before a man who has been shot in the leg. running in the streets, til finally commandeers a car and rushes up about a billion steps to have a showdown with marwin? haha. they are worse than the miami pd in the dexterverse..
anyway, gwen i saw your little comment about me in the first episode. you cheeky bastard.
Final episode of season 2 is one of the greatest, most tense episode of any show ever. The show' s willingness to kill off major characters at any time takes away they feeling you get with most shows where you figure "Well they're a major character and it's not a season finale so they'll be fine"
Only complaints about the series
There were multiple people with the box cutters and they weren't slashing everyone close to them. I can just chalk it up to Brits bring pussies, I guess as it's still one of the best episodes I've ever seen
Idris Elba returns to Luther set to start filming on two special episodes as fans rejoice
Idris Elba has taken to Twitter to tell fans that Luther has begun filming.
Elba's maverick detective John Luther is heading back to TV with two special episodes set for BBC One later this year and fans couldn't be happier.
Been so long, I dont even remember how last season ended, only thing I really remember is his partner getting blasted by a shotgun
I forget how the actual case ended up, but he sort of walked off into the sunset with Alice. Which I thought was fairly perfect, but I'm not going to complain about more, particularly if Alice is actually in it again.
We need to spoiler shit on a show that aired a couple years ago ?

Two days out from the special. Can't wait.
Idris Elba on the Return of 'Luther,' His Ongoing Therapy Sessions
The extended special (which actually runs 165 minutes, with commercials) begins with Luther holed up in a small holiday cottage on Englandís idyllic south coast, his tweed coat nowhere to be seen, his trademark silver Volvo mothballed.
Great premiere, didnt know Ygritte was on this show now
Really really hope that somehow Alice is not really gone.
Do they really want to replace Alice with that other girl? Gah, that sucks.
meh wasn't really impressed with the season 4 two episode specials. Luther literally did nothing in the first episode. The new blonde chick is boring and lame compared to Alice. Fuck Alice dying in a car accident, that shit is weak as British Gun control laws, but a (maybe) fakeout for a show that only airs every 2 or 3 years is terrible.
Season/series 1 of Luther is brilliant, everything after that is pretty meh. You need a good villain for a good crime serial, some rando virgin geek squad techie who also happens to be an expert bomb maker and dissection expert does not fit the bill.
What show, besides Fargo, was better this year?
nathan for you
better call saul
a ton of comedies, and probably a few more i missed/haven't watched yet like empire, jonathan strange, all the comic book shows, etc...
