I've been checking up on Uthgard ever since they shut the servers down and it looks like the 1.65 remake is headed into open beta.
https://uthgard.org/‘We’ve come down a long road together’ – you will remember these words well when we announced the ‘Revamp’ of our server in January 2014. It was at this time that we decided to change our path, to take a new road in the hope to find ourselves at a better and healthier destination. The path we chose was longer than anticipated and came with many bumps along the way and thus we would like to apologise for the delay. This has caused many of you to be upset and at times doubt us and we cannot blame you for this. But the project has been and is very much in our hearts now and for the foreseeable future; we aim to be more transparent about our efforts in the future and improve our community communication. Apologies aside, we are happy to announce that the end of the road is in sight, the vision of taking the Dark Age of Camelot community back to its glory days is near. And now we need one final push – but this requires not just the staff; not our internal testers, but you: the community.
We would like to invite you to the open beta for Uthgard. You will be able login to the servers once that countdown at the top of this page reaches zero.
Some of you may be concerned about the idea of a ‘Beta’. Let us reassure you that this is a necessary final step for us as we work towards our grand reopening of the server. And you should not think of this as ‘the server is still far away’. On the contrary, we hope that all major issues are resolved and instead this reveals any minor undiscovered issues that require a quick fix. Of course slightly larger bugs may be discovered and thus we will need the time to resolve these. But we can give you reassurance that we are launching this BETA now for one reason and one reason only; to get our server up and to get it back up and running ASAP. All characters will be wiped at the end of the BETA: this is to allow a clean start for all on the relaunch of the server.
We will outline all the details you will need in order to access the server and also give you all the relevant information in order for this beta to be a success. This requires bug reports (following the correct procedure) and honesty from our players. Our internal testers have done all they can but as a small team and only being human they may have missed some key issues with the server. This is a huge step for us all to take – we don’t just want a stereotypical freeshard we want a server and for this we need you our loyal community old and new.
So we want to invite *you* to test everything that you can.
Here are some of the key features that we want tested throughout this beta, and until we reach a satisfactory level of completion with these projects, the server will remain in a beta state:
Login procedure: We want to ensure that it is easy to connect, and that no errors are to be found in this procedure
Progression: We want to ensure that progression is as close to 1.65 as possible, which means that we want to make sure that players are given the right amount of exp, the right amount of money, items, realm points etc while leveling. If you notice anything that looks like very slow progression, or very fast progression. Please let us know so we can adjust drop rates, xp gain, etc.
Pathing: We are the first freeshard to provide our players with fully functioning pathing, which we are very proud of. However this also means that there is a high risk of bugs still being present in our pathing system.
Class abilities: All classes have been completed while we were down, and while our testers have done a great job finding bugs with the affected classes, we want to make sure that they are working correctly. On top of that all classes have received new realm abilities, these also need thorough testing, as bugged abilities here can have major impact on the game balance.
RvR system: Our entire keep and relic system (along with our siege weapons) have been reconstructed. We need all functionalities of these to be tested as much as possible.
Exploitable bugs: While this could apply to all of the above, we are very interested in getting rid of all exploitable bugs. While it might be fun for a few players to abuse these bugs, it is important for the servers wellbeing that we get rid of these bugs as soon as possible. If we want Uthgard to live for a long time, we need to make sure no one can get an unfair advantage by abusing bugs. This might be the most important issue to investigate, and we hope our testers will do their best to find as many of these as possible and report them. Some examples of exploit: (a) a monster spawns in a place where it can be attacked but will not attack back. (b) an item can be salvaged for very high amount of materials.
The duration of the open beta phase will be entirely dependent on how quickly players find, test and report bugs. Staff will do their upmost to resolve any issues ASAP for the full relaunch.
You gain no advantage by participating in this BETA – all your characters, accounts and items will be deleted at the end of the test before the actual relaunch.
So, what do we need from you now? Get ready, read through this page, and follow the "Getting Started" instructions as soon as that countdown reaches zero.

Fun! I actually re-upped regular daoc last week just to run around a little. Still a gigantic pain to get the controls right, but fun.
Any idea if they are just going to stick to the classic geography, or do they plan on putting out the expansion content?
Nnngh. I may have to roll up on this.
Updated main post with Relaunch video. That DAOC theme music.. hit me right in the nostalgia feels. Going to be rolling Hibernia.
One of the best parts about Uthgard is no buff bots/2 boxing. Creates a proper community when you have to actually rely on other people to get things done.

Whats a good melee for Hibernia?
I would say Blademaster or Hero.

I hear they finally got animists, bone dancers etc working
Animist was pure lawls and quite a class
No buff bots allowed, I think using patch 1.65 and the Old RA's. I only played DAOC briefly (midgard) but would not mind playing this as I have nothing else to play at the moment
Super excited for this. It's been a long wait. DAOC Origins/Genesis server was shit. Hopefully the beta doesn't last super long.
Some of the PvE mobs like Megalodon were cool. Not sure if classic or era appropriate tbh, I'm not the DAoC beard around these parts so much.
Server was good and no buff bots is the best system imo, but it really turned into a private 8v8 club and I could never find any real kind of mass pvp. Just people taking their ball and going home if they lost... or even won (gg no re)... Quite a grind for max level and a full template just to run into that again. If the community changes and allows mass pvp / doesn't play this "pleb" denial shit from realm points, it will be great. I mean what did they have to ever prove, these top dudes would stomp groups every single time regardless of their realm rank. Just some retarded shit I guess. I'd only play a stealther here if I did play .
If the are using the old Realm Abilities, everyone will run Blademasters, Berserkers and Mercenaries because the Charge RA which coupled with Determinations makes them pretty much immune to CC. Charge gives CC immunity as well as the equivalent of run 3(?) plus sprint for 10 to 15 seconds.
half ogre merc with charge makes me want this vidya again

But lets not hate on the stealth game play and "adding" on their gay lil fights, that's worth playing if you're looking for something
If anyone is interested in rolling Hib there is an American time zone guild being formed up primarily with people from P99. I'll be playing with them come server launch.
DAOC: Uthgard BETA IS COMING! - Project 1999
That looks like an entire thread of god damn mez breakers! Alb will have more targets and if necro works, the best pling bar none.
Can't change your mind Strife? Or can you vouch for these guys?
Are you wanting to roll Alb? Maybe I will make merc? not sure. I heard Alb might have rough RvR grouping because most groups won't have a reliable endurance buff cause paladins aren't very wanted?
Vanquish (Alb) is going the raid/mass rvr route and all classes welcome.
Alb also has some pretty retarded group RA, but Hib has group purge.
Mass RVR wizards should have a wrecking volcanic pillar focus. Paladin chants got 1500 range change or something I read on their boards?

Installed etc.. Kind of torn between what realm/class to play now ;(
My biggest surprise is that official DAOC is still getting patched.
I ran around near Howth as a nature hippy and fought lots of spraggons and curmudgeons and rat boys and mudmen and AFTER ME LUCKY CHARMS little assgoblins. Good fun!
Definitely a bit harder at lower levels. Even cons were a loss unless you sprint away and blast em a bit.
Wouldn't mess with anything but blues at lvl 1 lol
There's no in game map so this shit is nightmare difficulty. At least for me having only played Alb once before.
Where are the servers physically? Last time I tried playing I'd get a good 1-2 sec lag during peak hours. Has any of that changed?
Somewhere in Eurocucktown I think
No lag here from US East
I think its located in Luxembourg. Server had 1400 online last Sunday, not bad for an open beta. Population seems to be 45% mid, 30% hib, 25% alb
Hmm... Trying to decide between pally and theurg. Took a pally to 50 on Genesis, or whatever it was called before the name change. Was fun and obv pally is a super needed class, but I've always had theurg envy when I played other realms.
Just dinged level 4 on my Necro (albion), I will be on till I pass out tonight and until they wipe the server. Name is Orcus in game.
I will be starting a Alb cleric at some point here too, no clue when but whenever. So just roll whatever you want and there are like 1k+ people on so it's pretty easy to group up.

Threug is over powered at least for leveling as far as I've seen. Some early pvp showing the same if you can get the casts off.
Is this server pre or post casting speed nerf? I remember being able to get my pbaoe wizards casting speed stupid fast.
So any idea on how long beta will last? I, somehow, overlooked that this is open beta and the servers will be wiping. Don't know how much effort I want to put in on a temporary character unless the servers going to be around for a decent amount of time.
It's a video game.
There was a pretty sweet little big today, (for example) you could cast your entire mana pool of theurg pets in a second and go about your business. Boom, insta 10 pets.
It was patched pretty damned quick and this is a nice thing to see. I've been playing on broken ass servers for a decade and this would take 6 years to fix (hello Shards of Dalaya).

and maybe the time spent developing your character meant a higher retention/attachment rate than that of a insta-50 character, but the end game is pvp. there should only be 1 pvp zone. these origins servers are just playing to nostalgia. the mechanics and bonuses (once it was somewhat balanced out) broughtby toa+ made the game more interesting and more even keeled (champion levels buffs and npc buffers). as it is now, it went too far -- stacking is one of the main issues.
i haven't played it, but lethantis had an interesting idea: it was just a modified ffa pvp frontier zone. it now seems dead.
perhaps it wasn't enough but my ideal server would be:
-pvp flags: one that allow you to solo without being ganked (counter reduces after each kills/deaths. toggle flags only at keeps. resets each day. quest to get more solo immunity etc)
-claiming a land stake as a group: plant a flag, if the group dies or the flag is taken the the claim is lost.
-divide the map up into hexes and make a meta game (of the complexity of GO) of owership/claiming
-add more relic-like things or bonuses: if you own x hexes you realm get +10% heal. if you captured x numbers of things you get y bonus.
-1 zone that's a dynamic scaling in size relative to the current population: it feels empty and lonely and tradgic.
-rebalanced master levels.
-class changes across the board (some lines are defunct)
-no classes from toa+
-timer lockout from playing another realm. (ideally ffa pvp instead of rvr)
-all toa encounters and dragons are in the NF zone: maybe put df in the middle of the map -- not as a seperate zone but a reworked open dungeon; randomly spawn from a list toa encounters in random spots in the zone if you complete x quest or x meta condition.
-reduce incombat regen
-rework timers/stacking absorb
-there needs to be normalized buffs (particularly for solo ala cl buffs or npc buffers)
-a rework of the ui
-reword the crafting system into the pve and pvp. rog dropped components in crafting
-limit the entrances/exits to safe area: once you leave a safe spot, you can't return until you die or until x time passes.
-ra timers doesn't regenerate in safe areas; it adds negatively to it up to a fixed amount
-killing the same ppl returns exponentially less rp.
effectively i want a new game. there's so much that could be done creatively with daoc as a base.. but as it is, roaming isn't enough for me now, it's dated and played out. my guess that even if there was a modded server like this -- it would still be niche and wouldn't have the turnout as something new -- like camelotunchained.
