Cannot wait. No show brings the badass as much as Spartacus.
Starts Jan 25th.
Gaius Claudius Glaber is dead. Many months have passed since his defeat, and the rebel army, led by Spartacus and his generals Crixus, Gannicus and Agron, continue to amass victories over Rome. With the rebel numbers swelling to thousands of freed slaves, it has become a force that has started to challenge even the mighty armies of Rome.
Spartacus is more determined than ever to bring down the entire Roman Republic. Following the death of Ashur, Naevia and Crixus fight as one with newfound strength and determination. And Gannicus, always seeking to
embrace life to the fullest, shares his bed with the beautiful and dangerous Saxa.
Together, the rebels engage in one bloody skirmish after another and prepare for the inevitable: a full out war with Rome.
The Roman Senate turns to its wealthiest citizen, Marcus Crassus, for aid. A powerful, strategic politician, he respects his opponent and refuses to make the same mistakes Glaber and his predecessors have. With a young and fiercely competitive Julius Caesar as an ally, Crassus is determined to crush Spartacus and his rebellion.
The epic conclusion of a legendary journey, Spartacus: War of the Damned will unleash a battle unlike anything ever seen before.
Cannot wait. No show brings the badass as much as Spartacus.
This season is going to be unreal.
oh, not sure how I missed this show. I'll have to check this out.
It's a shame there is so much interesting Roman history that it's not practical for an all encompassing show to be created based on the Romans. That would be a truly epic historical fantasy fiction show ;p
I don't think the new guy was shitty at all, to many people just couldn't get past that he wasn't the original I think. Frankly no one could have filled the role.
Yeah, not sure why you're calling him shitty.
It took some adjusting to getting used to not-Andy, but he's fine. Midway through the season I forgot.
The replacement to Naevia ended up being worse than Andy. Still doesn't compare, but he did a pretty damn good job last season.
Andy's replacement did fine considering what he had to fill in for. Anyways, they should probably title this "Spartacus: This season EVERYONE DIES!!!"
New guy is fine. New Naevia is atrocious
New guy really is fine. The writing changed noticably. It didn't get worse, it didn't get better. It just changed. I think people blame the new guy for that, but it ain't his fault. I think it would have been about the same with Andy -- it was the tone itself that changed between seasons.
It's really kind of hard to see how the final season will be interesting with Lucy Lawless gone and the Praetor defeated. Not that oiled up goreporn has to be high theater or anything. But my bet is that it's gonna be 8 episodes of somewhat tedious melodrama and then 3 episodes of what people actually watch the show for and then 1 episode where everyone (who's still alive) gets crucified.

I agree about new Naevia...holy shit is she terrible.
We had this discussion on FOH ad naseum. Basically is that it was originally planned to go 5+ seasons, but without Andy now they're just not feeling it anymore. New dude just isn't the lead character that Whitfield was. The show is good despite him, not because of him. With Oenameus, Batiatus, Lucretia, and Glabor all dead, they've gotta count on new dude to carry the show, and he's quite frankly just not that likeable.
Especially if they planned on following the arc of history, with Crixus going somewhere else to pillage and plunder. You really think that new dude would be able to carry the show? Highly, highly unlikely.
I said it on FOH and I'll say it again here: the biggest mistake they made was killing off Batiatus. Spartacus was always the most boring character on the show (even when Andy was portraying him). The best parts were the intrigue and scheming of Batiatus. Last season had a lot less of that with no Batiatus and having so many scenes focusing on the wilderness/temple where the slaves were hiding.
They need to give us a Gannicus spin-off covering the time between his freedom and joining Spartacus. He is a much more interesting character and the actor is much more charismatic than new-Spartacus.
New actor isn't great, but I don't think he totally wiffed either.
Last season should be good. Hope Starz goes all out with the budget.
Yeah, new actor is mediocre. He's not as charismatic as Andy, but he's by no means why the season lost some of it's luster. It's as others have said, without Batiatus playing off Asher's scheming, there was a critical element missing in the whole subterfuge of the house. Asher tried to carry it with Glaber but lets face it, the elf doesn't have the "mastermind" presence that John Hannah did. Hannah had that unique quality of being vile, but still scrappy/smart enough that you rooted for him against his outside enemies. He was the Walter White of Spartacus.
Hopefully, the guy playing Ceasar and Crassus can recapture that quality. I really hope the show focuses on the political aspects/back stabbing of the hunt for Spartacus and the early formation of the first trimunitive. That could be done similar to how the politics of Capua played out--which, as said, really added to the show.

I think they shot themselves in the foot with Gannicus. He should have been cast as Spartacus as he's the only actor cast thus far that has the ability to be both believable and likable. The new dude is trying too much to be like Whitfield that it's too noticeable that he's not, and I can't get past it. The show isn't strong enough, or good enough, to make up for it. Sad really, since the first and prequel/mini season were so good. Once Andy died and they killed off Batiatus, the show took a nose dive and hasn't yet recovered.
I will agree, killing Batiatus was a mistake and a waste of a great character.
The strength of show isn't in the political aspect, it's in the blood, sand and titties. If you want something closer to the real deal, the only alternative is Rome. It doesn't hurt that Rome > everything else.
I think I'll wait until the show ends and then check back here to see if it's worth watching.
Batiatus, Glaber and the rest of the Capua elite made this show. Period.
I cant find a link for it yet but I believe it was a producer for the show that said they fucked up and wanted to have more seasons but they handcuffed themselves when they made season 1 end with them leaving the ludus. He said he would have preferred if they stayed in the Ludus another season. Now having this based off of history he said he couldnt make the other story arcs drag on for longer then 1 season a piece.
AFAIK thats why its so short.
The cgi is clown shoes compared to 300.
Tits, your're right, I can see those anywhere and don't really add any value to the show. Nor do the extended sex scenes. Reminds me of Dennis' movie pitch about Dolph Lundgren, "Action, full penetration, action, full penetration, action, penetration, action, penetration..."
Yes, I know I used the phrase, "semi-hard knowledge".
You've already flipped completely on the rest of your position, so I'll just stand back and let you do the work on the rest of it.
I haven't flipped anything son. The show is decent, but is nothing more than the first season and the prequel. Once they killed Batiatus, they effectively killed the only interesting narrative they were capable of telling. Andy's death sucked, but if the story was better, it wouldn't be a problem.
If there were no titties and gfx super gore, no one would watch Spartacus. I personally don't give a shit either way about the titties or the gore, I was stating that is the only hook the show has anymore.
I am not interested in watching fake political intrigue about something that wants to be taken seriously as a historical retelling of Spartacus. There's a much better story in his motivations and having this wave of change become corrupted by personal gain.
But please, misunderstand what I'm saying, put words into my mouth and continue to white knight your favorite show.
I don't know where you got this fucking idea that it wants to be taken seriously as a historical retelling of Spartacus, because basically no one involved with the production of the show has ever said, claimed, or implied as much.
But please, continue embarrassing yourself here.
"We have two fantastic historical consultants, Aaron Irvin and Jeffrey Stevens. They are instrumental in our attempt to remain as historically accurate as possible."
Nice try though, bro.
Link the whole quote, shit for brains.
http://www.whedon.info/Steven-DeKnig...ood,35929.htmlWe have two fantastic historical consultants, Aaron Irvin and Jeffrey Stevens. They are instrumental in our attempt to remain as historically accurate as possible. However, Spartacus : Blood and Sand is designed first and foremost as entertainment. I’ve often said that while we may bend history, we try to never break it. But I will always opt for what delivers the most dramatic impact over a strict adherence to historical fact. When I do stray, Aaron and Jeff point it out – often loudly and passionately. They deconstruct each script down to the very syllable, and no inaccuracy escapes their attention. Their input has been invaluable, even when story or budget force us away from 100% adherence to their wisdom on the subject.
Oh, look, story or budget or opting for dramatic purpose trumps fucking history.
Seriously, just stop.
Please keep getting your jimmies rustled about your favorite show in the world. It's obvious you can't handle the criticism.
As an aside, how's your strawman company going? Your channels must be stuffed seeing as you had no angle of entrance.
Let me ask you this, Internet Shrink, where did I state that I personally watched the show for those reasons? I would assume you took me stating the shows strength lies in it's gore and titties meant that I also watched for those reasons, and then created your own reality to glorify your needy ass ego.
While you have interesting ideas in some other threads, your obsession with being both wrong and obnoxious is waning in the humor I find in it. Try harder or give up bro.

This thread is quite retarded.
Beef, your talking shit. Spartacus is only as good as it is because of the political scheming and plots. If I wanted to watch only gore porn I'd rent Saw or Hostel or something. Or watch something with no plot like 300. Spartacus shines because the characters are all pretty fucking demented.
How you can fucking say the Ilythia/Baby/C-Section plot wasn't fucking awesome I don't know. Not to mention Ashur scheming the whole fucking time. I agree that the show is missing batitatus but to say its only good for it's Violence/Tits is retarded beyond belief.
Once they killed Batiatus, I just didn't feel the show had anything left for me because the other antagonists are so one-note.
The reason I deride the gore and titties is because without a strong narrative and characters to pull me in, the gore and titties cheapen the whole experience. I just don't give a shit about Ilythia or Ashur. Replacement Spartacus does an admirable job, but the whole thing seems so flat. WTB another prequel with Batiatus and Gannacus.
Again, me, personally, I don't care for the shows low-fi gore and titties, I'm just stating that for everyone I know that watches the show and loves it, that's the number one thing that they talk about or care about, now that Batiatus is not in the show. It's footprint is too big.
You guys all know you're going to watch! So let's just stop...=P ha
Seriously tho, we could really use another show like Rome. I understand these shows cost a ton to make but there is so much history put there people would eat up.
after Andy got sick and the delay for him to get better, then he sadly died.
I kinda lost instrest in this, tried to watch it with new Spartcus but he does not have the Charisma that Andy did to lead so skipped most of it.
So how many shows will this last Season be?
Im hopeing like 10 or so, to take me up till when Game Thrones season 3 starts.
I thought the new guy was fine but the show sort of sucked last season regardless. As others have said, Batiatus was the real star of the show IMO and with him gone it's just not that compelling. I will still watch the season, but I'm kind of glad it's the last one and my expectations are low, particularly since the next part of the story is all big battle scenes which I'm sure Starz won't have the budget to make very well.
the focus shouldn't be on how poorly the current and last season's cast performed... it should be how WELL andy and john hannah did their jobs. Andy was and always be a legend. he wasn't the best actor on the planet but he was just so fricking charasmatic you couldn't help but get behind him. john hannah as well was just amazing. i LOVE ashur, but compared to batiatus, he just felt so... small time... again, that's not because ashur wasn't a great character... he was... but batiatus was that much more.
same with new spartacus. i don't really enjoy him. not that i have anything personal against him... and it's easy to look at him and just scream "YOU'RE NOT ANDY GO AWAY!" but he wasn't BAD... it was just i wasn't invested in him. i was invested in andy. i really feel like if andy hadn't died we'd be looking at season 2 much differently. the arc between spartacus, crixus, and eonamaous (sp?) was good. it was good character development... it just fell flat because you have no choice but to identify with characters who are not really at the top of their game. which sucks because when we last SAW crixus and eonamaous, they were fricken titans. in season 2 they were 2 guys trying to find their place again after turning on everything they knew and accepted as truth. so of course they are lost, and i really enjoyed what they went through because of it. if andy was still around, we would have had him to latch onto as the guy who still has stuff going on, but he's got hope and drive. it's hard to identify that with the new spartacus because we're all still stuck on andy going through all these trials and then this douche comes in and thinks he can reap the benefits?
as far as the debate goes... the tits and gore and all that are JUST as important to the story as the political maneuverings. you take away one of those and the show topples on itself as either a Rome clone or an r rated made for syfy movie. the show is what it is because of the vulgarity. but it's also what it is because of all the politics and backstabbing.
I just finished watching the second season. The show definitely misses Andy. New guy just wasn't as good, especially during his Braveheart speeches.
The first season was the best.
For those debating ~ just watch the first season. There are a whole lot worse things to see and the drama/action is good.
When does this come out?
erff to people wishing Spartacus was more like HBO's Rome. Two totally different animals. Just be happy this show isnt as bad as Starz Camelot.
Camelot was pretty painful to watch. Wanted it to be good so badly, couldn't make it through the whole season though.
I could not get used to the new Spartacus at all, let a lone Naevea... Crixus and Gannicus are carrying the show for me. No doubt I will be watching, but I will still have that bleh feeling every time I see Liam Mcintyre...
Final season cant wait
I have enjoyed every season. Can't wait to see what is in the final one.
Hey Beef, how about that historical accuracy?
So, by now it's obvious that Cut was right and Starz is playing fast a loose with it. I'm glad that they are choosing to replace Batiatus' political backstabbing and power grabs with Crassus. The vacuum of politics in the second season really hurt the show. I hope this guy can fulfill that subtle mastermind role.

If anyone here has Directv and doesnt have STARZ, the first episode is free on audience network this saturday, think Dish is doing the same free preview.
The first episode of this season is already ondemand for me. going to watch now. I have comcast.
Edit..just watched it. Not bad! I don't want to spoil anything but the one pArt where you Gannicaus laughing in the background cracked me up.

I'm excited. Really liked the first episode. Crassus is going to be pretty badass to watch. Couple parts were pretty cheesy (Opening scene with spartacus going in 1vAll, Spartacus throwing the spear to finish off the last rider, The double decapitation of the two generals) overall, definitely looking forward to this season.
I had to double take because I swear Crassus' wife or w/e looks very identical to Illythia.
Episode one set a nice pace, and this season looks promising.
Yeah, loved the first episode. Crassus is going to be awesome. Way fucking better than Glabber.
I found myself being more ok the new Naevia more after that episode last night, she felt like a better fit in the blood/mud covered fight sequences. Im having trouble picturing the original actress pulling it off. I also loved how Crassus wasnt the same sort of condescending, overconfident prick that Glabber was, he will prove a great counter to Spartacus as the season goes on.
Crassus is a bad-ass and Not-Andy-Whitfield is beginning to own the role.
Crassus is too much of a bad-ass, I was really impressed. The problem is this... Wasn't this season suposed to be about Cezar, so they can continue with a Cezar-centric spin-off ? If Crassus is too much of a bad-ass, Cezar will look lame, and the spin-off will be lame... Fuck !
Didn't know they were making a spin off. That's awesome.
Indeed Crassus is an awesome character and I think with him as the antagonist, this season will be great.
Crassus is such a bro <3
They really upped the gore this season, which is pretty incredible considering it was already one of the most violent TV shows I've ever seen.
Good stuff, though. Gannicus is still my favorite character. When he dies, I hope it's after a binge of wine and women and surrounded by dead Romans.
Just watched this. Holy fuck was that a sweet opening episode. By far the best of the entire series. Really pumped for this season. I like pretty much all the featured characters. What are the odds Blondie fucks Crassus' kid?
slim seeing as its her son i believe. but weirder things have happened on tv
I think it's more likely the son has sex with his father's ultra-hot slavegirl.
Went into this with some hesitation - but was pretty impressed. If they can keep this kind of pace up it will be a memorable final season.
This episode basically made Crassus the new protagonist of the show for me. I'm now rooting for the Romans.
Poor Crassus does all the work, but gets none of the glory.
If only this was the type of show they could uncancel...
Which high profile character they killing off this season?
Every time I think I'm done with this show they air a decent episode. I appreciate the depiction of the slave army as not being entirely noble during the sacking of the city; although, the spontaneous slaughtering of a grain store merchant seemed a bit out of place/convenient.

This season is amazing so far. The character (and actor) of Spartacus is really coming into his own and is a massive improvement over how he was acted and portrayed last season.
Solid first two episodes. Btw, what the fuck did Caesar have that slave do to his junk?
Two weeks in row,God dam was epic.
